Foley House is a women's homeless shelter. They provide free room and board. You have the…read moreresponsibility to be actively trying to better your situation, and to follow the rules of residency, while living on there property. It's a gorgeous property with a main house that all offices and personnel work out of. The ADA room is also located in the main house, for those with physical issues. There are also five small cottages on the property, where the majority of women are housed. Each cottage has three small bedrooms, one bathroom and a living room with a couch, large flat screen TV and a table with four chairs. Each bungalow also has a water cooler (serving both hot & cold), as well as a refrigerator. The house and bungalows are clean and pest free. They permit you to do laundry, also at no charge. The staff is caring and attentive. Case managers do their best to aid and assist residents to get all services and assistance that they need and are entitled to. People that have had problems getting along in and/or with the Foley House program, have been people that come in with bad attitudes and feelings of entitlement. In the long run...you just have to respect their rules (as you should when living in anyone's home) and you will fare well in this shelter.

The Salvation Army does so much to help people. They have great heart behind their mission. The…read moreshelter at 5 points has great potential. It's just very poorly run. If they recruited proper management there, I think this location would really thrive. But unfortunately, the current management picks and chooses, and not according to policy. They discriminate against individuals suffering from mental health issues. I saw this first hand with my brother. He would tell me what was happening over there and at first, I didn't take what he was telling me seriously. But after further conversations, I looked further into it and he was absolutely right. I actually went over and interviewed several people at different times that were staying there, and they all told me the same thing. The manager there discriminates and it broke my heart to hear their experiences, how they were treated and belittled, and how it made them feel. I did call the Corporate's office and report her, but it will remain broken until they get someone in there that actually cares about the homeless. I completely understand that it is very difficult to run a homeless shelter and there are many that break the rules. I'm sure they deal with mental health outbursts on a daily basis, but they should also be trained in this area to deal with it and not just kick these individuals to the curb. She should be held accountable for her actions. She is power hungry and abuses that power. Time and time again, my brother asked for counseling, help with job applications and any resources for rehab, but even his case worker did not help him with any of that. They advertise it on their website and make it sound that they do everything in their power to help, but they do not follow through with any of it. The food is minimal and horrible. Even the security guards say it's run poorly. Many people quit because of her. If they got the right director in there, it would be outstanding. It's a great location and a great building. It's just very poorly run.
