Stopped in here on a whim. Was hungry and thought I'd try this great Salvadoran restaurant. They're quite a selection of food and drinks. I had a Jalapeño pupusa and a chorizo pupusa, along with a Pastelitos de Pollo. Everything was fresh. Everything was tasty. Besides salad of jalapeños and cabbage were really great. This was my first time visiting Ilopango, and aside from pupusas, I hadn't tried much Salvadoran food before. The owner recommended the Carne Asada con Pinto along with a passion fruit beverage, so I decided to go with that. While waiting for my meal, they brought out a refreshing drink and a side of chips with bean dip, which was a nice touch. When the main plate arrived, it was loaded with different items, all of which complemented each other perfectly. By the end, my plate was nearly spotless--there was just so much delicious food! I'm salvadorian and when I saw the menu items I was overjoyed as I don't get to eat Salvadorian food regularly as I did in my childhood. We've been here twice. The first time, I will say the service took around 25 minutes. The shrimp cocktail is super good. I like how generous they are with the shrimp. Both times I've gotten like 8-9 pieces. The second time they did tell me they were out of avocados but sadly they didn't put the shrimp on top like they did the first time. The pupusas are good. Not as good as the ones from El Salvador but honestly, haven't come across any in the valley that compare. I like how they aren't greasy and outrageously huge. The first time it was less doughy than the second. You'll have to keep asking for curtido if you like a lot of it. I find they don't give you enough. We ordered like 4. Always happy to see queso con loroco on the menu. It's my favorite. Chicken tacos. According to husband good. Breakfast plate. He wasn't a fan. The picture on the menu pictures 3 eggs. He only got 2. He did not want to eat the crema. Ok the meats. It's a hard pass. The salpicon is hard but the rice is perfect. So freaking good!! The meat special plate. She recommended it over the fish filet plate. Should have gone with the fish. The meat was hard and mostly fat. The plátanos were too mushy and greasy. The cheese was ok. The casamiento was not good. The rice and beans were hard and over fried/cooked. Overall the service was really good. They gave us beans and nachos for our baby to eat while we waited. They would stop several times to ask if we needed anything. One last call out I had that bothered me was that the server gave my husband my pupusa on his plate. He got like 2 big bites out of it. She came and was like. "Darn I messed up. Gave him yours. But he only got One bite and he is your husband right?" Honestly I should have spoken up and gotten a new one and they should have let us kept the one they messed up on and still given my husband his. The place is kind of empty for the most part. I've eaten here three times and I was on the fence about my review but after today, I'm rating them a 3. The customer service is okay. I was greeted and the servers are friendly. The place is clean but sometimes has a weird smell I don't recognize. As far as the pupusas, I have had much better and I would say they are okay. It is not the first place I would recommend for pupusas if I'm being honest. I ordered frijol con queso and revuelta. I got the my to go order with no utensils and no salsa which sucks because when you realize it you are back at work and your lunch is over. The beans did not taste fresh, the pupusas needed salt, and they were really greasy. I think there's room for improvement there. I also ordered their homemade french fries and it brought back memories of my mom making these fries with a fried egg in the morning. Needless to say, if you are looking for real homemade fries, I recommend them. Although note that the fries I see in pics, are not the ones I got today. read more

WALKED OUT after waiting more than 30mins AFTER ordering our food. They were too busy getting food to the maybe owner or woman that works there, that came in after us mind you- we had already ordered our food & their entire party wasn't even there, but somehow were all eating. A buddy of mine kept telling me about their pupusas so we came here. The place is kind of hidden inside a shopping center on Tropicana and Pecos. It's kind of small in size but authentic. It's pretty colorful with paintings on the wall as well as specials they have going on. I'm not familiar at all with Salvadorian food but when I walked in it smelt very good. My curiosity took over and I started to glance at what other customers were eating, everything looked fresh and good. This place is heavily Spanish spoken. I can read Spanish well but have still have difficulty understanding spoken words. My ordering skills could definitely improve so I let my friend handle the questions I had, just a note. I started out with 2 asada pupusas. Prior to serving the they set the toppings out, which are is a slaw like topping and hot sauce. We waited about 20 minutes for our food but when it came out it was hot. The pupusas had a little char from and the meat was pretty good inside. I wanted to go to the taco place next door but my partner really wanted a pupusa. He lamented that this establishment was the first place he had ever tried a pupusa and had fond memories of it. Up for anything, I agreed (after some arm twisting). Well. What can I say, this place is a total dive. Looked old and worn. Not very inviting, but seemed authentic strangely enough. We sat at a table by the cash register. The waitress didn't speak much English and I wasn't confident in her knowledge of what type of flour they used for the pupusas. At any rate, we got a mix of chicken, zucchini, shrimp, and a rice pupusa, along with one horchata. The horchata came out first. It was.... not what we expected. There was an unfamiliar taste in it, the waitress said it was zucchini seeds. I don't know much about traditional horchata, but uhh ok. Zucchini seeds. The pupusas came out with some curtido. The pupusas themselves were nice and hot, but on the oily side and could have used a lot more salt. Lot lot more. Fillings seemed a little sparse. The waitress was no where to be seen after she dropped the food off. We had to get up and flag someone down in the kitchen to get our bill and some to go boxes. Not somewhere I would go again. Pupusas of different kinds stuck to each other and came apart, making them inedible. They put the cheese pupusas in the same container as those containing meat.
