I had a terrible experience at Image Crew Salon Inc. on March 12, 2025. I went in for a perm, but the treatment severely damaged my hair -- the roots were burned off and left uneven. When I refused to pay because of the poor result, the owner still insisted that I pay $250, even though he had originally quoted me $230. When I requested a receipt, the owner initially wrote down $250, even though the original quote was $230. After I pointed this out, he corrected the amount. The owner first gave me a handwritten receipt in Chinese, which I refused. I requested an itemized receipt in English, but he refused until my daughter strongly insisted. After issuing the receipt, my daughter noticed that the salon's Certificate of Authority (COA) was framed on the wall, but the frame covered the expiration date. When asked to uncover it, the owner refused. The female employee who applied the chemical products also refused to show her Cosmetology License (CL). After the treatment, my hair was visibly damaged with breakage at the roots. This experience was extremely disappointing and unprofessional. I would not recommend this salon to anyone. read more

There are about 7 barbers here, and my family has tried about 4 of them. Overall, this salon lacks real skills. I first here for straightening hair when I was in middle school, but that's easy, and after that, they've all messed up a lot... 1. Can't cut hair Giving me a "layered haircut" made me look like I had short, chopped hair in the front and long hair in the back (by the female hairstylist with bangs AND Ken who gave a poor layered haircut to my mom) Recently, Jerry, the youngest stylist, curled my mom's hair relatively better than the others and gave my brother a fast and decent haircut. Better than Ken. UPDATE: Jerry has left. 2. Can't dye hair Dyeing my mom's hair ruined her curly hair perm in the process 3. Can't do variety of styles Giving me big wavy hair instead of the crimped hairstyle I wanted (by the slightly young but balding man with the pig-ish nose) 4. Can't curl hair Curling with an iron costs twice as much ($30) as a "Blow Curly/Flip," aka using hairbrushes to curl the hair and leaving them in, then blow drying the hair. At the end, one side of the head a lot is a lot less curlier than the other side. This actually happened to me a few times. Also at first when they finish, it looks REALLY curly and they say it'll flatten down naturally, but uh...just don't do your hair there right before an event. read more

Right up until yesterday this was my go-to spot for an inexpensive, beautiful trim. I went thrice and all three times it was different person since what I wanted is relatively simple. Yesterday I went and had my cut done by the owner Tony. We had great conversation during the cut, in which he and I both explicitly said a trim, and the style of the cut I was going for. During the conversation I felt like he was cutting off a lot but I figured hey, he owns the place and he should know what he's doing since we BOTH confirmed 1 inch. He never moved my hair to the front as some of the other people did before. When he was finished with the cutting he pulled out the shears, and I was visibly reluctant to even use it because I don't like overly thin hair. He and I both agreed "a little bit" and to me that meant just blending the ends a little bit. He was going in from the middle of my hair to the end, again and again. By the end of my haircut when I finally saw it, my heart was broken. I felt uglier walking out than I did when I walked in. The price is low, there's no point in me fighting not to pay. He said it'd be better for me to wash my hair. Okay sure, but that's not what I asked for... my hair looks terrible. He apologized but that doesn't change my hair back. I tried not to cry lol. Anyway, probably go to a different stylist if you know what you want and don't want to look like a 35 year old woman. And trust your gut when you think they're cutting too much and say something. If i can give this salon 0 stars i would because that's how much they deserve. I learned a major lesson today when it comes to my hair and that is to never to go get a haircut on a whim. Service was fairly quick. But i realized they were just too quick to collect payment and tips. They sat me down real quick for a wash and then straight for a cut. No time was wasted. I simply asked the "hair dresser" (if you can even call him that) all i want is just an 1 inch cut, in the layers that i already have. Nothing else. And what did i come out with??? I came out with my hair in uneven layers looking like a pinata! Now I have to spend time and extra money to get this fixed. AVOID! Unless you are just going to get a wash. read more

The back of my hair they left brown patches which they never bleached at all. Hair is falling out, I have bald patches. Chinese man wanted to fight me he was very aggressive. I gave him 40$ and left. He continued to curse me out as my hair is falling out of my head. Was the worst decision in my life to enter that s***hole. They got their license from the Cracker Jack box. Don't let the storefront/shop's appearance fool you, this is a great spot if you want to get your pretty on. I've seen them done a few different ombre colors on my mom, and I knew then I'd have to give them a try. I'm pleased that I did. They do a wonderful job with color and highlights. I recently got an ombre done. I'm very happy how the colors, blonde highlights compliment the brown (it's definitely work appropriate). It's a well-known fact that despite being Southern and raised by a gaggle of Fairy GodQueens, I despise spending time on my hair and nails. Don't get me wrong: I do what I must to create a polished image, but I limit the time and price required to do so. Imagine my interest when a friend passed along a brokelyn.com article about an alleged $10 blowout. I've got thick, unruly, curly hair - and a lot of it - and the cheapest blowout I've ever found has been $35. Although I had a feeling the stylist would take one look at my head and jack the price up, I figured "what the hell?" and headed out to the salon's Coney Island location. If there is a drawback, it is the travel time, but I'd rather spend my time reading a book on the train than getting pampered in the confines of a salon chair. If you need upscale ambiance and sycophantic stylists, Image Crew is NOT for you. This neighborhood nook focuses solely on hair - and decor isn't a factor. Handwritten signs on brightly colored posterboard proclaim package prices (Wash-Cut-Blowdry $16 for Long Hair; Color $45 for Whole Head). A local radio station plays the latest Lady Gaga and Blackeyed Peas' hits - although, during my first visit, everyone was riveted to an Asian-language action flick playing on a central monitor. A junior stylist dumped a load of freshly laundered towels in the shampoo chair next to mine and everyone without a client began folding and chatting during my shampoo. It's amazing how gossip sounds the same in any language. The fact that I didn't understand a word of the ladies were saying was probably because I don't speak the language, but they could have been speaking English and I still would have drawn a blank after a glorious 20 minute shampoo and scalp massage left my brain unable to process anything. And then there's Mr. Ken. I was sent to his chair on my first visit because he just happened to be free; now there's no one else I'd rather have straighten my hair. Mr. Ken is the rock star of hair styling. He holds two hair dryers in one hand while gathering up small sections of hair with the other. He doesn't pull the hair, which caused me concern since tension is the only thing that will keep my hair straight after I leave the salon. I'm not sure how, but Mr. Ken merely coaxes the hair into lying silkily against my head, and I can keep that straightness for 3 or 4 days. What takes me an hour and a half and other professionals an hour to do, Mr. Ken does in 40 minutes. And, yes, Virginia, the price is only $10 and the total time is just an hour. This is strictly a blow-out salon. I love the blowouts Calvin gives me and the prices are OK for a low grade salon. I wouldn't recommend color (especially anything to do with bleach). The owner is very money hungry and always tries to over charge you. Yesterday he told me my blowout would be $20 even though I ALWAYS pay $12 for my 2 years of going here. He backs down after that, but that's still obnoxious. The salon is dirty, brushes are dirty, clips are dirty which is why I bring my own. I came to Image Crew for a formal updo because my sister went before and she really liked her results. After cross-checking with Yelp, I found the reviews to basically all say the same thing she reported: low prices, great results; however, my personal experience did not prove to be so nice. What they charged her for an updo: $15 What they charged me for an updo: $35 The amount I was charged was more than double what they charged my sister, AND they didn't produce the hairstyle I wanted (like, nowhere close). I was first told he could produce the hairstyle when I first walked into the store. After I finished washing my hair, he sat me down and blamed my hair for not being the perfect color nor thickness, then he said he will put some unique touches on it to look better on me and to trust him because he is an expert. This was my mistake to actually trust him. I left pissed off because I was running late for a wedding, and had paid for an incredibly mediocre job. Oh, and FYI, they don't do makeup application either. This is something I had them confirm MULTIPLE TIMES regarding pricing and availability. But they told me they don't offer that service after screwing up on my hair. If I only asked once, then I can say I misheard, but they certainly made multiple promises where they did not deliver anything except disappointment. Part of me wants to give them a 0 because they were dishonest with me, but I'll be fair. Their lack of ability to create what a customer is asking for and the uncleanliness of the place (their towels smelled bad) will drive them to where they're meant to go already. Am I returning? I got a haircut here today after not having one for a long time. I came in, and was seated after there was some discussion about which stylist was free. I got one of the stylists not previously mentioned, an older guy (named Jose maybe?), anyway he gave me a great cut (even with a bit of a language barrier) and straight blowout for $17 including tax. There's limited chitchat and fuss, which is right up my alley, and the price is amazing for the quality. 1 star removed because the place could be cleaned and updated more. read more

Came in to get a pedicure. The nail technician seemed to be in a bad mood. She washed my feet but didn't clean or file my toenails. Applied the polish very sloppy and didn't even give me enough time to dry my toes. On top of that the manager game in attitude when I didn't tip her for her poor service. read more

I went there today for a cut and color. Wanted to color my dirty blonde hair platinum, the lady convinced me that highlights would look better. After she washed my hair w this great smelling shampoo, she gave me a neck and back massage, puuurrrrrrr! The woman who cut my hair actually listened to what I wanted and advised me on my layers aaaand talked to me about how to cut my layers in the future when my hair grows out more. I like that :-) The place itself is nothing fancy. I probably wouldn't give it a second look but the women are super nice there and I got great highlights, cut and blow out for $55! I saw a sign that says a wash cut dry is $16. Ill definitely be going back. read more

Horrible . Waste of money . Don't go. I should have went to J&as. The guy who styled my hair used the curling iron. I showed him pics of what I wanted and he did not deliver . He said it would last a the whole day which it did not . By 15 minutes, my walk home it was straight . I don't mind paying but give me what I want . I even told him before he continued he said it will get better or bigger. It did not . If I had more time I would have gone to another salon to fix it . Such a waste of time . Don't waste your money. Seriously I only have one word for this place, HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!! Been a regular for years, always tipped well since I'm in the same industry on having to survive in tips. Ken was always the one to cut my hair, NO ONE ELSE, sadly the experience that I got today got me to turn my back. I made a 11am appointment knowing that it was going to be busy given that they were closed for 4 months now. So OBVIOUSLY I needed a haircut. I came in 10 minutes early and still even tho I MADE AN APPOINTMENT I was seated by 12PM, why?!?!?!?!?! Because KEN decides to keep taking other people even people who came after me. As I'm sitting there with my hair soaked. Gets even better, not only am I sitting in Kens chair in tears cuz I couldn't believe how I was being treated, there was no apology and I got charged $20 for a blowout and it's fuckin horrible cuz my hair is so dead. And they're credit card machine wasn't working neither so I got charged extra fees just to take out money from the ATM. I AM A SINGLE MOM WITH NO JOB. He was very friendly and patient, and explained very clearly how much length he's going to cut. Finally, he blowed my hair very nicely according to my request. I've been to this place a few times now and I like it. I go to get a straight blow out, they do it quick and nice, and its cheap. What I don't like too much is that they don't wash your hair good enough. I recommend washing your hair before you go that way you know your hair will be clean even though they wont scrub your scalp well. But anyway, if you want your hair nice and straight and done fast and cheap then i do recommend this place. read more

Whatever you do, don't get highlights done here. I made the mistake and am completely devasted about my hair. I even showed them a picture of what I wanted (light brown highlights) and instead I got bleached blonde. I went back to have them "fix it" but they would not listen to what me or my friend asked them to do, and my hair remained horrible. I only come to this place for a wash and blowout. I don't think I'd EVER let them actually cut my hair and I like to be in and out ASAP! The people are generally nice and the best person to get your hair washed by is Lilly. Superb head massage and a little bonus shoulder massage when she's done! What I don't like about this place is that it's REALLY DIRTY. There is hair in the cracks of the draws and on the stations that's probably been there for YEARS!!! Mind you, they have plenty of woman that work there that are not hairdressers just kinda....I don't know....., standing around, doing nothing most of the time. They REALLY and I mean REALLY NEED to close this place down for like a day and CLEAN, CLEAN, CLEAN..... The only reason why I keep going back is the PRICE, $14 for a STRAIGHT blowout, and Frankie, the guy that always does my hair. I used to come here a lot and the service was good. However, today I wanted to fight with everyone there. I just wanted a wash and a blow dry! This Old man with a pony tail washed my hair and I asked him to give me 3 shampoos instead of the regular two. As he was washing my hair, all he was doing was rubbing my hair. I'm not a fuckin pet, I need my hair and my whole scalp to be washed and scrubbed! I asked him to go a little harder, he continued to just rub my hair. I ended up screaming saying CAN you please scrub my hair and my scalp. You aren't even washing anything. Then, he didn't even give me my third shampoo and I was just done and didn't complain because he wasn't getting a tip from me. Then he just PUTS A TOWEL on my head and just left. He didn't just wrap it around, nope. Literally SPLATTED A TOWEL ON MY HEAD. All I wanted was a good wash! The woman that blow dried my hair was just treating my hair like it was garbage. Constantly moving my head with her hand on my face in a rough way and I was so close to punching her. she kept moving pieces of my hair by just throwing it to the side . I ended up leaving giving the women 4 dollars tip for my blow dry cause my hair is a little thick but didn't give the washer shit. The women tells me, "he washed your hair! Why did you give him tip?" And i said "if he knew how to wash my hair correctly and not splat a towel on my head where it ended up falling on the floor, he would have gotten a tip. DO NOT GO TO THIS SALON! They are absolutely horrible at cutting hair. I went there about two years ago to get an ordinary trim and the guy with the long hair in a ponytail cut it crooked. How can you mess up a simple trim?....But I let that go as a one time thing...I recently went again, wanting to give it another try, so I was helped by the man with the short hair and very long and sharp fingernails! I went to get my bangs trimmed, and he did not do or understand what I really wanted, even though I had a picture of exactly what I wanted him to do. He took out the biggest pair of shears I've ever seen and started to chop away! Not only did he not do a good job, his sharp as hell fingernails would constantly press on my forehead (so not comfortable). I forgot who I got, but she was a nice lady. I have natural big curls but my problem is the longer my hair gets the less volume I have on the top of my head. I've been trying really hard to grow out my hair but Im always to scared to cut my hair around bensonhurst because I want to fix up my layers and get my split ends fixed without cutting it too short and thats usually what happens (they always cut it too short). BUTTT the lady I got here did exactly what I wanted :) she fixed up my layers and cut my ends but still maintained my length :) so i got the volume back on the top of my head and my hair is still long with no split ends now :) read more

I absolutely love this place! I usually come here and the lady who washes my hair gives me a little massage while washing my hair, but this time she put in work. She massaged my head for what felt like 10 minutes and even briefly went on my shoulders. It was amazing. $12 a wash and blow and a mini head massage is ridiculously cheap omg. It's worth the trip. I went in to get a haircut last minute for my brothers birthday and I told the man (who barely spoke English) that I wanted layers and a few inches cut off. They cut off half of my hair and all of the layers were on top only. I literally look like a shaggy dog. I will NEVER return here and I advise everyone to STAY AWAY!
