All my family members go to her (e.g. my aunt and cousin). When I walked in, she asked me where have I been. I informed her I wanted to grow out my hair. She asked me what kind of haircut I'm going for. I asked if I can get bangs. She asked me to show her a picture. She replicated it exactly as I asked for. I really appreciate the way the lady washed my hair with a mini head and scalp massage. The guy that was assigned to cut my hair gave me good advice on how to take care of my hair. I've been here a few times and it could get busy especially during the weekend. Walk-ins are still welcome, could call in to check on the wait times for the day. Typical Chinese hair salon vibes, casual with affordable prices. Some of the staff could be chatty and loud with each other. So grateful for being a part of the Yelp Elite Squad because I was introduced to Top Hair Studio Salon! I live in the area and actually go to restaurants on the same block but never went to Top Hair! I spoke to Gary prior to going for my haircut. Top Hair follows all of the safety protocols, you can see Gary and his must haves on the counter in my pic! I received a dry haircut by Wu. She was so nice and suggested what I should do to my hair. I was open to ideas, she suggested to give me some layers and I love how they came out! Definitely a different style than what I usually get but I love it and I'm glad I put my trust in Wu! Coincidentally, a coworker of mine happened to sit right next to me as I was finishing up. I came here a few times the last few years for wash and style. I never gotten a hair cut here before (maybe one day?) I came here on Tuesday, October 13 (rainy cold day) for a hair wash. I walked about almost 30min in the cold/rain because the bus didn't come & then passed me by. I decided exercise & fresh open air would be better than sitting inside with lots of people during covid. I had a finger injury a few days ago (sliced my thumb when chopping) so I can't wash my hair. It was so cold & rainy, that when I arrived and walked in; I had to sit a bit (bench by entrance) to warm up so they could take my temperature (it kept saying LOW). Finally, they decided to take the temp from my wrist and I was allow to come in. I walked all the way to the back to hang my coat and purse (took my wallet & phone with me) first before sitting at the hair wash station. There were plastic curtain dividers between each chair and section off between hair styling & hair washing station. Everything looks clean & all proper procedures were taken. I explained to the staff & show my injured bandaged thumb so they would understand. My hair hasn't been washed in 6 days (my husband help bathe me but I didn't want him to shampoo as he had difficulty in the past before). I have very long and thick hair. The lady was nice; washed it twice for me since it was greasy as she felt bad that I was too injured. She even said it to me that she'll wash again & again during the second wash. It felt cleaner and I was happy. I sat down at the chair & explain to the hairdresser that just to dry only. He asked if I wanted a trim but I showed my thumb & explained. He dried it normally; I stopped him before he reached for the gel/mousse. Adding hair products to my hair would defeat the purpose of me coming in for a hair wash as I wouldn't be able to wash the gel/mousse/hair spray off once I'm home. Overall very happy. My hair was washed and cleaned. I thought about returning again for another wash but bared with greasy hair until my thumb healed and I could washed my own hair (save me $25). read more

I went there Sunday morning and the place was already bustling with business. Nonetheless, there were still two staff members who were available to cut my hair. I didn't even have to wait! I came in with my hair already washed and dried. I did a dry cut so they sprayed some water on my hair here and there. The staff members were all super nice and spoke to me in cantonese. Masks were kept on at all times. At the end, the lady even straightened my hair as part of the dry cut. My mom absolutely loved my new look. I definitely recommend visiting them to get your hair cut. Remember to give a tip to the person who cuts your hair and washes it on top of your fixed amount! read more

This is my first time using their service. I want to try cheap Hair cut in chinatown and came across Top Hair. They are next to Sushi buffet (maybe you can eat the buffet after haircut ). I walked in on Friday evening at 6:30 and got seated right away. Ms Woo who worked on my hair was nice and very detailed. She asked me specific questions to know what I wanted. Best thing about this place is that they dont push u to do extra service or buy products. I walk in with one purpose only: a simple trim with a side bang. Ms Woo granted me my wish and fixed two more times until i was completely satisfied. Next time if I have more time, I will come for hairwash as well. Got there 15 minutes early and they took me right away. They have each hair dressers chair sectioned off for social distancing. You are required to wear masks and if you are waiting you have to wait outside. But everything was still as thorough and great as it has always been. I have been coming to this salon since 2009. I usually go to Ann whenever I get the chance to go. Today I decided to stop in after work & get color & cut. They told me $145.00 my jaw dropped. This place has always reasonably priced & I have never paid more than $100 on color & cut. I told them I'll just do a cut instead. She then dropped the price from $145 to $120. I agree, bc that's what I originally came to do. The lady I had wasn't understanding what I wanted much even with pics shown. She kept interrupting the blow dry to check her phone. I go to pay after everything is done. The lady takes the $120 & pocketed some of the cash & gave the lady who washed & dyed me cash from the money I just gave her to pay. So I assume ok did they include their tip in the price? As I go to get my coat she stare at me for a tip! & I give her bc I would just feel bad why? SMH Next day- Called the owner today to get a price on the service I received & he quoted me $90-100 reasonably priced. What I expected. I then told him how they told me it was 145 & he then said everything went up. But didn't you just quote me 90-100?!. I told him about the situation & he told me he didn't want to speak to me. annoyed I got loud & told him how his girls tried to up charge me & pocket the money. He didn't want to hear it or try to understand. Asked me to come in. No, it's out of my way & if the camera work check them. Super unprofessional & I will never give business here again. Got a free haircut here thanks to a Yelp Elite event for AAPI month. I frequent the block often to fill my tummy but never looked twice at the salon, so entering the establishment felt like going into a whole new world. There were a few customers at the back of the salon when I arrived at 11 on a Sunday without an appointment. I had tried to make an appointment over the phone but they told me that it wasn't necessary, as there shouldn't be a wait time whenever I decide to come. I was skeptical but lo and behold, they were right. The boss at the reception directed me to one of the two free stylists at the front of the salon once he took my temperature, which was comforting to know they do that to all customers. Since it was a dry cut, my stylist got to snipping right away after asking what I wanted. I told her I wanted something simple: hair up to my pits, a u-shape in the back, and very little layers. Though she was a bit rough, she delivered exactly what I wanted and even straightened my hair with a straightener. It was a pretty seamless experience minus the few times she tugged my mask down accidentally. I honestly might return again the next time I need a fresh cut. read more

After hair salons were reopened, I waited about a week before I went to finally get my haircut (last haircut was in January and I washed it everyday since I work at the hospital - so my hair was super dry). I was speaking to one of the ladies who were washing hair and she suggested using a hair mask which smelled wonderful. They were quite busy but they tried to limit the amount of people inside the store and everyone was wearing a mask which is great. I had my haircut done by this woman (because I never choose a stylist) and she took her time to ask me what style I wanted and gave me suggestions on how to cut my bangs as well. I also thought because this was a pandemic, I thought maybe prices may go up by a few bucks but nothing did. My haircut was still about $18 which is great! Whatever you do don't come here to touch up your roots. I came In to touch up my blonde roots and they put the bleach on my hair .. about 30 mins later I asked the owner if it was ready to wash he said no a few more mins and left it on for 10 mins more. The girl doing the color came back and she said your ready to wash After washing my roots were still yellow after doing the bleach and toner. When I seen my roots were yellow I complained ... the owner said it's because I was rushing and was rude. They had to rebleach and re tone my hair to get the yellow out. My scalp was burning so bad. I asked for a comb to scratch it. My scalp Is now very red from the double process and my hair looked purple from the toner not being washed properly ... poor service I won't come back. read more

If you're looking for a hair salon with excellent customer service, this isn't the place for you. There are no frills, but they get the job done. I've been going to Wendy for a while and she does a great job! With or without reference pictures, she communicates with you to make sure the end result is what you wanted. This place is also super cheap compared to other salons, but they don't lose quality. I did take 1 star off because of the poor service for the ladies that wash your hair. It seems like they attempt to give you some service by giving a scalp and neck massage when washing your hair, but their attempts seems so feeble. I think it would be better if they omitted the massage as a whole or work harder on giving a better massage. Overall great place for a great price. read more

This hair "salon" ruined my hair. I came for a touch up on my roots, which was an ombré into blonde. I don't know what old or cheap products they use, the color was supposed to be brown. I washed it ONE time, with color shampoo, it came out BRIGHT ORANGE. On top of this, when they went to wash my hair the girl was eating a chicken wing, and thought "she didn't have to wash her hands." How disgusting is that? Avoid this place or your hair will fall out. My grandmother came with me, and instead of her normal light blonde tones, they gave her red roots and fried her hair with their dye. The dye is not what they say they use- color charm or matrix. It's some fufu product they put together in the back. Avoid or you'll be bald. read more

Now with short haircut, one was Bob haircut, I asked her not to touch top but for some reason she did and did it very short. The second time( I have shorter haircut from different hairstylist in different salon which was good)I asked her to trim sides and back. she makes it completely short and ugly, completely shaving off my back and my neck.head is round and has no shape now at all. Seems the girl sees no proportions. When I said it looks wrong she said it's ok It will grow and I'll charge you 10 bucks instead of 15. This was my first time at this Salon and last time that I will ever spend my money here! The hair salon opens at 9 am. I arrived at 8:35 am and there were two women already waiting outside. Okay...no problem so I will be the third person to be taken care of right? Nope...as soon as the doors opened the two women ahead of me barged in and went straight to the back. More women showed who were customers again went straight to the back. For 10 minutes no one asked me what I was there for. I was about to walk out when finally a worker asked me what I needed. But I was going by what was posted on Yelp on how good this place is. Finally I get it washed a woman asks what I want. I show her a picture which is a woman with bangs and layers...finished product finally...no bangs!? Yes I got the layers but come on now! I asked what happened to the bangs? She either forgot or was blind! I spent $25.00 on a wash, layers and blow dry with no bangs. If you are not a frequent customer you will get ignored and I don't brown nose!
