    the menu for lunch special

For such a small place they have a huge menu selection. You can eat in but I had to take mine to go. The service was fast and genuinely friendly. I selected the Orange Chicken and the Beef with Scallops. Both came with fresh white rice. This Chinese Restaurant is a local favorite.

Wow. We went in here with low expectations, thinking it would be greasy strip mall food. I had the bean curd dish and it was stellar. Fresh crisp veggies, chewy golden tofu that isn't a bunch of precut triangles. Stands up to any restaurant in a larger city.

Great tasting food, nice and friendly staff. I ordered in person for takeout and the cashier was friendly and the waitress helping eat in customers was very accommodating and friendly too. Small but clean and nice dining room. Only a couple of people eating in while I was there at the dinner hour but many people came in to collect takeout food. I only ordered a large beef lo mein, it was a good proportion, the beef was cooked to protection and not slimy like some other places. There could have been more vegetables but a decent amount of beef. I will be back often!

    Shrimp Lo Mein-hot and yummy!

The food was tasteless, bland and flavorless. Go to the other side of Oconomowoc for MUCH better Chinese food.

The restaurant is in a tucked away strip mall and is modest in size and decor. The strip mall also contains hidden treasures like a Chinese bakery/BBQ and an Asian store. We went early on a Saturday evening with friends. The service was excellent, although with some staff there were language hurdles. No matter - everyone made it work and we were left with an abundance of amazing food at a reasonable price. Wine and beers are served, as well as smoothies and other non-alcoholic drinks. BF ordered crab rangoon as a starter, which was good. He liked it more than I did, but it was nice and crispy. I just didn't think it compared to other dishes. My vegetable egg roll was very good as well, but nothing terribly unique. He went bold on the entree and ordered the pork intestine and blood cake dish. He really enjoyed it and said it was quite spicy. The portions are generous and he did bring a lot home. I ordered the homestyle tofu, which normally has pork. I got it without to make it vegetarian friendly. The textures were very good and the sauce was intensely flavorful, but mild. I also ordered a supplementary dish of braised mushrooms and Shanghai greens. Everyone at the table enjoyed this dish, particularly the greens, which are a variety of bok choy, called pac choy. The mushrooms were wonderful, with the texture of wood ears. I also had plenty of leftovers to eat the next day. Our friends ordered the Szechuan spicy pork dumplings and they got rave reviews. My cousin did say they were not overly spicy. She went on to order the sizzling black pepper beef, which she said was good, but not nearly as unique or deeply flavored as the other dishes. Her husband ordered the pork intestine with clear noodles, which he enjoyed but said was extremely spicy. He did leave a lot of sauce behind since it was so hot. He also had the ox tendon and maw in spicy sauce, which came with chopped peanuts on top. He seemed really pleased with that dish. We agreed that we would happily go back to explore the menu more. Everything was excellent and I thought the prices were generally quite reasonable, especially for the quantity of food. I do wish the menu had more descriptive text, so I could familiarize myself with the dishes. The choices are many and overwhelming and the menu is huge. I'd also love to see a symbol for vegetarian options since it's very hard to know otherwise and many of the vegetable dishes included pork or other meat. As we left the restaurant was getting increasingly busy with people waiting by the door for seats. This is a popular place for good reason.

The Spicy Pork Dumplings have become my go-to appetizer, and the fried spring rolls are also very good. On a most recent visit, we ordered hot pot. Our server brought us the sheet to make our selections. You can choose from mild broth, spicy broth, or half tray of each. The spicy is pretty hot with lots of red chili peppers soaking in it, so I scooped out the chili peppers to keep rhe flavor but lessen the impact on my palate. For 2 guests, I recommend choosing 3 items from the list, maybe 2 protein and one veggie or 2 veggie and one protein to start. You can order more if you finish and need more. This is in addition to the two appetizers you will choose, which is included with rhe hot pot dinner. It's a great value! Sze Chuan remains on my short list of go-to's for Chinese dining, and I look forward to my next visit, whenever that may be.

If you are celiac or gluten-free, I don't recommend ever eating here. While they have a dedicated gluten-free menu with options for changing things out, on two separate occasions (of the 4 times I've been there) they've made a mistake. It puts you in a challenging and uncomfortable situation when you are curious about something actually being gluten-free. I know for myself, you don't want to insinuate that you don't trust your server! My most recent visit there I had the shittake/vegetable Ramen with rice noodles. I explained that I can't have soy sauce because it contains wheat. I explained that if they have tamari that they could check if it is wheat free because I often can have tamari instead of soy sauce. I explained that I can't have anything that contains wheat. My server informed me that she would make sure that this was gluten-free, that the rice noodles would be replacing the Ramen noodles. While eating I was curious if the noodles were not gluten-free, and I was informed that they do seem to be rice noodles. We were also sure to order the tofu as steamed rather than fried so that it would not have cross-contamination. (Due to first glutened experience) Later that night and the following day I can report that what I ate was not in fact, rice noodles or gluten free, and I have been glutened. On a previous occasion, I ordered the fresh spring rolls with a sauce that I was informed was gluten-free with tofu. While already eating this, the server came over and informed me that the tofu was not gluten-free, and had been fried. I think that there may be some lack of understanding what gluten-free means and how it impacts people generally in most of the food service industry. I believe they did their best to try to accommodate. That being said if you are celiac or gluten intolerant, please steer clear! Very unfortunate because it was tasty. I understand that as someone who needs to eat gluten-free that I am taking a risk by eating at a restaurant that is not gluten-free forward. Although they have a dedicated allergy menu, two out of the four times I've eaten there it hasn't made a difference. Great restaurant, not great for celiac.

I thought today that I would visit my old friend and even though I have been around the world with the menu that dam general Taos chicken dinner combination is my favorite. The general Taos chicken combination comes with chicken fried rice and an egg roll. The chicken is always big moist chunks of tender velveted chicken which I can't tell if it's white or dark meat because of the velveting process but I like it. The egg roll isn't the tiny ones that became the norm over the years and it's super average like 95 % of Asian restaurants now, not like years past when the egg roll was a signature staple in Asian restaurants and they made really good ones. The combination chicken fried rice is that kind you find on most combination menus, not the main dish dark fried rice full of meat and veggies but just enough to accompany the main dish. Overall it's tasty enough and better than the average neighborhood Chinese restaurant and for a dinner combination that was 2 1/2 pounds of food for $13.50, price vs quality vs taste it's a winner.

Which led us to order again on another occasion to try their regular menu items. This time around, we were slightly disappointed. The flavors felt a bit flat, especially with the seafood dishes, which we were hoping would be more bold and well-seasoned. For reference, both orders were takeout. We didn't dine in at the restaurant. I'd still be open to trying them again in the future, especially given how much we enjoyed the dim sum the first time

The server who took our order was very friendly. I was hesitating about whether to add more dishes, and he honestly told me that what we ordered should be enough. He was right--we couldn't even finish it! The restaurant space is quite large, and most of the customers seemed to be students from the nearby area. The reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because the front desk staff had a pretty bad attitude. I called earlier to ask if the restaurant was open, and her responses were impatient, and she even hung up the phone abruptly. That really affected the overall experience. Overall, the food is good and the portions are great, but the customer service at the front desk needs improvement.
