Some people had suggested this establishment and gave great reviews in the past so I gave it a try Mistake Number One is that the buffet is $13.33 plus tax = $14 for very few items and no soup of any kind. My friends and I frequently visit here. Mostly we sit at the bar and enjoy the best Mai Thai made by Paul. We have been coming for years. The appetizers are consistently good. Some of our favorites are the crab raccoons and the sweet-and-sour and egg drop soup! Very tasty. When we choose to eat, we always enjoy the sweet-and-sour chicken with friend rice. This was new restaurant of the week and the winner in 2010 10 best Chinese restaurants in America. The place is small with a small dining room and a small bar next to it. The place was hopping on a weekday during lunch with the small buffet getting a work out but the kitchen was was on point with keeping it filled with fresh food I noticed. I would pass on the buffet and get three of my favorites which is beef fried rice, egg roll and pork pot stickers. Service was wonderful with my server bringing out my food in courses starting with the pork pot stickers which are dumped that are fried and steamed so they have a crisply side and a soft side which were tasty. The egg roll was fried to golden perfection with pork and shrimp that were tasty as well. The beef fried rice was definitely the star but most of the tender beef pieces were huge and a mouth full, smaller pieces would be more beef in every bite I thought. The flavor was so delicious with a grilled profile, maybe a seasoned Wok ?. It had a char broiled flavor which was so delicious. Ok my final thoughts for the 10 best in America is yes it's very good and better than most Chinese restaurants but after seeing the award I was expecting mind blowing but it wasn't but still very good. read more

Ordered To-Go while staying in Waukesha, because it's my husbands favorite spot. We ordered the kung pow chicken (spicy) and the peppered steak, along with the crab Rangoon. When my husband ordered the kung pow chicken the staff confirmed with him 2-3x that he really wanted "spicy" and my only complaint of the meal is that the kung pow could have had MORE spice. So sad that Golden Gate has cheapened their quality of food. We went to their food buffet yesterday and was shocked! The sweet sour chicken had so much breading I could barely find any chicken. The egg foo young was filled with pea pods and didn't taste anything like what egg foo usually tastes like. I commented to the waitress and she said they have been on vacation and just getting back in the swing of things. Spoke to owner on the way out and he said "nothing has changed". Since the Bamboo House closed we've been looking for a really good Chinese restaurant and we finally found it! I'm not going to compare the two because they're both excellent but quite a bit different. The egg rolls and egg drip soup were both fantastic as were the homemade hot mustard and sweet and sour Sauce: The server was great but the service was a bit slow due to lack of help. Not a big deal as that seems to be the norm everywhere the last couple of years. The twice cooked pork was great and they even let my wife switch up the veggies that it comes with. My only drawback was the chicken curry. The flavor was amazing but it only came with onions and the onion to chicken ratio had to be at least 20/1 in favor of the onions. The chicken fried rice was also amazing and I'll go easy onions when I order the curry next so overall I'll give them a 5. Super great meal! read more

I'm visiting Milwaukee for work and today once I got off work today I was really craving some Broccoli and Chicken with fried rice. I eat this often but this place didn't quite satisfy my craving. I was actually quite disappointed actually The combination rice was greasy and i didn't taste much pork. It also wasn't long grain rice that I'm used to. The chicken and broccoli tasted just like chicken noodle soup. Instead of thigh meat that I'm used to it was dry like breast meat. Stopped in Golden Gate for the first time for dinner last night. We were surprised to see the restaurant was busy at 5:15 when we arrived. We were greeted and seated immediately and the server came to our table. We had Spring Rolls, Mild Shanghai Beef and Mild General Tso's Chicken, all cooked to perfection.
