This was my first time taking a class at Improv LA, I've been to their improv Jams before and the vibes are super positive, encouraging, and fun. Just finished Sketch Writing 101 and this class had the same enthusiasm and it was an amazing experience. We learned about all different types of sketches with examples, got to practice writing in each type and then having our work shared in class. The environment was super supportive (I'm new to sketch writing) and felt encouraged and comfortable taking risks. The students and teacher were all respectful and created a great dynamic. Wow, I started at Improv LA a couple of years ago and took the level 1 class. It was so much fun that despite not being an actor or any kind of performer I signed up for the Level 2 class. It was great as well. So now I just finished Level 4. What can I say, the class is well structured, it's aimed at anyone not just actors or industry people. The instructors were fantastic, Rob, Kevin and Frank. If you've ever been even slightly interested in improv this is the perfect class. Just Ok. Good teachers, but the classes are too large and the new classes take a long time for them to post if you want to move on to another level. And six sessions are hardly enough time to really understand the exercises, so for that amount of time the tuition is overpriced...If you are just starting, then this school is ok. But if you want a more intensive training experience and more bang for your buck, then try some of the more well-known schools instead. read more

Improv is by far the most challenging thing I've done recently and I have loved everything that is being taught! Took level 1 with Sean and am so shocked that I not only completed the level and attended all classes, but I ENJOYED myself. I was amazed at how fast time passed. Sean is a gifted teacher, he makes everything so clear and digestible and eases you into the "rules" of improv. He really encouraged our class to hang out outside of class, and I'm so glad he did. We saw shows together, hung out after class, and I truly believe it made us play with each other so much better - we were more comfortable with each other, and we were able to let loose and have fun. The class was still challenging, but that's only normal when you're learning and growing! HIGHLY recommend Improv LA. I'd taken one class about 8 years ago with a teacher from one of the famous improv places, and I lowkey hated every minute of that class. Haha. I've been taking classes at Improv LA since late January (now in level 3), and I'm so happy I found this school. Specifically, there's a great amount of variety. I love how they review several styles of improv: Los Angeles (of course), Chicago, London, Asian, New York, Canadian... Every instructor has lent unique perspectives and has been very approachable. I often attend shows at other schools that seem much more intimidating. My favorite aspect has been the chance to meet cool peeps! Most of my classmates have been like me, just looking to have fun (not trying to get famous or anything). It's interesting how we've been able to connect from different walks of life, from creative professionals to teachers to IT. There's something magical about improv that brings everyone together. Thanks to my experiences with Improv LA, I feel more confident and more vocal in all areas of my life. If you're shopping for an improv school, I'd definitely recommend this one! read more

I had always wanted to take improv but didn't have the courage. One day, i got drunk and signed up and showed up to the class not knowing what to expect. My class with Sarah was amazing. At first, it felt a little cringey but that was how i was getting more playful and getting out of my comfort zone. I took this class hoping to be able to speak better in my corporate job and it not only helped me think fast but also made me more proactive and better listener. I took Level 1 with Sarah and it was a great experience! Sarah's got this really supportive and easy going vibe about her, which was great because I was super nervous doing improv on stage, but I felt like everyone was encouraging and welcoming. My classmates were really cool. I kind of got an LA vibe from the whole class. Some classmates were working in the entertainment industry and the classroom kind of looked like something out of HBO's Barry's acting class. You get a lot of stage time practice and good feedback. "Trust in your partners" is the key thing I took away from the class, which can be difficult at times to do when you're up there on stage. I actually enjoyed watching my classmates more than professional improvers because we were all learning together and going through the hardships of improv. I really enjoyed Keith's teaching! For the type of class he was teaching, I think he brought the right balance of a casual atmosphere and lots of detailed feedback. First time taking an improv class and Keith made it an incredibly welcoming and safe space to play, even with the limitations of having to do the class over zoom! Keith provided links to YouTube videos and books that were super helpful in synthesizing the concepts we were taught in class. I found the interviews with improv veterans Amy Poehler, Tina Fey, Tim Meadows, and Andy Dick to be especially enlightening since they all agreed that truth is what improv is all about. That you don't have to try to be funny and you shouldn't try at all, just be honest and true to the scene. Kelsie is an amazing teacher who makes you feel open, playful and creative. Improv is quite a difficult skill to learn, and the course is very well set out. This time was a little different...due to Covid-19, the class was held over Zoom rather than in person. Keith did a great job with the class and it was fun and productive. First, Keith remembered me, which I can't weigh in on whether that is good or not, but I digress.... Let's get back to the topic at hand...improv class a la zoom.... Keith was very warm and engaging, which is no easy feat over zoom. He was able to get full participation and hold everyone's attention for the full two hours each time (I know because you see the faces because...well...zoom). He was able to provide informative content, engage us in good learning activities, and "got the job done." Excellent improv class in LA or in my case...online during COVID. Keith was amazing over zoom and made everyone feel comfortable. It was my first time taking an improv class and I was looking to learn and practice some of the improv skills. I would have love to take the class live but the online experience definitely made a huge difference. You can learn to be more creative, more present and less judgmental of the things you say. One of the biggest takeaway I've gotten from the class is that we all say things and then realize that it was not the best thing to say, this can be 5 min from the time we said it or right after we said it. The goal here is to shorten that time frame and stop it in our head before we even say it. The online environment was very chill, we go through many experiences, each building on top of each other.
