I moved to Los Angeles 4 months ago and wanted to get my feet wet in the acting and improv community. I knew nothing at the time about improv, the community, or had any friends over here. I researched through Yelp and found ImprovLA. After seeing all the positive reviews I signed up for ImprovLA Fast forward to today, and I am now done with the beginner level Improv class (8 weeks). WOW! What a blast! Keith has a natural ability to teach improv and a positive nature about him that makes it easy to perform and learn from such a non-judgemental person. Towards the end of the classes Keith would ask us where we thought we needed to improv (individually) with our improv. I don't know how he does it, but he was able to cater individual drills for these areas to help people strengthen themselves in their areas. The class was filled with a mixture of actors and people who worked "office" jobs, who were trying to learn new life skills. This class can help you with anxiety, hold a better conversation, become a better listener, and using the core improv golden rule to "yes and" every situation that you encounter in life. If you are new to improv or want to help build a better foundation to many types of life skills then take this class. Excellent improv class in LA or in my case...online during COVID. Keith was amazing over zoom and made everyone feel comfortable. It was my first time taking an improv class and I was looking to learn and practice some of the improv skills. I would have love to take the class live but the online experience definitely made a huge difference. You can learn to be more creative, more present and less judgmental of the things you say. One of the biggest takeaway I've gotten from the class is that we all say things and then realize that it was not the best thing to say, this can be 5 min from the time we said it or right after we said it. The goal here is to shorten that time frame and stop it in our head before we even say it. The online environment was very chill, we go through many experiences, each building on top of each other. Wow, I didn't know what to expect going into the Improv level 1 class but it was incredible! Our instructor Sean really created a safe space for us to all get creative, expressive, and break out of our nervousness! Everyone in the class were either beginners or looking to refresh their performance skills. But one thing we shared was our nervous exuberance to just get started and we all ended up co-creating such a fun environment! Especially with this being one of their first in-person classes since Covid started, everyone was so excited to jump in and have fun! I had a fun time doing Improv with Sarah and the rest of the class. Learning about the fundamentals of improv and how important it is to collaborate with your team is what makes improv more fun and natural. I also loved seeing the kind of creativity my team mates had and the stories they were able to take out from that. It's always fun to see the different interactions that come out on the stage and we got more insights as to how to help our scenes run smoothly and transition better. I think the pointers Sarah gave really helped and they helped me think things through about my scene and where I needed improvement. I took a Level 1 class with instructor Keith. Hey, Keith! He was amazing and made sure we were all getting the concepts (no one left behind!) and made us do scenes all the time which makes us get out of our shell. Each week built on the week before. He knew everything there is to improv, he always was ready to answer questions, and now I feel I have the basics of creating an improv scene and feel better about thinking on my feet and just making outlook/possibilities/everything funnier and more creative. I just finished taking Level 1 with Sean and I'm so glad I took a leap of faith into improv. As someone who struggles with social anxiety, I wasn't sure if I'd be able to make it through, but Sean was such a great instructor and made me look forward to coming to class each week. I took level 1 with Sarah and can't speak highly enough about the experience. She did an incredible job making everyone feel comfortable, led a fun class, and seemed genuinely invested in helping people learn. The class's performance improved noticeably every week, and by the end, even the people who were initially terrified (myself included) were having a great time. I just finished level 1 with Keith, and it was a lot of fun. Don't be nervous about doing an improv class on Zoom. Keith is really good at managing the class virtually, and making sure everyone gets involved. I'm not an actor -- I just wanted to have fun. I work in health care communications and desperately needed a break from talking about the-virus-that-shall-not-be-named. And very first class, Kieth laid out the rules no politics and no virus talk. I took Improv hoping to add to my super beginner acting skills. My feedback in acting was that I was a little stiff and having never acted before, I had major stage fright. I'm so glad I took Keith's level 1 class. I love that this place is open and welcoming of all types of people, not just strictly for actors. A lot less pressure and a LOT more fun! I completed Level 1 of Improv with Keith! If you are a beginner, or even brushing off a break in your career, he is your go to! The classes are grouped and EVERYONE gets a chance to work individually. You also are given multiple turns ti put his techniques to work. Each technique is necessary to have, in your actor's pocket. Improv-LA is a fantastic place to study Improv. I've studied improv all over and they're really good. It's more of a long-form approach which is definitely my cup of tea. You learn the different styles of long-form such as Los Angeles, Chicago, and London, with Tokyo, Canadian and New York styles coming up. My classmates are fantstic--very talented--always very professional and experienced. We just had a great Level 2 graduation show (yes, they give you a public improv performance venue in your last class). I love this place. Lots of places have great teachers--otherwise they wouldn't be teaching. However, this Level 2 teacher we had, Daniel, was so far beyond just being a veteran improvisor and improv instructor. He is so thoughtful, and caring, and considerate, and supportive--you just don't always run into people like that everyday out walking around on the street, much less improvisational theatre instructors, like Daniel, for every class at all these other places--sometimes--but not always. Daniel should be cloned as the consummate Improv instructor. I've completed various Los Angeles area improv programs0--all the way through to graduation--and made it part-way through others--till I found they were not my cup of tea. Just finished my level 1 class with Keith, and all I can say is that I am excited for level 2! Keith's level 1 class is really for anyone out there thinking about getting into improv. As a person who sometimes can be quite shy around ppl and overthinking things, this class opened my eyes on seeing how fun and exciting life can be when you get out of your comfort zone. Pretty much the class consisted of 1) learning improv techniques 2) no judgment 3) lots and I mean lots of laughs 4) team building and 5 non-stop fun. I am just wrapping up level 1 with Shaun Fisher. Shaun did an amazing job creating a welcoming environment for all of us to simultaneously laugh and have a great time, while also challenging and growing ourselves in a supportive and energizing environment.  His personal sense of humor was so warm, which honestly helped alleviate any awkwardness that we came into the class with, and his feedback on our scenes was always smart, helpful, and on point.  He also did a great job calling out all the things we were doing well, which was emboldening and encouraged us to take more risks because we all felt so safe and supported.   I would literally take any class Shaun teaches, he is a gem and his level 1 class was a huge boost of joy and release of stress each week.  So big thanks to Improv LA and Shaun!  I really hope the studio offers a weekend level 2 class with him -- I know that I would sign up in a heartbeat! read more

Keith's Level 1 class is surprisingly energizing! I went in not knowing what to expect, except that I wanted to find the silliness within myself and get over my fear of being on my toes. Keith helped to dissolve all those mental barriers involved and within the first class were all acting out scenes. EVERYONE CAN DO IMPROV. It's given me confidence outside of class and has helped me to stop judging myself. It's a chance to play freely as an adult and recover those fun times lost to childhood. I'm continuing on to Level 2 because I'm noticing my social skills improving. Keith's classes are well organized (or appear to be so--same thing), and every exercise we do is designed to teach us or prepare us for something. I've been taking private lessons with Keith for about a year and a half. Keith is a genuinely kind, helpful and knowledgeable coach. We would break down scenes that happened in my class with a local teacher (I'm outside of LA) and he brought so much wisdom, clarity, and knowledge to me. I felt like armed with his insights and explanations I was able to progress much faster at my local school than I would otherwise. Keith is very well organized, on time, and professional but also warm and friendly. He is very flexible and will do whatever you need to work on. Get ready for an energy lift. There were days I'd walk into it tired or depressed and walk out pumped. Larger than life movement and speech has a way of doing that, but there's no way it would've happened as quickly without the right instructor to guide it. Keith is a pro that deliberately sets the stage for everything to fall into place. He's done improv for 15 years and travels the world teaching students from all walks of life. I figure his deep background in this has taught him how to identify strengths and areas for improvement in his students so that he adjusts his lessons for them to get the most out of them. I'm living proof that Keith knows his stuff. I went into his class with the idea of becoming more engaging and dynamic in public and interpersonal communication. The games and exercises he had us doing had the effect of desensitizing the fear out of us so that I no longer obsesses on what people think of what I say or do. Within a couple weeks after taking these classes, I started winning best speaker awards at Toastmasters, and day-to-day conversations with people no longer felt so labored. Keith is a great teacher! I started this class like most of the other reviewers, more than a little apprehensive but here we are at midway through the course and I'm absolutely loving it! Word of advice though, be punctual! Even on the first day or you may get locked out. Personally, I appreciate this, because it just means that those who made the effort to get to class on time aren't going to be compromised to accommodate late comers. Improv LA definitely deserves the constant 5 stars it's received. If you're contemplating doing improv, especially for the first time, you're in good hands with Keith. I never thought I would take a class like this, but I am glad I did. Based on the reviews and my interest I felt like this was something I wanted to do. Every morning before class I felt anxiety about performing and learning something new. We started every class with dance party. At first it feels scary, but once you are done with that exercise you feel ready and willing to go. It helps loosen you up seeing everyone just being silly and having a great time. Keith is an amazing teacher and if I had a teacher like that when I was younger I probably would have done better in school. He made us feel comfortable and encouraged us everyday. He has so much energy and passion for what he does. We were lucky enough to have an awesome group of people taking the class. A couple of days Sean taught class and he is just as amazing.
