So it's not quite in the hub bub of downtown Evanston so parking isn't much of an issue. The massage therapist does everything to make it quite a homey and comfy, from the type of oil she uses, to her table that has a warming feature. Jennifer Schweizer is awesome (only because I can't think of a better word to explain how good she is at what she does)! I like to get my money's worth in a massage so I'm more of a deep tissue work type girl anyway, but as a professional she asks about pressure and what part ails you. She not only releases a lot of tension, but she even gave me recommendations on exercises to try to avoid buildup in those areas. I visited her every month since my first trimester. My first review --…read more After several months of suffering with an area of skin sensitivity near my shoulder blade, I made an appointment with Alex Dold. It was kind of a strange problem, because there was no rash or redness, and the area didn't itch. There was just a patch of skin that was extremely sensitive to touch. If I wore anything that was too tight in that area, like a sports bra, it was actually painful. The only thing that helped was putting a bandage on the area. After hearing the description of my symptoms, Alex decided to address the problem with both acupuncture and herbs. Amazingly, several days after the first treatment, the sensitivity was completely gone. I was thrilled. I continued to take the herbs twice a day. After a couple of weeks, the sensitive patch returned. I went back for a follow-up treatment with Alex, and then decided I should do a few more. It's now been a couple of months with no recurrence of the sensitive patch. I am so thankful that my skin feels normal again. My second review-- I had flown to California for a long weekend with friends. On the day before we were to fly home, I didn't feel well. I had a sore throat and just felt exhausted. On the flight home, I became overheated and dizzy. I even had to be transported to baggage claim in a wheelchair. I spent the next day in bed, and then developed a cough. For the next couple of days, I felt miserable and had trouble sleeping at night because I was coughing constantly. At my morning appointment, Alex first treated me with acupuncture, and then mixed up some herbs with instructions to take them 3 times per day. I was able them 3 times that day, and again the next day. By that second day, my cough was totally gone. I couldn't believe it happened that fast! I continued taking the herbs anyway. I went back the following week for another appointment, and told Alex that he was a miracle worker.

Also, just a heads up - when I opened the Bravo Tea teabags they recommended that I bought, they were so tiny - it seemed like with hardly any herb in them - but measured out, it is a bit less than a full teaspoon, which is about what many herbalists recommend for most herbs.

But my pockets reminded me that I'm not carrying Queen funds, so I centered myself and zoned in on essential oils. I am having issues with spiders entering my new work vehicle somehow. It's brand new, so no food or anything to attract them. I read and heard that peppermint oil would help deter them. The store had plenty of peppermint oils, along with eucalyptus, lavender, lemon, etc. They sell the BeNatu brand at $19.99 for a 4oz glass bottle. You can get this exact brand/bottle/size at Wally World or Crimezon for $9.99, but I'd rather spend twice the money to support local. Before I left town, I went back and bought 4 more bottles. (SN: The oils absolutely helped. Haven't seen a spider inside the car for the past 2 weeks!) I love and prefer natural remedies, so the next time I'm in the Chi, I'll shop for more than just the essential oils. I didn't take any pictures inside the store because it felt a little rude to do so. But the staff was nice and offered warm smiles. They have many imported items, so naturally the inscriptions are in varying languages. If you have questions, just ask. If you're going into Chinatown, turn west on Cermak, and they are located about halfway down that block. When I made a walk in appointment, I was introduced to Anna and Vivian. I was told by both ladies they accept walk-ins and scheduled appointments. I scheduled my massage for later in the week and looked forward to my session. I've made multiple visits to this chain and the massages they provide here are just as good as the Lincolnwood location, if not better. The Tui Na style of massage uses a firm amount of pressure. If you're not accustomed to this style, you may want to tell your therapist to go easy on you. So far I've made two trips to this location and every massage I've received has been phenomenal. I have caught myself snoring multiple times during my sessions. I've realized if someone can push me to that level of relaxation, they've earned high marks in my book. Every time I leave, I feel relaxed and sedated. I'm guessing it's from the post massage high I get after releasing all tension/knots from my body. This chain has attractive pricing. It's roughly a dollar per minute which signals good value for a quality massage. I posted a review for the Lincolnwood location, and I'm assuming their setups are similar. The ambiance is informal given there are no private rooms for table or chair massages. Everything is all set up in one room. If your priority is solely about the ambiance; this might not be the place for you. Rather the focus here is the quality and decent cost of the massage. There is a bit of a language barrier so conversations are kept to a minimum but the staff understands some English to get by. Adjusting to the situation takes some getting used to. My last massage was a 75 minute table and post session, I was given a bottle of water. The parking situation is a little tough compared to the Lincolnwood facility. The Evanston Art of Health only has metered parking. Despite the minor inconvenience, this spot is closer to home so I plan to make this my regular stop.
