I'm a Believer! Meghan Schmit is a very talented healer. I was seeing a conventional podiatrist about a bone spur in my heel that caused debilitating pain. My doctor wanted me to get an expensive MRI as a likely prelude to surgery. But I had heard about some great work that Meghan has done and thought that maybe I should investigate her approach before I start down the more conventional path of Western medicine. That was a very, very good decision on my part. I met with Meghan about 10 times over eight weeks for acupuncture on my heel and leg. Each session usually lasted about 45-55 minutes. In that time, Meghan got me back on my feet, pain-free and so much more. Not only did she effectively address the pain but she also prescribed a daily routine of specific stretches to help me get to the root of what caused the spur in the first place. And while we were at it, because I had mentioned feeling congested from allergies, she concocted an herbal tea recipe that completely cleared that up as well. Acupuncture and herbal medicine have been around for over 3,000 years. So I probably shouldn't have been surprised that it was so effective. What did NOT surprise me though was how thoughtful and careful and creative Meghan Schmit was in diagnosing my situation and expertly delivering the appropriate remedies. I had an appointment with Meghan, and my child has Hand, Foot Mouth disease. I had to cancel my appointment within 24 hours and was charged the full fee. I understand that I signed a consent for cancellation policy, but I've never had a place uphold this when a sick child with a contagious disease is involved. Frank has great reviews, and he was also highly recommended by Dr. Geeta Maker-Clark, a holistic MD at Northshore who I saw. I'm a guitar instructor who came to Frank with a frozen shoulder condition. He has experienced that himself, is also a guitar player, and he showed great interest and dedication in helping me: after the acupuncture session, he used a massage gun and then cupping technique to stimulate blood circulation and help release fascia. He also suggested I use a lacrosse ball and foam roller at home, and he was very familiar with and supportive of all the exercises that physical therapists give a client with frozen shoulder. The facility is beautiful, very clean, and they're very good with following Covid policies. Frank wore a mask the whole time (and so did I.) Now, there are some people who don't respond to acupuncture for various reasons. My MRI revealed that I have multiple tears in the shoulder, and I suspect this was the reason why I didn't respond to the treatments (or the extensive physical therapy exercises that I got from my PT, I should add). But it was absolutely worth a try, and for a lot of people, acupuncture is a very helpful way of speeding up the healing process of frozen shoulder. I just moved back to town and found Meghan through my mom who has been seeing her for awhile and is a huge fan, my mom and I are very different but I of course went for a visit. Off the bat Meghan is very warm and asks the right questions to really figure out what's going on. After her sessions I feel great, my biggest issue has been allergies and energy. I used to wake up and drink coffee everyday. I've replaced coffee with her prescription herbs! I also find that when I forget my allergy medicine it doesn't even matter! Dr. Frank Scott is my MVP of anything injury or illness. I've been going to him for many years and he has "fixed" things for me that regular medical practitioners could not. He's remarkably patient, kind, positive, thorough, you never feel rushed, and he makes you very comfortable in all aspects of the treatment. And his knowledge is just endless. I ponder how it's possible to know so much in depth about so many things. I personally do a lot of research on things myself and value someone who really knows their stuff. Oh and needles.... let's just say i HATE needles worse than most anything, and i willingly, happily go for treatment because it's so effective and beneficial. Dr. Frank will also use methods such as cupping, Chinese herbs, etc, depending on your ailment. And he will give you exercises if it pertains to your issue. During treatment, he plays nice soothing music for you if you'd like. There's also a heated table which is great because i'm always cold, and the mylar blanket is a must for me as well. I always refer him to others who are struggling to find relief and can't. As far as the small details, it's very easy parking in downtown Evanston and most of the time i find parking right in front of the Wellspring door. I started seeing Meghan Schmit a little over a year ago to deal with back pain and a recurring lower back spasm. I was skeptical that acupuncture would help but had reached a point where I was willing to try anything. A little over a month ago I had the unfortunate experience of developing a painful kidney stone. I was reluctant to pursue the traditional medicine protocol of pain killers and hospitalization to extract the stone (I underwent that uncomfortable route over twenty years ago during a bout with a previous stone). I had recently read that traditional Chinese medicine has had success in treating kidney stones. A friend of mine referred me to Wellspring Integrative Clinic in Evanston where I was seen by Meghan, who is an acupuncturist and herbalist. After taking a detailed history from me, Meghan prescribed a course of treatment which included Acupuncture and a personalized formulation of Chinese herbal medicine. Her acupuncture treatment provided me with immediate pain relief and over the next week the herbs she prescribed for me worked to dissolve the kidney stone to the point where I was able to pass it naturally. I continued to drink the herbal tea for the next week or so to make sure that I was able to eliminate whatever bits of the stone might've remained in my system. I am now thankfully totally pain-free! I have Meghan to thank for that. Her detailed knowledge of the body's systems allowed her to not only assess my problem but also to devise the best treatment plan. Frank is the best! I had a great experience with him two years ago when he performed accupuncture for chronic back pain. I was pain free for two years until an injury a few months ago. I go here to see acupuncturist Frank Scott, who's been my acupucturist since, get this, 1997. My going to this practitioner has outlasted my first marriage, my first car (Saturn- loved it), my living in Evanston, and who knows how many jobs. My present husband goes to Frank too, so you know that's a good sign. :-) So Frank is really good at acupucture and Chinese herbs and just being a good human being. He's very non judgemental and can recommend lifestyle or food changes that can help a lot in addition to the acupuncture and herbs. He can mix up custom herbal powders for you, or just tell you what supplements or teas to get on your own if you prefer. If you are willing to take supplements or eat special foods or take special morning or evening teas tell him because he can recommend things to you. Many patients won't bother with that stuff so he won't push it at all. I think it's great to know what tea helps me in the morning and what tea and supplements help me in the eve. But hey, I'm just crazy in that preventative medicine, stay healthy rather than wait until you're sick kind of way. Overall for Wellspring Integrative Medicine the location is clean, low-key, and peaceful. You can have tea or water while you wait. This place is right in downtown Evanston, and the street entrance is very low profile, one glass door in between various restaurants, which leads up a flight of stairs and they are on the 2nd floor. I drive now but you can also take the train. I just had my first appointment with Frank Scott, and it was excellent in every way. Frank was really personable and listened carefully to what I was there for (neck pain.) The setting was lovely and very calming. Frank administered three treatments: acupuncture, cupping and an adjustment that didn't seem to have an English name but resembled a gentle chiropractic adjustment, stretching my shoulder muscles. The application of the needles didn't hurt at all. They stayed in for 30 minutes, during which time I was lying face down in a dimly lit room with soothing music.
