Our 2 year-old rescue had…read moreescalating fear-based reactivity, and though we had been seeing another trainer 1-2x a week for nearly 5 months, we weren't progressing as much as we would have liked. Even the trainer we had been seeing could not safely approach us when she was in our hands, despite having worked with her for months. Through Yelp and social media, I found another dog trainer who referred us to Courtney due to her experience owning and competing in French Ring with Belgian Malinois (if you don't know what French Ring is, look it up - it requires incredible skill and discipline). Honestly, I wish we had found her sooner! We would have saved ourselves a lot of time, money, and stress/anxiety about social situations. Courtney is an amazing trainer, and so incredibly patient. Our 1:1 lessons throughout the program were beyond helpful, and Courtney never once rushed us or made us feel silly for asking a million questions. The video updates we received throughout were also super useful to reference in order to transfer the skills and subtleties of movement and positioning to our own handling. Plus, she offers boarding services to program graduates, and hosts monthly group classes and group walks to help you maintain everything she's taught. Our maligator came back a completely different dog. We learned that her reactive behaviors were an expression of her insecurity that made her feel strong and powerful in uncomfortable situations, but that deep down, she's actually a very respectful dog - she just needed clearer communication and shown how to behave appropriately in uncomfortable scenarios. Handling her is so much easier and a lot more fun now, and on our group walk along the river, we were so impressed with how well she handled the crowded sidewalks and distractions! We also now have the peace of mind that she has a safe space for boarding where she won't lose her skills should we need to travel. I get it - dog training is expensive. But I believe every dog owner should either be committed to investing in quality dog training, or dedicating substantial time and effort to train their dog. You wouldn't have kids without sending them to school right? The same applies to dogs. And, like kids, you need to practice everyday to continually enforce the good habits and skills so that they become second nature. Of course, it's reassuring to know that Courtney is there every step of the way, and lifelong, for guidance! Owning a dog is an investment, and training is 100% worth it to establish the foundation for a fun, healthy, lifelong relationship. We cannot thank Courtney enough for helping us develop that bond with our pup. I would absolutely recommend her and Alyssa to anyone looking for quality dog training!

Sally is the most wonderful trainer and person. She has been rescuing, fostering, and training dogs…read morefor years, and her experience shows. We were lucky enough to adopt our dog Stella from Sally, and we are so incredibly grateful. Sally had fostered Stella for a few weeks and trained her very well, so when we brought Stella home she was already house trained despite being found abandoned in a dog park only weeks before. Stella heeds commands, she is respectful of other dogs both on and off leash, she doesn't beg for food, she doesn't bark incessantly, she knows her boundaries inside the house, and she is the sweetest little thing in the world. A couple years after we adopted her she did go through a teenager-style phase of not wanting to listen to us once she was off leash, so we booked a couple refresher sessions with Sally at Run-A-Mutt and Stella was back to her best behavior in no time. We are so grateful for her and so in love with our sweet girl, and we would never have found her if it wasn't for Sally! If your dog is in need of some training, there is no one in Reno or Tahoe who will care more about your dog than Sally. Hire her!

When we adopted our dog, Harper, she was reactive and fearful in public, barking to keep things…read morethat scared her away. At home, she was loving, joyful, and goofy, but also scared of things like the TV and pretty much anything new. We immediately started training her at reputable places for behavioral training and enrolled in a couple classes (and some private sessions) for reactiveness, obedience, and even tricks to help her build confidence and to give her some structure. While they helped, she was still easily triggered and couldn't calm down quickly. Dealing with this over the months has been at times frustrating, tiring, and even embarrassing. Then we found Sarah and Dogz Training. She was offering training that wouldn't last just for a few classes and then you're on your own. She'll be working with us for six months, so she can really help us learn (because we're getting trained too) how to help Harper not become overwhelmed in real-life situations. We started in our house, our back and front yards, and have progressed to our neighborhood. And we can already see Harper's progress in all of those places. We've had a lot of conflicting advice before, but what Sarah has brought is actual knowledge of dog behavior, both academic (she has a masters in Education and is a CPDT-KA) and practical (many years of actual hands-on experience working with dogs of all kinds). Her advice really works, and we've found it easy to follow, achievable, and at all times humane (unlike some places that insist positive reinforcement doesn't work). She's also patient, and a decent and caring human being who always returns our texts (even the misclicks!). There's still plenty of training to go, but we're so grateful (and relieved) to have found such knowledgeable and effective training with Sarah. The vet "vaccine" only buys you some time to get to the emergency room; it doesn't prevent the effects of venom. So we wanted Maggie to STAY AWAY from snakes! All snakes! Our experience at Dogz was fabulous! Their "snake proofing" is a progressive class that starts with getting your dog's attention in no uncertain terms, teaching the LEAVE IT! command (which you can use on ANYTHING) and progresses to snake SOUNDS, and then to LIVE SNAKES. By the end of the training, your dog will want NOTHING to do with snakes! It's a great investment in your dog's safety. Maggie went back after one year for a "tune-up" and she IMMEDIATELY walked a very wide, wary berth around the live snakes. So she RECALLED all of her training, and we can assume she'll act the same way in the wild. The cost for the "tune up" is miniscule! It's insurance! You should do it. For snake training, yes, you can go to "that other" company that uses a shock collar. But ask yourself this: Do you want your dog to be afraid of SNAKES, or be afraid every time you put a COLLAR on your dog? Self-evident answer, right? Go to Dogz!

Still, I would like to save someone else from the very negative and disrespectful experience I had with Kaii. After looking for a board and train professional for my 4-month-old Yorkie, I discovered Kaii and her partner on Thumbtack. Her reviews were solid, so I dropped my baby off to her on Sunday, May 16th. I was promised a photo/video update every 48 hours and expected that would happen as I am as much of a client as the dog since, after all, I am the one paying $1400. The first red flag was when I didn't receive an update and had to check in on my baby's wellbeing, but I let that slide and wrote it off to her being busy. Less than 24 hours later, on day 3 of training, I received a late-night text from Kaii stating she had a family emergency and needed to leave town immediately. Fortunately, I was awake to see the text and immediately drove 40 minutes to get my dog. I made it a point to demonstrate compassion because I believe in putting family first and didn't want Kaii to feel bad about the abrupt interruption in the process. I was charged $455 for three days of "boarding and training," but at that time, I believed we would pick up where we left off, and I accepted that. THANK GOD I had the sense to ask the balance be returned until we resumed. I was promised training notes, so I could continue working with my puppy while Kaii was handling "family" business. I followed up three times to get the notes and never received them. After one week, it was clear that any progress made was lost. I certainly feel like for $455; I should have gotten these notes. Kaii stated she would be back on June 1st, and I confirmed that I would like to resume. Around June 3rd, I see posts on Instagram where she is training new dog clients, but I'd yet to receive any call or text to work out particulars for resuming work with my dog. It was clear that she was willing to take money from new people but not make good with those who were cut short. Despite this complete lack of professionalism and customer service, I wanted to believe in her reviews. I sent her a detailed message with my concerns and the desire to continue as I want the best for my puppy. You would think there would have been a return message with an apology about the delayed communication and an offer to make good, right? WRONG! I gave her three business days as everyone gets busy, and maybe Kaii just needed time to respond, but there was no response. I finally called, and again no answer and no return call. So I've lost $455 on THE most expensive boarding ever and have to start all over. Please do not waste your time with someone this unprofessional. I don't doubt she is great with dogs, but customer service for the owner is also part of the equation, and from start to finish, she was a complete failure in this category. If I am honest, I doubt there was a family emergency at this point, but that is neither here nor there. I just don't want anyone else to experience the complete lack of service as it was a very expensive waste of my time.

They were very non-responsive during the 2 weeks, as I requested multiple times for video's and progress reports from the 1st week, in hopes that I can feel confident with the work they were doing, to move into week 2. Not sure why I went against my instinct, but I paid for the second week anyway, and hoped for the best. They say you get a training lesson upon pick up, so I rounded up my whole family to be there to get trained and we drove 40 min to get there. Not only was there no training, there were no notes or any record of any progress whatsoever. They stood there and answered questions and handed me a hand out of generic dog training notes. We got home, and followed every direction in the notes and what was explained. They stated she was fully potty trained on both pee pads and out doors, that she can go 2.5 hours without an accident, sleeps through the night, no longer barks and can sit, spin, and come. She does none of the above! We literally have a small play pen with a pee pad in it and a bed, and she finds a way to go anywhere but the pee pad. We stand outside for 30 mins at a time and she wont go, than the second we bring her in the house she has an accident within 30 seconds. She barks anytime there is a noise, and does not know any commands, even with treats in hand. I feel so duped and upset. We blew $1000 of hard earned money, and lost 2 weeks of bonding with our puppy to leave her with these girls, that did nothing for her. They seem nice, but were unwilling to work with us in any manner. When I was on the fence about the second week, they demanded the money and went off on me, that if they were a proper Bording facility, they would never put up with me, not committing. I really wish I would have gone with my gut on this, and pulled her after the first worthless week. Please save your money, and go elsewhere!

He was so docile on the drive home and slept the whole night after I fed him dinner; he seemed to have completely enjoyed his playtime which was a welcome activity since he was pining for it all week. The ladies at the front desk in the morning and afternoon are all very sweet, my dog especially likes gal in the morning, he goes to her without hesitation. Overall, I think my pup enjoyed his time at Daycare.
