This In-Shape has been my Bakersfield home gym since the early 2010's and has always given a good gym experience . I love all the recovery options offered at this location. The steam room is one of my favorite amenities, and I really appreciate how good of a job the staff does at maintaining the cleanliness of the steam room. I've also become a fan of the cryolounge recently. It's a great and comfortable way to get some cold therapy. I'll even do some remote work on my phone after my work out while chilling on one of their cryolounges. Their staff is very kind and attentive. They always have a welcoming smile and are sure to say bye on the way out. They're consistently cleaning the towels and do a great job upkeaping the equipment. This In-Shape location has a good selection of free weights and machines. It can fill out a bit at peak times, but I have always been able to find a way to get a full workout in. I do wish they had a dedicated space to stretch, do yoga, floor based workouts, and cardio such as ladders, boxing, or even dancing. They had 2 dedicated spaces for this when they first opened this location, but these spaces are now used for group classes. The larger room on the base floor is still available for free use when classes are not scheduled, so keep an eye on the schedule if you want to utilize it for your workout. While I miss being able to do all the activities mentioned before in those rooms, it is great to see the rooms utilized to their fullest with the group classes. read more

I rarely leave negative reviews, but I feel parents deserve to know what to expect. I enrolled two children in paid swim lessons at In-Shape Seven Oaks. These lessons are not included with my membership. They are a separate service that I paid for, so I expected them to be run professionally. Unfortunately, the lesson started about 25 minutes late and ended 20 minutes early. My children did not receive the full lesson that I paid for. That is simply unacceptable. After I raised my concerns, several other parents shared that this has been an ongoing issue for them as well. One family told me this was their third week experiencing the same problem and that they had already brought it to management's attention, but nothing had changed. That was the most disappointing part of this experience. I do want to recognize Carolina, the swim instructor. She has been wonderful with the children, and this review is not about her. It is about the lack of organization and accountability from management. Seven Oaks has a reputation for being one of the premier In-Shape locations, and I expected much better. If you're going to offer paid swim lessons, they should begin on time, end on time, and provide the full instruction that families are paying for. Parents arrange their schedules around these lessons and spend their hard-earned money expecting the service that was advertised. I hope management takes these concerns seriously and makes the necessary changes so future families receive the quality of service they deserve. read more

Fix the machines!!!! They all are rusty from being outside from covid 2021, and torn to shreds literally. This club is not "luxury" or the best in Bakersfield. Common sense isn't so common machines are breaking down, weights rusty and pins coming out. Cords snapping. Pool area will be closed for a month. At 2 PM on 9/4/2026, I have never been treated with such RACISM and disrespect! This is the 3rd time by the same male staff member at the reception desk. This is now a pattern of racism. All other staff members and management are excellent. I do not tolerate disrespect and racism! I will speak with management at this gym (that is very exspensive and supposed to be top tier) after the holiday. I truly appreciate the welcoming atmosphere that InShape Family Fitness offers. As soon as one walks through the doors, the staff at the front desk greet members warmly. Having attended for about one and a half years, I have had the pleasure of becoming acquainted with many of the team members, including Gavin, Mason, Amanda, Johnny, and Kaileb, among others. They consistently demonstrate exceptional hard work, managing daily challenges while maintaining a respectful and inviting environment, even amid the understandable busyness on weekdays. I highly recommend this gym, not only for its attentive and supportive staff but also for the diverse community of members, the quality equipment, and the comprehensive amenities provided. This GYM is shit. I'll keep it simple. I go to this gym for the pool and spin classes. And the pool is Always dirty they have been cleaning it with the equivalent of a cordless dust buster for an Olympic size swimming pool. Now they are taking over the pool from the people that have memberships that want to swim laps and giving swim lessons and also closing the pool for hours at a time for lifeguard training.... It's bull shit to have it closed from 4-7pm, the prime time people want to use the pool. Also after they let all these kids in the pool the water is cloudy from and the pee. Also the SPA was closed down for 3 plus weeks. Their maintenance department is at inadequate.. All they need to do is hire a professional pool cleaning company that would come three days a week also hire a professional pool maintenance company that knows how to work on the equipment. I'm sure there's $150,000 plus in pool equipment that they're letting teenagers service and they have no idea what they're doing...... This is the Premium GYM and we are not getting Premium service. I could see the SPA going down 7 days but 21 come on get some competent people.... . read more

Had a great experience signing up. Shout out to Jonathan for helping me out and giving me a great tour of the facility and amenities! Always appreciate a good first impression when it comes to considering a membership anywhere. All my questions were answered. The staff seems to make extra efforts to maintain the cleanliness of the equipment and amenities. App is easy to use. I asked if there were key FOBs available but they said it is only via app now to check-in so make sure you charge your phone before checking in. It is important to note that this location is more expensive than the other ones. My husband and I were looking at convenience as well as how busy the machines/equipment are. Doesn't seem to be much of a problem here since it is more expensive to be a member. This is important if you are busy and just want to be in and out for a quick workout. read more

Terrible child care! The daycare workers are cold and dismissive at the Seven Oaks location. They do not interact, play or talk to the children at all but instead just stand around expecting children to entertain themselves. The staff is friendly, kind and these facts show how good the manager is at running the gym. Bad experience interacting with the manager at the Bakersfield Coffee Rd Location. I believe her name is "Marisol." I have been a member for years and I stayed active during the pandemic. and they recently increased my membership fee by more than 100%. I went from paying less than $30 per month to nearly $60.00 per month. One reason I didn't quit (besides enjoying zumba classes there) was the option of bringing a guest, which has worked smoothly until today. I brought a registered guest that has accompanied me multiple times. Every time he had his id but nobody asked for it. So this time, he forgot it. The "manager" Marisol refused to let us work out. I informed her that he forgot his ID, and that other hadn't asked for it when he did have it previously. I also explained that we live 20 miles away, and that I was there for a zumba class that was just starting and that we'd make sure to bring his id next time, but she refused like if she was top flight security of the world. The easiest and most rational thing in the world would be to have said, "I'm sorry sir, I'll let you guys work out this time, but please remember to bring the id next time becuase I won't be able to let you in." Instead, she raised her voice was rude and unprofessional to the point that I had to disengage an walk out to avoid being rude to her in return. She did this in front of several people in the lobby causing embarrasement for me and my guest. If this is how they treat customers who have stuck with them for years, I can only imagine how they treat newer customers. I don't "need" in-shape, there are other clubs I can go to and I will begin looking around. They also took away the outdoor workout equipment by the pool, which I used primarily because i prefer lifting in fresh air. They also removed massage chair access from my plaint, despite doubling my dues. I had to pay more just to get that access back, even though it was part of my plan previously. Also had my car vandalized in their parking lot. In-shape is asking too much for dues, too little in return and now adding on the drama of having to arguing with dumbass people with no common sense for customer retention. Think twice and compare before you sign up with these jokers. read more

These are the unsafest parking lots in the city. Two of my cars have been broken into. It's be nice if the gym had security driving around like body xchange or better lighting. As a former manager within the In-Shape corporation, I'm somewhat biased to the brand. However, there is no doubt that these are the best clubs in town, and it's not really that close. This club in particular stands out as a country club-type atmosphere with the outdoor pool, but with the makings of an upscale club you'd find in bigger cities. The entire club was clean, there were plenty of machines available, the Group X schedule had over 60 hours of classes, the staff was friendly, and they happened to have a pool party the day I came with the kids. Overall, a fantastic facility. Too bad I live 20-25 minutes away. Keep up the good work team. read more

Place is always crowded Monday - Wednesday after 3:45p.m. and I must wait for cardio machines to become available. The same goes for the equipment. Two of my favorite pieces of equipment are broken- the diversion lat pull-down and stair master upstairs. Today I was on a machine and tripped over a vacuum the employee left there. I guess it feel down in back of me while I was using the machine. This club is not worth $150.00 a month. I found another gym and canceled my membership here. Now I must wait one month to be canceled and I can't wait. This gym is unsafe and falling apart. Just look at the rubber molding that separates the rubber floor from the wood color floor- thats also loose and is unsafe. It looks the same throughout the gym! Can't you guys fix that? This is my home GYM I have been going for 2 years consistently. What keeps me coming back are the spin classes taught by Jolie. I have been taking spin classes for almost 20 years now. I started at 24hour fitness, then moved to body exchange and now In-Shape. I would say Jolie is in a class of her own, very friendly and motivating. I hope she continues to teach for many years to come. I wish I could give this Gym 5 starts but it's getting old and needs a remodle. Bathrooms fixtures, countertops and mirrors need replaced, pool needs remodeled, and when gym amenities, go down or break It takes way to long to get items repaired or Replaced. This place is one of the most expensive gyms in Bakersfield, yet it barely has basic equipment for the entire community. They lack many machines, such as a sissy squat machine, a leverage Smith machine, and a squat machine (we have none), but the White Lane location, which is 70% cheaper, has them. The dead bugs floating on the surface is nasty. The spa is still not working right. 1 phone call to Altas pools and Brad would have that pool clean and working properly. inshape FF isn't the same. specifically seven Oaks location... Every other location, exceeds expectation on size and availability of equipment. Since most of the old staff in the last six months left cleanliness has been down new staff walks around barley cleans, current old staff is good and friendly continues to do job. Great location. Nice new building. Empty, like a haunted house on some days. Staff is pretty clueless and you don't really see them around. I see a trainer once in a while. Most gyms half this size has 3-4 constantly around. I was told I have to pay more than other InShape to be here. Because it's premium so I should pay more. The equipments are nice and new. The cold towel fridge is nice and empty. So most days when I go in the early morning is just the front desk girl and a cleaning lady. What a sorry excuse for a "premium" club. Oh BTW if you pay another $20 a month you can use their electric massage chair, unlimited. The only reason I go there is because it's across the street from my house. This place is nice, but that's ultimately what you're paying for... the location. The gym itself is clean on some days usually just early in the morning when they show it to new guests. The afternoons and nights are gross... Yesterday I took a shower after my workout and there was a Kotex/Pad in the shower.... USED with blood on it. I would've taken a picture but my phone was dead..There's also always tons of hair on the shower/locker room floor. I've once found a bloody underwear on the shower floor. Not only that, but they have tons of toilets but somehow there's always 2-3 of them clogged up with poo and chunks of toilet paper in them. Don't even get me started on the pool area... You constantly here over the intercom "can I get a pool check?" But I've noticed multiple times, that no one ever comes out to check it. They failed to show me the "cabanas" up close on the tour.. they are disgusting. The blue beds to lay on are stained with white and brown.. God know what.. good thing they have towels at our service to cover up the pool beds. Also, there's bandages floating in the pool and the water is always foggy because it's hardly ever cleaned/checked on. The jacuzzi/sauna is cleaner so I stick to that. On a positive note, the gym equipment is pretty clean compared to other gyms. I always see InShape guests wiping their machines after using it. And the cold refrigerated towels are the best while working out. Staff definitely needs to work on cleanliness in the locker rooms and the pool area. read more

When this gym opened it was a good gym. It has gone downhill, and my most recent "customer service" experience leaves me looking for new gyms. The staff could care less about broken machines, dirty bathrooms, and the broken/dirty pool and spa area. The outside area is where they keep junk and half of the cabanas are missing zippers or ties to keep them closed. The unsanitary behavior that happens in the spa is gross, but it doesn't matter to the staff. Trying to get ahold of the manager is impossible. The assistant managers are constantly throwing other managers under the bus for not knowing things. I was actually told, "she doesn't know what she's talking about. Plus, you didn't speak to me." I'm disappointed as this gym had potential when it opened, but it's now an overpriced dirty gym with entitled staff. We've watched incidents where people are behaving extremely rude or bullying like towards other members and staff walk by like nothing happened. We stopped putting our kids in kids club due to the bullying behavior that is allowed. Basic questions don't get answered, and if they are answered, another employee will tell you something else. Too be honest, this gym is no better than an overpriced Planet Fitness. read more

I have to admit I was hesitant of going to the gym after covid started and no not because of getting covid was more in the way of it not being the same as being indoor but I gave it a try and have been going as much as I can now..its different but it still has everything you need to work out..I can see the effort everyone there put into it to make it possible..they have cleaning spray bottles everywhere and I do see everyone wiping down the machine after use and the employees changing out wiping towels for clean ones..thank you for all your efforts and thank you for staying open even if its outside..thank you to all the employees at IN SHAPE on ming...I do look forward to things getting back to normal but til than I am good with the outside gym. read more

So after my previous post, and after speaking to the kids club manager, he was very nice and understanding and promised to work on extending the kids club hours.. also Michael T. From their member services reached out to me to let me know they care about my concern.. shortly after two months they informed me that the kids club hours had changed and now they're open all day until 8 I think.. I was so glad to hear that.. I've been taking my kids there and they love it the staff is so friendly, the space is super safe and clean, plus the workout area is also super clean.. I love this place everything is clean, they care about their members and want to keep them happy.. they definitely deserve a FIVE STAR!!! Very concerned about the kids club hours, they close from 12-4!!! Not an hour or two.. four hours And my bigger concern is they never notified me when I signed up.. first time I got there at 12 all motivated with my two toddlers.. they said sorry we're getting ready to close I was shocked.. very inconvenient.. other then that it's a clean place nice atmosphere but never had the chance to enjoy it.. read more

Added update after company response: I mean less than ten years ago, your company paid $3 million in fines and $23 million in restitution for similar business practices. Looks like you didn't learn a thing. I don't think promotions or deals make up for the fact that you took away the perks that were the reason people joined the gym in the first place. It's simply a horrible business decision to promote free access to message chairs, only to take them away later, and spin it as them not really having been taken away. Just yesterday, I waited in line behind a woman making the exact same point about guest passes, which used to be free, but are now a part of the "elevate package". Bottom line is, the elevate package started when your company started to try to push VTL, which is just a class, that no one wants, marketed with tons of hype. But thanks for letting me know you have frequent deals and promotions. Original post: Has gone downhill a lot. I used to love this place. It was clean, it had free massage chairs, and they offered free coffee in the morning. They were a value gym - pay a bit more, get perks like towels, massage chairs, etc. Then, I think they decided to push this nonsense, VTL training. At first, it was a separate company that was trying to sell classes within the club. They gave away free VTL classes, but no one cared. Then it got even worse: it seems like In-Shape bought into a failing idea, and is ruining their clubs to promote a concept most people just don't want. I mean, this concept takes a whole workout room and leaves it idle all day (you can't go in the room unless a class is in session), except for a few classes no one attends. It an idea that is trying to compete with just doing videos at home. . . and if I wanted that, I'd work out at home. Whatever decision maker pushed the club to go the VTL route, should be fired. Worse, because no one cared and wouldn't pay extra for VTL, they decided to "package" it into an upgrade, and take the free services I used to enjoy and put them in the upgrade. You took away the perks that were the reason to join your club, to force people to use VTL? It just seems like an effort to sell something no one wants. That massage chair I used to enjoy for free? Well, it's now part of the VTL upgrade I don't want. I used to see people waiting for chairs, and now . . . no one uses them. I asked the staff why they took away the massage chairs, and they repeated some line they were trained to say, about how they aren't taking away the chairs. My question, I used to be able to use the chairs, and now I can't unless I buy your VTL upgrade, how is that not taking them away? How can anyone think taking away perks, and trying to resell them packaged with a service no one wants, is a good idea? Less important, but they did this with their rewards system as well. It used to be run in house, but it was outsourced to a cheap company that offers horrible customer service, and has their own set of arbitrary rules. When asked, the club now says they don't run the perks system, and directs you to go online. How is this a good idea for a club that is selling perks and better service? Also, they've cut back on class offerings, while the membership grows. Again, it's a guess, but it seems like they want people taking these ridiculous VTL classes. Or, they don't have the budget for teachers anymore because they are dumping money into VTL. Rather than offer a wide range of options (albeit, some not as attended as others), they've reduce your offerings. Again, seems like a way to artificially pump up VTL numbers by making it your only option. Bottom line, if you want a gym, just pay half as much somewhere else. You used to pay for perks here, but many of those are gone now if you don't want VTL. If you want VTL, then this is your place, and you'll love it. My vote, get rid of VTL, or at least make it as stand alone as possible. If I quit this gym, it's because of "elevate package", and the attempt to push VTL. read more

We like this gym location for being close to home. We usually have no issues with parking although the lot is new with new businesses popping up and will no doubt get busier. The gym is large, spacious and the work out/locker rooms are fairly clean most days. The towels are a plus and I think that the cool facecloths inside the mini fridges (when stocked) are a fantastic idea. We always get a friendly greeting as we come and go. There are many equipment/cardio machines, personal training area, classrooms for Spin etc and a circuit training area. We were interested in personal training so are now involved in that. I always feel so pressured to buy into it after the free session included with membership. It was on the 'to do list' for 2015 however, so we each bought a package (wish we had known we could have shared a package). Cheap, not at all. Worth it in the end - sure hope so. We are committed for 12 mos and doubt we will renew due to all the trouble we have endured from it. I am not a contract type person, especially for gyms but there is just no way around this one. I come in sometimes twice a day to ensure I feel I am getting my money's worth. The one thing - I wish the pool was monitored better by staff. I realize that it is summer, it is hot but the pool is often overrun by unruly teens/unsupervised kids a lot of the time. It is hard to focus on an aqua class for an hour when one cannot hear the music or instructor. I am a swimmer and given these factors I cannot imagine coming to swim laps in the lanes as I had planned to. Maybe this "open swim feel" will die down by Sept. People are here to work out. And please, In Shape work as hard as you can to keep the pool clean re. floating hair. The pool deck, loungers and cabana areas are top notch. Brianne running the zumba - you are great! Love the hydro massage bed but these should be included with the higher cost of membership (they were free for only 2 mos to get you hooked!). Massage chairs are so-so (on the weak side) and not worth the time or extra money. Looking forward to a juice/protein shake bar if they ever put one in - they do have the space for it. It was promised when I signed up many months ago? Now that this club (Jan 2016l) has been downgraded to Platinum what does this mean for Diamond members paying Diamond prices that signed up long before the gym even opened? So lock us into a false contract? No notification either. I found this out through another reviewer and the new Platinum sticker on the gym's window. Months pass, it is back up to Diamond. Wth? Lastly, management... do not ask for anything out of them and you will never be disappointed! 3 stars up from 2 as our year of personal training is over and I have never felt so free from hassles... 2017 update.
