This In-Shape has been my Bakersfield home gym since the early 2010's and has always given a good…read moregym experience . I love all the recovery options offered at this location. The steam room is one of my favorite amenities, and I really appreciate how good of a job the staff does at maintaining the cleanliness of the steam room. I've also become a fan of the cryolounge recently. It's a great and comfortable way to get some cold therapy. I'll even do some remote work on my phone after my work out while chilling on one of their cryolounges. Their staff is very kind and attentive. They always have a welcoming smile and are sure to say bye on the way out. They're consistently cleaning the towels and do a great job upkeaping the equipment. This In-Shape location has a good selection of free weights and machines. It can fill out a bit at peak times, but I have always been able to find a way to get a full workout in. I do wish they had a dedicated space to stretch, do yoga, floor based workouts, and cardio such as ladders, boxing, or even dancing. They had 2 dedicated spaces for this when they first opened this location, but these spaces are now used for group classes. The larger room on the base floor is still available for free use when classes are not scheduled, so keep an eye on the schedule if you want to utilize it for your workout. While I miss being able to do all the activities mentioned before in those rooms, it is great to see the rooms utilized to their fullest with the group classes.

I rarely leave negative reviews, but I feel parents deserve to know what to expect…read more I enrolled two children in paid swim lessons at In-Shape Seven Oaks. These lessons are not included with my membership. They are a separate service that I paid for, so I expected them to be run professionally. Unfortunately, the lesson started about 25 minutes late and ended 20 minutes early. My children did not receive the full lesson that I paid for. That is simply unacceptable. After I raised my concerns, several other parents shared that this has been an ongoing issue for them as well. One family told me this was their third week experiencing the same problem and that they had already brought it to management's attention, but nothing had changed. That was the most disappointing part of this experience. I do want to recognize Carolina, the swim instructor. She has been wonderful with the children, and this review is not about her. It is about the lack of organization and accountability from management. Seven Oaks has a reputation for being one of the premier In-Shape locations, and I expected much better. If you're going to offer paid swim lessons, they should begin on time, end on time, and provide the full instruction that families are paying for. Parents arrange their schedules around these lessons and spend their hard-earned money expecting the service that was advertised. I hope management takes these concerns seriously and makes the necessary changes so future families receive the quality of service they deserve.

I did nothing to provoke him except show up to the sessions that I paid for. To this day, it's still confusing and alarming. Sessions: Alex did not show up to two sessions and left in his vehicle while I was still exercising for one of them. I was always sore after workouts, but it helped to have a trainer who was actually present and showing up to sessions. Waste of time and money if they aren't there. Cleanliness: The bathrooms in this gym are extremely filthy. Every time I went, the toilets and the sink were not working. I told Alex about it and he didn't want to hear it. He brushed me off and told me he was aware of the issue, yet it was never resolved. The bathrooms are worthy of an OSHA complaint or a health department complaint. I considered completing one, but chose to get my refund and get out of there as fast as I could. Extra detail: I am a woman and Alex intimidated me in front of people. Knowing that he is a man, and I was on a contract made this situation unbearable. It made me feel like I couldn't defend myself without potentially losing my hard earned money. This kind of power imbalance is not OK. If you are a woman, please consider a different trainer who will not intimidate or try to humiliate you simply because he can.

They seem to be there just to be friends and hang out like a bunch of high school students. This gym is brand new, maybe a year to a year and a half old at most. The bathrooms are always dirty. I don't know when the staff actually cleans them, but it seems like they never do. I typically go in the morning, and they're dirty. Lately, I've started going in the afternoon, and it's the same issue: dirty bathrooms. Someone left their Crocs on the locker room floor, and they were there for about five days before someone actually picked them up. There is usually trash and dirty shirts left on the locker room floor for days before they are ever picked up. Then there are the elliptical machines. I believe there are about eight of them, and five are currently broken, starting from left to right. Three have out-of-order signs on them, and the other two do not, but the right-side pedals don't work properly. Yet nothing seems to be getting done about it. For a gym that is practically brand new, it shouldn't already be in this condition.

The only downside for me is getting into morning classes. As a parent with a young kiddo and a full 8-5 job, the 5 a.m. classes are the only ones that work, but they're always tough to book. Overall, though, it's such a great workout and atmosphere. I'm hooked!

In the Women's locker room one of the showers couldn't be turned on, another couldn't be shut off and the water was running cold. The one I used could be turned on and the water was warm but the water couldn't be turned entirely off. My son came with me and said in the Men's locker room there was no soap available in the provided dispensers in the showers. He said though they were difficult to turn on they functioned okay but one of the hot/cold indicators was loose. So considering how much membership costs, they really need to do a better job keeping the place maintained.
