I don't know how this place still has customers - between the awful haircuts and disgusting customer service they provide. My one dog's tail is NEVER to be cut- I told them multiple times not to trim a single hair on it. Well they did, chopped about 1/2 of the fur off, and even admitted they did. The general haircuts on both my pups were much shorter than I requested- but also very sloppy. They are pieces sticking out that they missed. Basically my dogs look like awkward bobble head toys. When I first saw them and explained how unhappy I was, the groomer refused to even come out and talk to me. It wasn't until I threatened non-payment that made her come out. (Yes, I paid them 100% in the end- and that is clearly the last penny they will ever get from me.) Once the groomer finally came out to talk to me, she refused to listen. She even removed her face mask- and when I asked her to put it back on, she started screaming obscenities at me. I'm not a vulgar person (like this lady was), and I certainly don't curse - so it was pretty disgusting behavior for her to tell me "f*ck you" and "I'm calling the police" - all because I was unhappy with her grooming job. read more

If you are looking for a positive customer service experience for both you and your dog(s), this is NOT the place. The owner has zero customer service skills, nor does she know how to talk to her narrowing customer base. Here is a synopsis of my disappointing experience. I brought my dog(s) to In the Doghouse at 3:00 pm (they opened at 2:30 pm). I called at 5:30 to check on them, only to be told that they are "last in the queue" for the day and have not yet been started. Why? Because they are bigger dogs with more hair and they take longer (for context, I have 2 golden retrievers). So, my dogs have been crated for several hours now, waiting for the groomer to attend to them. Really? Why not let my dogs remain home until you're ready to groom them? The lack of awareness/care for my dogs' well-being was clear, and the lack of disclosure was unethical. I mean, imagine going to the hairdresser and waiting 4+ hours (in a cage, to boot!) for a lackluster service. Finally, AFTER 4.5 HOURS, I received a call at 7:25 pm with the staff advising me that my dogs will be ready for pick up in 20 minutes. When I picked them up, they were shaking like leaves. I am a dog owner for over 20 years, and have NEVER had such a horrible experience!! NEVER, EVER AGAIN!! Maybe, In the Doghouse should give a paying customer an appointment time, rather than keeping the dogs' caged. My experience was entirely unacceptable. I understand wanting to grab the business, but this is not the way. FULL DISCLOSURE IS NEEDED. My advice: If you're going to make the dogs wait that long to be attended to, let the owners know and THEY can make an educated decision on how they would like to proceed. read more

Do not call here if you have a Pit Bull or respect the breed. I was extremely upset when I called and got denied bringing my dog just because she is a pit mix. My family has brought their dogs there for 15+ years. I was so excited to book my dog an appointment being that I knew and trusted them. Anyone who knows my dog knows she a sweetheart. I am in utter shock that a business for dogs would deny a dog just because of their breed. Anyone who truly knows dogs knows it is the dog it is not the breed... Any dog can act in a certain manner. This place does not even deserve 1 star! The owner especially has no sense of customer service and yells at customers. This has happened to me before with them but last week was the last straw. I brought my dog in to be groomed in the morning at the time I was told to be there which was 10 am. By the afternoon I still had not heard from them and had a very important dr appointment with my son at 3 pm. At around 245 pm they called and said I needed to pick up the dog at 315pm. I told them I was on my way to Red Bank for a dr appointment for my son and would it be okay if I picked up my dog on my way home, which would be around 4pm. Their website showed they were open til 5 pm on that day so I did not think it would be a problem. I was nastily admonished by the groomer who said she wanted to leave early and did not want to have to wait for me. She stressed me out to the point that I proceeded to get my husband off of a work conference call so he could leave work to go get the dog which was a huge inconvenience for him! When I called them back to tell them he was coming I told them that he may not have the right amount of cash on him to pay (they only take cash or check) but I would run the money by the following day. At that point the owner got on and said if we didn't pay the fee she would not give me my dog and that if my husband tried to take the dog without paying the full amount, she would call the police! I could not believe what I was hearing, basically that they were going to hold my dog hostage until they got paid. She then said that she would send my dog to "the pound" if we did not pay! I was in complete disbelief of how this woman and her staff would treat a customer that has been coming to them for years and has always paid for her dog! Luckily my husband did have enough cash on him to get our dog back. I guess it was more important to her that her staff get to leave early that day despite their posted internet hours. Also the fact that my dog sat their since 10am and wasn't being worked on until 230-245 in the afternoon is outrageous in itself! They obviously don't care about losing customers and would rather run a part time business since they don't have enough customers to fill up their hours. Do not bring your dogs here! This is not a sports bar, as much as a battle against time and chaos. We went there for an early meal during an off-weekend (no huge sports events), where there were only a few other patrons. This was not a case of they were overwhelmed by a large crowd. To the contrary, they were overwhelmed by a few scattered people. It turns out, we too were underwhelmed by this place. When the waiter finally arrived, we were informed that they did not have any chicken dishes or steak dishes. At all. They also only had one Doctor Pepper can, and no juices. A fabulous beginning! I ordered a burger with pastrami, brisket, and bourbon sauce. My food was the first to arrive and had the smallest add ons to the burger. I literally had to search for the additions thinking "I guess that must be a piece of brisket" Not worth the expense, even if kosher. Technically accurate, but utterly woeful in impression. My wife ordered an appetizer and salad. They had only one dressing, an overly sweet Caesar dressing, without any other options. The appetizer arrived at the end of ou meal (see below). The waiter was slow, unenthusiastic, and did not appear to care about our experience there. She often walked away in the middle of a customer speaking with her. Every order seemed like a personal imposition for her. She did not smile once, and often seemed to be uninterested, if not annoyed at being there. We were not being difficult at all. She just may not be suited for interaction with patrons. The rest of the meals came out with no attempted coordination of timing. My wife's appetizer (brisket egg rolls) arrived far after all of our meals (most of us had already finished), and after a wrong order of "dirty fries" which we did not order, so the waiter took away and ate by herself in the corner. At one point the person behind the bar, taking telephone orders, yelled out loud (so the entire restaurant could hear him) about a customer, "If she calls back to complain again, I'm going to end her!" I assume by serving her some of the food. The Men's bathroom looks like post-apocalyptic decor, untidy, unclean, and literally with wires and cables hanging down from the ceiling into the stall. The ceiling fan in the bathroom sounds like a loud dentists' drill, and there was toilet paper strewn about. Given the early hour we were there, it was clear management simply does not care. Similar care was taken in the main dining area, where no effort was made to cover the warehousing of furniture. If you have the choice or ability, please consider a different kosher establishment. If you own or manage the Doghouse, please think about returning to how you used to run this place years ago. DO NOT GO HERE UNTIL THEY GET MUCH MUCH BETTER. Please. read more

Woman on the phone taking the appointment sounded professional and kind, but on the day of appointment the woman at the front desk was rude and VERY visibly uncomfortable with dogs, wincing and rolling her eyes every time my excited dog (still a puppy, though a big dog) jumped up or moved around quickly. Also rude when asking "what kind of haircut do you want?" Again rolling her eyes when I asked what the options were. Left right then. Did not want to entrust my two dogs to someone SO visibility uncomfortable and irritable being around dogs. A shame she is the business's first impression. read more

This Is my first time ever writing a review. The worst experience I have ever had. The rudest, most disrespectful, heartless people I have ever dealt with . I owed businesses and can not believe this one is still open. The only reason they are still open is simply the convenience of the location and desperate need of groomers. The owner/manager is a disgrace. I could look past the atmosphere if I was dealing with nice people. The last time I picked up my dog they brought did not bring out my dog. The dog they brought out belonged to another owner who had instructed them not to cut her dog short- it was shaved down. I have no idea how people can carry on in such a terrible way. If I could leave zero stars I would. The owner was so nasty and down right rude to my Mother on the phone today. We've been taking our dog there for 8yrs and never had an issue. My mother called to make an appointment for our Golden Retriever to which she was told no and that they won't be grooming our dog anymore and that her groomers don't want to groom her. In a nasty manner might add. Now all of the sudden your groomers (which includes you) don't want to groom my dog bc, and I quote, "she's old and has a leg problem and doesn't sit well and she's a big dog." Then was told, "Well we called back in Sept and you're just getting back to us now?!" My mother went on to explain that she has been dealing with a lot in the past month with her mother being sick and in and out of the hospital and the response was, "Yea well we all have busy lives." So I don't know who pissed in your cheerios this morning, but you are anything BUT professional. We will not be recommending your business to anyone. And the fact that you're so rude and had my Mother in tears is unacceptable. And feel free to laugh at this review like you do to all the other ones. I have been having my dog groomed here for a few years and recently stopped after their prices increased. I went back after a terrible experience at another groomer only to have a terrible experience here. My dogs haircut was very choppy and uneven and she was left with a bald patch under her ear. When I questioned this I was told they didn't notice anything and that it looked as if I had given her a bad haircut myself prior to bringing her which I never had. ANOTHER LOST CUSTOMER by Alana I brought my dog here for a haircut. After keeping my dog for 5 hours and washing her hair, they decided they would not cut her hair because she had a runny nose! I said, "Well, if you were so worried about her infecting the others, why didn't you call earlier, don't you think it is a little late to worry about that now". They didn't have any good answer except to say that my dog was sneezing. After wasting my entire day, they insisted on me paying for a wash that they did, EVEN THOUGH THIS IS NOT THE SERVICE I HAD ASKED FOR!!! The most horrible and despicable people I have ever met or done business with. We have a beautiful Goldendoodle. We had to be one of their best customers bringing our girl in every two weeks without failure and always leaving at least a 20% tip. Three weeks ago she was diagnosed with bone cancer requiring a leg amputation. We called and told them what had happened. They never called once to inquire how she was doing. Recently we called and said she needed grooming badly but that it would be difficult for our "Doodle" to stand on 3 legs for a long period to be groomed and offered to come in and hold her. In so many words we were told "no way." They hung up and never called back. Anybody this heartless doesn't deserve to be trusted with a much loved pet who is part of your family. read more

This place is the absolute worst but they have a monopoly because the only other place is Purr N Pooch, which is a million times better but you just can't get an appointment. You can get an appointment here same day, and they don't ask for vaccination papers or shot records. The customer service is truly horrific. They do not do a good job with bathing or cutting. They didn't even bother to clean my maltese's eye area, I had to do it myself when I got home. Last month they gave us a goody bag with a card that said they were moving to Belmar. My husband drove all the way out to the location and it was under construction. He drove all the way back to the old place and they didn't even apologize.
