Went for first time w/older doggie. We were nervous as has only been groomed by same person for 13 yrs. We had Emmarie & she was great; very nice, calm, did a thorough job & Sophie was fine w/whole experience. Only reason didn't give a 5 star is she was cut shorter than I expected given in the winter. I would suggest they come up w/some base pics for use in discussion of length. The staff is great at this store. I will definitely go back. read more

They cancelled my appointment 15 minutes before service time right before a holiday. Management has no process in place to address such matters. If they are this poorly run and disorganized its probably not a safe place for your dog. Go somewhere else. read more

They could lighten up a bit, how about be around customers when they need help? At the pet grooming salon was like an institution, with rules and plenty of NO! I bet their favorite words are 'No Can't Do'. The grooming was good though, my doggie looked pretty cute and smelled good...but whoever answer the phone today was one of those 'No Can't Do' person. UPDATES: Went to a different location in Long Branch NJ, due to this location 'Asbury Park NJ' being overbooked, they did an awful job, my dogs looked as if they got 1 wash and one of my dogs got an eye rash (probably from tools not being sanitized). Also the haircut was lame and they didn't trim the tail, I hated how they cut it. I distinctively described how I wanted it, obviously they didn't listen, I also said to make them look cute, but instead what they end up looking like runaway dogs that haven't got a bath and a haircut in a while... Duh!!!! It was a sloppy/ half job. I wish I didn't give them 20% tip, I regret it now. I never go back to Long branch NJ location again! Also when I went to pay at the cash register, the young lady was very abusing, rude and nasty .. You pay top dollars and they treat you like garbage...it doesn't take much to be civil..what a joke! read more

I think the employees here are all really nice. They keep everything I need stocked, easy to find, and neat. They help me with any issues I have with price, coupons, or returns with a smile. The way this locations cares for Bettas is inhumane. I, personally, have pulled three deceased fish off the shelf, as a shopper, and DELIVERED them to the counter to alert them. Like belly up, shock yellow water amid otherwise clear cups, rigor that takes days, easy to see yet they are still on the shelf amid the sea of cups. Who is caring for these fish? Not every Petsmart location is like this, it is Ocean store specific and has been going on for a year. The fish develop diseases that are a direct result of the water quality this location provides for the . The lack of upkeep also shows from how emaciated and sick the fish are, a direct result of being underfed and observably neglected. That all is bad enough IMO. But when these fish die from the neglect, the workers can't even be bothered to remove the evidence from the overstocked, dusty shelf. Why leave the dead shell of a once alive creature on display for customers and their children to encounter as part of their pet shopping experience? Because they don't want to deal with these fish. Last time, the guy was at the desk on his smart phone when I approached with the fish. My son is 13 and autistic and is all about fish. He won't go in to this store without 'checking' on the bettas, and bringing his observations to the workers. We have taken to buying the sickest ones, caring for them and then donating them to local senior communities and DV shelters. This is where to go you can save a life, but sadly the Petsmart brand makes betta purchase here appear casual. I treat this location as a betta rescue opportunity, going elsewhere for heathy fish purchases. I've bought bettas solely to save them bc they are dying of easily preventable and easily treatable common conditions brought on by sheer neglect. But it's getting worse over time I have noticed. I just rescued one that I immediately took for evaluation bc I could tell he was unique. He was obviously gravely sick, in yellow water sideways- but still alive. Barely. He had open sores, emaciated to the point of seeing every curve of his skeleton, was missing scales and could not swim. He was diagnosed with extensive fin rot, pop eye, swim bladder disease, septicemia, ick AND velvet! Any of these on their own can deteriorate the fish to death if ignored, but are very treatable (and very preventable!) but all together says something about the place. And he was still on the shelf! Most scary, there were at least DOUBLE the usual stock. Most having naked eye observable disease. Cups upon cups, three deep! Its disturbing and it was time to speak up here. They have failed to address the concerns when brought to their attention repeatedly. It's been a week, and I'm glad to report he is extremely improved, but by no means out of the woods yet. I'm hopeful. He already has an adoptive friend of mine if he makes it. The vet confirmed him as to a juvenile crown tail albino male, one of the most rare finds. I suspect even if they knew as much (which they didn't since he was inappropriately labeled for sale as a *half moon* male) they still wouldn't have cared for him any better. It's troubling and most folks but bettas for their 'easy' and 'low maintenance' care. That can be true, *of healthy Betta fish*. Sick bettas, however, are a time and financial commitment in order to return to them to the level of health needed to enjoy those benefits of their ownership, and give the fish themselves some sort of quality of life beyond a few months. It's unfair for unsuspecting customers and these fish. Buyer beware. Until they improve their long standing practices, or alternately get out of the betta business at this location, only experienced and willing owners willing to buy these pets as a RESCUE and incur the aquatic vet bills and medicine required, should shop here for their new pet betta. read more

PetSmart - After a week of treatment on the first round of diseases. We are hopeful! - Pet Training Near Me - Ocean, New Jersey

This relates to their on-site grooming service. Very disappointing. Petsmart's web site lists several things that are included in the basic bath & brush service: Oxygen-infused bath with shampoo & blow dry 15-minute brushing Nail trim Ear cleaning, hair removal & flushing (if needed) Scissoring feet & pad shaving Sanitary trim Anal gland cleaning We dropped him off and they asked if we'd like the nails cut, or if we'd like them ground down for an additional fee. We chose the nail cutting. When we got him back, he looked good. We asked if they did the anal gland thing... groomer stated, "no, you have to ask for that in advance." Dog was clamoring to leave, so we paid and left. Upon closer inspection in good light at home, we found that his ears clearly hadn't been cleaned, the scissoring feet & pad shaving hadn't been done, nor had the sanitary trim been done. That means they performed 3/7 of the services, lower than 50%. I called on the next business day to ask what went wrong, and if I had to specifically list what I wanted done out of what was listed on the service description. The person answering the call went back to the grooming salon and figured out who had done our service. That person wasn't in, so there was no way of telling what happened, He said I could bring the dog back to get the missing services performed, but I declined. as we had already taken care of the feet & pads & ears ourselves when we found Petsmart missed it. The rest will need to wait until we go to a different groomer next time he needs it. I can only suggest that when you make the appointment, you review what's included, and re-state what you expect when you drop your mutt off. Then review all the points when you pick up the dog and have the bill adjusted accordingly. In their defense, they offered to fix it; I'd prefer they do it right the first time. read more

My dog Chance got neutered yesterday and he came home with the cone and as most dogs he hated it! So i immediately call PetSmart in Ocean Township to see if they had a onesie . The girl who answered the phone was super nice and had put the item up front for me. When i walked into the store i received a warm welcome for a young man at the register (even though he was checking someone out, he turned around and acknowledged me and said welcome). I had further questions where an employee answered all my questions and even showed me how to use this special onesie for my dog. I was very surprised how NICE everyone was. I bought all new living room furniture so I also bought whisker city scratch prevention tape. It stated on the package "Medical grade adhesive, won't harm fabrics". I removed it after a week like the package stated and but it took the top layer off the corduroy, leaving a rip and a different color stripe. Neither PetSmart nor whisker city seem to care. I was asked to return the product to Petsmart so they could examine it. Now, if I were to do that I would have no proof that it happened, would I? I explained that it is only very noticeable on the one piece, which cost $500. They offered me a $100 gift card for Petsmart but apparently they didn't send that, either. They claim that the fine print states to check it an inconspicuous area. That being said, it should not state in large print that it won't harm fabrics! I purchased a cinnamon green cheek conure from the Ocean NJ store. After I took the bird home and went through the paperwork, the veterinarian certificate and vaccinations records were missing. Additionally, the papers stated it was a yellow sider green cheek conure. They refused to give me the veterinarian certification stating the bird was disease free and corporate has refused to contact me. im assuming they like customers to file law suits in order to receive the appropriate documentation. They told me to just return the bird after i have loved this bird for a week! Definitely should not be in the pet business! read more

My dog goes here for grooming, toys, food, and all her other needs. I never had a problem here with anything. I have bought bowls and kongs and all other kinds of stuff and continue to shop there frequently. The groomers are awesome they treat my dog like their own and give excellent haircuts. They also check the dog for ticks and give special attention for any medical needs. read more

I have been taking My Carly to the PetSmart in Ocean for a few years now and the pet stylists there have been nothing but kind and loving towards her. she is always skittish when she gets there but they always talk gently to her before she goes in for her bath. I have used PetSmart for several years for my dog's needs but I am getting annoyed by their indifferent check out people. Yesterday, as I was purchasing a large bag of dog food, the man who took care of my purchase spent the whole time talking on his headset to someone who I assume was another employee, gossiping. For this type of service, they need to install self checkout so I don't have to be subjected to this. This is just one incident in the usual crappy service at the register. read more

I love this location! The staff are wonderful and Danielle always makes sure my Jameson looks good after his bath. Since adopting him from Eleventh Hour Rescue in the Mt Olive store I have been to this location almost every day for shopping grooming vet and training. I've spent close to $1000 here in less than 3 weeks. For that they get 5 stars. Now to the one star portion of my review- unfortunately due to PetSmart's callous decision to evict EHR from Mt Olive store (and they even tried to weasel out of the 30 day notice required by the lease agreement) I will not be shopping at any location again. Worst experience I have ever had. They sold us a hamster and it died a week later probably from a disease he already came with from the horrible treatment he recited from Pet Smart. Prices are great here, way better than other pet stores I have been to. The grooming department is ok but i prefer to go to another groomer because on the occasions that I have went to get my poodle groomed at Petsmart they never groom him the way I ask with pom poms around his ankles and a round face. I only use this groomer to grind his nails down because its cheaper than most places. All in all its a good pet store. read more
