I visited "in the pink "because it came highly recommended from a friend. I arrived with a few of my family members. I had an appointment but the first question the sales person said was who's the patient? Since I had an appointment she should have known my name and used it. I guess that put me on edge from the beginning. As I selected a few, she placed the wigs on my head didn't comb or fix them basically stuck them on my head turned me toward the mirror ..and each looked terrible. It was my first time trying on wigs, so it was a little unsettling to begin with. I also thought the prices for synthetic hair was rather high. As we were leaving, she said sarcastically ...well good luck! Ive worked in retail for many years of my life and how I was treated was just not right. Assuming most people that come to you are undergoing chemo have lost their hair or are about to. A little empathy goes a long way. Please do better! read more

I had been going to In The Pink is Sarasota, Fl. The store was closed so I called the Jacksonville store. They returned my call the next day. I explained what I had gotten before and they still were able to get some of the same bras and 3 others that were recommended since the ones I wanted weren't available. The prosthetic form inserts were perfect. It took them a while to get the items and then they even shipped them to me. As always I'm more than happy with their service. I walked into the nonprofit hoping to make a donation, but they turned away free ensure, nepro, and Glucerna shakes. The staff member or owner had a terrible attitude. After my 12-hour shift at the hospital with patients. Nothing registered until I recounted the story to my partner, realizing the hostility. Luckily, Beam Thrift next door gladly accepted the shakes for a volunteer's brother battling cancer. Now, I'm convinced the place is just a hostile environment. I did see clothes inside. Have had two close family members deal with breast cancer issues and know the importance of organizations that provide accurate information and compassionate support. I witnessed my 90-year-old mother be treated rudely, disrespectfully, and receive inaccurate information. Mission extremely important, customer service severely lacking. read more

As others have said, this place is amazing. When you get that word, you know your life is about to change. I've read that the loss of hair can be the most devastating part of dealing with cancer treatment. That was true in our case as we faced treatment. The way the ladies at In the Pink put us at ease and helped us with just the right wig and related items is so appreciated. And then there was the conversation. You see, they've been through it too. We hadn't started treatment yet, were concerned, and yes, a little scared...but they made us feel a lot better about it. Personal stories of recent treatment was just what we needed. Not a lot of detail, just reassurance. Finally, check your health insurance. They submitted to ours and we got some coverage. read more

I was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma triple negative breast cancer last year. After losing my hair to chemo, I started looking for a wig. I found out that many insurance companies will cover at least part of the cost for a wig, which is known as a "cranial prosthesis" in medical terms. My oncologist wrote me a prescription. The only place I could find locally who accepted insurance for wigs was In the Pink. Despite some negative reviews online, i decided to give it a shot. Among some of the reviews w/odd replies from the owner was when a person mentioned clothes at In the Pink, and the owner replied that they don't sell clothes there, that the person must be talking about a different place...well I've been inside the business, and yes, they do sell clothes. Just another thing I don't understand here. I called In the Pink and told them what my insurance company was (because I didn't see it in the list of accepted insurance companies on In the Pink's website). I was told that yes, they do accept my insurance. Great! I made an appointment to get fitted for a wig. I called back a few days later to confirm and when I did, I was told that no, they do not accept my insurance. But that In the Pink would cover up to $250 of the cost. And I would have to pay for any additional cost out of pocket. So of course I was disappointed and surprised since I had been told my insurance was accepted. But happy that they agreed to help cover the cost. Once I arrived for my appointment, I was promptly taken back to a couple of rooms where wigs were displayed on the walls. I looked around and I didn't see any wigs the length I wanted. The person helping me said they don't carry longer wigs because most women complain they are too hot. So my choices were limited. When I found a wig that I thought might work (even though it was too short for me, really), I tried on the sample wig. It was not a color I wanted, so the employee (maybe a volunteer. I'm not sure) showed me the color choices, of which there were quite a few. I wanted the same color as my own hair, but this person kept insisting that there were really only 2 colors that would look good on me. I almost felt like maybe these 2 colors were being pushed on me because maybe the other colors weren't available for some reason. It was strange. But the person assisting me assured me that one of these 2 colors would look best on me. Reluctantly, I agreed to one of those 2 colors. Looking back now, I think I would've just walked out at that point, but hindsight is 20/20, right? When all was said & done, I had to pay for the wig stand and care kit myself, which totaled @ or a little under $150. It may have been $125 plus tax. In any event, it seemed like a lot to me. But I was getting a free wig, right? One day a couple of weeks later, I started getting phone calls from a number I did not recognize. I usually don't answer numbers i don't know. Then I started getting repeated calls from the same number ...multiple calls back to back...very odd. I would have to check my phone history to be exact, but I'd say there were 12 phone calls in a 10 minute time period. With no voice mail message. Finally someone calling from that number left a voicemail saying my wig had arrived at In the Pink. Why on earth would someone call so many times like that? I went to In the Pink to pick up my wig. When I tried it on, the lady helping me assured me it looked wonderful. I wasn't so sure. Once i got home, my sons agreed with me that it was definitely the wrong style and color for me. So I was stuck with a wig I didn't like and which was not returnable. If you're reading this, you might think, well why did she choose that wig if she didnt like it? All I can say is, cancer is a devastating diagnosis and chemotherapy is the worst thing I've ever experienced. I was so worn down physically and mentally that I did not resist the In the Pink person when she said that wig and color looked so good on me. I have never had cancer before and I have never bought a wig. So I relied on these people because this is what they supposedly do, is help women with cancer. The entire experience from beginning to end was very strange. This is my opinion of my experience. I hope that others have a more positive experience. In the end, I donated my unworn wig to The Womens Center where I know it will help someone else and will look fabulous on that person! read more

I have read the reviews. Here are my thoughts. First of all, the place does not look like a medical facility. It looks homey and pretty. But it is a medical facility and for those who just wanted to walk in without an appt., think about what your dentist would do if you just dropped in. Next, masks. Whether you personally believe in them or not, many of the patients who go there are on chemotherapy or are otherwise immune challenged. So, for those who don't believe masks work, tell your surgeon not to wear a mask while operating on you and see what happens. I am a nurse practitioner and know that masks do work. Lastly, I must say that Anne was fantastic and professional. She fitted me well and addressed my concerns. Ask yourselves, who are so critical of this place, why the women who work there do so, when they could work anywhere else. They are dedicated to helping women who need them, like ME. In the Pink is a boutique for women living with cancer. It is a welcome store, not only for the amenities it offers those fighting and surviving this disease, but also for the support it gives. I have not battled cancer, but know many who have and the dignity this little place provides makes it A+ in my book. The gift shop section is wonderful and has many a cute items that don't necessarily deal with cancer, but things that any woman would want to pamper herself with. They have fitting rooms that are secluded and private. A small, 2 seat, salon taylored to the needs of women struggling with hair loss and regrowth. They carry wigs for this as well. They also have the "Save the TaTa's" shirts and bumper stickers, which I love. But I found other T-shirts in here that are lighthearted and memorable at the same time! My 2 personal favorites were "Save 2nd Base" and "Save a life, fondle your wife"! I don't know that it can be said better than that. read more
