My boyfriend and I joined the boom of pandemic puppies and needed help getting him to be a kind citizen of society. We've done prior research - reached out to Nancy and a few other trainers to get their take on what training methods they use. First off, Nancy was very responsive to our email. She gave us a ton of information and we love her treat-based method as we're against using e-collars and other more drastic forms of gaining a dog's obedience so... we signed up. Our first few classes started via Zoom due to SIP, but each class was as knowledgeable and informational as the next. While puppy classes may seem pricey, Nancy packs so much information into a handbook (you're able to print and keep as a constant resource) and homework that you will definitely get your money's worth. It's been a couple months and Frida graduated Doggy Prep (Dog 2). After going through three class sets with Nancy, I feel I can write an overall review and what exactly was personally beneficial to myself. I would say the first consultation was a lifesaver. It is quite pricey, but it seems on par among R+ trainers. It took away all the anxiety of becoming a puppy owner. It allowed me to be prepared. I asked her 1000+ questions during the consult and she had an answer to every single one. The consult is what pulled me into her program. She's super knowledgeable and keeps up to date with the science in the field. Since dog training isn't a regulated field, it's difficult to find a trainer who is continuously learning new methods. Nancy does just that. Puppy Preschool - I think, was my favorite class. Nancy didn't focus on obedience, but focused on behavior, fears/aggression, bite inhibition, socialization. Basically topics so that we set a good foundation for our pups. A bonus about this class is that you get access to set up play dates with other students at the school. Nancy will also make recommendations and will even monitor some of these dates (through Zoom) at no extra cost. Nancy also gives email support, even if you graduated from her class. She provides thoughtful and specific responses. Dog 1 - Doggy ABC's - It was so much fun to have some of the pups we knew from preschool in our class. It really is a community on its own and you get back what you put into it. This class was all basic obedience. We were able to use most of it to snag some AKC home titles afterwards. Since this is reward-based training, just keep in mind there are lots of treats given during the whole process. We learned how to properly teach basic commands. I think this was easier for my pup as I tried not to teach her anything ahead of what Nancy was going over. It's more difficult to fix a behavior than to teach you pup a new one. So I put my trust into Nancy during the whole process. The pace of this class was great. Dog 2 - Doggy Prep - This class was SUPER difficult and was so fast-paced. Nevertheless, it's still a fun class. There's lots of interactions between the other classmates and dogs. What made this class difficult was the amount of activities she assigned daily and the amount of homework. It's a big jump going from Dog 1 to Dog 2. What would have made this class easier is if Dog 1 and Dog 2 were split more evenly. Currently, Frida is taking a much needed break to just be a dog. We will revisit the Dog 2 stuff again in the coming weeks. I want her to perfect everything before moving on. We should be taking Dog 3 sometime this year. The great thing about Nancy is she genuinely cares about the success of your dog. She doesn't train your dog for you, that's not her job. Her job is to teach you how to effectively communicate with your dog. She is the modern-day dog whisperer. When we first signed up for the beginner class for dogs 5 months and older (called "A Dog's Life (Dog 1)"), we weren't really sure what to expect. We adopted a rescue dog and while her behavior wasn't perfect, it was decent, right? That's good enough, right? Nope. I can honestly say that my wife and I and our little girl Chloe all learned so much from Nancy, and taking this class was definitely the right decision. Nancy really knows her stuff, and she shares what she knows with you in a very easy to follow way. Her style of training is all positive reinforcement, which we really appreciate. Some trainers prefer a different approach (e.g., show them who the alpha is and correct missteps as a pack leader would in the wild). I'm sure that works (it's on TV, after all), but we're much more comfortable with the idea of rewarding our dog for the behavior we want, rather than scolding her if she does something we don't like and hoping she gets the message (AND doesn't learn the wrong lesson entirely). The class sizes are small (there were just 3 other dogs in our class), so all of the parents and dogs can get the attention they need to learn new skills. Plus, after every class you receive an email with your homework assignment for the week, which reinforces what was covered in class plus sometimes expands on it a bit. The homework always has a list of steps for an assignment, plus a link to a YouTube video of the assignment being demonstrated. I bought the yelp deal because after 3 years of having Mackie (the German shepherd), it was time for some formal training. He knows the basic sit, lay, shake... But my problem was my family and I would have to trick him into going into his room when we would go to out or go to bed. Well he's been outsmarting us lately. Shame on us for not properly training him sooner. Nancy started off by getting the low down and gave some pretty amazing advice. One piece of advice was to change the dog food. My parents had been feeding Mackie...dare I say it... PEDIGREE for years (it's cheap at costco). She told us, "finish off what u have, but change it to a brand that's more natural with meat as it's first ingredient". Apparently, pedigree is full of CRAP that can lead to hyperactivity. Oh yeah and we were overfeeding him. Now couple that with the fact that everyone is too busy to walk him regularly.... Well, that just makes things worse. So, I left the house to buy new dog food immediately. It's been 24hours and I feel like I have a totally different dog. He's less hyper and more apt to listen. Nancy showed me how to re-crate train Mackie. While he wasn't having it while she was there, he eventually got more comfortable with it. Today, he doesn't mind going in his crate. She taught me how to walk my 80 pounder without a prong collar. So far, it's been quite helpful and I'm sure, better for him. Pay attention, because there is so much goodness here. We adopted a tiny puppy named Pokey in February 2017. He was just 8 weeks old, 9 pounds, and about as silly as a puppy can be. We did all of the homework assignments, and after 4 weeks, we still had an unruly, disobedient pup. Then, magically, during week five, our wild puppy became respectful of other dogs and humans. He started being more obedient and and easier to train. Our hard work paid off! We've now been working with Nancy for over a year, and she's helped us through all stages of puppyhood. I recently got a puppy and wanted to take her to a bunch of puppy socials so she can interact with as many puppies at a young age to build up her socialization skills. I had called around and petfood express on bascom said they have them throughout the week with different trainers. I called on Monday and they said they there was a social at 5:15 with Nancy. I've been to several puppy socials before so I knew what to expect and bring and have never had any issues with being allowed in. When I showed Nancy proof of vaccines she didn't allow my puppy in because she didn't have the influenza vaccine. Walked away upset, frustrated, and mostly mad because this was the first puppy social I had an issue with. I called my vet explaining the situation and that I was turned down from puppy social for not having the influenza vaccine. The doctor said "I will give no more than 3 vaccines at a time and since influenza is not a core vaccine, I was going to wait until she was older. Especially since the more vaccines you give, the higher the chance of them getting a reaction. Since they're tiny and their immune systems are still developing, we want to give the core vaccines first then move on to the elective ones." This explanation makes sense. This isn't my first rodeo with dogs. I have a 1.5 year old dog who we took to puppy socials when she was a puppy and like most places, she didn't need the influenza to get in. My older dog has been amazing with other dogs because I took her to puppy socials and it made me realize the importance of giving your pup as many interactions they can get. So as a trainer, Nancy should have known that ALL puppies have developing immune systems and it's safe for them to be in the same vicinity. Nancy couldn't even run a proper puppy social, I could only imagine the kind of training session she would give. read more

As others have said, Nancy knows a lot about dog training and is clear in her instructions. I benefited from some of the tips she has offered during the class. However, Nancy is not a good teacher because she is not able to hide her contempt for students whom she does not like. She took a disliking to me from the beginning and did nothing to hide it. I overlooked her rude behavior for the first few sessions, but finally had to discontinue attending the class because of it. I was supposed to be out of town for one of the weeks of the class and let Nancy know. I didn't end up going out of town and showed up for the class. Nancy told me that class was cancelled, but she did this as other members of the class (and a new person) were actually coming into the room! Nancy also kept insisting, on the final night that I attended, that my dog was afraid of being touched by me, just because my pup was not enjoying being grabbed by the collar when playtime was over. She told me I needed to give the dog treats "every time I touched her." That just does not make any sense! I sleep with my dog, she sits in my lap, and cuddles up against me most of the time. If I gave her treats each time I touched her, she'd be very sick! read more

It's October 2016 and my family of five falls in love with an energetic 8 week old rescue puppy, I guess I'm blinded by love cause I can't see clearly and we adopt this bundle of joy and energy. Soo it's been several weeks since I got this yelp deal. I have to say I am more than happy about my outcome.just 1 session and my baby is a new pooch! My baby is a recent rescue, so her personality is new to me. Our walks have been me being pulled down the street and frustrated. After 1 session with nancy and this is no longer the case. My walks are soo much more delightful now! She still has her moments but nancy taught me some really great tools to keep the situation from going bad to worse. Hard pullers are sorta frustrating to train, but over time my baby has improved soo much . whenever we walk past her trigger I.e. a jogger, a walker, even another dog; my babys reaction used to be to lunge and pull.now she turns and looks at me for direction! Wow! Nancy is absolutely wonderful and soo patient, and full of knowledge. She is very thorough and answered all of my questions and concerns. She has been very helpful through emails and what nots if I have concerns about my training and very informative. This is a plus. Most people take your money and you're on your own. I can not believe how well my baby has been doing. She still has some issues in other areas (like recall, off and drop it) and I will definitely be saving my $$ for future services. Nancy is great! I've taken my dog to several puppy play group and puppy preschool sessions, and we've gone through Dog 1 and Dog 2. When I got Hedwig, I felt that it was very important to find a trainer who uses research-based training methods instead of the "alpha" and "pack mentality" style training that is popular but not recommended. I felt comfortable with Nancy right away, because her training methods are based on positive reinforcement, which is what all of the veterinary behavior specialists recommend. Through all of our classes, it has been amazing to see the way that her training programs use simple steps to successfully develop complex behaviors - and how much fun my dog seems to have during the process! There are plenty of books, websites, and youtube videos that can help you do a lot of the same training at home, but it was SO valuable to have Nancy show us what to do during class, and provide individualized recommendations for troubleshooting every step of the way. It has also been so helpful to have her support for all of the general training and behavior questions that have popped up. THE BEST! Nancy is a class of her own! Me and my husband did thorough research in finding a dog trainer for our 8 week old Golden retriever puppy and found Nancy on the leaflet, the Adobe animal hospital gave us and contacted her.  We got an immediate response from Nancy. And thankfully she had a spot for Scotch at the Puppy Preschool. SO one thing me and my husband really loved was she had only 4-5 dogs at the class because of which all of us got a lot of her attention and each and every dog was corrected personally by Nancy if he or she did something wrong. Even after class or if we ever had concerns regarding anything, she would immediately cater to our problems thru emails or would talk about it when we met at the class. Nancy is "the best" dog trainer, like a dog whisperer with Nancy, our 8 week old Golden Retriever Scotch went from being a crazy puppy to a well disciplined puppy. We had a few things that got us worried like play biting, pulling the leash while walking but she told us a remedy for everything. Nancy's style of working with the dog and at the same time training us to work with the dog showed results within two or three weeks of training. The focus of Nancy's approach was to patiently work with the dog & us and was all about positive reinforcement. Nancy is very committed, personable, patient, professional and is very proficient with training dogs.  If I had more than 5 stars I would absolutely give her 100/100.  We are looking forward to attending the next class called the Doggy ABC and watch Scotch grow into a responsible citizen, And with Nancy having Scotch's back we have no doubt about Scotch going all the way through and passing the Canine good citizen title. We started working with Nancy to help guide us with our leash-reactive dog. We had worked with other trainers before, and we felt Nancy was able to help us utilize our existing skills while identifying areas to develop. Nancy is very approachable, easy to communicate with, and totally understanding of pet and human relationships (like when we slacked on our homework ;). We really feel like Nancy just "gets it." Really can't say enough about Nancy. We loved her class-her confidence levels and skills with the dogs are impressive and she is extremely patient with doggie parents like us. Nancy is phenomenal trainer and I couldn't be happy with her services and training she had provided for my Frenchie Kobe. When I first met Nancy I was instantly impressed with her professionalism and keen sense of detail. She has a very calm demeanor and bright presence. Kobe was having some issues with separation anxiety and being home by himself. It only took one session with Nancy for Kobe to feel confident to stay home. Nancy showed me methods to make Kobe feel strong and comfortable. After the training, I notice Kobe was a different dog and a shift happened. I've been meaning to write a review for some time. Nancy is so, so, so incredible. I adopted a 9 yr old Corgi and he was very nervous and unsure. Aggressive with other dogs and seemed depressed. One session with Nancy and I have a new dog! She taught me how to encourage the best in my Corgi through positive reinforcement and patience. I found In Tune K9's via a Craigslist ad. I checked Yelp and saw some positive feedback for Nancy and decided to give her a call. I am very glad I did. We recently rescued a mostly blind yellow Labrador, Hunter, who has PRA. He is/was very high on energy and very low on manners and discipline. He was getting comfortable enough in our house that he was starting to counter surf (I put a funny video of that on youtube btw) and my poor wife was starting to go crazy. Due to his very limited vision I was very nervous about taking him to group lessons in a 'school' environment (plus he would never be able to pay attention with all the other dogs around). I needed a trainer that could come to us, and do the training sessions during the daytime as that is when Hunter's vision is best. Nancy was very helpful on the phone, hearing my needs and desires and she agreed to come meet Hunter, even though she hadn't worked with a blind/near blind dog before. The evaluation went great and Nancy felt very confident that she could help Hunter (and us!). We signed up for a month of lessons (which are priced very well). We have completed several weeks of training sessions with Nancy. Hunter is showing great progress. Nancy is patient, and only uses positive reinforcement when training. Her knowledge is extensive, and we have not been able to stump her with a question yet. Nancy has not only taught him how to be a better dog, but has taught us how to be better dog owners. We still have plenty of work to do, but I am very glad we met Nancy and hired her to help us with Hunter. My puppy and I went to numerous socials and completed a puppy class with In Tune dog training. I have never had a puppy before and without the classes and socials I would have felt lost and overwhelmed! Nancy knows what is most important to teach your puppy and also does a wonderful job breaking down training into manageable lessons that are effective and easy to replicate at home. The lessons are also great fundamentals that I'm confident will help me tackle any behavior or training problem my dog may have in the future. What's best about Nancy and In Tune dog training is the individualized attention you and your dog receive weekly. Classes are very small (mine only had 3-4 dogs.) An added bonus was the weekly homework assignments and lesson recaps that were sent out.
