This shows their commitment to their animals. When an animal is being put down, the candle is lit. The sign asks for quiet.

I've been here several times and I don't even own a pet! My BFF is a professional breeder/handler/groomer. She is one of those picky dog people and she would not trust anyone else with her animals. She drives about 30 minutes to see Dr. Becker and Dr. Matt. She has been going here for over a decade. The place is usually packed and that's a good sign! They do not treat you like cattle, either. Each vet takes a sincere interest in your pets well being. You never get the sense they are rushed or uninterested. They both have very good bedside manners. You can tell they love animals first and foremost. The receptionists are kind and friendly. They smile and will engage in witty small talk with you. They have always been pleasant. The techs are the same- friendly and helpful. They always take time to acknowledge the animals which I appreciate. I know they deal with a great deal and it must be challenging. They do their jobs well. I've seen all sorts of animals in the waiting room. Dogs and cats all sizes and ages. Gerbils, guinea pigs and even a pet rat. These people all love and trust the staff at this office. Cannot speak highly enough of this group. I am looking forward to the day when I own a dog so I can be a client.

I've learned in all areas of medicine, both K9 & Human, competency is not often the case with so many & for me competency is a PRIORITY above all else! When my most treasured companion is sick or needs care. I need Knowledge, Focus on the situation & skill and ability to resolve a problem accurately the first time! With these skills, compassion is understood & implied, as one would not be able to provide top quality care to your pet without it! Independence Animal Hospital ( in my Opinion ) provides the top Veterinarian care in this entire area of Jackson County. It is based on first come first serve. I was concerned about that at first just because my free time is often limited , I'm impatient and was uncertain of their triage procedure, should I have an emergency. ( No concern required)! My first visit was not a critical situation. However, their impressive & verifiable knowledge, skills and experience , I can tell you, I have no worries should you have an emergency! My first visit, the office was packed! I did have my adult son with me and our family pet ( well baby/pet), so he could hold her while I checked in, communicated with the ladies at the desk, etc. My Bebe girl thinks everyone is a new friend and wants to go see them and sick or not, determined to say hi! If you can have a couple extra hands should you have a social pet like mine, that would probably make you feel less overwhelmed about the process. Also, I'm slightly overprotective & do not want her saying hi to all other pets , annoying their owners and worrying me, she isn't liked by all other breeds! Lol They are a VERY busy practice , why... ? Because people come back, why... ? Because these Vets are beyond amazing! Mainly, because your pet gets well and you feel so grateful & relieved... you return should you need to! I would be very skeptical of an empty practice? I have NEVER waited over 20 mins, received top quality care, learned from the Drs willingness to explain & share their knowledge. The vets visits are very quick! They are NOT lacking in care, thoroughness or listening to your concerns... so experienced this is just second nature for this team! No need to guess or speculate. It is a no frills type clinic. They are there to provide your pet with the best possible veterinarian medicine and not there to goo goo gah gah over our precious angels as we do! They get them & keep them well to give you longer time with them! My moms neighbor had two Schnauzers, one has since passed, but lived a long wonderful life with two hip replacements, etc..! She used these Vets I believe as long as they've been there! She's since moved out of state but I could easily see her flying her pets back to see the Drs here! That's how I decided to bring Bebe to Independence Animal Hospital, as she was VERY knowledgeable about vet medicine, I trusted her opinion & advice! I'm hoping you will too! It's tough to decide! I had another vet in this same area, I paid $$$$ to for two surgeries that through other ( not just these Drs ) but various others, could've possibly been avoided, as I began to suspect after the second surgery and my girls response to it. I avoid speaking negative about some and refer to share the incredible of others! But I'll say this... don't be fooled by a new building ( you're paying for it ), and a payment plan. Payment plans are often designed because the service or product is overpriced to begin with! So happy tails & hope this helped someone!

Telling Dad about the excellent care she just had at Independence Animal Hospital.

Never ever will I take my pets to any other animal hospital. If you want REAL care, this is where you want to go. Even now with COVID issues, Independence Animal Hospital is providing top notch care. They are not only deeply concerned with the well being of your beloved animal, but they have a deep respect for human life. All precautions are taken to ensure health. Theirprices are very fair too. They are THE BEST VETERINARIANS in the Kansas City area.

We had to take our pit bull mix to the emergency vet after she got out of the fenced yard during a…read moresnow storm and was hit by a car. She had some road rash and was obviously very sore and tired. I called around, frankly, to compare prices and get a feel for where we were going to take her to get checked out. There is another clinic in the northland, a local chain, that we've had to use before. I got the feeling, from the telephone call and our previous experience with them, that they were going to try to 'upsell' me treatment and tests that might not necessarily be required. They discussed her needing an ultrasound, sight unseen. Their price for a basic exam was $15 higher than the MU emergency vet, X-rays-if needed- were quoted at twice the price. MU's reviews were higher and their thoughts on the situation sounded reasonable, so we went to the MU clinic. To say we were not disappointed is an understatement. The staff was friendly, attentive and understanding. Dr. Fry did a thorough physical exam, assessing her joints for range of motion and smooth movement, the level of pain she felt with movement, the color of her gums and the capillary refill rate, palpated her abdominal organs, checked her temperature, and more. He watched her walk. He was very soothing and gentle with her. He said he didn't really think any X-rays or other tests were necessary based on his findings. He gave us antibiotics for her flesh wounds, didn't recommend putting her through cleaning them as it would be painful and unnecessary because they were already scabbed over. He even discussed what pain meds we already had at home and said that they would work just fine, which saved us some money. They provided appropriate, conservative, and loving care, advised us to follow up with our regular vet in a week or so and to bring her back to them if she seemed to feel worse at all. Before we even walked into their competitor's practice, I knew I would be looking at a $500+ bill there. Exam and medicine at the MU clinic was $124 Comparing the cost and quality of care we received at their competitor in the past with the care we received tonight, there is no doubt where we will go if we have another emergency arise.

We had just moved to the area from Tacoma, WA and had no ER or veterinary service outside Fort Leavenworth, KS. We still received over the phone guidance without being regular customers. Woodrow continued to get sicker throughout the evening and we brought him in for diagnosis and treatment around 10pm on Friday night. Dr. Gants and team quickly evaluated and treated Woodrow for HGE. We have one animal that had an ear infection and after taking her back 4 times in 4 weeks they just kept giving the exact same medication that did nothing to address the issue. Finally took her to another clinic, where they actually swabbed the ear to see what kind of infection they were dealing with, and they issued the appropriate medication. We have another animal getting up in years, took her several times due to arthritis pain and mobility issues. Had to keep asking for meds and what we were given was inappropriate and the wrong dosage for her size. Decided to take her to somewhere that doesn't think that "well, she's old" is a treatment plan. The new vet immediately gave her a shot to help with the issues that can be given monthly resulting in improvement within 24 hours. We moved to Hidden Valley and in both cases, they contacted us within 24 hours to confirm that there had been improvement. Nothing even close to that at Susquehanna. They just don't seem to care. If you don't want your animal to suffer, go somewhere else.

On our seven year old Shih Tsu, "Callie's birthday, the groomer at Crysler Animal Hospital discovered swollen lymph nodes. The clinic there did some blood tests and forwarded a sample to the KU Veterinary School for analysis. KU definitively affirmed lymphoma and suspected a possible cancer present. Dr. Erica Nowlin at Crysler suggested further testing at BluePearl Pet Hospital as they are an oncology hospital and would be able to confirm cancer. We easily booked an appointment and Callie was seen by Dr. Heather Heeb on Thursday 5/28/26. We were impressed with the thoroughness of the examination and testing results. We were offered a plethora of treatment options. But we came away with the realization, Callie will succumb to this disease. On Friday 5/29/26, we made two phone calls to BluePearl, leaving two voice mail messages. Neither were acknowledged nor did we receive a callback. On Monday 6/1/26 7:20 a.m. we called and again left a voicemail at the tone requesting an Rx for prednisone which Dr. Heeb had suggested for comfort. Due to the unresponsiveness we experienced, we called the Crysler Hospital at 7:24 to expedite meds, as it was obvious that Callie was in discomfort. By 8:15, Dr. Jay Schweizer called to alert us that Callie's meds were ready for pick up. Thanks so much to the caring, attentive team at Crysler for great COMMUNICATION. Below is a screenshot of the text message received from BluePearl. I would recommend an improvement in communication from the team at BluePearl regarding aftercare.
