Okay, I purchased a vehicle here about a month ago... Be Careful!!! The vehicle I purchased seemed to be at the right price.... However they did not disclose several things that were extremely expensive to fix. 1st) Entire AC system in the vehicle was leaking. Wouldn't hold a charge and had to be replaced entirely. 2nd) windshield wipers were not working because the motor for the wipers was removed... 3rd) they absolutely cleared the check engine light prior to purchase without fixing the issue. After driving it 2 times the check engine light went on. This repair luckily wasn't the most expensive but with check engine lights you need to be careful. 4) i fought with them to fix the doors because they would not open from the outside... this was the most expensive fix and the doors would not open. There are a few other items in the vehicle that I'll need to repair and in total will cost 4K. Unless you are an experienced mechanic and know what to look for be careful here. Purchase a good used car. Needed a second car so I could get to work and throw miles on that one and found a pretty good decent one. Good price . Great mileage. Straight to it. I looked around for a straight week and this was the place to go for the best price and use vehicle. The only thing is double check the paper as the interest was very high without talking to me first , also I would stay away from the warranty. I went against my better judgement and bought a car from this place. We purchased the car from these scam artists for my daughter in August to get back and forth to school. Since AUGUST (only 7 months at this point) we've had to put $6,000 worth of work into the car & we paid 8k for it. From a bad timing chain that wore a hole in the timing cover (we noticed oil on the pan underneath the car when we bought it. Adam said they just "forgot" to put the cap back on), to replacing both front stabilizers, to a faulty ignition coil assembly and now.......................wait for it........................the transmission just blew!! I wanted to wait a while before I wrote this review, now feels like an appropriate time. I am giving this 2-stars solely because the engine checked out, price was okay ($8.5k, realistically should have been $7k), and the body/trim is decent (5/10). We went to Independence Auto and Adam to buy my little brother's first car (2010 Honda Accord 2.4L EX-L, 96k mileage). Please, BUYER BEWARE at this dealership!!! Adam clearly does not inspect vehicles at all, and does not give a discount for anything faulty you find (only offers to fix it himself at an additional cost, which after reading reviews here, you can understand why many are hesitant to let them work on the car themselves, Lord knows what work they'll actually do vs. say they did). My little brother is new to cars, so he did not notice that the brake system was completely busted (Calipers, Rotors, and Pads were all destroyed) until I did a separate test drive myself. When I approached Adam about this, he got defensive, did not believe me, and so I told him to drive it himself, and that's when he noticed it. He made us sign a waiver regarding this, and sure enough, the second day the brake alarm started to beep constantly (Thank God it made it all the way home first, some of the horror stories in the reviews definitely had us worried!). That same second day, the battery was also very loosely connected and it caused the car to not start. I had to tighten the wires myself before being able to take it to the shop. Once we brought the car to our mechanic, upon putting it on the lift, we noticed an excessive amount of rust, and that both axles were on the verge of snapping. Ended up having to pay $2400 in repairs so that it was safe to drive and could pass NYS inspection (it otherwise definitely could not have, and there is still a back left tire leak we are working on). Lastly, we ended up having to drive all the way back to NJ (140 miles round trip) once the title was ready, as we did not trust Adam to send it in the mail properly/correctly and/or on-time (there was a $120 fee if THEY lost anything in the mail, some customers did complain about title issues and not getting them on time as the temporary plate expired, so we figured we'd just mitigate the risk and get it ourselves). When we arrived for the title, he made the poor joke of saying "wow I'm surprised the car is still running". Deep down, I trust he knows what kind of shady business they are running. Hope this shows you what kind of place and person you are dealing with. All in all, this place is sketchy and Adam is extremely cocky, arrogant, obnoxious, and definitely your typical greasy phony used car salesmen (at one point he even bragged about having a lot of money saying "you want to see the bank? I'm doing good man", while negotiating price with us). If you need to buy a car, go somewhere else. However, if you do find yourself buying a car here and from Adam, please do your due diligence and if possible, bring your mechanic!!! read more

It's been a month since we got the car and we still didn't receive the title..because of that we are unable to register the vehicle and the temporary registration expired today. Asked that they do an alignment on the vehicle as well as an oil change being 1000 miles over next service date. I was told to give them a few days to do it and they lied saying it was done even said they had a receipt for services. I took it to my mechanic over at Pep Boys and the alignment would have been impossible to do because of seized tie rods amongst many other issues. I will include the report that shows a plethora of problems including the vehicles need for a wheel alignment. Very happy to take thousands of dollars from anyone, including a disabled veteran, with a "Thank you for your service" but the fine print is but you can go pack sand. To repair the vehicle just so it can receive the much needed alignment is in the ballpark of $1500. Dishonesty with a smile, it's a shame because Adam felt honest but apparently it's just a great front. Went to look at a few cars in the lot. Strangely when I got there the engines of the cars I was there to look at were warm, which raised some confusion but not enough to pay mind to. The car that seemed a good fit had a few concerns, one of the biggest was the breaks were worn out and needed replacing. When I had mentioned it the owner was claiming it to be just rust and should be fine within a few miles and if the breaks do need to be replaced to give him a call and we could work something out. Well not even 24 hours later and about 70 miles of using the car my check engine light comes on. I get home and take out my code reader to see multiple codes pop up. Nothing terrible but parts and labor would set me back $400. That is when all the pieces came together and I realized the guy pulled the battery to reset the engine. I give the guy a call trying not to out right accuse him of anything tell him the situation reminding him of his offer when he sold it. He asks me to find out exactly what had to be replaced and he could see about partially refunding me my money. I gave my mechanic a call had it fixed and gave the dealer a call back. He had a client with him and said he would give me a call back. hours passed and I never got a call. the following day i gave a call, with no answer. this continued until today where I finally got a hold of him. WARNING: DECEMBER 31, 2020. I am leaving a review due to what this car dealer did to me and my child. He destroyed our CHRISTMAS. I am a journalist so I will also publish my story. I purchased a Toyota for my son's very special (1st car) Christmas gift and this dealer promised the car was accident free and perfect. I paid FULL MARKET VALUE FOR A GREAT CONDITION 2007 TOYOTA BASE MODEL FOR $ 5,600 CASH and with tax and all other costs = $7,000 CASH. IMMEDIATELY after bringing car home to Toyota dealership for oil change, it was discovered the battery was near dead, the alternator belt was eroded, battery terminals eroded and there was no coolant in the engine and paid nearly $500 in repairs. I was told to bring it back for a more detailed look over and there appears to be exhaust issue. Then Christmas eve I noticed the long cracks along front bumper and the entire front end bumper was hanging low from the hood where it meets as if it was "falling down". I noticed a slight muffled sound under car. I brought car to another mechanic and discovered the car had been in an accident, had been painted (ADAM HAD TOLD ME THE PAINT SPLASH ON FRONT TIRE WAS SPLASH FOR ANOTHER CAR) etc.. and also the entire exhaust system under car is eroded and leaking in multiple places and needed full replacement including the deal breaker "the VERY EXPENSIVE catalytic converter". This car is a California emissions on this part MAKING IT A MORE EXPENSIVE PART. The left rear tire must be replaced and the AC condenser leaking AND front body work needed due to accident!! TOTAL COST FOR REPAIRS $2,500 TO $3000 ADDED TO MY $7000 AND $500 REPAIRS SO FAR = -------------------- OVER 10,000 DOLLARS FOR A 4,000 DOLLAR 2007 BASE CAR. NECESSARY REPAIRS!! Car is leaking exhaust in the cabin with multiple leaks and is UNSAFE TO DRIVE!! ADAM SAYS "IT RUNS RIGHT?" WHEN I CALLED HIM!! I saved a long time for this special gift and told ADAM this. Had a very good experience and I am stating that despite missing out on a car. You need to work with Adam, the owner, on your needs and you need to drive a car around the route they give which varies from slow to fairly fast(unlike some other dealers) and/or have it independently checked if you are not mechanical. You yourself should thoroughly check the car's ordinary functions: braking smoothly, accelerating smoothly, radio, heat, electric windows, etc., OK, then voice your concerns with the car, if any, before committing. If you present yourself and issues as serious, honest, and determined and have the funding to really buy I found Adam reasonable and gives straight answers in responding to issues with a car. I am saying this despite my regret that I missed a car somebody else bought in the meantime 1st because I was unfamiliar with a hybrid car and then crucially delayed for family reasons. Two words, Shady Operation. This place is the reason used car dealers have such bad reputations. Yesterday, July 26, 2017, was the first time my mother and I ever visited Independence Auto Sales. After I took a car on their lot, a Suzuki, for a test drive, my mother voiced an interest in the car, but only if she could have her son look at it first. After finding out from Adam what time they closed, she told him that her son could not look at the car that night. My mother suggested putting a hold on the car so that her son could inspect it, and Adam said that for a fee of $1000, he could hold the car for three days. Her conversation with Adam led her to believe that if her son did not approve of the car, her money would be refunded. I left the office to look at other cars on the lot, and thought I left my mother in good hands. Was I ever wrong! I believe that when I left the office, Adam saw the opportunity to scam my mother out of $1000. As stated above, Adam led my mother to believe that the $1000 was refundable, and that the paperwork she was signing was putting the car on hold for three days. My mother's eyesight isn't the greatest, so she was unaware that the paperwork she was really signing was a non-refundable down payment on the car, and since Adam did not review what she was signing with her, he easily bilked her out of $1000. Last night, we did research on the car, and found Suzuki has not sold vehicles in the US for many years, so we decided not to purchase the car. We went back to Independence this morning, July 27, 2017, to inform them about what we learned online about Suzuki's, and that we no longer were interested in the car. Adam told my mother that the paperwork she had signed was, in fact, for a $1000 non-refundable down payment, and not for a three day hold on the car. He said she could use the money towards another car on the lot, but he could not refund her the money. We told Adam that we needed another car, and that there wasn't any other car on the lot we were interested in. Prior to going to Independence, and thinking the $1000 would be refunded, my mother purchased a used car from another used car dealer. My mother has spent the money she has saved for a used car, and cannot spend anymore money on another car at Independence. So, if she doesn't go back to Independence by July 29, 2017, she will be out $1000! They did not even offer her a partial refund, a refund she could really use. I already put in 3000 dollars to fix the piece of shit I bought. And he is so fucking arrogant and won't return any phone calls.. the staff go around putting new oil in the car so it looks like it's brand new but when I got the oil changed it came out like glue. Battery died right on the lot. The oil dipstick was spray painted brown so it looked like it was filled. Gas tank had a whole in it and the car was on empty so you couldn't tell. Check engine light went on the next day. So many fucking problems I've had. And this douchebag doesn't care. Oil seals leaking, inspection failed twice, car shimmies on the road.. I've contacted the BBB and other people.. he violated the lemon law in the state on NJ on my vehicle and I would bet, a thousand more.
