This is a new location for this Indian-owned store. It's been less than a year since their move to this larger establishment. I was so surprised by how big it was! They have a little bit of everything and tons of ingredients and cookware for your Indian dishes that you're cooking up tonight. You can purchase prepared Indian food, sweets and drinks, lots of bagged rice, and of course, lots of spices, nuts, and seeds at really reasonable prices. The staff was very friendly. They're authentic and pride themselves on being The go-to Indian store for those of the culture, and others in the community who love the flavor as well. They also have a small inventory of Indian films. I was personally happy to find lots of henna and hair products that me, as an African-American with natural hair is alllll about. Two of my staple Indian haircare brands are Vatika and Nupur...and they carry both! Ladies, it's lit! I typically order them online, but it's always less expensive in an Indian shop. Glad I found it here! Buyer beware of the expiration dates on some on the items though (especially food). Read some of the other reviews of folks who have actually tried something edible. I haven't. They don't have a large selection of imports for nothing. This was the main bummer for me. read more

Everything Indian I could ever possibly want or need. Employees are friendly and helpful. Never seen or had any of the problems low reviewers have noted. I've never purchased anything expired or not fresh. Prices are normal for Indian import grocery for the Houston and even Austin areas. Very nice West Asian grocer. Staff are of great help but not obtrusive. They always have fresh curry leaves! (Curry leaves, AKA Murraya koenigii, from the curry leaf tree is an Indian subcontinent spice. Used like bay leaf - for season only, not usually for consumption.) They also carry Sumac which is great for sprinkling on hummus or Baba ghanoush. There are several varieties of Tahini, vermicelli, teas (loose leaf, bagged and instant chai). The baking aisle has wheat, chickpea & almond flours. There's a frozen food section and a small produce section. Need a quick Lassi? They have canned mango pulp. Personal care products have their own aisle with Tulsi and almond oils. They carry dozens of ready made desserts such as Turkish Delight, Laddu & Kaju (some in vegan versions! YAY!). Great place. This is the new location; it used to be next to the Sitar restaurant near Sawdust and now has moved to the frontage road near Woodlands Pkwy. The new location is bigger and they have good variety / inventory. I agree with other reviewers that things are over-priced given that you can get the same stuff down in Hillcroft / Katy area for a lot less. But this is really the only Indian store in the area so unless you are already headed to one of the other places, you're paying extra for convenience. I mostly buy pre-packaged goods and no produce / fresh foods so I can't comment on quality of those, which other reviewers seem to have had an issue with. But for the stuff I do buy, they usually have at least two to three brands for each type of item to choose between. read more

Extremely overpriced, but it's the only store in the area. The last time I was there, my boyfriend noticed mold growing on the sweets by the check out. He told the cashier and she asked him if any of the other sweets had mold on them. How was he suppose to know? He doesn't work there.... just stumbled across the mold while looking through the sweets. The pre-made curries & roti at checkout are made at sitar and aren't bad. I'm still shocked at the prices the store charges. It's definitely worth it to make the drive to Houston & stock up on what you need there. read more

We have shopped in this grocery store few times and we are not impressed. They keep expired products in the store and will be more than happy to sell it to you if you do not notice the expiration date before you pay. We happened to pick up a packet of sooji that was past its expiration date. I happened to notice that it is 3-4 months past expiration, and the shopkeeper tried to argue that sooji does not go bad. This is the most recent experience, we have seen a lot of stale products on their shelves. I would not shop here and if I do, I will ensure I check and check again if what I am buying is fresh. I think I would drive farther to buy fresh groceries than go to this place. I would have loved to give them 0 stars but Yelp does not let me! read more

This place sells expired items. Specially the food like samosas kept at the counter are most of the times stale. I wasted my money and had throw the food after tasting it. DO NOT ENTER THIS PLACE. Avoid at all cost. Most things the guy sells is expired. The chips/bagged items usually turn out stale. Came into get one item and it was on sale. The reason it was on sale? BECAUSE IT WAS EXPIRED. Found one that wasn't expired in the back of the shelf. Went to the register and the guy rang it up at the original price. So I asked him if the expired items were on sale and he said yes. Then when I went to pay, he said the don't accept credit cards for anything under $5. There was no sign saying that they don't accept credit cards for purchases under $5 anywhere. This Indian store specifically is a ripoff and the guy is a snake. Items are ridiculously expensive. Most common items can be found cheaper and better quality at Trader Joes, HEB, or Kroger. Posted pictures of some expired items. Mind you that they expired around summer of 2015 and it's currently April 2016. Both pics were taken at 4/4/16. Would've taken more pictures but they guy kept following me around. read more

I am so happy this shop is here! I've recently begun to learn to cook Indian dishes and this shop has saved me time and money for certain. I've gone in for different spices and ingredients specific to Indian cooking (most of which I'd never heard of before) and not only are they in stock and inexpensive, but when I couldn't find what I was looking for the young man working that evening made a phone call to check and see if my spice went by different names and sure enough it did. He found it for me; I left with what I needed and will absolutely be back. Although small, the shop has an extensive assortment of Indian ingredients, spices whole and ground, meal starters, and a refrigeration (curry leaves!) and freezer section. read more

The staff likes to up-sell you which is fine, and feels oddly traditional. The selection is amazing... They have everything, it seems. The staff recognizes us, and makes recommendations and alerts us to new items. It's the only place I can find lauki... my favorite. I also get all of my bathroom products here. Fresh samosas are only a dollar, so if they forget them, it's only a dollar... and they bag them in front of you... So if they missed it, you missed it too (in regards to previous poor review)- also I've never bought expired food here. read more

I also brought it to their attention but no offers for money back or exchange or a very sorry! Many people complained of expired products and this is true, yuk! The new store/location looks nice but it shouldn't be stocked with expired products. I have been a lover of Indian food for the past 30 years. When I lived in Houston, there were Indian restaurants all around me where I could eat. I have since moved to Montgomery, Texas for the last 8 years and there is only one Indian restaurant I can visit, which is in The Woodlands. Over the years, I have learned (on my own) how to cook many Indian dishes. Anyone who has cooked Indian food knows the time, effort and amount of spices it takes to cook a dish. I wanted to order large quantities of spices, so I decided to order online. Before checking out online, I decided to first see if there were any Indian stores in my area. That's when I came upon India Gourmet Spices. I decided to hold off on ordering online until I could visit this store. I called India Gourmet Spices and got specific driving directions to this store. On the phone, the gentleman, who sounded like an American, was very pleasant and gave me specific directions to the store. When I got there, I was surprised that he was Indian. He spoke English so fluently! He helped me find all of the spices I was looking for. I was very impressed with their prices. I bought 1-pound containers of spices, which ranged from $3.99 to $5.99, which were much less than the online prices. There was one spice that he was out of in the 1-pound container, but he was able to sell me 2 smaller containers to get by with for now until he gets his delivery next week. Not only did I save on the price of the spices, I also saved on shipping! I was able to get a very large variety of spices for the same price as only 3 spices online. I brought home 7 spices, 4 jars of chutney, some Indian snacks, and 12 delicious, fresh cooked samosas accompanied with mint and tamarind chutney. I will definitely visit this store for all of my Indian spice needs. read more

Some of the stuff seems to be very old and also very few selection... Will never go shopping to this place again since we found a store near The Woodlands with better Indian goods.. read more

I'm surprised at all the other reviews! Where else can you get indian spices in the area? I went to Trader Joes, Cost Plus World Market, local grocery stores and even that Asian market nearby and not one place had garam masala, cumin seeds or some basics. This places is reasonably priced, has every indian spice possible and lots of Asian and Indian snacks. The owner is very nice and helpful and fresh samosas are only $1 each. I'd stop by here just for those- they are excellent! Will definitely come back and would highly recommend. read more

In the skin care area, I've heard of Fair and Lovely through my fiancé and they have that too! LOL One final note to one reviewer, my expectation from anyone in customer service is that they attend to the live person in front of them prior to dealing with phone calls. Only store in US where they don't take return for non-perishable things even. I purchased a mud pot for $9, went to return after few days as got $7 cheaper option, they declined to return. I gave them back and asked them to sell it again, they were happy to take it back.. must be on shelf again. Shame. They keep poor quality veggies. Compared to other stores, the prices are inflated by 25-35% as is the only Indian store in Woodlands area.I will NEVER go there and will recommend others not to either. read more

The business is milking you because of a shortage of Indian grocery stores in the neighborhood. 10 rotis for $7.99. The same sells in Katy/ Sugarland stores for 1.99. Mangoes sell for 11.99, which sell for 6.99 in other Indian stores. The quality of so called fresh vegetables is never fresh. And days old stuff they still sell for the same amount, wilted mint and cilantro being some examples. Picked up samosas which tasted like they were cooked 7 days ago. The only saving grace is that the owners etc are sweet to talk to. Hence the 2 stars. But they need to realize that if their prices are not connected erotic etc people wd drive a bit more and buy from other stores like Rani. read more

I have come to TX from Britain where I lived most of my life. I am used to Indian restaurants and Indian shops where everything from curry spices to Sari's are sold. I have been here for nearly 2 years before I found this wonderful shop. I am so happy I can make a decent curry again. I have been to this shop a couple of times and will be taking someone else who has only experienced a curry stock cube; she needs the full range of spices to understand how rich in flavour curry can be.I love your shop. We will dine at the Sitar Cuisine of India first so she gets her first taste. Being a Texan she want's hers hot ... me thinks a vindaloo would suit her although I prefer a Rogan Josh. read more

Please please please don't think about going to this store!!!!!' My wife and I just moved from California to the woodlands TX. We were both looking for an indian store to buy our daily indian groceries and so decided to go to this store. We bought quite a bit and later at the check out counter we were told that there is fresh cooked dal makhani, which we bought as well along with samosa. Once we got back home we realised that we were charged but not given the samosa and also the dal makhani was some vegetable curry. When we called the store to notify, the gentleman on the phone was least concerned and in turn told us that we should stay on hold as he was talking to another customer - what happened to something called customer service!!!! read more

This is a OK store. 3 times I got dosa batter here and all the time even though it was expired (by date) it was having fungus on the top. I got Mangoes from the same store they were over ripped from inside and I have trash everything. Staff is ok. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone read more

This is good store but the prices are very very high. Same thing at Patel Brothers is uch cheaper. But if you are single than Patel may not serve purpose as its 35 miles away one way so its time consuming & costly affair. e.g. Khakhra price is $2.99 In Chicago its available at $0.99 Snacks is extreemely costlier here.
