You might be tempted to drive past this place, but you need suspend your gut reaction and give it a try. We stopped by for a late dinner (only about 40 minutes before they closed for the night) and it was pretty empty, but we were welcomed and seated immediately. The server was very polite and attentive. We ordered garlic naan, Indian mix onion paneer aloo kulcha, chicken vindaloo, and chicken tikka masala. Naan was great - classic and would order again. I had never had the aloo kulcha and it was very good (think a naan with extra stuff in it - cheese, onions, potatoes). Both chicken dishes were delicious; we couldn't pick a favorite. You can choose your level of spice - we got one medium and one spicy and they definitely had some zing, but were not overwhelming! Both entrees came with sides of white rice. Generous portions - we ate much more than we should have and still had leftovers. Overall, this was a great experience. So, we get basically TWO options for fine Indian cuisine in the old western town of El Paso; and this is the 4 star one (the other is probably 2.5) The service is always great. It is straight forward. Ladies will ask what you want, you tell them what you want, and they bring it to you. A little later on, the lady will ask you to give her money for what you wanted, you will give her money for what you wanted, and then you can leave. Why all service isn't like this, blows my mind... The ambiance isn't much to write home about. There's always a "smell", kinda. Not like a bad one, and after about 10 minutes you get noseblind, but you'll notice it when you walk in. It's not necessarily even bad - and maybe it's the smell of India for all I know - but it's just different is all. The food though? Absolutely love it. I have been waiting to eat here and came on a Saturday, early evening. No wait. The inside is ok but could use some work on the decor and overall ambiance. We placed our order but had to hold our fingers up, too many times to request things like refills and forgotten items. We waited longer than usual to request to go boxes and the check. Our server was nice but not easily accessible. The food was delicious and flavorful. The samosas, the curry goat, and Lamb Tiki Masala were all delicious. We visited on Easter Sunday after a few recommendations. El Paso doesn't have enough Indian food restaurants. Honestly I am conflicted in writing this review. The location is convenient, easy to find. Upon walking in we were seated but they must have been very short staffed because it took a long time to order and get our food. In fact, I think they brought out someone from the kitchen to help serve. My worst comment must be regarding their restrooms. I hope it was only on this day but I literally walked to the back to use the restroom and I walked straight back yo my seat. The smell of sewage was so bad that I could not walk into the women's restroom, even with the door propped open. Even after I sat down at my booth it took me a long time to get rid of the smell in my nose. My appetite was gone. We stayed to wait on the food. I admit it was all very flavorful. The chicken soup, while flavorful, was mostly water. The Butter Chicken, rice and Naan was great. Prices were very reasonable. All in all, not sure where I sit on this place. I had lamb tandoori in sauce, garlic naan and raita. The lamb comes with a small serving of rice (which is good since most things here are a la carte; I didn't see any Thali [combo plates] or support for any buffet options). The garlic naan didn't really smell or taste like garlic. This is normal at Indian restaurants although more of an issue here. The lamb was overdone for the most part and could have been beef if it wasn't for a slight gamey flavor, and hard to tell by taste or texture. This also is normal for an Indian restaurant. I ordered delivery and this was one of the best packages delivery order I have received during anytime- not just the pandemic. The garlic naan was carefully wrapped in waxed paper and then in tin foil to keep it at a perfect temperature. There are two large half circles in the package and it is not overly garlicky- you could have it at work. The tandoori chicken is so juicy and tender and perfectly spiced (tastes great wrapped up in a piece of the naan). The onions and peppers topping it have a nice char on them and great flavor. The vegetable samosas are not like Girl Scout cookies- they are buttery, flaky triangles filled with purred veggies and deep fried; they are accompanied by two dipping sauces but are so good all by themselves. We also ordered the chicken tikka masala medium. It came out mild it wasn't very spicy at all and the rice portion is really small that came with the Chicken Tikka Masala. Channa Masala same thing not spicy at all tastes very mild and once again the rice portion is small. Also to add idk if it was just our waiter but she was very impatient she came to ask what we'll drink and we said we'll get water for now and she brought it and asked if we were ready to order we had just sat down. India Hut is a great spot for Indian food on the west side of El Paso! I was very excited to eat here yesterday after driving by so many times. I started my order with a mango lassi, which was about average (since I love lassi, average = super good). We decided to share 2 entrees, the lamb korma and the spinach paneer (palak paneer), both at a medium spice level. The lamb korma was delicious! It was a creamier korma, and it had a good amount of spice. The spinach paneer was also really good - we noticed that there was more "texture" as the vegetables weren't completely mixed in as they are sometimes, which we didn't mind. The spice level was about what we expected here too. We also ordered naan, both regular and cheese. The regular naan was about average, and the cheese naan didn't have a bad flavor but was very thick. In the future we might not order that one again because of how filling it was! I would like to try the garlic naan next time. Our only complaint was the amount of food for the price. We felt like both dishes were smaller than we usually see at Indian restaurants in Houston for a similar price, and there was not a ton of lamb included in the korma. We also ran out of rice at the end which usually never happens for us with what is given to start. Overall, we had a great experience here. You can't judge a book by the cover--ok, sure--i get it. This place was horrendously loathsome in appearance, and was dingy, dirty, and poorly lit. The seats were all booth style and had hard and somewhat brittle plastic bench/booth style seats. The table tops were small and did not accommodate all of our food. It easily could accommodate 2 diners with two drinks each, two appetizers and two meals and one bread basket. It could uncomfortably fail in accommodating 3 or 4 diners. The acoustics were deplorable. If you closed your eyes and imagined yourself in rural Russia with 84 inches of snow, and no stores or restaurants, and this was the only restaurant in town....and the year was 1978....I forgot to mention that they had the name of the restaurant or maybe "I-N-D-I-A-N F-O-OD" spray painted on the glass of the building. Alright.... now you're probably getting it. So, let's be super generous and give the ambiance and setting 2 stars. The service was wickedly imperfect. I asked for them to make me onion fritters (Pecora) and the waiter (a tall, stooped, younger, bearded, and stocky chap) bristled and groused and told me they make only what's on the menu. Fair, fine, whatever. I asked said waiter about 3 dishes and he stared at me and after a pregnant pause after each of my inquiries announced, "don't know, never tried it." When I politely asked asked if he could as a colleague, he twirled his pen, thought about it, and said, diffidently, "fine, when they are free" before spinning on his heels and stomping away mumbling to himself. The new waiter was nicer but failed to know the order of food coming out, the last appetizer appearing moments prior to the main meals and failed to check in to see how we were doing more than just once. I did not complain, but silently seethed and stewed in my own juices. So, let's be nice and give the service a gentleman's 1-star. Before getting into the food, the bathrooms were gross and there was an electrical hazard that needs repair. You can't take a hand dryer that has high amperage and snake the two unsheathed wires between the junction box and kits cover. So... now is the hard part. The food was actually quite good. Not amazing but darn toot'in toothsome. The tandoori chicken was cooked to perfection and coated with a nice coat of the sauce. Amazing, actually. The sizzling platter was nicely appointed with plentiful vegetables. The three legs were one short of the 4 we needed for our table. The curry chicken was cooked absolutely perfect and the taste of spice permeated well into the chunks of chicken. It seemed like it might have been soaking and basting for days. The chicken was moist. It was spiced perfectly and was neither too spicy nor too bland. If you don't like spicy food, this might be a good dish for you. The portion of chunked chicken seemed to be one breast and one thigh. If you're hungry and this is your only order, you'll maybe leave hungry. So, let's be fair here. The food was a solid 4. 4,2,1 gives us an average score of 7/3= 2.33 so it gets rounded to an unfortunate, but founded and earned score of 2. :-( If you only care about the food, and thats all, then this would be a fine choice. read more

Can I just start with a quick apology... i've been living in the city for quite some time and only NOW in 2023, I finally made time to visit this location. It looked like a flat bread but tasted light and soft fluffy (is that even a thing?). Did I mention garlic?! Yummy! Keeps the vampires and simps away! Then drum roll... main entree of chicken MILD curry with my white rice. The dish was topped with a lot of cilantro and I was excited to scoop in as that's my thing, you know! Placed my rice on the separate plate and covered it with a healthy scoop of the chicken curry. I was actually blown away by the richness in flavor profile with that little spice. I have to say, I think this may be my favorite curry dish?!? I'm so accustomed to Japanese and Thai curry that sometimes we forget the South South Asian curries. Absolutely Approve! After swallowing everything whole, did I even chew? I was ready to close the meal with Rasmalai desert. I really didn't know what I was eating but my Westside connection said go for some white balls, and yes, that's what they said, white balls. So white balls it is! Sooooo disappointing. Had the lunch buffet and there was basically no meat or substance to any of the dishes provided. Everything was just average. After reading the yelp reviews, I came in with super high expectations especially since people compared India Hut to India Palace. I can confidently say India Palace's Lunch Buffet was far better than India Hut's - hands down. All the dishes served during the Lunch buffet at India Hut were very watery and hardly had any meat. Vegetable samosas were great, not over powering with spices and the green spicy sauce that comes with it is amazing! I had the medium heat butter chicken is great portion for an individual and heat level at medium was not bad at all. Mango lassi was great.
