She told us that they were preparing a large to go order so we just arrived on time. She explained a few things on the extensive menu and pointed out to their lunch specials that cost $8.85. My wife ordered the Teriyaki chicken and I ordered the Tofu Homestyle option. The price includes a soup and either steamed or fried rice. The platter was generous, we liked specially the Hot & Sour Soup. After we arrived several customers came to eat there as well as picking up food. Bathroom smelled foul. I want to advise the owners to take a good look at their ventilation system, as the smell was just gross. The decor is absolutely confusing (Chinese paintings, naval decor) and the TV was running for the one staff member who kept watching synopsis of movies, some of them a bit disturbing and not fit for a family restaurant. But I was hungry for Chinese this Tuesday and my favorite place is closed that day so I decided to go search Soya out. And search is what I had to do! Even my 2 GPS apps sent me to the wrong place by a block or so... it's in a strip mall just where Airport goes Into Montana. Now my GPS' said it was the strip mall BEFORE the one it actually is.. but as I decided to keep going I found the only entrance AND exit to another strip mall and as I was looking at all the business names across the top of the Mall I see the word "SOYA". So I pull over to it and the parking lot is packed, but one place is opening up under the sign so I wait and get that place. On the windows it's painted "Chinese Restaurant". So this must be the place. As you walk in, you first see, it's a hole in the wall. Plan walls. Boxes stacked around. No AC working so two HUGE black portable air converters blowing loud but cooler air across the 7-8 tables in the place. Only 4tops with 4 chairs each. About 3 tables were occupied when I showed up. There is a counter towards the back.. I walked to it because it had menu's spread out on the top and I thought maybe you order, pay and go sit down ... but the lady wanted to know if I was here for pickup, I kindly told her no, I wanted to eat inside. So she said pick any table and they would come to me. So I did. She came quickly. Took my Drink order and left a menu. It was typical "Chinese" faire. Lunch specials range from $8.75-$10.75 or so. Each entree comes with fried or steamed rice. If you want soup or egg rolls that costs more. Most places I go those items are included, so if you get those things you will spend a bit more here. I was a bit disappointed in the egg roll. It had no pork or shrimp or any protein. It was more like a spring roll. Just veggies. The egg drop soup was super yummy. The right kind of texture, color and amount of eggs. And good flavor. They barely give you any crispy strips for it, but at least you get some.. I got Mongolian Beef with no heat. And fried rice. And it was amazing. Nice bite size chunks of beef. Good amount of Green peppers and other veggies. Mushrooms were a little too thin, could have been sliced not so thin so as to be more of a flavor contributor to the dish. The fried rice was AMAZING. You could taste the "wok char" in the rice, this was actually fried and not just doused in soy sauce. It was delicious. Best I've had since Hunan on Mesa. The place is very small, very plan, no Chinese lanterns or dragons or Buddha's, a true hole in the wall place... making pretty Good Chinese food.
