    Mushy/sticky Fried Rice,
    Jay T.

So this is a brand new place, but not new to El Paso, they have a location already on the West Side on Mesa. But I had never been cuz I don't get over there too much, but I had seen the "opening soon" banner on this location every other day as I passed by and I was craving Chinese and my favorite place on Lee Trevino is Closed on Tuesdays, so I decided to give it a try. It's not really "decorated" inside as a Chinese place. It's just white walls, simple tables. But I loved the porcelain S&P shakers and the Soy Sauce pitcher on the table. And let me warn you, it is the full strength Soy sauce! In case you have been enjoying low sodium at home or other places, this only takes a little and punches a POW of saltiness. But I digress. They have all the typical Chinese specialties on their menu, which the menus themselves they must have brought some over from the Mesa location cuz the menu i got was old and tattered and and the clear plastic was scuffed from age. I understand trying to save a dime with opening costs, but seriously, get new menus to hand to new customers at a new place. You only get one time to make a first impression. Only one girl was taking orders from behind a counter when you arrive, and asks if you are here for pick up, she did this with several who came in, but if you aren't and are there to eat in, she tells you to sit anywhere and she will be with you in a moment, then she comes out of a side door about half way down the long dining room and brings the menu and takes your order. Very nice, pleasant and easy knowledgeable about the menu items. I ordered the Happy Family, which theirs comes with Beef, chicken and shrimp, as well as various vegetables, broccoli, carrots, water chestnuts, celery, onions and mushrooms in a brown sauce. And the lunch special comes with a spring roll, choice of soup and choice of rice. I got Egg Drop Soup and. Chose fried rice. With iced tea. She came back with my tea and soup and fried noodles, but you can hear the cook or chef working a WOK, in the kitchen. This got me excited. I love fresh wok fried rice, it has a certain, char to it that's so delicious, and it's better than premade, sitting wait to be scooped from a pan and plated. I had asked for some green onions on my egg drop soup and they happily obliged. This soup was delicious. The place I normally go On Lee Trevino has my favorite Egg Drop soup in El Paso...and I eat it every chinese place I go ...but now this, this is a close second if not fighting for first place. Sometimes at places I need to add soy sauce to my soup to help with flavor, not this, the temperature, the consistency, the flavor were all just perfect. I added a few dashes of pepper which I enjoy and that was it. My food came and everything was steaming! Lots of meat in my Happy Family, and I mean several Shrimp,.not just 2 which is what I get some places when I order the lunch. It was delicious, needed no soy sauce or anything. The spring roll was crispy, hot, the veggies inside were slightly mushy but still had some crispiness. I did pour some soy sauce inside it, so good. Loved that the carrots in the Happy Family were Crinkle cut like french fries!!! Little sticks! I stead of huge thick slices or big chunks. The way all they meats and veggies were treated was superb. Nice size slices of Chicken and beef, I even had to cut some in half. All veggies well cut similar sizes. But that fried rice. That's where things, today, went awry. This rice had issues. Either it was way overcooked the day before and turned to mush and they tried to use it anyway and stir fry it cuz they didn't want to waste it. OR they had just cooked fresh Rice today, it was not cooled, and then they tried to fry it and it just was mushy and sticky. It had no char. It had a couple of peas and carrots in it, but you need single, individual grains of rice, with fried rice. This just wasn't. It was like over steamed rice then tried to fry and it just got worse. And it tasted funny, like it had a bunch of garlic powder In it?? It was the only thing I left and didn't eat. It was just unpleasant. So maybe they are still working a few kinks out. I will come back and try them again. Everything else was delicious and service was great.

El Paso…read morewas one of our last stops on the way and we searched for Guy Fieri's visited restaurant list and found Kaemada. We had wonderful meals of BBQ, Southern, American and Mexican food but we started to miss our Ramen meals back home. This place was great. Ot had a youthful, edgy vibe with cozy and nice colorful decor. We ordered the Thicc Boi and Birria Ramen, and ordered sides of the Thai Peanut Cucumber Salad, and Pork buns. The salad was a nice appetizer. We wished we had this back home. The dressing tasted peanutty with black sesame seeds and a nice acid balance. Kaemada's Ramen has El Paso influences. The broth had full bodied flavor, the meat was cut thicker with grilled char! Please also try the Birrea Ramen! We eat Birria broth and tacos at home and this ramen bowl was a great marriage of the 2 dishes. The thick cut and grilled char feature was also included in the pork bun. It was so tasty and satisfying with the thick pork cut, which I often thought was too thin anyways in the original version. They took the best El Paso meat flavor and Japanese presentation influences to make Kaemada's dish unique and their own. Don't expect the delicate and refined dashi broth Japan has. Be open to the bold flavors of the pork and broth. Expect a Southwest and Japanese fusion of robust and evolved flavors. Personally, I like firm noodles so request it cooked this way. Izzy, our server was friendly and attentive. She made our meal there more pleasant. Don't forget to order the Yuzu Cheesecake, light and not so sweet with a strong presence of Yuzu. A great finish to our meal. 10/10.

I LOVE their tofu! The day we went, they had a special on the mochi ice cream, and the staff recommended the strawberry and mango, and they were delicious. Staff is super friendly, ready to make recommendations, and the food is always beautifully presented. Place is small, so going with a large party would require letting them know ahead of time, but always good music and nice vibes.

Everything was super tasty highly highly recommend the kimchi pancake. Flavor was spectacular and perfectly crispy/crunchy. The squid entree was very tasty too just a little too many peppers for me. Would get again if I didn't want to try other things. Value is really great for how much food I got. Yes we really over ordered (2 apps 2 entrees for 2 people) but still all the plates were big. Perhaps only downside is that the dining area is pretty small. I would expect them to outgrow their little storefront quickly. I'd come back next time I travel to El Paso.

It was a bit uncomfortable with how loud it was and sitting next to strangers not being able to have a comfortable conversation with the person in front of you. The food was really good! I enjoyed the tteokbokki so much and I feel like as simple as this dish is, a lot of places sometimes miss. Again I know it isn't their fault maybe the day I came in it was really busy and maybe it's not that busy usually but I would have liked to be in a bigger space.
