This place serves excellent indian food. They have a great lunch buffet, but the dinner entrées are my favorite. The owner prepares and serves all the dishes himself, so service can be leisurely at times, but the food is well worth the wait. We usually always get the saagwala and a spicy curry dish along with an order of Naan. I've tried about a third of the dishes on the menu and I have never been disappointed. BYOB read more

The buffet is pretty good and well stocked with vegetarian dishes. It's not amazing Indian food, but I still ate a ton of it.

The guy who runs this place is so nice and humble, he does everything by himself, and says thank you about 100 times while you are there. If you order off the menu it's okay food. The buffet is as others have said, very watery and pretty salty. I wish I could say better things about this place, but that's just how it goes. Rice is hit or miss on how well it was made. The price is lower for the buffet than most so I guess that helps. If you are in a pinch and just have to get it a fix it's mediocre and will help you out. read more

We were cruising through the town and thought of giving this place a try. Sub par quality! My kid who is in middle school cooks rice better than what we were served here which was mushy and no flavor at all. The lamb biryani was such a disappointment. 10 pop corn side pieces strategically placed to cover the servicing :) Chicken Tikka masala was very very salty :( and my kid refused to eat it. Best Indian food in Lubbock which also give it the distinction of being the best Indian food in west Texas. The buffet is great and everything on the menu is great as well. Paul, the owner who is much more Indian than the name might suggest, is often the one who will greet you at the door, take your order, cook it, ring you up, and hold the door for you on the way out. A jewel of an individual. Such kind courteous service would be enough to keep me coming back. I once ate without realizing that I didn't have my wallet. I was very embarrassed when going to pay at the end of the delicious meal. Paul shrugged it off and said that we could square up the next time I was in. We did so a couple of weeks later. That kind of thing is special to me and doesn't happen at a chain restaurant. The only caveated that I have for this excellent local gem is that since it's a small family owned, it can take a good amount of time to get your food after ordering if there are a number of fellow patrons ordering at about the same time. That being said, I'd highly recommend anyone, especially good ol' west Texans, giving this excellent and unique place a shot. read more

Awesome food great service. The owner takes great pride in the food and service. 3 of us had the whole restaurant to ourselves right before closing time. We ordered several different entrees. This place is awesome. Mr. Pal is the nicest, most gracious and attentive host. All saag and chicken dishes I've had are always good. My particular favorite is the Malai Kofta - so rich and flavorful. Tomato soup is excellent, the samose are great as well. The Gulab Jamun and the rice milk cardamom dessert thing are delightful. India Palace is definitely a hole in the wall but, the prices are reasonable, outstanding service, and I always leave there feeling great about what I ate (unlike another Indian restaurant where I always leave feeling gross likely because of all the cream and MSG in their dishes). Definitely recommended and one of my personal favorite places to eat out in Lubbock. read more

The dishes during lunch buffet are standard home cooking Indian dishes, usually two meat dishes, about six to eight vegetarian dishes, rice, naan, and desert. The upside of this restaurant is the dishes are non-greasy, very light and very easy on the stomach. You can stuff yourself with the food from the buffet, a few hours later, you will be fine, its completely digested. I can't say the same for the food served in the other Indian restaurant in Lubbock. The naan is something to die for. The cook (who is also the owner, the server, the busser, the cashier) made the naan from scratch. Coming from a country where naan is as common as potatoes in US, I have to say that the naan is very authentic. I ate the naan the way I would when I was back home, with dhal and sugar, it tastes just like home. Don't let the exterior and interior of this restaurant affect your judgment. Give it a try and you will be pleasantly surprised. read more

This was a really good restaurant. We came pretty late and the owner was about to leave, he had locked up and was prepared to leave and then we walked in. He was happy to serve us even though he was closed, he let us in and was very kind. The food was excellent, and he cooked it as fast as he could. You won't get any frills here, but you will get authentic Indian food that is delicious and resonably priced. Everything I have had at India Palace has been fantastic. I've been so used to "westernized" Indian food that it was startling and refreshing to taste more authentically prepared Indian food. I have given this restaurant the benefit of a doubt two times due to the positive reviews about the politeness of the owner. I can say that both times I have eaten from India Palace Indian Restaurant the experience was horrible. The owner can be as nice and polite as can be, but the place is absolutely dirty and the food is sub-par at best Indian food. I have been over-charged both times with several appetizers never making it to the table. If anyone has ever eaten even the most "Americanized" Indian food can recognize that the food here falls far short of anything loosely affiliated with being authentic or flavorful. I hate to break it to all the other reviewers of this restaurant, but Lubbockites do not have a clue about "good food". Everyone/everything in this town is bland, dull, and lacking of culture or flavor. Indian Restaurant may be a novelty for locals, but if you are not from Lubbock I can assure you that you will be severely disappointing with the Indian Palace. The people of this town need to stop their acceptance of sub-par products/services; it will be the only way to actually improve the quality of the food in this town. I never, never give terrible reviews because I know how much it can hurt a place of business. However, I cannot in good conscience allow others to go there expecting good food. The man serving was VERY nice, very kind and even held the door for me. But, I have eaten Indian food since I was a child. I have eaten it in Scotland, Portugal, and many states in the US. I have never tasted anything like this food. It was salty water. I got to the buffet within 5 minutes of it opening and when I was directed to the buffet there was one tray with only gravy in it and no meat/potato anything. It was like it had already been eaten. There was a curry with potatoes and a Saag Paneer and then there was chicken in one tray. The naan was so-so and I just couldn't eat the curries because they were all like soup and so, so salty. I am not afraid of a whole-in-the-wall place either. My favorite Indian place in Portugal was located on the 3rd floor of an apartment building and you would never know it was there if someone didn't tell you. I don't need fancy. I could have put up with the fact that the buffet was located in a room with no lights. I could barely see the food I was putting on my plate. There were chairs stacked in the corners and it looked like the buffet was stuck in a dimly lit spare room or something. Had the food been good, I would not have cared one bit about the looks of the place. Sorry. The gentlemen working it was very nice, but the food was soooo bad. read more

If this is your first time wanting to try Indian food, please do not go to this place. The only thing Indian about this restaurant is its friendly owner. I'm guessing he's Seik, given his turban and that means I should have been offered some amazing culinary delights from the north of India but hell, I would have settled for any version of the worst street food anywhere in India which would have beat what was on offer at this restaurant. I use the word 'restaurant' very loosely. Please pardon my negativity of this place but I feel I should warn you. In somewhat fairness I did opt for the lunch buffet. Pure disgust and shameful. Maybe the a la carte menu offers a glimpse of authenticity. The lovely Midwest customer in front of me stated that it's her favorite place in the neighborhood. I almost spit my good up when I heard those words to describe where we were. Ok, so there you go. If you want filling, disgusting food that's on the cheap, by all means go. Love, love, love the food here. What you won't get here is fancy interior or exterior of restaurant, but what you WILL get is amazing Indian food. After living in SF Bay Area for 10 years, my hubby and I were frantic to find a good...shoot, we would have even settled for decent, Indian food in Lubbock. Tried several of the "fancier and more hip" places in town...couldn't even finish the food. Namely the place that rhymes with Shikka Shack on Milwaukee. If you are interested in the QUALITY and freshness of food, India Palace is by far the best choice in the Lubbock area!!!! We have his equivalent of chicken tikka masala, saag paneer (spinach and cheese), vegetable samosa, the cucumber and tomato salad. I adore the sweet owner! Very kind man. read more

This place is really good. Best and most authentic north Indian(Punjabi to be precise) food in Lubbock. I dare say its better than my mom's home cooked Indian food so I hope she doesnt read this. The saag paneer is out of this world. I always go for the lunch buffet which is outstanding. They usually have 2 vegetable dishes and 3 meat dishes with rice and soup as well. i like the naan there too. i actually know the owner(he is a Sikh gentlemen) and I can tell you he is one of the kindest people I have ever met. I've never been for dinner but Iwould imagine the food is just as good. Only knock is the sodas are from a can(i like fountain soda). My first time here and it was great. The food was spicy and savory and delicious. The service is friendly and slow paced, providing lots of time for conversation. India Palace is my favorite Indian restaurant. Pal (pronounced "Paul") is the friendly, proprietor, chef, host, waiter and is a great chef, host and waiter indeed. I'm a fan of mater paneer, and India Palace's is heavenly. I've recently become a pescetarian, and his restaurant is one of the few places where a a vegetarian or pescetarian (or anyone, for that matter) can feast and not really miss meat at all. Having said that, there are always two or three meat dishes on the buffet. It's a bit chilly in his restaurant during the winter months, and the decor is a dated, but I'm all about the substance and not so much the flash, and India Palace is heavy on substance. I close by respectfully disagreeing with R.S.'s assessment that that India Palace's naan is "subpar". Pal makes it from scratch every day and it is delicious. read more
