I have been here multiple times and can say that the owners and waiters/waitresser are always very friendly. They also have an ample amount of vegetarian options. Their chana masala is incredible. My family and I have been going here for years and we are big fans. The food is always delicious and fresh. Some favorite dishes are the vegetable samosa, mulligatawny soup, chicken tikka and the chicken vindaloo. They are happy to customize a dish to your tastes. Having Just moved to the area we were excited to find an indian restaurant so close to us. We were looking forward to the meal as the place had fairly good reviews here on Yelp. Unfortunately Yelp you let us down this time :-( We had a groupon for 4 for a great price. That should have been our first clue...if it's too good to be true...there's probably a reason. The walked in at 6:45 on a Saturday night and the place was completely empty. The owner was on his phone but looked up to tell us to sit wherever we wanted. We were given water immediately and we told the waitress that we had a groupon and would she like it up first. She said we could give it to her later. She came back and took our order. There was still no one in the restaurant, for a saturday night it seemed surprising. The waitress then came back and asked us if the groupon was for 2 for 4 people. I said it was for 4 and she she couldn't honor it because there was only 3 of us. I proceeded to tell her that one of our guests cancelled at the last minute but we would order the the food for 4. The owner.manager who was apparently behind began to argue with us that we could not do that and that the groupon was specific for 4. I apologized again and explained the situation, and he continued to speak rudely to us and told us he could not serve us. I told him we would have to leave as he obviously had enough business to keep his business going. He was happy to let us leave as unhappy customers. Very strange it was obvious the restaurant needed customers but they has no intention of keeping the customers they had. The restaurant a few doors away was completely packed, so it nothing to do with the location or time. I was glad to find a gem of a thai place a little up the street. Best decision I made to leave the restaurant. I don't recommend this place at all. read more

Just finished dinner at this place for the first time and I can't understand why I haven't been more often with my wife. Service was so friendly. As someone who doesn't eat Indian often, I can be intimidated by the choices, but that was the last thing I felt when I was here. The menu has descriptions of each item and any question we asked as met with friendly enthusiasm. That alone was enough for me to return, and then the food came. I've been eating here for more than 8 years and think this is some of the best India food in the area. I like spicy and aromatic foods (bear in mind not all Indian dishes are spicy hot, but I do prefer that style), and have some decent experiences to compare India Raj against. I've eaten at some of the Indian places on 'curry row' in Manhattan, as well as the Indian restuarants in Fairfield County, including Cormondel and Kolam, and by far the overall flavors are more pleasant at India Raj. They recently updated the menu and have even more vegitarian items then before. Its definitely worth checking out. read more
