We chose this place because it was close to our hotel. We know very little about Indian food but we're game for trying something different. It is definitely an Indian restaurant that caters to fellow Indians. There was a hanging menu with a list of dishes and prices but no descriptions. We asked for help and they had a collection pictures on a paper menu, but no names, descriptions or prices. We ordered butter chicken and something else recommended on yelp. There were only two places to sit and so we decided to wait in the car and watch the semi trucks do masterful parking. We took our food back to the hotel. Our bellies got full. The butter chicken was decent. Only go if you know what you want and you want it carry out. If you want alcohol.... They have plenty of that. read more

Let me start off with the great customer service from the hard working employees, they have a dine in place inside this restaurant as well, I ordered the curry shrimp with rice and it was definitely great plus they give you enough rice definitely more than I was expecting but that's fine, I definitely have to come back and try a few more menu items next time I'm in the area. read more

This is one of the more unique restaurant in Indianapolis. It previously was (I've heard) a regular truck stop diner but now is owned by an Indian family. Therefore, they serve traditional trucker diner food (mashed potatoes, eggs, etc) and AMAZING INDIAN FOOD. Seriously, it's really good. My vegetarian dining partner says their dal mahkni (sp?) is the best. I LOVE their chicken tikka. Their roti is very buttery and delicious. We've liked everything we've had so far. Location is right off of 465 and Harding - so great if you're getting off the highway. It's hidden a bit from the road, but follow GPS and it should work out. Be careful making a left-hand turn from leaving the diner and back onto the road - it can be really busy. The restaurant looks like your average greasy spoon diner. Service is pretty good - I see them having a lot of convos with the truckers who come in to dine alone, so I think that's nice. They also serve a lot of alcohol, too. The rotis are big and will fill you up. This is a dive with some great food and excellent service. Dining area was closed for seating. We arrived around 1 and orders were coming in rapidly. The young lady said it would be about 20 mins. Order came out a bit quicker than expected. Again the phone was constantly ringing and people were picking up left and right. This place is near a truck stop, actually right across. Going back to our order, the taste was great, quantity was excellent, and we were full! We ordered on UberEats and realized after delivery that this is not the name of the restaurant (it goes by Biryani Bistro). And it's inside the gas station. We were a bit apprehensive because it was $70 for three meals, they didn't include our rice, and it didn't look like the photos. The goat biryani wasn't very good, and we tossed the majority of it. Which was a real bummer considering the restaurant is NAMED for its biryani. The paneer mahkni was OK. the flavor of the sauce was good, but the paneer was incredibly chewy. As of March 2022, this restaurant is takeout only, but I imagine seating will reopen soon. Everyone in my party of 10 loved their meal and said they'd return. I got Lamb Saag and a Mango Lassi which were delicious and fresh. The Lamb Saag had a very light amount of spice. If you're not too familiar with Indian food, you may have to google especially the veggie options before ordering. If you have sensitivity to flashing lights, beware that some light strips in this restaurant may irritate you. The biggest cons of this restaurant are the wait time and location. The posted signs say you may have to wait 45-60 minutes, but all entrees in my big party were out in about 30 minutes. If you're within a 30 minute drive, I would recommend calling in your order and then picking up to avoid wait time. The location is kind of difficult to find behind the vape shop, and some buildings nearby are run down. The inside of this restaurant and the parking lot seemed well-kept. If you pay with cash and your meal is over $20, you get a discount! The staff was friendly. read more

All indications say that this place now calls itself alternately, Indian American Restaurant or American Indian Restaurant, depending on what you're looking at (signs, menus, etc.). It also has a 3-way liquor permit, which is pretty odd in Indiana. Their clientele was largely Indian truck drivers, who bought pints and quarts and more of food to take on the road with them. This is a positive indication. But there are problems. This is tough to review, so bear with me. First, the food is probably a 4 star. Good stuff, good and varied ingredients. We had great garlic naan, and two moderatly spiced dishes. There are both meat and "vegetarian" dishes. The staff is friendly. And they are watched by at least a dozen cameras that I could casually count. I have to take a point off for clumpy rice. You get served plastic spoons, and the plate wear is probably leftover from the Omelette Shop (they still serve breakfast, American-style ones). Still, the entres we had were pretty good. It's pretty dirty, superficially dirty, the restrooms are dirty. It has a bad paint job. But the food is good, and they're plentifully friendly in this trucker cafe turned Indian restaurant. It reminds me of what I liked and didn't like about India, but the small problems could be easily fixed with a little pride and elbow grease. It's for this reason that I'm unlikely to return. The food is good, but it's dirty, and there's nothing truly novel about it. In a different venue with some cleanliness and attention to detail, this place could easily be a 4 star. If not stated, expect a good amount of butter/oil on the rotis. Food comes with plain yogurt, pickle and onions. Food is authentic, not crazy spicy and delicious. You'll end up taking some portion to-go. They give one to-go box per person and charge extra for additional to-go boxes. They also have some Indian sweets on display but I'm always so full with the food that I don't get to the sweets. They carry lots of variety in alcohol. This is officially the best paneer makhani I've ever had. The chilis and onions came on the side, which was wonderful. I could get a GIANT chai. I also got extra roti because it is just... Perfectly oily for roti. My husband got rice instead and they gave him plenty also. I think I have a new favorite Indian restaurant. Food was good! We had it delivered and sadly the rice didn't make it in the order. How can you eat Chicken Tikka Masala and Saag Paneer without rice? You can't! So, we cooked up some rice at home. The food held nicely. The tandoori chicken was probably the best I've had at a restaurant. The naan was good. Saag paneer wasn't as creamy as we would have liked, but it was still good. Well then they messed up our Lamb Rogan josh. Instead of giving us rogan josh they gave us Chicken tikka Masala. Well we didn't find out until dinner & have no taste either. This place may not seem like anything more than a typical truck stop diner at first glance. The large sign on the tall poles outside, just visible from the interstate, says "Omelet Shoppe" and has a few broken panels. On closer inspection, you can see that the building itself is well maintained and has signs on the side proclaiming "American & Indian diner". The inside is clean and tidy, with the usual diner-style booths and a small bar tucked into the corner. The real difference is in the menu. Half is the usual diner cuisine (burgers, omelets, steaks, etc), the other half is Indian cuisine. My wife and I sampled the Indian menu extensively in our first visit. The food was at least as good as any Indian restaurant we've ever been to, if not better. I tried the bacon cheeseburger on my next visit. It was just as good. I was brought here by one of my Indian friends as her family eats here frequently. This place, while a little off the beaten path, serves up some of the best Indian food I've ever had. It has 2 names- one is "Omelet Shoppe" and the other is Mitra da Dhaba. In other words, this place is a true trucker diner with all of the breakfast and lunch fixins PLUS has a very large assortment of Indian dishes and you can get whatever you want anytime. I could hardly believe this place exists, a little diner at a truck stop near the interstate. With Indian food. The restaurant looks like a throwback diner, and you half expect people rolling around on skates. The menu contains both typical American diner foods and Indian dishes. We went with the Indian food and tried the dal makhoni (sp?) and the chicken makhni (sp?), along with a side of gobi paratha. I'm not a huge fan of lentils, but my friend enjoyed his dish immensely. I liked my chicken dish but couldn't figure out the difference between that and butter chicken since it tasted very similar and the ingredients listed on the menu were the same. The food didn't blow me away but it was decent Indian food in an area rather sparse in good Indian restaurants, and close enough to my house that it's not a long trek to satisfy my cravings. Man, the only thing that upsets me about this place is that I haven't been sooner. Nowhere else in town can you get curry and a burger, or fried balogna and some paneer. You get the picture. It's a wild and wonderful mashup of a menu. The absolutely divine Indian food and friendly, hospitable atmosphere are housed in a very shabby, unassuming (almost downright scary) exterior. Don't judge this book by its cover. We ordered the lamb curry, chicken tika masala, and green peas paneer with a side of garlic naan. Everything was perfect, truly. The tika was actually the best I've ever had. And guys, lemme tell you I've had some tika. The curry was the perfect level of spicy; enough to warm me on a rainy day, but not so much that it upset my hangover. I can't attest to the American side of the menu, but I will be back. Again and again. And I highly encourage you to try this place too. If you or your dinner partner loves Indian food while the other of you has a strictly Americana palate, then this is a great place for you to both get what you want. Really impressed by this restaurant. The building certainly doesn't look like much (a diner-style setup that caters mostly to truck drivers) but the food is on point. It's a hybrid of American diner food and Indian dishes. Pretty strange, right? You can either order American dishes or Indian ones--though I have not tried the American food--depending on the time of day. Fairly good deal for the portions as well. My favorites are the palak paneer and wheat roti. This is my go-to for quality Indian food on the southside of Indy.
