I moved to Indianapolis a couple of years ago and found Spicy Doner on DoorDash. I was very surprised by how amazing the food was and have ordered from them many times since my first order. It had been a while since I last ordered, and today I was craving chicken tikka masala. I placed my usual order, and saying I was disappointed would be an understatement. Look at the salad photo I attached and compare it to the photo on the menu. They are not even close to being the same, and what I received was quite disgusting. The plain naan bread was unusually greasy. After being disappointed by the salad and bread, I do not know why I was surprised when the main dish was lacking as well and tasted nothing like my previous orders. DoorDash still lists the restaurant as Spicy Doner, but Yelp now shows the restaurant name as Punjabi. I can only assume the restaurant is under new management due to the name change and the dramatic decline in quality. Hopefully, I can find an alternative restaurant soon because I will not be ordering from here again. read more

Disappointed. Ordered a falafel pita and chicken doner, so 2 sandwiches. Not too busy in the restaurant, but while I waited 15 minutes I did see a roach walking around. The falafel itself was not fresh (dry) with only lettuce and garlic sauce (expected cucumber salad). The chicken doner was ok, but too saucy and fell apart. read more

Just order food there for the second time. First time I placed an order over the phone and they made it wrong. It was good, so I tried again. This time I went in to place a takeout order, it took 45 minutes for some nanny and a curry. Worst part is the curry had a quarter inch of oil on the top of the curry. We decided on lunch here after seeing the great reviews. The food was made to order, hot, and tastes great. There were a few mishaps with getting orders right while we were there, but the employees handled it well and immediately fixed the problem. Decided to try something new today after reading reviews. I'm so glad we did. They did not disappoint. I can't wait to come back here again. Everything was absolutely amazing. They have 4 tables to sit at after ordering at the counter or they do to go orders. They have music playing which was a little loud but other than that it's a nice clean little restaurant. The menu bored is a little different than the paper menu I took pics of I ordered the curry chicken spicy and it was so flavorful. The chicken was juicy and tender. Ordering it spicy gave it the perfect balance. It comes with a little side of rice which was really good as well. Hubby ordered the lamb shawarma over rice and it was really good. Could use more lamb pieces. The tzatziki sauce was really good might ask for extra next time. We got an order of samosas which was 2. They were huge. It's a puff pastry dough filled. I'm not sure exactly what's in the filling but they were the best ones I've had anywhere. The sauce that comes with them is a little sweet but compliments them well. We also got 2 orders of garlic naan bread and they are huge pieces we could have gotten just 1. Taste very similar to garlic breadsticks. Highly recommend giving this place a try. read more

A very good family restaurant with great service. The falafel is VERY flavorful but also dry and dense. However, the samosas are light, crispy, and moist but lack flavor (without the sauces). The chicken kabob wrap is really good and gives you a chance to turn up the spice! Will definitely eat here again when I'm in the area. read more

This is a new Indian food restaurant located in a strip mall full of some of my favorite eateries. Being that it is located in a strip mall, there are tons of parking available in the lot that it shares with the other businesses in the mall. It is so brand new that they do not have a permanent sign up and the inside is pretty bare. They have a couple of booths that you can dine at and there is a television playing Indian music. They offer dine-in, take out, and delivery (through one of the food delivery services). I was hungry so, I decided to dine-in. They serve wings traditional and Indian pizza, as well as Greek dishes such as shawarma, and falafel. Of course they have Indian food such as tandoori chicken, chicken tikka, and fish pakoda. I got the tandoori chicken with a side of french fries. It took about 15 minutes for me to get my food. It was made fresh. The fries were ok. They were battered, but a few of them were hard and slightly overcooked. The chicken was good. It was placed on a bed of lettuce and onions. It was not the best that I have had, but it was far from the worst. read more

Came here on a whim during off hours. I ordered the saag paneer with a chapati. This was the first time the saag paneer ever tasted different after the first taste or two compared to the many, many others I've had. That being said, it was delicious with lots of paneer. First of all, I worked in restaurants for years, several different types of cuisine, casual and fine dining. Not tooting my own horn, just saying I've been exposed to tons of food I wouldn't have otherwise. This place is phenomenal. Excellent service, kind folks, and just absolutely wonderful food. I've had probably half the menu, and it's all amazing. Can't recommend this place enough. The prices are also phenomenal. You can't go wrong! The prices are great for what you get. Portions are fantastic. All the curries are phenomenal. I recommend trying something aside from the typical tikka masala or butter chicken, if that's all you've had as far as curries go, unless you want to give them a try on a pizza. The Chicken Karahi is something to behold. The saag of any type are amazing. But what I can't get enough of is the Chicken Doner/Shawarma, it's like shawarma if shawarma was made with chicken tandoori. Fantastic. The lamb doner is wonderful too, after all it's the namesake! Their Naan bread is fantastic too. You really can't go wrong. This place even turned my 70 year old father, who's not super quick to try new things, into an Indian food fanatic! This spot is more suited for take out. The inside of the restaurant is small, but the menu is a blend of middle eastern and Indian and is definitely robust at heart! I got a Groupon ad for this place and couldn't pass it up. My husband and I ordered samosoas, a paneer pizza, naan, and butter chicken. Everything came out hot and had good flavor. The samosas were crisp and came with tasty sauces, the pizza had a nice crust on it and the right amount of toppings. The chicken itself wasn't amazing, the texture seemed a little off, but the sauce was perfect! Besides a small serving of rice, which was fine given the amount of other food we had, portions were generous and we had lots of leftovers that heated well. read more

Have been seeing this place on doordash for past few weeks and pics looked promising. Have certainly been burned from the "doordash menu and pic" appearance before, especially with Indian cuisine, but not this time! Ordered some standards of chicken Tikka masala, tadka dal, and chili chicken with chapati and garlic Naan. All of it fantastic! High quality white meat chicken in the chicken dishes which is always a concern with trying new places. The food reminds me of my old all time favorite Indian restaurant that closed years ago from bloomington indiana called Bombay Cafe (miss them dearly). So fresh, well spiced and balanced, delicious food! Surprisingly, my favorite dish was the dal. Accompanied with side of rice would be great on its own where normally I like it as an accompaniment. My two minor "complaints" were the limited rice included with meals, as ordered three entrees and got only one rice which was only half pint worth. Will definitely order extra rice next time. Secondly, the spice levels relatively weak. Ordered two of the dishes "spicy" and did not notice any spice to speak of from a "hot" spice standpoint. Nonetheless, the quality up there with top Indian joints in city which largely on other side of town. read more

I don't know my way around Greenwood so I searched for a place to eat by rating and Spicy Doner came up. The exterior is pretty informal but I liked what I saw on the online menu so I went for it. To sum up I got a lamb shawarma on a pita, fries and garlic naan. And it was Delicious! They say the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. Well I keep ordering shawarma everywhere I go and being disappointed...until now. That shawarma is cravable. It comes with hot sauce that is no joke. But it's spicy with flavor so I enjoyed it. The restaurant is family owned/operated and they said the pitas and naan are all house made. I ate my pita so fast I didn't get a picture. But I'll be back so I'll get that pic eventually. read more

The place is a great example of home style Indian food. From the time we entered to the time we left after a finger licking meal,,,, the experience was a reminder of food as it should be cooked - simple but so flavorful that you aren't going to look around before you lick that last bit off your fingers. The service was quick, the ambiance simple, clean and friendly. You can dine in or pick up to go. We had the goat masala with tandoor roti and a chicken shawarma pita. They also ask you for the spice level - mild, medium, hot. We had the hot, and it was lesser than a Thai level 5, but does make you feel it and we enjoyed that. Wow! Wow! Wow! If you like Indian food, you MUST try this place. I didn't even know they were there until I saw them in Doordash one night. We have ordered from them four times since and it's always delicious. My husband gets butter chicken with a medium spice level. They use chicken breast, which I wish they'd use thigh meat, but my husband said it's still tender and flavorful. I do ask them to cut it up smaller because otherwise it comes in larger chunks, but that's just our preference. Today I decided to try the curry chicken because they use boneless thigh meat. I also ordered it medium. Let me tell you, it was fantastic! The amount of spices in the sauce was amazing and had my sinuses cleared out. I took a closeup picture to show the beautiful sauce. The meat was very tender and cooked to perfection. I will definitely be ordering the curry again! The naan bread is just ordinary garlic naan. Nothing super special about it. The samosas must be homemade because they have some Indian cheese in the middle and I've never seen that in any of the many samosas I've tried. It was a nice little addition. The spice level is good and the shell was sooo flaky and tasty. We did order an Indian salad for my daughter. The menu says lettuce, onions, and tomatoes only. I asked for Italian dressing in the side. The salad came with some kind of dressing on it, the lettuce was soggy, and it had cucumbers. My daughter is allergic to cucumbers, so, unfortunately, we had to toss it. I did call and the person who answered the phone was so nice and said to let him know next time and they will give me a credit for it. Great customer service! One thing I would like to see them have is mango chutney. I had to have my husband stop at the store on the way to get some. I can't tell you how the actual restaurant is inside. This trip I was looking for something I had never tried at an Indian restaurant before. I went with the Lemon Spicy Chicken, garlic Naan, and the "gotta have" Mango Lasi. Not remotely disappointed outside of wishing it was twice the size. VERY lemony and the sauce was perfect for dipping the Naan. It comes with rice that was perfectly seasoned and cooked. Just had this for the first time, and it is simply put, a must stop place. Sooo good. Again, only been once so I can't personally speak to everything. On my visit got some takeout if a falafel on pita and some French fries. First, French fries. These were delicious. For us fry connoisseurs, you won't be disappointed. On to the main course for me, the falafel on pita. Definitely up there with one of the better falafels in Indianapolis. What I like was they had it fitted into the pita and surrounded so was a nice handheld that wasn't a mess. They had the option of having it over rice and I might try that next time with some pita on the side to get best of both worlds. Based off my experience today, can't wait to go back to try it again. The chicken shawarma caught my eye for a future visit as did the Indian Pizzas. They have regular pizzas too if have the less adventurous with you. If on the southside, make a visit.
