There is a lot of open ground between the rows of slips giving you a sense of open space. There is another campground section in the back where the boat ramp is with some space to park your vehicles with boat trailers. The facilities are well maintained. For example, the site directly across from me has a brand new picnic table which are more expensive than your average table since the entire frame is made from tubular metal to ward off termites. Each gender has three separate shower rooms available to them. Each room is lockable and comes with a toilet, a sink vanity, and a very large shower stall. The rooms are spacious so that parents can help their young children. There two sets of washers and dryers in that same centrally located building for the front campground. The rear campground has their own building with restrooms and showers. The dump station has a hand soap dispenser which is the first time I've seen that at a public campground. I camped in slip #26 which is located at the end of the row and has partial shade over half the slip all day long. The end of the row is next to the park boundary and on the other side is an old cemetery which makes for a quiet area buffer from any residences. After my first weekend, almost everyone else checked out and I had my row to myself. Located within the park is the historical Old Mill House Museum but tours were not available (mid June 2023) as they were currently doing repair work. There is a swamp trail boardwalk available for walking/hiking with periodic benches and a river view at one point. They have provided playground equipment and swings for the children. There are about 80 RV slips and all have water and power hook ups. There a half dozen or so with sewer hook ups. There is also a large tent camping area with no power hook ups. There are plenty of restaurants and grocery stores within just a few miles of the park in both Madisonville and Mandeville.

Our toddler has severe allergies and I am pregnant...so our concerns were warranted. Upon reporting the issues, front desk was not apologetic or seem to take the comments seriously...therefore we are disappointed considering the rental was $1150 for 3 nights and would recommend overall improvements in cleanliness.

You couldn't get to the basement on the side or to the hookups without standing in water. The roads were fairly easy to navigate but many people parked out in the road which made it difficult to maneuver in the RV when leaving.

One stopped in front of our truck and sat there for 5 minutes. The police said they are just coon hunters and come there every night rounding up their dogs and through the park is their only way in since the other side of the park is hunting land owned by the same people. Also, they own TWO casinos you have to drive through their lots to even get into the trailer park. Yes.. I said TRAILER PARK! It's a literal trailer park with over half the park being permanent residents who roam around and help themselves to trespassing through your RV spot to get to the lake that I'm pretty sure has zero fish. Six hours and not a bite. We have talked to two travelers who left out early. One forfeited quite a bit of money and had his lawn chairs stolen too. Also.. construction starts at 4 am so all you hear is tractors and beeping once the coon hounds finally quiet down. The sheriff said this goes on seven days a week. And the few "cabins" they have are tiny and used by maintenance to stay or someone who's been gambling and compt a room for the night. They're are maybe 4 other campers here at the moment and they all seem upset at the false advertisement. This is not a tranquil woody area. The lake does look nice but weedy off shore fishing and no bites at all. You also need to watch for gators and snakes. I can't believe we are stuck here after paying for 10 days. We're on day 3 and I'm about to just eat the money and make the 12 hour trip home. I'll definitely post some pictures tomorrow. DO NOT COME HERE unless you're just coming to gamble and need a place to crash. Just not friendly overall and NO REFUNDS! Highly upsetting

My wife booked a few nights in Tickfaw state park, sight unseen, to be more or less in the vicinity of New Orleans, a plantation tour, and a swamp boat tour that we had booked months in advance. As it turned out, we actually enjoyed this state park stay more than our visit to New Orleans! The state park entrance is actually at the back of a neighborhood of sorts, on a narrow two-lane road that cuts away from the highway at a weird angle. Once inside the park proper, visitors are treated to beautiful swamps, complete with cypress trees, Spanish moss, and all the critters you would expect to find here. The campground we enjoyed had full hook ups, a small wooden deck, and a long back-in pad for our trailer. There was also a resident raccoon who kept us honest about locking things up at night, and securing coolers and food. Tickfaw state park features long boardwalks with railings, that afford visitors beautiful hikes in different parts of the park through different kinds of trees and plants. Unfortunately, many of these were still damaged in the summer of 2022 from the previous year's Hurricane Ida that blew through southern Louisiana and surrounding areas. The only trail that was not affected by this was the one without a boardwalk, so we enjoyed a hike through beautiful pines that went down to the river. Despite most of the trails being closed and damaged, we still enjoyed ourselves here, and had a good time. In the evening, I enjoyed casting topwater lures in on the cypress knees and trees, and caught & released several big bowfin... A fish that is sort of a cross between a catfish a bass, and a pit bull I suppose. I'm not sure when we will be back through this part of the world, but Tickfaw State Park is definitely a place that I would stay again: off the beaten path but close enough to where you want to be, peaceful and quiet, and the kind of southern serene that helps a SoCal guy like me to slow down and enjoy life a little bit.

The sites are decent size gravel back in with a cement pad and picnic table. There is a laundry mat and bathroom. Jeff (owner) is working on adding amenities as we speak. The people who stay here seem to be nice, everyone waves and smiles when you pass. There is plenty of grass and shade trees and pets are welcome on leash.

However: We got to New Orleans in the middle of a heat advisory. It was REALLY hot. We don't have A/C in our vehicle but are prepared to manage it...and we did. Lots of ice, fans, and we spent a lot of time during the day inside venues. The swimming pool at this place was HOT. Like, 95 degrees hot. I suppose, aside from actively cooling it, there's not much they can do about this, but I also know that N.O. is prone to being hot like this so I wouldn't expect the pool to be much of a perk. Having 24/7 ice machine was great. We definitely used that. There was a very nice australian couple at the spot next to us that we struck up a conversation with on our first night. They had a rental RV and the A/C was broken so they were struggling like we were and we had a good laugh about that. The next day, we came back and the gentleman came over and told me that the people that run the RV park had refused to let him put some water bottles in the freezer and that they had called the police on him so I shouldn't be alarmed if the police showed up. Sure enough the police came and the nice couple was trespassed off the property....because they had tried to put some water bottles in the freezer inside. They were not offered a refund. The officers were nice enough but....this seemed like a total dick move on the part of management. Everyone was VERY hot...like...flex a little, you know? You've also read other reviews so you know that they're right by the freeway. We knew this and were prepared. HOWEVER- there is also a SHRIMP PROCESSING PLANT on one side...right over the wall from our spot...and let me tell you, during a HEAT ADVISORY the last place you want to be is next to a SHRIMP PROCESSING PLANT. It smelled like low-tide and death. It was horrible. Also, the trucks began showing up at about 5:30 to load up on, presumably, shrimp. The workers were yelling at each other and revving their cars. We were woken by it most mornings. The place is for sale. There are signs up in every parking spot announcing that it's for sale. While the location is clean...they don't really seem to care much for the customers...like maybe they're already checked out? Another odd thing: the first morning that we were there (we got there Friday night so I'm talking Saturday morning) their grounds crew started mowing the lawn at 7am. Mowing and using the weed whacker right at our spot. There was no sleeping. They were literally mowing around our trailer. A foot away from my head. The next day, Sunday, after the nice australian couple had vacated their spot, there was a guy there weed-whacking that spot. Very early in the morning. So- we were woken early every morning by unneccesary noise and shrimpy fish stank. Short story: This place is super expensive. If we were in an RV we might have been happier, but...they are not going out of their way to help anyone in need, and in fact are making decisions that are not in the best interests of their guests. If you do something they don't like, for whaterver reason, they'll just boot your ass off the property and use NOPD to do it. I don't think I'd go back, but if you're looking for a spot close-ish to Bourbon Street and are in a sound-proof RV, it might not be so bad.

After a few minutes of going over the amenities we were escorted to our site and the gentleman stayed with us until we had parked and aligned with all the utilities and he verified that all our slide outs were clear of any of the trees. All the sites are pull-through sites which really makes it easy to get an early start the following morning. The site was very level and there was plenty of room to park our chase vehicle. The utilities and hookups are all well maintained and we had no issues. There are lots of things to do inside the campground although we chose just to get some steps in and visit the campground store before going to dinner in town and relax for the next leg of our trip. We were given some complimentary trinkets and souvenirs at the store of the surrounding area which was very nice of the staff and unexpected. This is definitely a place we would return to when traveling through the area everything here made for a great stay and we couldn't have asked for a better staff to interact with, this is definitely one of the top KOA's we've stayed at...
