I came here with some friends after a long day of hiking in Banff. We got the spicy chicken chettinad, spicy fish curry, and the eggplant bharta. They were all super flavorful and delicious. The chicken itself wasn't super flavorful (ie it wasn't marinated) and neither was the fish, but thankfully the curry was very flavorful. I really liked the fish curry flavor! Also, no bones in the fish, hooray! The eggplant was very good too; the eggplant was mushed like it was supposed to be, but it wasn't overly mushed and I could still taste the eggplant. There were green peas in it though which I found interesting. Service was pretty nonexistent as it was pretty difficult to flag down a waiter. We also got 2 garlic naan, 1 butter naan, and 1 rice. Their naan wasn't super great as it wasn't fluffy nor chewy; it was kind of just flat and overly crunchy. MUST EAT HERE Coming from NYC with access to a huge variety of great Indian food, my fiancee and I were slightly hesitant to try Indian Curry House (Banff doesnt seem like the hotbed for this cuisine). After two nights of mediocre pub fare at what was reviewed as some of the top establishments we thought we'd give it a try; it did not disappoint! It was by far some of the best Indian we've have had. First night: - Methi Mutter Malai Paneer (strong fenugreek/curry flavors, smooth texture, balanced throughout) - Lamb Madra (Solid cumin/tomato/curry, delicate/tender lamb) - Garlic Naan (real deal, not frozen, perfect char) Second night (returned the night after): - Methi Mutter Malai Paneer (superb, fresh Paneer - had to get it again) - Amritsari Chole (Simple dish but worth every last bite) - Garlic Naan Our only regret is that we didn't find it sooner and get to try everything on the menu. Service was mediocre at best. We placed an order lamb madras and vindoloo beef and garlic naan. They waiter did not ask how spicy we want our entrees to be. When we got the order it was not spicy so we asked for some chili or hot sauce. He returned with a couple of raw jalapeños. We clarified what we were looking for but he said they didn't have any. After visiting the hot springs, we were famished and had read reviews about Indian Curry House earlier when we were looking for a place for lunch. I was craving it, however, one of my schoolmates was saying that she wouldn't trust Indian food in Banff because there are so many good places in Calgary that it would be hard to meet expectations. It got a really good review from one of my Yelp friend so we went against her advice and decided to give it a try. I am glad we did! There wasn't a wait when we got there around prime dinner time and the server was extremely friendly, very accommodating. The food was amazing, you must eat here if you like Indian food and are in town. There are only a couple places in Portland-Metro area that make Dosas and they satisfy the craving but they aren't the best. I love Dosas, normally, I would opt for the classic Masala Dosa. Not only do I love Dosas but I love Butter Chicken. Guess what? They combined the two. Winning! Oh my god, that Naan was ridiculous good--soft with crispy edges, tasted like it was made from scratch. We were so sad that we didn't have the stomach to try more dishes. Wished we had discovered this place earlier so that we had the opportunity to eat there again before we left. The restaurant is hard to find. It's on the second floor, next to Boston Pizza. Food is surprisingly good. We gobbled down the Eggplant (don't recall the full name), and Butter Chicken was delicious as well. We also had basmati rice & garlic naan to complete the meal. Service is decent. The best Indian food I've ever had the dinning area with a View and everything you can imagine. We started with Mysore Masala Dosa which crape like outside and a potato inside, we asked for spicy. Excellent Indian food. The garlic naan was especially good. We had traditional tandoori chicken and chicken tikki Marsala. Loved it all.

We tried the papdi chaat appetizer, but it wasn't good. Not enough flavor and the "cake" was too hard. Also had Hyderabadi chicken Biryani, which was good. A little more meat would make it perfect. Best was the butter chicken with Naan. Highly recommend this for kids also. Very good. Mango Lassi was fantastic. Soda drinks come in large mugs with free refill, but entree should fill you up. We had keep remind our waitress to fill up our drinks. She kept forgetting out drinks. But otherwise customer service is good. read more

Overall a decent place to satisfy your "Indian Desi Food" craving. Service was Excellent as the waiters were very attentive and helpful. They were very accommodating. Price was a bit high in my opinion but I guess you get taxed for being a tourist. Now the food: 1. Goat curry - Curry itself was very good, however the bowl was filled with bones and fat with barely any meat. That's unacceptable for the amount you have to pay for the dish. I'm sure they would have addressed it if I would have brought it to Mgmt's' attention. I would order this dish again if I had to. 2. Egg Dhosa - Same issue as above, not enough egg. Mostly eating a crepe. Dish lacked substance. I would not order again. 3. Hyderabadi Chicken Biryani - Rice was good with light masala/spices but tasted a bit dated. Serves good Indian food and has a casual ambience. Service was prompt n wait staff very friendly n helpful. Place is conveniently located in center of Banff. I had Mysore masala dosa. It was flavorful, crisp n just the right amount of spiciness. Was served along with Sambhar n coconut chutney. They can however provide more chutneys to make this dish even more appetizing. I've had Indian food everywhere all over the world! (Except India hahaha). And I looooove Indian food. And this was pretty fantastics! The naan bread was fluffy and crispy. The papadums were beautiful cut into 4s and fried to perfection. The butter chicken and Tikka masala was tasting like it was made for the royal family. Great food (as judged by a guy who grew up eating Indian food). Not sure what happened on the nights people complained about service, but we had great, friendly, fast service. Great dal makhani! Ate here last year and this year and similar experience. Prices are Banffy (slightly higher than you get in the big smoke), but not ridiculous (I've paid way more in Toronto and Ottawa and Montreal and Vancouver!). Highly recommended! read more

We came her after a morning hike up Johnston canyon. We were warmly greeted and seated right away. The smells in the restaurant made our tummies rumble. We ordered the Mongolian fish curry, chicken mixed vegetable curry, biryani rice and garlic nan. It was perfect for two hungry girls. The fish curry was so good and had a nice kick it. Great Indian food! Enjoyed their vegetarian curries, garlic naan, and samosas. I had the vegetable korma and was pleasantly surprised that it had a good mix of fresh vegetables including squash. All of the food was well spiced and tasted fresh. The location is nice too with windows looking over Banff. read more

The food was okay but the service was absolutely horrible! Worst ever! Our server never bothered to show up after seating us. When we complained to a different server she conveniently said that since you are sitting at the back of the restaurant, we generally forget and made a snide comment right after. To top it off we didn't get the entire order either. Needless to say we are never coming back! read more

Mediocre food and bad service. We had one server take our orders and never came back to see us again except to throw us our bill....which we quickly had to yell and tell him to stop and removed the drinks and a food item we asked for but never received. Good Indian preps but the dosas definitely are a standout! More of a South Indian bent to the menu but all the usual suspects should be available. The place is tight, and when we visited, kind of hot. The service is pretty basic - they will seat you, take your order and then disappear for a while. Then after food comes eventually no one comes to check. You get done ask for a mango lassi, no action for a while. After a couple of reminders, the drink arrives. This is unfortunately true of many Indian restaurants across the continent. Food will be good to great but service poor to fair. Finding delicious indian food in Banff was completely unexpected but such a welcome surprise! We had the butter chicken which was cooked well and had a good amount of spice for everyone in our group (mild - med). Raita and garlic naan were also delicious. Would have loved to have tried more but we unfortunately weren't that hungry! Servers were attentive and polite. Ambiance is calm and quiet enough to carry on a good conversation. Indian curry house is located in the heart of Banff town and the chances are that you would not miss it if you are driving through the town. The place is upstairs and shares the common entrance with a pizzeria. The place has ample dining space, near with light decor and Bollywood music playing in the background. It has a bar too. Coming back to the food, the menu has select vegetarian and meats from Indian subcontinent both north and south. It has dosa and idly, chicken chettinad from south, Amritsari chholey dal makhani and chicken dishes from north. And also a few choices for appetizers. I ordered ajwaini paneer tikka(barbequed cottage cheese) and dal makhani(butter lentils), yeah I went all veg) along with garlic naans. Paneer tikka had a hint of ajwain (carrom seeds) and a mustard flavor following it. Paneer was done nicely and was appealing. Dal makhani, yes, despite the reddish color that is my personal dislike, but truth is it may be due to tomato purée ratio that is used in its preparation, in conclusion was really good that you don't often find in restaurants located in tourist destination, just the right spice mix and flavor, not to mention the quantity was amazingly good. The garlic naans were perfectly baked without any residual butter and were crisp. Only thing, it's a little on the pricier side, which might be because of the destination itself. I wanted to avoid Indian food tonight and was itching for a non Indian place. Glad I made that choice tonight. read more
