We had takeout and literally all the pizzas were so burnt that they were inedible. My family was shocked that they even served this to us. They probably didn't pay attention because we were a takeout order. I don't know about the dine in experience, but I don't recommend buying takeout from this place. Walk don't run!!! I would like to preface this review by saying I wasn't craving pizza. My group had their hearts set on it, so we popped into pizzeria Sophia. All 4 of us left raving about it. If you're looking for authentic Italian (or honestly just a really fresh, good meal) in Banff, look no further. We split the Caesar salad, arancini, nduju pizza, Margherita pizza, and rigatoni a la vodka. Everything was phenomenal. The pasta was a little spicier than we expected, but fortunately I love spice and we were splitting so it was great. The Nduju pizza was a crowd favorite. The flavors balanced each other perfectly. We also split a bottle of wine (all of the wine is Italian), and it was perfect. Duncan did a FANTASTIC job walking us through the menu, pointing us in the right direction, and taking care of us throughout the night. This is a very cute pizza place in downtown Banff. The pizza was pretty good with a fluffy crust and nice sauce with quality pepperoni. I also ordered the Cesar, which I was not impressed with. I like my Cesar with a little crunch and this salad lacked that. There was also way too much dressing on the salad which made it very hard to eat. The service was okay, when we entered the restaurant it was not that busy and they sat us right by these people who knew the chefs but weren't customers and they were very loud and kept invading our space - I found it an odd choice since the restaurant was empty. I am willing to give this shop another try - but I will only get pizza this time! Happy eating! read more

Food was great, service not so much. Came here expecting a 4.8 star experience, with that said the pizza is very good and authentic to Neapolitan style. However when it comes to service it was more than disappointing. My gf who is celiac made it very clear from the begging to our waitress that everything she ordered must be gluten free. Waitress understood and gave recommendation about food accommodations and was very assuring. She ordered a bolognese pasta and I got a margarita pizza+ pepperoni (which somehow ended up costing 7$ extra). Our food came out and my pizza was completely wrong, which I was fine with, mistakes happen. Waitress came back and understood that's she had put it in wrong and took the pizza away offering to bring a new one out. After this my gf realized that her pasta did not seem gluten free at all, so again we called the waitress over and she said she "had to go check with the kitchen" to see if it was gluten free. That was interesting considering the noodles looked completely different and the waitress served it (probably) knowing it was not gluten free. By this time we had already put a large dent in the pasta which she then also took away from us half eaten, saying she would come back with the correct dish. Eventually we both got our tasty meals but of course she didn't come to give us the check for considerable time while giving checks to other tables who got there and finished their meals well after us. The bill was over 100$ with no drinks or deserts and no compensation for our time or money. My gf wasn't feeling well after this experience (gluten consumption) and although the food was good this was an extreme let down from a restaurant which such high ratings in banf, they should be holding theirselves to higher standards. We were very respectful about all the miscommunication and will still be returning for the great pizza but this was not a good experience for either of us. read more

Yummy!!! We had pizza the night before, but it fell a little short so we were still craving pizza. Sophia's was so good. I like how they didn't cut the pizza like how they do it in Italy, but they still gave scissors. Great dough, classic Italian style. We got the nduja, but the meat was super salty. Starving after a long day of hiking and expecting the usual mediocre touristy food options, we were pleasantly surprised by the quality pizza Pizzeria Sophia offers. We opted to sit outside to enjoy the view. While the menu includes some pasta options, we focused on the pizzas. These Neapolitan style pizzas are about personal sized, we ordered the Nduja (5/5), Margarita (3/5), and Pepperoni (4/5), and a Caesar salad (5/5). The undercarriage of the pizzas were thin, soft and chewy and the crust was perfectly airy, the only downside was some portion of the undercarriage was slightly burnt. The refreshing Caesar salad came with real anchovies and house sauce. They actually provided scissors for each pizza which was a nice touch. I would definitely recommend this place! read more

Located in downtown Banff as one of the street level restaurants. We sat outside since it was very pleasant. I honestly didn't expect a good pizzeria in the touristy portion of Banff but was pleasantly surprised. We ordered a Caesar salad (surprisingly good, and came with real anchovies and a house dressing, 4/5) to start. We split three pizza's; a margherita (3.5/5), a pepperoni (4.5/5), and a nduja (4.5/5). Really solid dough and pizza crust and the tomato sauce was a good quality sauce. Only complaint is that the bottom was slightly overdone on some portions of the pizza. Pretty solid Italian food, most known for their pizza. We did try the Nduja aka spicy pork sausage pizza. We thought the pizza was tasty but a little salty. I've had a lot of pizza in my day around Orange County, San Diego, and Los Angeles. While I'm no expert, I can safely say this is one of the best pizzas I've ever had. Their pepperoni pizza with the garlic confit is out of this world. The Cesar Salad is excellent as well. We loved it so much that we went twice in the week we stayed in Banff.
