My wife and I always wanted to be "regulars" at a neighborhood bar and grill. For us, the Indian Mound Cafe is that place. Owners Shiela and Julie took a chance nearly 7 years ago and took over the much maligned Indian Mound. They were an instant success. The formula? Great food, great service, and great value. The burger of the month is sure to please, and the homemade soups bring us back even in the heat of the summer. The menu is small but the servings are big. If you're looking for a great non pretentious burger, the Mound is where you should be. Friday nights, they have fish, not just during Lent, and some of the best gumbo in town. Get there early to make sure it doesn't sell out. Did I mention the wings? Forget those corporate places. The Mound has the best in town. While it is a bar and grill, it truly is a family place, too. We've seen so many children grow up in front of our eyes, including the owners' kids. Stopped in for lunch during wing week. I love this neighborhood bar. They did not disappoint with the wings. I got the spicy garlic and they have a good amount of heat. Nice and crispy. This is a local favorite and now I know why. The chicken wings! The wings are a good size with a perfect crisp, all their sauces are killer, and they're certainly the best bang for buck you can find. Honestly came in thinking this was just a small town restaurant with potentially decent food. I WAS WRONG. IT IS AMAZING. The perfect dive bar. If we lived in the neighborhood, we'd walk here for sure. The staff is always friendly and the atmosphere feels like your best friend's house. We got carry out here for wing week. The wings were nice and crispy. We opted for the "wheel of sauce" so that we could try all of their sauces. You're supposed to get seven sauces with that, somehow we only received five, but still a fun way to try all the options. My husband and I decided to dine here, hoping to find a winner, but we were left completely disappointed. The food was very expensive for what it was, each wing was $1.50 a piece. They were dried out and just tasted like grease. The burger that my husband got it had no seasoning and my chicken salad... The bagged salad kits at the store taste better. The only food that was good were the side items which were the onion rings. Our server was absent most of the time, so I had to do a piece of gum because I never received a refill on my water. We met a relative at Indian Mound for Wing Week. We hadn't been there in awhile, and I had forgotten how good their food was. Between 3 of us, we ordered 4 different types of their wings. I had been to The Mound before for drinks but had never had a meal there. My husband, son and I went super early today right around 5 and not only was the food just delicious, the service and atmosphere was fantastic. Extremely warm and friendly staff. What an awesome burger! The temperature, taste, fixins', bun and quality were ALL on point! Hard to find in one burger. Do not sleep on this place (for burgers). Definitely an old-school spot that's been around for decades. Great parking and three separate spaces to enjoy food. There is also an outdoor courtyard if you want to eat outside with a beautiful retaining wall. Norwood seriously has some dynamite burger spots! It must be something in the water. What a find in Norwood! I started coming here for trivia when Molly Malone's Pleasant Ridge burned down. It's a relatively small space, but man, it's great! The food is super satisfying and extremely reasonably priced. I'm a personal fan of the chicken tenders with fries, and always get it with a side of BBQ sauce. My hubby's a fan of the wings. They have a few different sauces for it, but he also likes the BBQ sauce. The pasta salad is a bit oily, but holy moly it's good!! They've got a good assortment of beers on tap an in bottles/cans. There are also quite a few screens, in case you want to catch the game. The staff is also super friendly and helpful. I'm such a fan! Trivia's originally what brought me there, but the chicken fingers are turning me into a regular. 5 stars, easily! read more

First impression, pretty cozy and laid back environment. Final impression? Waste of a lunch date. We're quickly greeted and told to seat ourselves. Our server grabbed our drink order then shortly after took our food order. My boyfriend and I both got turkey sandwiches, side of mayo. He asked for a small or "brave" portion of chicken pot pie soup and I had asked for a large or "warrior" portion of the chili, I asked for them to "mound it" aka adding cheese and bacon. We were served our soups first, the server let me know that the handle was hot for my chili because she just microwaved it. Unfortunately our soups were the same size despite what we asked for, and sadly there was no cheese or bacon on my chili. We then shortly after were given our sandwiches, no mayo, got the whole bottle of Hellmann's mayo after asking for it a second time, weird but whatever. Our sandwiches were supposed to come with a pickle or pickles slices, no pickles for us. And the sandwiches were incredibly subpar, two patches of lettuce and a tiny tomato, super depressing. The food really tasted like if you were babysitting a young child and they wanted to cook for you. 100% don't recommend. read more

I like that they call this place a cafe...it gives it a much better profile than if they just called it a bar. Unfortunately, bar is what it is...complete with the typical fried bar food. Yeah, they have sandwiches, but vegetarians beware...there's nothing here resembling a vegetable, unless it is deep fried. I'd never heard of this place until a friend had a birthday celebration here, so I can't really rate the service, because a big group seated outside is never a measure of typical service. I will say, however, that the bartenders/servers looked less than thrilled to have to take care of us...but they only brought food out to us from orders we'd had to place inside. My friend even had to take the caps off the beer bottles she ordered at the bar...they wouldn't even open them for her! I'm surprised we didn't have to bus our own tables. As far as the food goes, it was okay...your typical fried food...although they seemed to have a lot of choices, as not everywhere has the fried mushrooms. The french fries were okay...I've had worse. All-in-all, it was an average experience at best. Since I don't typically hang out in Norwood, I will probably never be back. If the food had been amazing or the service for accommodating or friendly, my decision might be different. It's definitely a "meh" experience. read more

I love this place! I just recently moved to Norwood and wanted to find some good neighborhood spots to visit and get a beer and some food. I've been to Quatman's but I visited Indian Mound the first time this week. It is a classic neighborhood cafe with friendly faces (shout out to Sheila!) that make you feel like a regular (which I definitely want to become), some great beers, and the burger of the month which was amazing (bacon jam, blue cheese and hot sauce). The burger was juicy (not dry at all) and the pasta salad was very good - simple and light with bow tie pasta, tomatoes, thousand island dressing, and celery. I can't wait to go back and try their wings and the different sauces they have - they even have a sauce wheel where you can try all of their sauces. It looks small right when you walk in but they have 4 different seating areas. 3 in the front that are divided by the bar and a wall, and then a patio in the back. Sheila was telling us they host different events their like football fantasy drafts, baby shower, graduations, bdays, etc. It's a fun spot! I can't wait to go back! read more

Poor service tonight. Walked in and got a table. Server walked by us without saying anything. 2 people came in after us and sat down. The same server clearly knew them at took their drink orders. Walked around us still without acknowledging us. At this point it was at least 8-10 minutes and not one employee saw us. The server came back with the other tables drinks and proceeded to take their order. At the point we got up and walked out without anyone saying a word to us... I was in town last Friday and met some friends there. As usual, the food was awesome and Tony makes a mean Bloody Mary. We had the nicest server, Alex, who put up with a table full of silly, middle-aged women. We sat out on the back patio, and there was plenty of space in between tables. All the servers wore masks, and for those of us trying to keep our distance from others, they took us to the patio thru a empty side room. We couldn't get past the busy signal, so my husband went to their place to put in our take-out order. When he arrived home, the order was completely screwed up!!!! All we ordered was 2 bacon cheeseburgers, onions on the side, and a small order of fries. We didn't get any fries and the onions were on the sandwiches. So, I tried to call them and the phone line was still "busy", for over an hour and a half. I have tried repeatedly to call them but their phone is still busy!!! I want a refund for my order and I intend to get it. I work hard for a living and our Friday night take-out is considered a "treat".
