Surgery check-in went quickly and the wait time for my surgical nurse was only 5 minutes. She was very pleasant and reassuring. Everyone I dealt with was so kind and very friendly. The nurses and doctors explained everything before it happened and made the experience less stressful. Unfortunately I had a small issue during surgery requiring my stay to turn into an overnight hospital stay. My hospital nurses were nice but a little overprotective, rules...they had to follow. My stay was uneventful and I was released the following evening which went smoothly and fairly quickly. I highly recommend the Pre-Op team at St. Vincent. The Pre-Op visit, labs taken care of, and knowing exactly where I needed to go day of surgery certainly relieved some of the anxiety.

Another Doctor at Goodman Campbell said that all of the big cases were given to Dr. Horn. He had a 10-1/2 hour surgery, with rods and screws placed in almost all of his lower back. My husband came out of that surgery with no pain at all, even though he was in terrific pain before. Dr. Horn said that he had a very high tolerance for pain. But even so, 7 of Dr. Horn's team came to the room throughout his stay of 4 days to see this guy with no pain after that huge surgery. You could tell that all of them respected Dr. Horn immensely. He refused all pain medication until the nurses finally persuaded him because they explained to him that they needed to stay ahead of the pain. (What pain? LOL) He came home and put the pain pills in the cabinet. He has since had 2 other surgeries done by Dr. Horn on different parts of his spine, plus carpal tunnel surgery. I recently had ACDF surgery on my neck - July 21, 2022. I too had no pain. In fact, the relief was immediate! Dr. Horn has always been patient, kind, and friendly. After my post-op visit, he asked if I had any questions for him. He has always been on time, and never seems to be in a hurry to get rid of us. Several friends and family members have asked for his info so that they could make an appt. with him, even though we are 3 hours away. (Further for some family members.) He is not surgery-happy. By the 3rd reschedule we had had enough and go figure he wasn't in surgery and was able to keep the appt. I normally do not leave reviews but I've had to watch my husband suffer through the most excruciating pain since the end of November 2025 that intensified tenfold at the end of February. I took over the communications between the Drs office and my husband because he was too frustrated and miserable to deal with it. We were constantly calling the office for help ..... finally scheduled another MRI of cervical spine to "find out what was going on". Luckily I set up an account and read the report and had access to the images within a day of having the MRI. Almost 2 weeks later the NP calls me to tell me everything looks good and the Dr is referring him to pain management. I read the report and it clearly said he has a pinched nerve root just under C6..... she never once mentioned that until I asked about it. And then blew it off as if it was nothing. When we went to this surgeon my husband had pinched nerves in the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine that the Dr was aware of. I questioned her about this referral and called her out on the fact this surgeon was just pushing him off to pain management instead of actually trying to help him find the problem and fix it. My husband has no desire to be on any opioid to mask the pain. He wants to find the problem; fix the problem. Needless to say I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE FOR ANYONE! The office staff was FANTASTIC! The surgeon Shannon McKenna was the absolute worst doctor I have ever interacted with. Before the surgery we did not have any kind of explanation of what to expect for the day of surgery, the aftercare, the process for afterwards whether or not he will have physical therapy, how long the recovery is, nothing. See you this day this time have a good day. We had to ask them about physical therapy during the follow up appt and were told we could do it if we wanted to. We are now 6 months out and my husband hasn't been able to return to work for 9 months. He struggles to take deep breathes, moves just right and his body locks up, wakes up in pain, troubles moving his neck, laughing can stop him in his tracks. NO ONE SHOULD HAVE TO LIVE LIKE THIS! No respectable Doctor would wash their hands of someone who is so obviously in severe pain that they just can't take anymore. No Dr McKenna refers him to pain management and dismisses him as a patient "due to being confrontational" - which is a joke because they haven't even dealt with him since May! So what is he hiding From? Only time will tell as we get into the new doctors to find out. I highly recommend to NOT see this surgeon if you have any need to visit this place!

We learned that the spine hospital only hires staff that has a lot of experience with spine surgery. They have the most state of the art equipment and the facility is immaculate. Everyone on staff loves their job and it comes through the way they treat their patients. If you need spine surgery, consider asking your doctor if they work out of this hospital. Insurance covers them the same as any other hospital.

I finally got in, we sat down &went through everything, I wasn't super comfortable, but I figured I would go ahead and get the epidural shot anyway because I was in excruciating pain & needed it. To get a little personal, I have anxiety when it comes to any medical procedures and I made the doctors aware of the situation so they suggested I get sedation. A week and a half later I finally get in to have my shot done. It was hotter than Hades in that office & was even hotter once you got back in the patient area. The bed they put me in was baking in the sun. It had to be nearly 80° and then they put a warm blanket on me. I sit down and my anxiety rampant. My blood pressure was high. My heart rate was high, and I had a Slightly elevated temperature, which are all symptoms of anxiety. They took my vitals every five minutes in a crowded room with constant beeping a blood pressure cuff going off every minute and then constantly telling me to calm down. As the timer went off every five minutes, I anxiety got worse. My Elevated temperature did go down to 99.4. And if you read the CDC says a fever is considered anything over 100.4. The doctor, then rudely comes over and tells me he cannot continue with the procedure because I must have some sort of infection. And then told me it was not possible to have an elevated temperature from anxiety. I've experienced this numerous times before I have been told by different doctors that it is completely possible to have an elevated temperature due to my anxiety, and I have read numerous studies from medical journals as well as information from the CDC that very clearly states heightened anxiety can cause an increase in temperature. When I explain this, he basically told me I was crazy. It wasn't possible. I have an infection. I have to go home. The minute I get home I take my temperature and it is a cool 98.7°. Just like I said no fever no infection it was caused by my anxiety. I called the office afterwards and ask them if I could reschedule my procedure but with a different doctor and she told me it was against policy and they wouldn't let me do so. After complaining she said she would talk to her supervisor and get back to me by the end of the day or at least the next morning at the latest. No call yet. Unprofessional, beyond ridiculous and I would say never come here and never see this doctor again I'm a little worried that he doesn't know that any of that is actually possible. Makes you wonder what else this doctor doesn't know. I have been meaning to write this review of my surgery I did in early April 2024. I remember the…read moreday I got my surgery as if it was yesterday. I am very happy I chose Dr. Zachary NaPier for my surgery. Here's my background as a patient and the history. I am originally from Hawaii and have been an active water polo player throughout the years. I consider myself active and healthy. Over time I would complain of back problems and muscle spasms, but it wouldn't last more than a few days. I was only 34 years old at the time when I suddenly felt extreme shooting pains down my legs that prevented me from walking for several hours. I went to a local hospital to get a steroid injection and was recommended I go see a pain doctor. After x-rays and an MRI, I was diagnosed with nerve damage, and severe spinal spondylosis in my L4-L5 region. I was put on heavy pain medications, various muscle relaxants, nerve thinners and I went through too many Aleve and Tylenol which did not help. I could not walk comfortably for more than 10 minutes. I did not like this lifestyle and found my pain getting more severe to the point where I could not work, and lay bed ridden with pain on the worst days. I needed surgical care. The spinal surgeons in Hawaii wanted to shave my spinal bones from the back to alleviate pain. They told me this is a temporary fix that would destabilize my back, and water polo would be out of the question. They even suggested jogging with caution. I would be due for continuous back injections after the surgery. I reached out to both UCLA Spine Center and DISC's Newport office. Neither could get back to me timely, and said they had issues with contacting my insurance. Then I heard of Indiana Spine Center and spoke with Dr. Zachary NaPier. I've read his bio which included experience at Cedar Sinai, Harvard, and procedure expertise in ALIF, LLIF and PTP LIF procedures. To be honest, I haven't even heard of these procedures at length before meeting him. I spoke to one of Dr. NaPier's assistants named Nikki. She is very warm and helpful. She quickly got me on Dr. NaPier's calendar for a video call. There were times I emailed Nikki after work and she responded to me very quickly from Indiana. After I "beamed" my images to Dr. NaPier he got back to me with a permanent solution utilizing a PTP LIF. There were animations he would show for every step of the surgery, along with examples of patients similar to me with successful results. This was the first time a doctor recommended approaching my situation through the side which would minimize muscle damage and pain. I have a local PPO insurance plan here in Hawaii that is somewhat notorious for taking a while to approve procedures. For example, both my MRI's took over a month each to be approved. I decided to go in to my health insurance office in person and luckily had Dr. NaPier on the phone during this meeting. I was approved within 20 minutes! An amazing first impression. Within a week of being approved, I made it to Indiana and met Dr. NaPier's team for surgery. The assistants, nurses, nutritionists, rehabilitation team, were all 5/5 amazing. I got a little nervous as I have never done surgery in my life, but Dr. NaPier walked me through the process. My operation pictures looked great and I walked the day of surgery. Before writing this review, I wanted to give it proper time to heal. Since surgery I have had amazing sleep and can do activities even better than before. Just last month I hiked up diamond head and now have been playing in water polo tournaments and practices. I followed the rehabilitation program and feel stronger every day. I came hoping for a meaningful assessment and was instead shut down almost immediately, with verifiable clinical and factual inaccuracies. I forced him to cite his reference to support his conclusions. I asked that the citation be included in the clinical notes. He did not include it. After going back and requesting it, his office staff spoke to him and they provided a citation that undermines his own conclusions and documented findings. Don't expect an honest assessment. I have already placed a call to file a formal complaint. So far I have not received a response.

Still no one came. He finally took his wires out to them and asked where they wanted him to put them. He told them no one had been in there to check on him or see if he needed anything. The head nurse literally said "well it doesn't look like you're dying." Very sarcastic.ally. Their care and attitude were totally unacceptable and unprofessional. There was not even a chair to sit on. They saw me come in with a walker because I had my knee replaced. Had to just stand. They are very uncaring! We called an ambulance because he had a seizure. they were not eve going to address that issue until I pushed the issue. Never go there!!!!
