This restaurant just left my wife and daughter sitting for 90 minutes with no food, while the same food they ordered were served to people who had been there for as little as 15 minutes. Every time they asked about time they were told 5 more minutes usually with a repeat of the excuse that they were an employee short. They left other people waiting with online orders, many of whom also gave up and left. It isn't clear how who got food or who didn't was chosen. Random? Maybe. Friends of staff? Who knows. Point is I'd avoid this place like the plague. read more

They've done a fantastic job of handling the COVID-19 pandemic, and I've loved every take-out experience I've had with India's House throughout the past year (and, considering my love for Indian food, this has been a pretty frequent occurrence). I've discovered my new love for the malai kofta, which is essentially fried vegetable fritters in a lovely, creamy sauce, and am continuing to cultivate my adoration for mango lassi. Each entree can honestly last you 1-3 meals, depending on how much you eat, which is another factor that makes this stop a great deal. You can order online or via phone, and the waits are perfectly reasonable. The only downside is that if you plan to pick food up, you won't be able to wait inside, but that's a great opportunity to wander around downtown Columbia and explore. I had lunch here today and it was horrible. Chicken Tikka Marsala, garlic naan and a mango drink was $25+. Prices on menu did not match web prices. Chicken had zero flavor (sauce was good but the chicken was not). The garlic naan was about like biting off jerky and the rice was plain white rice with zero flavor. This review is my today's experience with the take out food - I have no idea of their buffet. Saw good reviews, stopped, ordered, paid over $100 but turned out a complete disappointment. Good service, worst place to have Indian food. Shrimp Korma had 6 medium sized shrimp. Butter chicken had 1 spoon of shredded chicken in it. Lamb curry was most likely the left over from the lunch buffet - 8 small chunks of lamb in the cold curry. Complete disgrace and shameful! read more

I used to visit this restaurant many times a few years ago. They had a fantastic lunch buffet at a very reasonable price. The service was excellent. You were immediately seated and water brought to your table. You would go pick up a plate fill it from the buffet and have a fantastic meal and a good experience. The restaurant was sold to another owner and you can only order off a menu, no buffet available even though their website still shows buffet the front of the restaurant on the window talks about and mentions buffet, but that doesn't exist. Not sure why they still try to advertise something that they don't have. i've eaten there once since they reopened. I was shocked by how small the portions were and how expensive the food is. The ambience is fine, but I'm afraid they won't be open very long because there was no one in the restaurant besides myself and my wife when we went. I'm afraid it's back to Kansas City or St. Louis for really good Indian food. What a shame Columbia doesn't have a great restaurant. read more

I cannot believe you can get good (Americanized) Indian food in Columbia for this price! It's a $10.99 lunch buffet every day, and the food is hot, plenty, and has a large variety. We went in on a Saturday at lunch time, and the place was packed. Seat yourself, but by the time we were leaving there was a little wait. The guy was really rude and said to leave a tip after charging me almost $30 for small portions of food. I was one person.... The Ambiance was okay. The interior looked old and a bit dirty. The food was limited and sub par. Mango lassis and chai tea were not included in the lunch buffet. It was super expensive ($9.17 including tax for a weekday, lunch buffet) and they opened late. I was there at 11 AM (opening time) and they didn't unlock the door until 11:08. Also, while I was eating, the woman manning the place sprayed air freshener! It kind of ruined my lunch since I could only smell the cheap flower smell. Wow, pretty sad to know I had the last good meal here ever last year. THIS PLACE IS UNDER NEW OWNERSHIP DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. Prices are now nearly 60% higher than before. I ordered 3 different entrees. My order was wrong for all three. It tasted like there was 1/4 of the spice and flavor as before. It seemed like they just dumped tomato paste and cream on chicken and called it a day. The tandoori chicken is absolutely horrible now, they are using cheaper gross cuts of meat. It was 80% bone and had zero flavor. It used to come with seasoning on a bed of grilled onions. Now it's just a lime and some greenery as if you got cheap Mexican food from a food stand. The naan was soggy and horrible. I hate to be this negative and dramatic. I ate here all the time with the old owners, it was some of the best food in Columbia for a good while. Sad to see it go. This place is so far off from what it was when the original owners were there. Overpriced, gross, and made me sick. read more

Waterered down food. Expensive high prices. Their biryani is a joke, i took it back and asked him if its biryani or fried rice and he was giving me attitude saying its same thing, biryani and fried rice same. This guy has no manners. If the food is not right, at-least own up to it. The take out containers of rice was half empty and cold. The paneer container was not full either. It seems like someone's left overs. DO NOT support this kind of business who doesn't know the meaning of indian food and no customer service. I tried places which served tasteless food but atleast the owner would own up to it and apologize or do something to make it right. The food is okay, not the best Indian I've had but not the worst either. I've only gotten take out so can't speak about the service inside the store, but the person who takes the phone orders and is there for payment is the same and leaves much to be desired. At our last experience when we were picking up, we heard the total and were about to inquire about adding on a mango lassi. In the brief pause between hearing the total and opening our mouths to ask while pulling out the card, we were shouted at "Pay me, pay me, pay me!" After one of my dad's business meetings, we went here for lunch on a quiet, rainy afternoon. He told me it was a good place to eat, and he was right! It was my first time trying Indian cuisine and I was definitely not disappointed. I don't remember the name of the host or the waiter we had, but both of them were very kind, especially the host. We had very engaging conversations with her, and she took care to check up on us in addition to going above and beyond in regard to service our whole stay. Upon my asking, both of those employees were also very helpful in showing me what was vegan on the menu. I settled on a tomato based curry dish with potatoes and peas called Aloo Matar. It was served with rice and was not bland in the least bit! It was also very filling and delicious with a piece of naan bread on the side. My dad opted for the lunch buffet, which he really enjoyed. Overall, I would highly recommend this place for anyone looking for good food and awesome service! read more

Don't order take out. They are slow slow slow. Every time I order it takes forever. Multiple times I've ordered take out or Uber and it's taken an hour or more for the order to be ready. Food is good but I'm done with this place. My poor Uber driver shows up 45 minutes after it's ordered and still has to wait 20 minutes to pick up. Un real. I can butcher my own meat, harvest my own vegetables and cook it all before my order will be ready. read more

This could be the Olive Garden of indian restaurants. Which is confusing because it's owned by a nice Indian woman. The staff is also nice but the food has been over-simplified and lacks the depth to reflect cultural pride. It's "give them what the'll eat" cafeteria fare. Take the Chicken Biryani (see picture). It's on lump of color on a plate. There could have been curry leaves, mint or coriander leaves on it. There could have been golden raisins or a clove or cinnamon stick. Perhaps I'm being too harsh. I think what bothers me is that when I go to a Tex-Mex restaurant, I know it's Tex-mex. I had higher hopes for a place that wasn't gringo or corporate owned. If you're hungry, eat here.
