This place is a standard once a week visit during my business trip to Columbia. But today my co-workers (one of whom has never tried Indian food before) wanted to try Indian and we stopped here for dinner. I ordered samosa which is a staple indian appetizer and wanted my co-workers to try - Which they loved. And one person tried the Mulligatawny soup and he loved it so much. We then ordered breads (Garlic naan and paneer kulcha) and ordered chicken, makhni (my staple at every indian restaurant), chicken vindahloo, chicken khadai and fish tikka masala. Every non-indian person in that table, ordered the food spicy at a scale of 10, with 1 being mild and 10 being CRAZY (Like going to the Gastroenterology specialist...lol But i ordered my chicken makhni Mild and i loved it. Overall good food, very nice service, and friendly staff. Like I always do, i will get my indian fix 1/ week when i visit Columbia even in the future. read more

We were actually pleasantly surprised we would find decent Indian food in MO. Other than the food being a bit heavy on the salt we were pretty happy with the food. You can chose the spice level from 1-10. Lamb Karahi - both their Karahi and vindaloo sauces are very similar in flavor but seasoning is very good. Lamb was not gamey and spice level was good at 8. Beef vindaloo - I were concerned that the beef chunks would be tough but it was really tender Chicken tandoori - this was our least favorite. The chicken was well seasoned but overcooked and pretty dry. They also only use chicken legs. I fell in love with the Vegetable Korma the instant I tried it. It's creamy and flavorful, with added heat/spice if you want, but I like it kind of middle of the spectrum to let the vegetables and creamy sauce speak for itself. The Vegetarian plate for 2 is great for a treat for my husband and I. You get a nice variety and plenty for a late lunch or early supper. The vegetable curry is so good, so much flavor and you get a very generous amount. It's incredible as left overs....that is if I am not tempted to eat it all at one sitting! The rice is amazing, watch out for the cardamon pods and whole cloves:) The Naan is so good I would have it everyday if I lived closer!! The servers are always friendly, if not understated, but then again that's just being polite. You won't go without water, trust me. The lunch buffet isn't my favorite time of day. I find they put less vegetables in the curry and korma. The Naan is always awesome and fresh, however some of the other items aren't as popular so they don't get refreshed as often through the lunch hour, just like any other buffet place. The coffee is really tasty and it's a cozy enough place to sit a while after supper. It could definitely use an updated look, style, refurbish EVERYTHING, but that's secondary to the lovely food we have every time we go there. I tried the chicken vindaloo which is what I always get at Indian restaurants. It was more of a tomato flavor and really needed acid/vinegar. The garlic naan I found to be average as well. I used to eat here before the stupid Covid and I loved it! A year later went and invited some colleagues. There was not more buffett, portions were smaller, still great flavor, prices high and forced to leave a tip: 18%, 20%. Great servers, cozy little place. Located downtown so parking is never fun. We ordered a sampler appetizer and wished the server would have explained what was on it. The chicken was the only meat I recognized, it's a tad intimidating to eat meat of an unknown orgin. Some of the sampler meat was extremely tough. I ordered the chicken tikka masala and it was awesome. My daughter ordered the Bharta eggplant entree and it was pretty tasty. The bill was around 50 which I thought was a little high for two people. Every time I've been to India's House I always leave wishing I'd gone to Taj Mahal instead. My take on their food is that it's Indian food for white people. Everything I've tasted is far too mild and under seasoned (the few times I've been, I always opt for the lunch buffet, which features a pretty wide variety), nothing ever quite pleases my palate. Stopped into India's House for lunch. They do some dinner specials, including a vegetarian one, which include a dessert and tea. This sounded awesome, but they weren't able to do a vegan one, so I settled for a channa masala. They do have a few (but not tons) of vegan options. India's Rasoi is not the best restaurant Indian food I've had. This might be Lahore Karahi or Shalimar in SF, in my humble opinion. (Thank you, yelp.) But it's also far from the worst, which would be Royal Taj, in SC. Vom. It's always empty and quiet every time I visit - maybe 3 - 4 other tables are filled, and the rest of the booths sit quietly with expertly folded pink napkins in water goblets. Chicken tikka masala and the vegetarian dishes are good bets here. The lamb korma, while sweet and tasty, gets a little heavy. And the mango lassis appear to be made with some kind of powder mix. I always detect a slightly artificial taste, but I still gulp it down. Last night I went all out and got the lamb korma, garlic naan, and a mango lassi. (Afterwards I fell into a coma.)The bill came out to $17.21 before tip, which is a little on the expensive side....thus, minus one star. The quality of the food is four stars, but the service is two stars and that's being generous, so it averages to three. I had a ground meat shish kebab and my wife had the lamb in tikki masala. Her lamb was tender and tikki masala was second to none. Absolutely the best I ever had. My shish kebab was very good--that of it that there was. Therein is the first issue. The portions are barely adequate. I'm not expecting McDonald's super sized value meals, but I doubt there was more than a few ounces of meat on the plate. No veggies except for some raw onions. Claire's lamb was similarly sized. Maybe 3 ounces in about a cup of sauce. We shared what appeared to be a one cup helping of rice and that was it, for two full entrees. Service was slow and disjointed. Claire's food arrived about five minutes before mine. Just a pet peeve of mine, but not managing to bring out both dinners at the same time when there are only a half dozen people in the place speaks of very poor kitchen control. When driving from the east coast to the west coast a friend of mine recommended we stop here for lunch. I wish we lived in Columbia so we could frequent here more often. I have been to quite a few Indian restaurants in the Denver Metro area and NONE of them compare to this place. The flavor was amazing, the food was cooked to perfection and the owner was very attentive and friendly. Before eating we asked if we could look at the buffet to make sure we wanted to stay. My 9 year old who had stated she did not want Indian food asked if we could stay after looking at the buffet. I love it, she tried almost everything they had and loved it. I loved how much variety was on the buffet. My 7 year old ate till he felt like he was going to explode and my husband (the pickiest of the bunch) loved it. I would definitely want to stop in here again on one of our road trips. I have not had Indian food that good in a very long time. read more

I went for dinner -- not the buffet, so I cannot speak to it. Nonetheless, I am puzzled by a number of the reviews. First of all, while the dishes were mild (per our request), the flavors in the food were strong, with subtle spices. The folks in the kitchen know how to cook, and do not cover up their goofs with mass quantities of curry Second, the menu is rather unique. I have never seen spinach stuffed paratha bed before. It was excellent. (The nan bread was good as well.) The rice is spiced with cardamon -- excellent. The three dishes we all had were very good. I would go again. Easily. And congratulations to the owners for producing such a high quality of product in a spot where I imagine it can be hard to get authentic ingredients. read more

Best Indian restaurant in Columbia, Missouri! This exact restaurant was where I was first introduced to Indian Food. For my 21st birthday back in 2006. Traveled down all the way from Lincoln, Nebraska to visit my sister who was getting her major at The University of Missouri in Columbia, who has been here many times. Since then, I have looked for Indian restaurants and dined in for either the buffets or non-buffets. I thought I had reviewed this restaurant, but I don't even see a listing, so I guess I didn't. It look's like the number is the same as India's Rosol though. The name on the sign outside actually says India's house. The food is pretty decent. The navratan korma is good and the samosas, well fried food is usually good. The price is okay, not bad, no great specials or anything though. The service is good, and the location is in the middle of the district on Broadway, so that's a plus. read more

The interior of India's House is dated and unimpressive, with peeling wallpaper and dusty light fixtures. However, do not let this fool you. The food was actually quite good, although on the mild side for Indian fare. I ordered the chicken tikka masala, which was very good, although next time I would order it at a higher heat level. They offer their dishes on a 1-10 scale of spice, but my level 7 chicken tikka was more mild than I would have expected. When I want Indian food, I want something closer to authentic than what this restaurant provides. Typical of so many long-established ethnic restaurants, especially those in the center of the country, this one has tempered the spices for the non-adventurous midwestern taste buds. The people of the establishment are friendly and the dishes look fine, but alas, that "stand up and slap you across the face" spice I look for just wasn't there. India's House serves up pretty average Indian fare, the location is excellent and the staff is quite friendly. Subtract one star for not serving beer/wine and another for the plastic flowers on the tables and very average food. They do a buffet during the afternoon and a regular dinner menu at night. The buffet is usually pretty good, not mind blowing or anything though. Also, If you're lucky, you might get to watch a transient have a conversation with himself on the sidewalk while you eat your chicken vindaloo. PS: Buy the garlic naan! read more
