Rented an RV in Lisbon We rented an RV from Indie Campers in Lisbon, expecting a vehicle that was fit for purpose. Unfortunately, the refrigerator was not operational from the outset, despite this being one of the most essential features of an RV. This should have been identified and repaired before the vehicle was handed over to us. Travelling through remote areas in scorching summer temperatures without a working refrigerator made it impossible to safely store food, drinks, or other perishables. As a result, the experience we paid for was severely compromised, causing unnecessary stress, inconvenience, and disruption throughout our trip. We contacted Indie Campers via WhatsApp as soon as it became apparent that the refrigerator was not working. Unfortunately, the support we received was limited to basic troubleshooting instructions, none of which resolved the issue. No practical solution, replacement vehicle, or meaningful assistance was offered, leaving us to deal with the consequences ourselves. The situation became so impractical that we had no choice but to cut our holiday short and return the RV earlier than planned. This not only ruined a significant part of our trip but also resulted in substantial additional expenses, including changes to our travel arrangements and other unexpected costs. It is unacceptable that a company renting self-contained campervans would fail to carry out basic pre-rental inspections to ensure essential equipment is functioning properly. Equally disappointing was the lack of effective customer support when the fault was reported. A simple quality check before handing over the vehicle--or a prompt and appropriate response once the problem was reported--could have prevented this entire situation. We expected a safe, fully operational RV and instead received a vehicle that was not fit for the purpose for which it was rented. This experience reflects very poorly on Indie Campers' maintenance standards, quality control, and customer service. **If you're Music Festival Camping, read this review!!!** Ok...Now that my trip is done, I'm SO GLAD that I did not experience what any of the VAST MAJORITY of poor reviews were saying about Indie Campers. Not going to lie...I was SCARED. I did not read reviews before we booked. The price was so good compared to other RV companies and RV sharing sites. We planned on using the RV to camp at a music festival (EDC), and that alone limited our options. Why we booked Indie Campers: -Cheaper price compared to other RV sites & RV share sites -Festival friendly - We camped at EDC. -Unlimited Miles - We drove from the Bay Area to Las Vegas and back -Large RV enough to fit 6 adults -The video on the website featuring the RV looked modern, spacious, and comfortable. After booking the RV, I think I read almost every single Yelp review on this page and nearly had a heart attack. Other review sites and travel forums also had equally bad reviews and experiences. Google had a great rating, but upon closer inspection, it was clearly full of fake and bot reviews... ugh. My friend did the pickup in Union City, and thankfully, that went well. We received the RV we booked - a massive Class A "Comfort Space Select" that was newly built in February and only had 3k miles on it. Essentially brand new! We did not purchase any add-ons, but they provided a couple of essentials. A sponge and dish soap, hand soap, and a roll of TP. Plus a small bin of kitchen supplies such as pans, utensils, cups, etc. Since we brought our own, we ended up not using theirs, but it was a nice added touch. We drove to Vegas without a hitch. It was a large 60-gallon gas tank, and the odometer tells us how many miles we have left in our tank. They provided hoses so we could do our own water refill and black/grey water removal. Although it said it could "sleep 8," it was more like 5 adults. 2 people in the Queen bed in the bedroom, 1 person on the bed over the cab (which was smaller than a full), 1 short person on the convertible dinette table, and 1 (even shorter) person on the convertible couch. The fridge was full-sized and fit all our food for the weekend. The freezer was deep enough to fit everything, too. We cooked on the gas burners just fine. TONS of storage space, and even with 6 adults, we had plenty of room for our bags to store. I was very surprised! We kept large luggage, camp chairs, and a folding table in the back storage area, and smaller bags and duffels inside. We didn't use the shower as we didn't want to fill up our waste tank too fast (It was only around 35 gallons). But both sinks had good pressure, and the toilet was fine for basic trips. There were digital meters showing water and sewage tank levels, as well as battery levels. The driver's seat was very comfortable. Both drivers in our group said that the RV handling was not the easiest, but manageable once you get used to it. Overall, it was a very comfortable, clean RV. However, we will not book again. Here's why: Since it is so new, RVs are being built with the generator separate from the RV. This is to easily repair or replace it if it's broken, compared to if it's built into the RV. So this RV came with a separate generator that was tiny and only held less than 2 gallons of gas. Unfortunately, the generator does NOT feed from the main gas tank, so whenever the generator ran out of gas (which ran the AC while we were parked), we had to refill from a gas can or find a gas station. Unfortunately, EDC does not allow you to bring outside gas in (they confiscated our Jerry Can grr!), and we even brought a hose to siphon from the main tank, but the hose wasn't long enough! We were forced to purchase the very expensive gas on site at $25/gallon (!!!), and because it is 100 degrees in Vegas, it was necessary to survive. The 2 gallons ran the AC for about 4.5 hours, so we spent $100/day on gas just to run the generator. Next time, we will book an RV with a built-in generator that feeds off the main gas tank, so we do not have to worry about this. We returned the RV in good condition and held our breath, but thankfully got our entire deposit back. Zero stars. Rented an RV for a one way trip from San Diego to Atlanta. Paid for early pickup, however upon arrival they were not ready for me and the vehicle was filthy (blood on the toilet seat, dirty table, dirty kitchen, floor dirty, you name it). Everything was broken on the vehicle. The electric panel was hanging off the wall, windshield wipers didn't work, rubber trim was falling off, front door was broken and rattled while driving, generator didn't work (a known problem as there was an email in the glove box from 9 months earlier to the company regarding this and other safety concerns from a previous customer), side window broken, backup generator they gave me leaked gasoline, tires didn't have enough air, was 5 months overdue for an oil change and low on oil (we had to add ourselves), latch locks to the storage broken, table broke in the down position, fridge didn't work (all food spoiled and medication had to be thrown out), toilet black water was given to us with a full tank (we never used to the toilets but were informed of this by the Atlanta staff at drop off), AC didn't work (had to end up getting hotels the whole time), seats were ripped, found loose screws, light was broken. Basically, it was a nightmare, a safety hazard, and a liability.... but they don't care. They take your money and only have chat bots to address your "concerns". Then 10 days after I dropped the vehicle off, I received a notice for $331 in damages charges (they then later changed it to $346). I asked what for and to itemize the damages as I did not cause any, however they have not been able to provide me with any. Do NOT use this scam company!!! Instead of enjoying our vacation, we spent a considerable amount of time dealing with repeated mechanical failures, safety concerns, unexpected expenses, and stress caused by the RV provided by Indie Campers. Unfortunately, the vehicle delivered to us did not match the quality or specifications that were promised. 1. Wrong Motorhome Delivered I reserved and paid for a larger motorhome but was provided with a 21-foot RV, which was not the vehicle I booked. Traveling with seven family members in a significantly smaller RV affected the comfort and quality of our vacation. I request compensation for the difference between the motorhome reserved and the one delivered. 2. Air Conditioning Failure The air conditioning failed completely during our trip. We just rented a camper from them and from the first one being there was a 55 gal ( not even maybe a 25 gal ) then the main event was when we found weed in the cabinet above the door and ( we had our kids with us ) the other things were the ac in the back which we were not told at pickup that we had to purchase the generator would not work and we specifically told them we were going to cross country from California to Florida through the desert in 100+ degrees heat, so right now we are at we have to spend so much extra money on gas and the AC in the back we couldn't keep it on then on the way back the ABS lights come on the engine light comes on and the road stabilizers come on so that tells me that they did not do their due diligence in between customers and make sure all the mechanics were probably tuned and made sure was ready for the next person. read more

They changed my RV to an "upgrade" model 3 days before we were supposed to pick it up, so refunding for any reasonable amount was impossible if I wanted to cancel. Why put me through the booking process if what I booked isn't available? The bigger RV gets far less gas mileage and is extremely detrimental to our trip because we would be more restricted on where we could park for plans we have already booked. It is NOT an upgrade. It's like booking a sports car and getting a bus. I paid for something I'm not getting. In any other business, they would refund. Booking online is very deceptive, I believe that they bet on most people to go through it not reading between all the lines, which makes it easier to enter into sketchy contracts that release all rights of the customer. I wasn't aware of the over $2,000 deposit I would have to pay at the time of picking up the vehicle. I tried to call, chat and email customer service to refund my vehicle, as it might be bigger but only adds costs to my trip due to us not being able to visit our planned destinations, having to change reservations last minute which charged penalties, and the extra gas cost. The bigger RV gets 8mpg, something I had to research, as it is not readily available on their site. The customer services is rude and unhelpful. The response time is incredibly slow. The man I talked to on the phone was clearly reading off a script and wouldn't help at all with a possible refund, even if only partial. He kept repeating the same phrases word for word. This is a trip I saved up for and now I have lost a little over $3,000. I'd rather have the vehicle be made unavailable entirely so I could get a refund. Business practices are incredibly deceptive. Thank you Indie Campers for ruining our trip and causing stress when I am supposed to be looking forward to it. Indie Campers is literally a SCAM. They sold us on an RV with a non-working internal generator, non-cooling Ac Unit, and an Inop water heater. They gave me a complete run-around over their stupid chat bot about roadside assistance. They wouldn't coordinate any of the roadside assistance and made ME coordinate all of the repairs. This is one of the worst businesses I've ever had to deal with. First, upon pickup, I couldn't test out most features in the walk through because the gas tank was empty, the tires were super low (40 range for 70-80 psi) and the propane tank was empty. There's no way to test anything using the generator or propane when both are empty of fuel. I was told I'd have to go fill these up myself. I wasted hours of a trip trying to get support for this RV and the process from booking through post returning has been a nightmare. Also noting I have an RV, I know how they work, and I know how to work in them. Upon trying to fill up the propane tank multiple times I learned it was broken, The tires had to be filled at a speciality location which took us to 4 different places A side panel of the RV covering electric wiring fell off on the highway within 2 hours of driving and it was clearly held up by duct tape The refrigerator didn't work and it smelled horrible after we tried to keep it on, we never even had any food in there Many of the drawers didn't work and were already broken leaving them unusable The bed above the cab was unusable because there is no support under the mattress causing the mattress to cave down The coolant was leaking from the sewer tank and we couldn't stop it - was suggested to keep hot water pump on but the propane was broken and empty so we couldn't use hot water, we were left leaving pollution dripping out of the tank into a bucket that we had to clean up What's app support was not helpful at all, took forever to get back to us and provided us with useless solutions I tried to send an escalation and we haven't heard back, it's been a week . There is literally no number to call, and every time you try to follow up with someone on support it's someone new, they don't read the last message, and you have to start all over again. None of their advice was helpful , we went on an trip outside of a city and they kept trying to route us back to a city for mechanic services on a Friday night when everything was closed for I was emailed about getting a late return charge added because I didn't return the rv in time and I did ALSO why are reviews similar to mine hidden ? Indie Campers - A DAY BEFORE!!!!!!!! - RV Rental Near Me - Union City, California

RV which was the cheapest they rent, a sprinter van, cost thousands including the premium protection. When we arrived at pick up location, the camper was disgusting. The nice kid that went over the RV with us apologized the entire time and offered to clean it but qualified the offer as he never failed to point out it would be right in front of us. So we declined as we felt bad and we were on a tight schedule. We did however ask about the other sprinter RV vans that were in the lot, because they were all much newer then the one we were given. However, we were told that we couldn't switch to one of them. He did say that because we opted to pay for the premium protection that one we get on the road we can call customer service and get a different RV to meet us and switch to it then. However, this was not the case. We soon found out that the lack of cleanliness was the least of the issues with the RV we were given. Here is a sampling of the more serious difficiencies: 1. The RV WAS UNREGISTERED: the tag on the license plate was from the year before and the reg in the glove box matched the tag. The state DMV website also showed that it had not been renewed. 2. About 100 miles into our journey the engine light came on. It was intermittent but reappeared repeatedly. More infuriating to us: we later found out they knew about it because they listed it in the pre inspection paperwork. 3. The employee made us lie on the pre inspection questionnaire: stating that we should answer in the affirmative when asked if gas tank was full when it was empty and "NO" to "is the water tank empty." -- The water tank was full of sulfuric water that smelled of eggs. 4. The sewer tank was full of both pee and poop from the previous renters. We found this out after finding that pee had splashed out of the toilet and onto the shower floor from the first leg of our journey. 5. Every time we went to start the camper the steering lock would be engaged and the first time it took us 2 hours to figure out what was wrong with it because we were not warned about this and it totally bricks the RV. The key inserts into ignition but does not allow it to turn and the steering wheel locks up. To get it to disengage you must wiggle both the wheel and the ignition at the same time but gently. 6. all of the window coverings and the entire pop up tent were covered in mold. Some spores were white some were black. Additionally, all of the bug nets were either ripped or the zippers were completely broken. 7. The RV's propane system which runs the heater and water heater was inoperable. We started our journey by driving the opposite direction to fill it. We paid to fill the tank completely, and then found out later that night, a night that got down to below freezing, that it didn't work. We also never made use of the shower because there was no hot water available to us. This is just some of the issues we faced. And although we paid for the premium protection plan, that promises to garuntee an RV replacement if something is wrong with the one you were given, it was never offered. The only solution was to drive 5 hours out of the way to see if a mechanic could get the light to go away. This was offered 5 days after our initial complaint. Do yourself a favor and rent from someone else. Even if it is more expensive. Even if the camper has a a huge billboard of a family on the side, etc. You will be doing your future self a huge favor. read more

Dino rented us an RV without working Air Conditioning, a chipped windshield right in the drivers line of sight, a leaking shower, broken blinds, water hookup hose with a missing rubber gasket (leaks too much for connecting city water at pressure) and many other issues. My wife and I were looking for an RV for Burning Man (our first time) and Indie Campers was one of the few places that would rent an RV for it. But the reviews of Indie were horrible. Still, we felt like we had little choice. What I came to realize is that three things are true about Indie Campers: 1) They are really a European company that has not adapted to the U.S. market very well (9,34$ instead of an even $10.00 is a tiny example). 2) Their systems (both onsite and virtual, front-end and back office) are really quite poor, and 3) They actually have a lot of resources and are legitimate even if somewhat incompetent. Our full experience is beyond the scope of this review, but a few highlights: the Union City depot appears to be mainly a group of hourly workers that are expected to do everything as needed from customer service to check out. They are always referring to their phones because Indie doesn't believe in paper (very European) nor terminals; after all, everyone has a phone. QR codes abound. Your arrival appears to trigger a lot of their processes such as they are. Once they've checked out the rig they have for you, you can walk through it and ask questions. ("Why is this curtain missing? Why does the black water tank show full [it wasn't]? Why is there a Bodum press pot for coffee and no mugs or kettle?") If you are impatient when you check in, you'll drive yourself crazy. And don't expect a "certified ready to go" checklist (or if there is, it is on their phones, invisible to you, and probably not entirely accurate). Once you're there, they will work to get you going with the stuff you ordered. But if they don't have it, something is broken, etc., they'll try, but don't forget these are hourly workers. Our RV was just over a year old with about 33,000 miles on it. It had had a hard life but was in generally decent shape as it should have been for being so new. Nothing was wrong that we couldn't live with. (Thor Four Winds 21Z, MSRP $127,400, plus solar; IC leases them.) We didn't end up going to Burning Man, but to Big Sur. I found out from the Union City manager that they had over 500 RVs at Burning Man. He showed me on their tracking app (on his phone of course). There was a QR code for the RV manual. Where we were in Big Sur didn't have service (unlike most anywhere in Europe), so it took me a while to figure out some things (I had seen a briefing video [on my phone, of course] before we left but it was pretty high level. I was worried that the one star reviews were true and would be our experience as well. They were true, I'm sure, but I'm glad to say our experience was different. If you use Indie Campers, you have a decent shot at a reasonable experience overall. read more

The first time we were able to even try using it was nearly 4 hours later at the campground, once hooked up -- and it immediately overflowed and was unusable. On top of that, the water system didn't work, so we couldn't shower, cook, or use the RV for its basic purpose. Even though I paid for early pick-up at 9:30am, we didn't get the RV until after 11:00am, and I was still charged for early pick-up and late drop-off -- despite returning the RV a full day early because the trip had to be cut short. My family was forced to abandon the RV, stay in hotels at our own expense, and what should have been a special birthday trip for my children turned into stress and disappointment. At drop-off, the RV was inspected and no damages were noted, but afterward the report was altered to add false charges. Staff also made discriminatory remarks about the prior renters -- completely unprofessional and offensive. Good luck trying to get anywhere with anyone; it's WhatsApp, endless scripted emails and "escalations" with no results. I have video documentation proving all of this. Would give 0 stars if I could. The customer service and dishonesty of this company are some of the worst I've ever come across. The week leading up to my reservation we started getting prompts to complete a "mandatory" online check in process. The online check in had a bug all week and we were unable to even load the check in page. I had to spend over 3 hours with their online chat to confirm that there was a bug and that we wouldn't be penalized for not checking in. The chat usually had a response time of 10-15 minutes and if I didn't respond to their agents within a minute they would then close the chat saying "looks like you're not here" so I had to start over multiple times. On the day of our pick up we drove to Redwood City because the Indiecamper app told us their office was there. When we arrived, there was just a piece of paper saying the office had moved a 30 minute drive across the Bay to Union City. When we then called customer service to say this was horrible communication and dishonest to call this "San Francisco pickup" they said they had sent one email notifying us of the address change and it didn't matter that their app (screenshot in this review) still said the pick up was in Redwood City and that it was not their fault for having inconsistent information. When we finally got to the office, we bumped into multiple other parties who had flown into SFO, paid for an uber to Redwood City, then had to pay for another uber to Union city because they encountered the same issue and had been told by indiecamper it was their fault as well. At this point, we decided it would be best to not continue with this company since we didn't trust that they wouldn't try to stick us with an unreasonable bill if something happened during the rental period and the staff there said we'd get at least a partial refund if we cancelled given the circumstances. We then submitted an email ticket to confirm this with the company headquarters and they took over 2 weeks to respond saying that we would get no refund even they had been dishonest with us throughout. Our rental of a motorhome from Indie Campers ended with a cost of €19,000 and a hellish vacation. This despite having purchased their highest "Premium Insurance". If that's not enough to deter you from doing business with these people, here's a detailed breakdown. We rented a Motorhome from Indie Campers with their full Premium Insurance, between 19/7-2/8/25. Be advised, THIS COMPANY'S INSURANCE IS AN ABSOLUTE SCAM! You will be led to believe you have purchased a comprehensive insurance. De facto you'll be driving without insurance, and YOU COULD BE LIABLE FOR THE COST OF THE ENTIRE RENTED VEHICLE. Their Premium Insurance (their highest-level insurance, which we took at a substantial extra cost) states "your excess will be limited to €199" - this is a blatant and misleading lie! Only on pickup of the vehicle we were given full access to the rental documentation: (At this point if you decide not to go ahead with the rental you will lose your booking fee) 1. The Rental Agreement - a 29,000-word document (in Italian I might add) 2. The Insurance document and T&C's - 5,000-words. 3. Indie Campers Specific T&C's -14,000-words. Buried within these documents are exclusions upon exclusions to the Insurance policy. These exclusions render your insurance and excess as none existent. Which is to say, you will be driving without insurance, and will be liable for the full damage costs from anything to practically everything! During pickup they demanded we block 500€ on the credit card for insurance purposes, given the excess was stated at 199€ we found that a bit odd but proceeded nonetheless. During a trip our campervan was involved in an accident and sustained some damage to the upper sleeper cabin. The Premium Insurance stated we were due to receive "road side assistance and a replacement vehicle".... We never received any roadside assistance nor a replacement vehicle! This despite lengthy WhatsApp correspondence with their Indie Campers HQ, who claimed they had no available replacement vehicles. Searches on their website revealed plenty of availability. We basically had to park the van for the remainder of the trip and our trip was over. This wasn't half our saga with this company. When returning the vehicle, they stated there is no insurance for this damage, the excess is irrelevant. We were handed a bill of 19,000€. Despite having blocked only 500€ on the AMEX CC at the time of the pickup, they somehow managed to access the card and take a sum of 17,000€ from our credit card. We have now started a dispute process over it. It is apparent this company's business strategy is to lure in customers with lower rental prices, mislead them to believe they are driving with a comprehensive insurance, and then pursuing the ones unfortunate enough to have had an accident with insane damage bills. DO YOURSELVES A FAVOR, AVOID INDIE CAMPERS AND THEIR INSURANCE SCAM! Rent anywhere else. read more

BEWARE RENTING FROM HERE!! READ THE REVIEWS AND BELIEVE THEM ALL!! ****This experience is currently active. We reserved a couple days before the trip. I've seen Indie Campers all over the world and figured they were legit. And, of course we purchased the Premium Insurance. The night before, I read some of the reviews and became concerned. On trip day, we arrived at our designated pick-up time. Only had to wait 1 1/2 hrs. That was good compared to things I'd read. We thought we had scored as our rental was a brand new motorhome. The 30ft. Pursuit 27xps. It looked clean, but got it home and there was dust everywhere. I don't think it was ever wiped down from when they received it. I had to clear all the dust out, but we were excited. We drove from San Francisco to Oregon. A few hrs. into our ride, we realized the A/C didn't work. A 14 hr. ride without A/C was awful. We rented the big motorhome so we could transport my disabled father. No A/C for him was not what we bargained for. As we got closer to Oregon and the sun went down, we tried the heat. We didn't have that either. That was the first of our issues. We also noticed the steering wheel seemed to have a lot of wiggle room. Getting ready for bed, my father got the big bed while my husband and I took the bunk. That's when we realized there was no ladder. No ladder meant no bunk. It gets better. Parked in OR for 4 days. That was great minus the uncomfortable sleeping arrangements. Husband on the couch and me on the table. Everything seemed to work fine. On the ride home, we were either freezing or excruciatingly hot. A few hrs. out, we noticed the brakes squeaking like crazy. This is where it starts to get really shady. I have to return the vehicle by myself. On my way to return it, another truck comes into my lane. To avoid them, I have to move over just a bit. Turns out, this RV is literally just under the max size before it's considered an oversized vehicle. Inching over just a bit where, unfortunately, there was a pole. I'm not sure if it was the pole that took out the side mirror and awning, or wires hanging off the pole that grabbed hold of the side mirror, or if the mirror took out the awning, but damage done. I immediately pull over and attempt to contact them. That's when I realize I can't contact the location. When we rented, I specifically asked the gentleman about this texting issue I read about and he clearly said do not worry about it. All you do is ask to speak to a representative and you'll get a human. WRONG. I followed his directions precisely and the human says to contact that dept. via What's App. She states clearly: that is the ONLY way to handle issues while on the road. WHAT'S APP? Who does this? First, understand the communication is sporadic and half-assed. I can ask a question, get a response right away then wait several hrs. for my next communication. Second, it's always a different person and they literally have no idea what they're talking about. They finally tell me to proceed to the depot for drop off. However, the RV wasn't safe to drive with one mirror and an awning half off. I waited, in the heat, for 4 hrs. until my husband finally came and drove us home. Not once did they ask if I was safe, needed a tow truck, etc. They sent me some forms to fill out for their insurance and boy, are they something. The forms are from the EUA, ask for the "Federal Vehicle Information" and have a section for my "supervisor" to fill out. I asked them for proper forms and they tell me to look in the glove box. I ask if I will find the proper forms there and no response. I go to look in the glove box when I realize there's no glove box. I completed their forms, but am still waiting to receive the proper paperwork for me to complete that will also allow me to include my insurance info. as a backup to the premium insurance I purchased. We also can't drop the RV off unless they're open. The next morning, I called AAA to get towed. Took awhile to find a truck able to tow us, I go to What's App and ask if I should have the RV taken to the shop instead of the depot to help things along. A couple hrs. later, they give me an address for a service center, but now it's going to be closed and they can only accept during working hrs. Now, we're going into day 2 of trying to return this RV. The tow truck goes to drop the RV off and the mechanic refuses to accept it. He says he told them he won't take it. The driver's calling me for the phone number to Indie Campers, but of course, I don't have one. I gave him their address and I'm currently sitting here hoping they were able to deliver it. I just recommend before renting from them that you know exactly what you're getting into as this mess has been the most chaotic and stressful experience with a rental company that I've ever had. I've rented all over the world, including RV's in Europe. I will never rent here again and highly suggest people think twice before doing so themselves. read more

I would warn anyone renting an RV for a vacation to stay away from Indie Campers. Unsafe RV, dirty everything, rude staff. 1. Windshield was cracked (and not a little bit) 2. Mattresses were dirty 3. Outside of the RV was filthy 4. Blinds were not functional 5. Windshield blind did not work at check in, had to be repaired on the spot, and it ended up not working again the day after 6. Hands free microphone was broken 7. The table was broken (screws are missing at the bottom and the table toppled on my son) 8. The steering wheel was not even aligned correctly I would like to add to this complaint how rude the staff was onsite, especially Eduardo whose attitude was completely unacceptable. Zero Stars. We rented a RV one year in advance for a National Park road trip from San Francisco to Seattle. We were given a RV with a flat tire, inoperative generator, dirty interior and exterior, mold in the bathroom. We paid for an early departure, we left three hours after we arrived for pickup. When we brought these issues to the attention of the manager Dino Scardino and Mohammed Alshafie, we were told to take the RV as is or cancel the reservation and loose 100% of the money. Zero help, zero compromise, zero solutions. They told us to pound sand. They already had all of our money. I refused to sign the contract because of all the issues. They forged my signature for the credit card deposit. DO NOT RENT ANYTHING FROM INDIE CAMPERS EVER. This is not an exaggeration. Let me start by saying we had a great week's experience in our rental camper van, driving from the Indie office in Redwood City to Yosemite and Pinnacles National Parks. Coordinating with Indie for the rental was a bit of a hassle at first, as they weren't super responsive online or over the phone. Once we arrived, the check-out took a lot longer than we expected, but we were able to grab lunch at a nearby restaurant. The onsite manager had just arrived from New York and was aware of past problems that he was trying to correct. The van we got could have had better maintenance, as the tires were well worn (and unevenly too) and the house batteries were in need of replacement. The van was easy to drive, we had hot water and heat and were able to cook our meals without any problems. We weren't looking for a hotel-on-wheels experience, so it all worked out fine in the end. With some better management and maintenance, we would be happy to rent from this location again. read more

TLDR: PLEASE PLEASE think about renting from IndieCampers before you do it. There are a lot of negative reviews that we ignored. Don't make our mistake. It is not worth it. 0/10 experience. If I could rate this lower, I would. I rented an RV from IndieCampers for January 4th to January 7th. It was our first time renting and my wife and I were super excited for the trip and our adventure. We talked about potentially purchasing/doing more RV trips in the future. How wrong we were... After 3 days with a camper from IndieCampers, we experienced nothing but problems: a bug infestation, empty gas container, broken gray water meter, and wasted time, money, and energy that completely ruined our vacation. On the night of Day 2, we arrived at our campsite at 10:45 pm. Once we turned on the lights and got ready for bed, we noticed that the walls, light, and ceiling were covered with HUNDREDS of drain flies and other bugs. I reached out to IndieCampers at that time and there only response/help provided was their recommendation that we purchase insecticide spray, clean all of the drains and clean the vehicle. Where am I supposed to get insecticide at 11pm at night?!?!? They stated that "this is the max we can assist you." No offer to provide an additional van(which is "supposedly" included in our upgraded insurance. No other offer of help. I stated this was unacceptable and asked to speak with a supervisor, which was denied. IndieCamper support then tried blaming this on us, stating "In New Zealand, it's quite common to encounter many flies during summer," and "it's likely they entered while the van was parked outdoors." Keep in mind, the hundreds of bugs in the vehicle were drain flies that did not appear until we began using the water in the camper van. Due to the bug infestation, we could not sleep in the vehicle and had to book and pay for separate accommodations which were luckily available at the campsite we stayed at. The next morning, I spent approx 2-3 hours cleaning out the vehicle to rid us of this infestation. I attempted to boil water to pour down both drains but the gas to our kitchen stove did not work. The control panel stated that the gas canister was likely empty. Due to these issues, we plugged both sinks for the remainder of the trip and did our best ventilating the bugs out of the vehicle. We were unable to use the shower, hot water, kitchenette, gas canister, windshield privacy shade was broken(which we clipped together using a hairclip) and were afraid of using the toilet since we were unable to confirm where the drain flies were coming from. This essentially rendered our RV useless to live in and we spent the remainder of our trip at campsites or in lodging. I have traveled to over 30 countries and this was by far the worst experience of my wife and I's travels. IndieCampers was not helpful in the slightest. 0/10. read more

The kept us here waiting for 2 hours when they knew that all the Metris vans they had were broken and that they weren't going to have it available until the next day!!! When we called them on their lie, they said "I was instructed to tell you that". We booked MONTHS ago and no one mentioned their vans were broken. No one mentioned that they wouldn't have anything today. We flew across the country and don't have a day to wait and now I'm sleeping on the ground for a week in a tent. These people are heartless scammers. Spend more money with another company because you can't even talk to a person to file a complaint. Complaints must be made via email. negligent act towards customer for not compensate missconduct It is my fourth time renting a van with Indivan. After my latest experience, I doubt I will use them again. I pick up the van on Saturday afternoon. I was given a van with an alarm indicating the oil level had exceeded the maximum during the check-in. I was told it was fine to operate the van; however, later that day, I contacted the assistant to confirm that no issues would affect the active alarm. The remote assistant required me to change the van's oil to avoid potential damage. The following Monday, I had to waste all day getting a mechanic to change the oil and filter on the van, and the remote assistance assured me that compensation would be applied due to the loss during my rent period. While I was providing the paperwork to the mechanic, I realised that the insurance policy on the van had expired several months earlier. After two more weeks of back-and-forth with complaints & incidents, the Team leader announced that no further compensation would be processed. Indievan reimbursed the mechanic's cost of replacing the oil a few days after submitting the invoice; however, no further compensation was provided for the negligent act and the lack of services provided by the company. Saying that a company not accepting its responsibility is unacceptable, I am considering legal action against the company for the damages incurred during the rental period. read more
