Drivers cab was in good condition. All equipment worked good. No rips. Manual was located behind driver's seat.

This was my third time renting from Cruise America. Several weeks before our rental date, I called their agent to make a change to my reservation. The agent was not only able to help me, but even gave me credit for promotion that was running now, but wasn't when I first booked. The pick up day went very well. The RV was ready as expected, and agent walked me through the various systems. Pick up took less than an hour. The RV had almost 90000 miles on it, so it wasn't new. Everything worked well, and some issues were to be expected, but nothing that ruined our vacation, or even warranted a call to customer service. I was 59 minutes late on the return date, and was not charged a late fee. After the inspection, I was presented with the revised bill for the additional miles, but that was it. Return also took less than an hour. Overall, a very good experience with this rental.

After reading all the bad reviews, a lot of which seem to be from other locations, I guess my advice is to insist on getting a newer vehicle and inspect everything before driving off. We had amazing customer service (shout out to Robbie in the Newark, CA office!) at pick-up. He was very informative and helpful with all kinds of tips and information. We were in and out quickly and even got to take off in our vehicle an hour early. The guy who showed us everything on the rv told us that the sensor in the black water (toilet) tank was not working right, it was empty but always showed at 1/3 full bc it likely had a piece of toilet paper blocking the sensor. That was fine, at least we knew about it. Also the propane tank always read emptier than it was even when it was full. The steering wheel also pulled to the left but it corrected itself when we put air in the tire. We explained these issues when checking it back in and the guys were very nice about it and didn't try to say it was our fault. The rv had about 20k miles and everything else was working great and nice and clean. We really enjoyed our road trip of about 1400 miles thru Oregon and the Northern California coast. Rv'ing is glamping in my opinion!! You roll up to your campsite, lock the doors and you're ready to go explore and have fun! No unloading and setting up for hours only to have to break it all down again. Just arrive and enjoy. Hungry? Double burner propane stove is ready to cook whatever you want. There's a microwave if you're lazy. 2 sinks, hot shower, comfy bed. Fridge and freezer with lots of room. We were eating ice cream in the middle of a forest! Yes, it's expensive to rent an rv, but if you're going on vacation and planning to spend time in nature, THIS IS IT FOLKS!!! I never want to camp like a peasant again!! My tips- Download Google maps so you have details when offline. You'd be surprised how little phone/ internet coverage America has outside of the cities. Look around inside the rv before buying supplies. We found a broom and cups, bowls and plates we didn't know about. Most things in the rv are run by propane. The generator is $3.50 per hour to run but that's only used for the microwave when you're not plugged into power. Make sure you feel/ hear the fridge door "click" into lock mode before driving off lol! Secure stuff before driving and put something under the microwave plate so it doesn't jiggle and make a lot of noise when moving. Also secure everything including the spare tire for a quieter smoother ride. Buy rainex for your windshield and windows and take this step for better visibility when driving. Your windows will get gross on the roads and this is a safety hazard. Have someone get out of the rv to help with parking bc there's no rear camera.

PLEASE READ IF CONSIDERING BUYING !!! So I bought from this location almost a year ago , when I tell you that this place is an absolute scam rip off artist it's horrible . So I bought an RV ( refurbished) and it has been issue after issue , I'm exhausted and SUPER disappointed that they would sale this to me with all the issues . So let's start from here , when I bought it both batteries ( coach battery & Engine battery ) was both over 4 years old , first time it got cold both died . $360 for both Next , complete water system in the coach failed , multiple water line breaks , Coach water pump was leaking in multiple locations , when investigated they didn't run the water lines correct and it looked as if they had the same issues prior $ 1700 RV has been kept in a indoor garage ,,, took it out for the first time in the rain to take a drive ,,, ALL 3 skylights ( over bed , over driver cabin bed & bathroom ALL leaking severely ). After investigating it was never siliconed correctly, they did a half a$$ job sealing it just to make it ready to go , it was an absolute mess on the roof , service person was amazed on how bad the job was ... $1200 First time using the gas , turned gas on and it was leaking , entire gas system needed to be replaced , turned it on and all I could smell was gas ,,, replaced everything $500 . We have put barley 1k miles on this thing and it is an absolute mess .... I wish I could speak to someone higher up but I'm sure they don't care .... I urge ANYONE looking for a used RV run for your life in the opposite direction from this place ...

I purchased a ~$200,000 Storyteller Overland van from La Mesa RV (Fremont), built on a…read moreMercedes-Benz Sprinter chassis, and this has been one of the most frustrating ownership experiences I've ever had. Even the purchase process should have been a warning sign. While finalizing paperwork, the finance manager at La Mesa RV openly acknowledged that issues often "fall through the cracks" between Mercedes and Storyteller, and then aggressively pushed an extended warranty--going so far as to say it was "stupid" not to buy it after spending this much on a van. At the time, it felt inappropriate. In hindsight, it feels like a clear warning of what was to come. From the very first drive home, I started getting battery warning lights. Within a month, the van broke down completely on a trip to Los Angeles and had to be towed after going into limp mode. I was told the battery was replaced and everything was fixed. It wasn't. Since then, the van has repeatedly failed to start, including being completely dead after sitting unused. I've now had to call Mercedes roadside assistance multiple times, most recently being told to let the engine run to recharge the battery--only for it to die again immediately after turning it off. At one point, even roadside support noted flickering interior lights suggesting deeper electrical issues. What's most frustrating is that none of this was disclosed upfront: * La Mesa RV never mentioned these known battery drain issues * Storyteller Overland never explained that the vehicle cannot sit unused for more than 1-2 weeks without requiring a battery tender or disconnect system * Mercedes-Benz has not taken ownership of diagnosing or resolving what now appears to be a systemic electrical problem Only AFTER I started digging did I hear from a Storyteller representative that these issues are widely known and tied to vans sitting for extended periods before sale. So let me summarize: * I paid ~$200K for a vehicle I cannot rely on * I've spent 20+ hours troubleshooting and coordinating service * I've had to tow it and call roadside assistance multiple times * I still do not have a functioning, dependable vehicle * And no one--not La Mesa RV, not Storyteller, not Mercedes--has taken responsibility or offered a real solution Instead, I've been bounced between companies, each implying it's someone else's problem. This feels like a system where the dealer sells it, the manufacturer builds it, Mercedes supplies the chassis--and when something goes wrong, nobody owns the outcome. At this point, I genuinely believe I was sold a defective vehicle without proper disclosure. If you're considering buying from La Mesa RV, a Storyteller Overland van, or anything built on a Mercedes Sprinter platform, do your homework on these battery and electrical issues first. I wanted this van for adventures with my family. Instead, it's been a time-consuming, expensive, and deeply disappointing experience.

From day one, David was genuinely friendly, extremely knowledgeable, and, most importantly not pushy at all. He worked with my family for months, patiently helping us narrow down the exact model that would truly fit our needs. We never once felt rushed or pressured, just supported and well advised. David went above and beyond, not only helping us choose the perfect RV, but also taking the time after the purchase to walk us through everything. Since this was our first RV, his hands-on training made a huge difference and gave us the confidence to actually enjoy owning it instead of being intimidated by it. On top of that, the entire La Mesa customer service team was fantastic, friendly, responsive, and clearly focused on making sure customers are taken care of. If you're looking to buy a Winnebago (or anything from La Mesa's massive inventory), David Jimenez is the person you want. We couldn't be happier with the experience and highly recommend him to anyone considering an RV. Cheers from Nick and Grace

The RV had to be ready to take me to San Diego where I will start my new job. As the inspection continued the number of mandatory safety and repair issues increased exponentially. I can honestly say they saved my life and probably the lives of everyone else on the road with me. This is no exaggeration. I am driving a 33000 pound vehicle. When you step on the brakes you need the vehicle to come to a complete stop safely. You want the lights to work, the electrical to work, the plumbing to work and the propane not to leak. Bay Area RV found and fixed so many crucial items that I would never have known about if it wasn't for them. Even though my total repair bill was significantly higher than I could ever have anticipated, I now have a safe , fully operational and beautiful RV that will last me for many years to come. I can't list all the details because they would be too numerous, but the number of times they have cut cost, discounted labor, and went above and beyond to work with their vendors and mine to get me the best possible price for the mandatory parts I needed is more than I think anyone else would have ever done for me. Even after I am down in San Diego I am going to drive that RV right back up here for any major work that needs to be done because I know it will be done right and with honor and with integrity. I can honestly say that they put me ahead of their own profits. My final bill was high but that is not their fault and it could have been much much worse if I had taken it to someone else. I don't want to exclude anyone on their amazing team but I do want to give a shout out to Alison and Alberto. You have made a friend and customer for life.
