Ok so it is a little sketchy, but my experience started out with a manager who is an older male, typical manager watching over girls at the front desk, balding and like tom cruise with big hands in tropical thunder, but in the end they did a pretty good job! The issue was that my RV wasn't clean in the bathroom on check out and the side door wouldn't lock during travel so we had the door open several times during the road trip which necessitated a bungee cord tie down. However, they cleaned it before leaving and they gave me a full day refund for the door not locking properly. It's kinda expensive for a 7 day rental but in the end it was a good experience other than the stress of the door flying open while traveling. The RV itself was good, not excellent, and it was fairly comfortable in the end. The gauges for gray and black tank won't read correctly even if you dump it, but overall it was a good trip! Would I do it again? Probably not because it is a lot of work drop off and pick up and there are some factors you will deal with during your experience. First time renting and using an RV and overall had a pleasant experience! It was a fantastic way to enjoy our visit to Yosemite national park instead of our normal tent camping. The kids loved sitting at the table (with seatbelts of course) while driving! My tip would be to check that everything functions before leaving the RV rental property. We only inspected the vehicle for damage and fill levels but didn't check that the amenities functioned. We didn't notice that the RV roof AC, water heater and half of the cabin electrical didn't work until we arrived at our campsite. But we still enjoyed the trip and using an RV. The staff was helpful and nice when we picked up and returned the RV. The location was easy to find, and you can see the location on the freeway. When we got to camp, and I took my shoes off in the RV, the floor was gross. I had to Clorox the floor and use soap and water 3 times, and it was not enough. Lucky we did not have other problems, but with a closer look, Cruise America needs to spend more time deep cleaning the vehicles before and after. I most likely won't rent for them again. read more

They will find any excuse to overcharge you and ruin your experience. - opened valve and a little water dropped on the floor. Tried charging my $100!! - fuel tank not at 3/4 exactly (even if it wasn't at pickup, $60 - propane shows almost full, but not full $25 And I had full insurance if not, who knows what they would try charging for. Add to it the aggressive attitude of the management. I've rented from Cruise america for 10yrs now and this is THE worst location and experience. The worse: my RV was given to me dirty - someone rode it to Burning man (found receipts in the glove compartment), they didn't bother cleaning it. While wheel alignment was dangerously off, water sensors broken, rear reverse sensors not working. This location thinks so short term: let me make the most of someone ONE time and lose them and every referral forever AFTER. What's worst? I emailed corporate and no response. This was my third time renting from Cruise America. Several weeks before our rental date, I called their agent to make a change to my reservation. The agent was not only able to help me, but even gave me credit for promotion that was running now, but wasn't when I first booked. The pick up day went very well. The RV was ready as expected, and agent walked me through the various systems. Pick up took less than an hour. The RV had almost 90000 miles on it, so it wasn't new. Everything worked well, and some issues were to be expected, but nothing that ruined our vacation, or even warranted a call to customer service. I was 59 minutes late on the return date, and was not charged a late fee. After the inspection, I was presented with the revised bill for the additional miles, but that was it. We had a very bad experience with cruise America. We rented a "large" RV for 6 nights. The pickup process was pretty straight forward and we were thinking everything was going great. We drove to our campsite which had full hook ups. The battery was not working properly, so even though we had electric hookups, it would die every night. This left my husband, 2 month old, and myself freezing every night. When we called after the first night, they spent over an hour on the phone with my husband trying to trouble shoot the problem. Nothing worked. They wanted us to remove the battery and get a new one at a local store. They could have easily sent out a repair truck which my husband asked them. They kept saying "we can't authorize that and will have to get a manager to." They ended up saying that they couldn't send a repair team out and that we have to run the RV every night for an hour before bed. This was very annoying and bothered nearby campers. Unfortunately it was our only option to have heat at night. This also cost quite a lot in gas. The RV itself is exactly what you would expect. Broken doors that opened and closed the entire drive, extremely uncomfortable bed, fridge that smelled bad. Also, the sensors on the grey and black water weren't working properly either so we had to empty those almost daily (we only used the toilet for pee and it said it was full on the second day). The grey water tank is super small. So don't expect to use the shower. When we returned the truck, they basically said they couldn't do anything about all the issues we had. My review is purely for the staff at the Newark location. They were amazing and very quick to process the rental when I picked it up. Took me thru the entire vehicle and how to turn things on and off, use the sensors, etc. I rented one of the smallest ones which was a good size for me and the dog, altho I was a little nervous driving such a big vehicle. My suggestion would be to rent your size for a few days to try it out first and see if it's something you're comfortable driving. Vehicle was in reasonable condition (being a rental with 80K miles on it) and I didn't have problems with any of the systems, but a hook was not attached and the cap on the table storage fell off a couple of times. Nothing big. Be aware that it takes a LONG time for the fridge to get cold if you are on propane, and I had to reset it a couple of times while using propane. Keep an eye on temps - it won't be as cold as your fridge at home. I brought a cooler which was handy to have. Return was easy and quick - really appreciate the staff at this location being friendly and efficient, including the manager Brian Benson. read more

First off the Newark, CA office hours suck! They limit their hours so you are literally forced to rent an extra day and take off work! Hours are 9am - 5pm? The daily rental in itself is inexpensive but you once you are in person picking up the RV they they start giving you all these extra charges for propane, mileage, waste dump and other charges. We had to make an appt to pick up our RV. We were told the earliest was 3pm! So we basically lost an entire day. When we arrived around 2 pm they said we had to wait until 3pm despite no one in line and the RV sitting outside ready to go. It had over 200miles. The refrigerator smelled like strong fabuloso cleaner! Our food smelled like cleaner it was gross. This was our second time renting and decided it was our last. We will ck out Outdorsey next time we want an RV. read more

This was our second time renting from Cruise America. Both rentals went about the same. Pickup was good. We couldn't pick up until 1pm, which was standard. The RV itself was again, fine. Relatively good working order. They even pre-cooled our the fridge for us before pick-up, which was really appreciated. They have videos you can watch on how to do the hookups once you get on-site. A few hiccups we ran into while camping ( at an RV park). 1) The Gray and Black water sensors must be reversed. We barely used the toilets ( and never the shower) but our black water sensor said we were at 3/4 full. We used the sink quite a bit for washing dishes and the grey tank never went above empty. 2) The exterior water hookup would start to leak after opening the faucet past a quarter turn. This lead to not enough water pressure to run the sinks. Fortunately the maintenance manager at the campsite recognized what it was ( missing o-ring) and he had a spare one so that fixed it for us. 3) If you're used to newer cars with Android Auto/Carplay, make sure you get some kind of phone holder. I had one that normally attaches to the vents, but wouldn't fit the circle-style vents the RV had. I had to just leave the phone in a cupholder and glance at it periodically for GPS/navigation. Not the safest thing but not a huge deal. Drop off was good as well. The extra buffer time ( 11am is drop off, but they'll let you drop off until noon without penalty) was really helpful for us. As a family of 4 from Germany we rented an RV from Cruise America (CA) in San Francisco for a 4-week tour around some national parks in the western/southwestern USA in April. The RV was unsafe, run down, and poorly maintained. Four major appliances didn't work (fridge, stove, shower and heater). Other features that were compromised or didn't work included back-up sensor, screen door and door lock, windscreen wipers, lights and toilet door. Three times during our trip we had to either go out of our way or make a special stop at our additional expense, as we followed CA's instructions to 'fix' some of the problems. We found CA's "customer service" and communication around the issues we experienced to be lacklustre at best. Managers conveniently were never available to speak with us, and we were passed from one person to another as we tried to resolve the RV's many issues. Because we lost time on our rental in order to 'fix' the numerous issues, CA's own policies stated we would be due a partial refund. But it took MONTHS of wrangling with CA, involving the Better Business Bureau and many emails, before we eventually received a nominal refund that did not at all cover our additional expenses. This whole experience left a very sour taste in our mouths and marred a trip we had been planning for over a year. If you're wanting to rent an RV in the USA, we STRONGLY recommend that you stay far away from Cruise America. read more

We loved the experience, but our trip became a nightmare when we got a flat. We were in the middle of nowhere, and the first three customer service reps thought I should spend the night on the side of the highway with my two children, rather than helping us get a service to come out and change the tire. I was very disappointed, the first rep cancelled the tire service because, surprise surprise, there was no tire shop open at 7 pm. NOBODY called to update me, only the Michelin service had told me it was cancelled. We finally got three very friendly guys to come out and put on the spare for us for a crazy amount of cash. When we finally got back on the road at 10 pm, the sensor fault came on. "Oh, you need to go to a garage immediately and get it recalibrated." At 10 pm?! There's no garage open that late! Even if it wasn't the sticks, no place is open at 10 at night. We ended up driving back home with the sensor warning on the whole time. It was a very frustrating experience, but the experience with the RV was phenomenal. Otherwise, I'd give only one star for the customer service alone. I get that the reps are in California, but they could have at least asked what time zone we were in. read more

Terrible experience Got to rental yard, picked up RV. Numerous problems with a new 2026 Standard size. 1) Main storage compartment lock did not work. took 30 minutes to fix that 2) Went home started to pack that night so we could leave 7:00 am next morning. Main door lock keys did not work. Could not lock either lock on the door. Could not load the night before. Had to go back to Cruise Ameria in Newark at 8:30 am next morning. Took over an hour to fix. Delayed departure time by 4 hours. 3) Shelf on top of stove was broken off 4) Refrigerator door shelf broken off AND THE WORST 5) Sewer hose had broken prong so it would not stay on the out port. Thank goodness I knew enough (former RV owner) and I did not open the sewer line to drain. Could you just imagine if that happened to a novice and they flooded the campground with raw sewage? Had to spend $65 to buy a new sewer hose at the campground. Thank goodness, as well, for KOA. They always bail you out. 6) Still have not been reimbursed for said sewer hose and it has been a month. 7) Now they don't answer the phone at Newark or the "travelers help" line. The staff was nice enough and the repair guys were good, but their inspection procedures to make sure unit is properly prepared and ready for next renter in quite lacking. THEY SHOULD HAVE MINUS STAR RATING BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT THEY WOULD GET. That is all, rant over. Just beware. Nope, rant not over. So, I just call the Newark/San Francisco office, and they now say been too long (told me I would get refund in 2-3 weeks, been 4, sorry can't access your reservation anymore. 1. We lost our sewage hose on a rough paved road because the flap shook loose while driving. We had to go out of our way to have it replaced. After that, we taped the flap shut to prevent the loss of the new hose. 2. We had at least three mice in our RV gnawing at our food, and we had to buy mouse traps to get rid of them, including handling the dead mice. We lost some of our apples and bagged nuts to mice and had to discard them due to the risk of contamination. Photos of the apple and dead mice are enclosed. 3. The key to the locked outside storage areas broke off, and we had to organise a replacement with a locksmith. 4. The last and main issue was the complete breakdown of our refrigerator. We tried it by switching it off and on repeatedly. When that didn't work, I started calling the Cruise America Hotline. One of the employees arranged an appointment with RV Country in Klamath Falls to have the refrigerator checked out. The technician informed us, as well as someone in the call centre, that the cooling unit was broken. They did not have any replacement parts, neither the unit nor the complete refrigerator. We called the hotline again to have the fridge either repaired or replaced at Cruise America Portland, OR, however, it was not possible at all. We attempted to schedule a repair in Seattle, WA however, we were informed that new refrigerators would not arrive until later. This did not fit at all with our travel plans as we had to hand the RV back in San Francisco. A change of the RV unit was also not possible due to the high demand for RV units at the time. We did not buy any ice to put in our refrigerator. We did not want the fridge and possibly the heater installed below it, in case such a bag had holes flooded with water. A cooler with ice was also not an option for us. We struggled with the available space in our C21 unit already and did not know where to put a cooler. We had sliced meat in our fridge and had to throw away some of it. We specifically booked an RV with a refrigerator to solve any trouble with produce during our travels. For 10 days, we had to drastically reduce our selection of produce due to a lack of cooling options in remote National Parks. Grilling steaks was entirely out of the question. We are very disappointed with the lack of genuine assistance during our travels and the numerous issues we encountered with our RV. We were willing to adjust our travel plans to be at locations where the refrigerator could be repaired or replaced. Since returning the RV unit, Costumer Service is playing dead regarding any compensation, regardless of how many mails or calls where placed. read more

After reading all the bad reviews, a lot of which seem to be from other locations, I guess my advice is to insist on getting a newer vehicle and inspect everything before driving off. We had amazing customer service (shout out to Robbie in the Newark, CA office!) at pick-up. He was very informative and helpful with all kinds of tips and information. We were in and out quickly and even got to take off in our vehicle an hour early. The guy who showed us everything on the rv told us that the sensor in the black water (toilet) tank was not working right, it was empty but always showed at 1/3 full bc it likely had a piece of toilet paper blocking the sensor. That was fine, at least we knew about it. Also the propane tank always read emptier than it was even when it was full. The steering wheel also pulled to the left but it corrected itself when we put air in the tire. We explained these issues when checking it back in and the guys were very nice about it and didn't try to say it was our fault. The rv had about 20k miles and everything else was working great and nice and clean. We really enjoyed our road trip of about 1400 miles thru Oregon and the Northern California coast. Rv'ing is glamping in my opinion!! You roll up to your campsite, lock the doors and you're ready to go explore and have fun! No unloading and setting up for hours only to have to break it all down again. Just arrive and enjoy. Hungry? Double burner propane stove is ready to cook whatever you want. There's a microwave if you're lazy. 2 sinks, hot shower, comfy bed. Fridge and freezer with lots of room. We were eating ice cream in the middle of a forest! Yes, it's expensive to rent an rv, but if you're going on vacation and planning to spend time in nature, THIS IS IT FOLKS!!! I never want to camp like a peasant again!! My tips- Download Google maps so you have details when offline. You'd be surprised how little phone/ internet coverage America has outside of the cities. Look around inside the rv before buying supplies. We found a broom and cups, bowls and plates we didn't know about. Most things in the rv are run by propane. The generator is $3.50 per hour to run but that's only used for the microwave when you're not plugged into power. Make sure you feel/ hear the fridge door "click" into lock mode before driving off lol! Secure stuff before driving and put something under the microwave plate so it doesn't jiggle and make a lot of noise when moving. Also secure everything including the spare tire for a quieter smoother ride. Buy rainex for your windshield and windows and take this step for better visibility when driving. Your windows will get gross on the roads and this is a safety hazard. Have someone get out of the rv to help with parking bc there's no rear camera. read more

Rented one of the 25 ft RVs for a week and drove around Northern California! I would highly recommend Cruise America! The experience was great. The rental process was easy, when we arrived the RV was ready to go and they walked us through the RV and answered all of our questions. On the drive up north we unfortunately got a flat tire. We called the hotline and they sent someone to replace the tire and they arrived within 25 minutes. They were extremely helpful and sent us regular text updates while waiting. When we returned the RV we also let them know our stove wasn't working but it was actually our error, even though it was user error they comped the last day for our troubles with the tire and stove. I will 100% be a returning customer and already have my plan to rent next summer again for another week. I have heard horror stories about other RV companies so I was hesitant to rent but Cruise America has superior customer service and any problems we ran into they helped us, this is the reason I will continue renting from them. read more

We're picked up very much in time using our earlybird add-on. Smoothly picked up the RV and then we were good to go. RV worked perfectly fine and no issues during our trip. Consulted Cruise America a few times during our trip and they helped very politely. PLEASE READ IF CONSIDERING BUYING !!! So I bought from this location almost a year ago , when I tell you that this place is an absolute scam rip off artist it's horrible . So I bought an RV ( refurbished) and it has been issue after issue , I'm exhausted and SUPER disappointed that they would sale this to me with all the issues . So let's start from here , when I bought it both batteries ( coach battery & Engine battery ) was both over 4 years old , first time it got cold both died . $360 for both Next , complete water system in the coach failed , multiple water line breaks , Coach water pump was leaking in multiple locations , when investigated they didn't run the water lines correct and it looked as if they had the same issues prior $ 1700 RV has been kept in a indoor garage ,,, took it out for the first time in the rain to take a drive ,,, ALL 3 skylights ( over bed , over driver cabin bed & bathroom ALL leaking severely ). After investigating it was never siliconed correctly, they did a half a$$ job sealing it just to make it ready to go , it was an absolute mess on the roof , service person was amazed on how bad the job was ... $1200 First time using the gas , turned gas on and it was leaking , entire gas system needed to be replaced , turned it on and all I could smell was gas ,,, replaced everything $500 . We have put barley 1k miles on this thing and it is an absolute mess .... I wish I could speak to someone higher up but I'm sure they don't care .... I urge ANYONE looking for a used RV run for your life in the opposite direction from this place ... read more

Check-in line was a few minutes long but the process was overall very quick for a travel trailer rental which was only a few months old. Mack provided a tour of the rental including how to use everything which took about 15-20 minutes. I think he took more time than normal to help me understand how to hook up the trailer which I sincerely appreciated. The rental worked out great overall! The water heater ended up not working during the trip but they gave me some money back for the inconvenience. Overall, Cruise America continues to be my go-to for RV rentals and the staff do a great job of being efficient and helpful at the same time. read more

This review is for the Newark, CA location. I noticed some other reviews left here were for other locations besides the one for this listing. I have rented twice from this location (Compact Plus model) and have had positive experiences both times. The staff are friendly. They walked me through every single thing that has an on/off switch you'd need to use for living in and upkeeping the RV during a trip. They switch everything on to ensure it works, including both the heater and AC. They explain how the waste valves work. They make sure the water tank and propane are full. The RVs are very clean and on both of my trips I had no issues with anything malfunctioning. (Compare this to my rental from another RV rental chain "The Mountain" where the rep was personality-less and I had to ask her how to turn stuff off/on, the rear cam immediately stopped working, fridge barely worked, side mirror was broken, and more!) An RV has a lot of little parts that can go wrong but I think Cruise America did a good job of maintaining the rentals I had. The only annoying thing is that they do not refill the gas so it's whatever the last person returned it with. I got mine 1/4 full so had to immediately get gas nearby. However they were upfront about this and only expected the return to be 1/4 full at the end of my trip. read more

I was not happy with my Cruise America rental. So many things went wrong it was kind of ridiculous! I made many calls to travel assistance. This was my third rental in the past three years. The previous rentals were mostly trouble free. I don't know what's happening over there, but things have seriously gone downhill. First, the water ran out on Day 2. When I called assistance to find out why air instead of water was coming out the tap, he said the tank was dry. He asked if I had checked the gauges and I had not. When I picked up the camper, the agent told me the gas was full and the LP gas was 3/4 full. I don't think she mentioned water. But why on earth would you rent a camper with gas and propane and almost no water AND NOT INFORM THE RENTER? I had told the agent I was going off the grid and would not have access to gas, propane, electricity or water. Not only that, there is probably a hose on the Cruise America property; filling the water tank would be the simplest thing to do! Luckily, I was able to backtrack a bit before I left civilization and fill it up, but this created a several hour delay in my trip. When I checked the water gauge I also looked at the others. I was alarmed to see that the black and grey water tanks read as full, which could not be true since this was still Day 2 of my trip. Online I saw several articles explaining how untrustworthy those two gauges are so I decided they were wrong. By this time it was too late to seek out a dump station. For the next few days I used water mainly to wash dishes. On day four, I took my first shower and the grey water backed up into the shower stall. Let me remind you that I am one person on the fourth day of my trip. The agent made a show of pointing to the open sewage cap to prove the tanks were empty but that was obviously not even CLOSE to being true. That day and the next day I had to let my dirty dishes pile up in the sink. And of course I couldn't take another shower. I was camping in an environmentally sensitive area where it's not allowed to dump any kind of unclean water. The following day I went to find dump facilities on my way to another primitive campground. Again, this added an unnecessary delay and detour from my planned trip since I should not have had to dump the tanks until I got back to town to return the camper. Unfortunately, for the last 2.5 hours of the drive there, a disgusting sewage smell permeated the camper, making the drive quite unpleasant. But we're not done yet! On the last day of my trip, the refrigerator failed. The indicator showed the letters F and A. The travel assistance agent had no idea what that meant. But I figured it out since the ice in the freezer was half melted. He instructed me to cycle the refrigerator off and on five times. This did not work. I had decided to end my trip early for several reasons, and this capped it off. I didn't want all the food in the fridge to spoil. As it was, I did lose a few items. And I developed a bad taste in my mouth for this camper experience. When I returned the camper, I told the agent how unhappy I was and that I wanted 50% off my entire rental as compensation. He said he could offer $500 off. When I got home, I read the contract again and realized I did not get my $300 edited deposit back! I filled out their online form twice, emailed them directly and sent them a physical letter via snail mail and have received absolutely zero response. We recently went on a 2 week trip with Cruise America, going to Yellowstone and Seattle. Overall, we had a horrible experience with Cruise America, both in terms of the damaged car we received and the customer service quality. First, the gray tank itself was damaged. Within 10 minutes of water usage, the gray tank becomes full and water starts flooding out of our shower drain, which is absolutely disgusting. For two full weeks, we were unable to get a proper shower due to the gray tank overfilling constantly. Second, both the black and gray tank has unreliable fullness indication lights. Even when emptied, both lights still show that the tank is still full. As such, it was extremely hard to tell when the waste tank was full, so we ended up having to go to the dump station at 1 AM in 30 degrees weather because we had to empty the tanks. Had the lights been fully functioning, we could have emptied out the tanks earlier without having to go into the cold. Third, the left gas stove is extremely weak, almost like a candle. It took us 25 minutes to get water to boil on the left gas stove. At first, we thought stoves in RVs were just slow. However, we later discovered that the right gas stove is much stronger and properly functioning, unlike the left one. Fourth, the fridge does not remain closed when driving and no one gave us a heads up about it! By the time we reached our destination on the first day, everything in our fridge already fell out because it does not close. We ended up having to toss out a week's worth of groceries. Fifth, there is a light that is out in the cabin. This made me question the quality assurance of Cruise America. Checking that all the lights are fully functioning is not a hard task that takes a long time. If Cruise America didn't even bother checking that all lights are fully functioning, I doubt that they checked things that are harder to check, such as the engine functionality. Sixth, we notified the customer service department of the above issues a week into our trip. They first took a full day to make the proper contacts, and this was after we kept on bumping the issue. Then, they expected us to take time out of our paid trip to get the car fixed. This act is extremely irresponsible as it is dumping the company's duty onto the customer. Cruise America promised quality and satisfaction to its customers. However, it gave the customer a damaged car and expected the customer to spend time that they paid for to fix their car. Although Cruise America has higher prices than many other sites, we rented from it as we believed that a large company would have better customer support and quality. However, we believe that we got neither. Instead, we paid high prices for a damaged car and was even expected to help them get it repaired while giving up our own vacation time. read more

Worst experience ever. From the start the check in process was slow and painful. We got there at 1 o'clock and didn't leave until well after five. Condition of RV was deplorable, it was filthy and did not look like it had been wiped down at all despite COVID. The worst part is that we got an RV that was in barely usable condition. There was a mouse nest under the sink in the bathroom, the mice are eating through all of our food. The engine makes a horrible clicking sound and barely makes it up and down hills. The table that turns into a bed collapsed on me the first night. Update: I emailed and no response. The manager at Newark did his best to accommodate all our problems but the company itself does not value customers. Although told by customer support to get a hotel when our a/c stopped working they won't reimburse it. read more

I have been calling Cruise America for the last 4 hours. I've also been calling their insurance company Zurich Direct and nobody answers or can help with a claim. I was struck by their vehicle last night and nobody will be of assistance in processing. I'm praying that an email I sent will get through but I doubt that will be of any additional benefit. I want to echo the general opinion that they are severely understaffed. I feel bad for the people working here, they are overworked and are trying their hardest. Unfortunately, being understaffed and overworked leads to mistakes. We had an appointment and it took almost 3hrs before we were helped. The workers were running around like mad and even 7yr old in line said " I feel bad for him because all the pressure is on him!". The RV was not in the cleanest condition but we assumed that was probably normal considering how used these vehicles are and how rushed the staff are to clean and inspect them. My 5yr old pointed out to me that there was a liner that was broken in the upper bed, exposing nails that was duct taped (see pic). I'm not sure the protocol but we had given an estimated of 2000 miles and they provided us an RV with nearly bald tires. Of course a tire blew out while we were driving in the middle of a desert (my first experience, entirely terrifying) and it took almost 9hours for someone to come help. The mechanic had to replace two tires because he said one was so bad he couldn't legally put it back on (see pic). Additionally, there was a propane leak inside of the vehicle so I turned off the propane as instructed by the manual. As a result, we basically froze at our campsite in the Rockies while all of our food went bad because it the furnace and fridge were powered by the propane. I don't fault any of the workers (or the ppl on the phone that helped us while our tire blew out), it just seems like bad company practices. I think the RVs are FINE but would not recommend if you are going on a long trip. I learned a lot about RVs on this memorable trip and I would say that the prices are decent. However, I will probably look elsewhere for my next trip. PS the toilets are insanely high up - it's pretty uncomfortable to use unless you're Yao Ming or something. Unless you're a quick pooper, your legs are gonna get numb as they dangle there while you're suspended 3' in the air. read more

I had a great experience with Cruise America. I rented the compact (3 person) RV for a week to drive out to Yellowstone/Grand Tetons with my boyfriend to escape the wildfire smoke. We made the reservations really far in advance and also included the personal kits for towels/sleeping bags/pillows and the kitchen kit. Personally if I did it again, I wouldn't get either kit. I think it's a bit more savvy to bring your own items, but they had those available and since we were novices, we went with it. Upon picking up the RV, we had absolutely no trouble. We came a little earlier than our retrieval appointment, but they were still able to help us out and there was no line to wait in for anything. They were really attentive and worked very quickly. I recommend watching the orientation video before getting the RV. They'll walk through everything with you and leave you with a manual, but it helps to have a little foresight on what you might have questions about. During the trip, we ran into no technical issues and I was honestly surprised. No issues with the RV running and no issues with any of the features or appliances. Everything worked as expected! The waste tanks fill up quickly, so be diligent about staying on top of those levels especially in such a small RV. Since it was just my boyfriend and me, we slept above the cab and didn't use the converted dining area bed. It's not a hotel bed by any means, but we got some good night's rest up there. A couple nights in Wyoming were chilly, so we kept the furnace on overnight, but I recommend a blanket or two if you run extra cold like me. As novice RV renters, we had a really pleasant experience. Cruise America isn't any super duper fancy luxury kind of RV, but they give us a quality RV nonetheless. Personally I don't like a lot of bells and whistles for camping, so I was really happy with it. My boyfriend is not an outdoorsy person and hates sleeping outside, but he said he was pleasantly surprised with how good of a time he had and how comfortable he was in this RV. We were going for as COVID-friendly of a vacation as we could get. The RV let us bypass public bathrooms, but let us drive hundreds of miles to get a huge change of scenery. Customer service is stellar. Given the popularity of RV'ing during lock-down, however, results in a swamped location struggling to manage the volume with too few a number employees. They do their best with a smile, but be prepared for the pick-up (and potentially drop-off) process to take an hour or longer. If they had the proper staff levels, it easily would have been a 5-star experience. Note: because of the limited team size (I assume), our RV was not topped off on gas, requiring a stop before we could begin our adventure. While they were very generous with compensating for it (could have returned it empty), it was a step I would have preferred to avoid given our eagerness to get on the road. Other considerations: + Pre-paying the emptying of the waste and gray water tanks. Better deal if you end up not having time to do so before returning and, if you do empty it prior, the fee is refunded. No fuss (or muss). + Also consider pre-paying for the propane refill, for the same reason. + Although insurance is included in the cost, and has a relatively small (considering the potential expense of repair for an expensive RV) deductible of $1,500, the $0 deductible is $15 a day and may be worth it, given the number of days you're renting for and your level of comfort / experience driving a vehicle that size. Being able to just hand over the keys, irrespective of any damage you may incur, may be worth it to you. Problems and incidents are periodically bound to happen but I simply cannot state strongly enough how well their senior leadership handled the issue. In today's world where everything is automated call centers - Cruise America provided me and my family with extremely dedicated, diligent human support. Sure - the RV is great. Equipment worked perfectly, driving was smooth, trip was amazing. But the thing that really made this 5 star was the customer service when we ran into self inflicted issues. We just rented a RV to travel from Florida to California. The beginning of the rental was great, the staff in Miami were wonderful. However we wanted to drop off the RV in San Francisco and due to some large event in the area we had to take it to Carson, California. Cruise America has no flexibility They made us pay for 10 days worth of RV use even though we only used it for six. They charged us a $750 drop off fee because it was a one-way rental. The Rv had issues. The tire pressure warning was almost constantly on, the drawers kept coming open while we were dricing, the black water and Grey water were registering in reverse and the handle for the Grey water broke off. When we turned in the RV they charged us $300 because a rock made a minor crack in the windshield. While my husband was calling the main # about being charged, the nasty manager, Judy, who helped us check the rv in, rushed us out of the rv, and took $300 out of our deposit. When we reported this to our auto insurance they were surprised they did that and not allow us to file a claim. We would never rent from them again. The unit I was given was in filthy condition. Dirt and grit were on all surfaces and mattress was torn in multiple places. The counter was peeling off and there was a bad odor/ smoking smell. I have attached photos. When I told the manager,Mr. Adler, that I would not accept it, He said there was nothing he would do and said: " If I gave you another unit, then I would have to give the dirty one to someone else." Inventory is getting worn. During Covid units were not replaced and were pressed into extra service. All kinds of little things were broken, making the overall enjoyment of our trip miserable. With the uptick in business, hopefully they start replacing their inventory. It's in dire need of replacement. read more

Did 2400 miles within a week, and all worked really well. We had that smaller size RV, which was sufficient for 3 people and a dog (but we're comfortable in small spaces; this may not work for all). Engine was powerful, and RV was reliable. As discussed in other reviews, it's pretty noisy inside will driving, hence conversations are difficult. Check-in took quite some time, probably close to 2 hours. That was perhaps the main annoyance. But (most) ppl were good at social distancing and wearing masks b/c Covid. And staff was exceptionally professional, courteous, and friendly! I pre-purchased full deductible, dumping and camping gas, so that removed a headache during and post trip - and I am glad I did. Drop-off was a breeze, cauz' I showed up early (9am) -- I heard it can get crazy 10:30am or so, since everybody shows up then. Would use them again! read more

Sadly I can't give a half star but our experience with Cruise America can only be described as completely awful . If you are looking to rent an RV, I would choose almost anyone else you can find- literally build an RV yourself if you have to instead of using them. Cruise America pulled off the rare feat of making our 7 hour trip a 12-hour nightmare both ways. The RV we got should have never been allowed off the lot and the only logical reason it could have possibly passed their inspection is either complete laziness, outright stupidity, a greed for money despite putting in no effort, or most likely a mixture of all 3. The alignment was so bad in this truck that it tore the right wheel to shreds. When we called for help, we were basically given a shrug emoji and told to fend for ourselves because, and I quote the employee here, "it's Sunday". So, if you are taking a trip, make sure it's not on a Sunday because that is apparently a reason to not give a shit anymore for employees all over the country, despite running a retail travel service where people are constantly traveling on Sunday. We were fortunate enough to make it home on the spare; by the time we got back, it was on it's last legs. Basically, we were given an unsafe truck to hurtle at 70 MPH down the highway with no oversight from the inspection team and zero help from the company once their shit product failed. It was most likely my worst retail renting experience of my life. Do not use this company ever, I guarantee you it will be a terrible time and whatever you do do not use the bathroom in these, as it doesn't work. Here is a list of things you can do besides using one of these terrible RVs from the worst RV-rental company in America: 1) Fly yourself- I mean literally flap your arms like wings 2) Walk even if it takes you 6 months 3) Get shot out of a cannon and pray you land at your destination 4) Don't go on your trip- missing it will be better than dealing with these chuckleheads 5) Get a root canal and have your periodontist travel you in your chair to the destination during the procedure 6) Get yourself in a human centipede situation and run down to your destination 7) Strap yourself to the front of a train and hope for the best Seriously, this company is the fucking worst. If we do not hear back with in 48 business hours we will decline all charges on the credit card. Here is a listing the issues we encountered. 1. When we received and took home the RV we noticed that the RV was unsanitary. There were a few dirty items under the seat and bed Mats that belonged to the previous renters. The floors were encrusted with dirt and would render a white cloth to become black when scrubbing and the bathroom had urine on the toilet and floors. We spent the majority of the first night cleaning the RV. 2. The RV black and grey water tank gauges are not accurate and after 2-3 flushes of "pee only" they would go from zero to 2/3 full. This caused a lot of extra time and issues on our trip as we had to dump every day when we were not expecting that to be needed . There was time, charges and mileage incurred in finding a place to dump. Additionally sometimes the gauges showed empt when in fact it was full. 2 nights we had grey water overflow I. The kitchen sink and shower. We had to find a place to emergency dump. We converted these issues to customer care and even though she was professional she stated this was a typical know issues and nothing could be done. She asked us to keep track of our bodily urine/feces output instead of relying on the gauges. 3. The pump dump hose the Rv came with had holes in it and the first time I dumped I ended up with feces on me as it was flung and propelled on my chest and legs. This should not have happed if this was checked by the rental place before giving the Rv to us. We would not find a place anywhere that could sell us a working hose. I had to attempt to repair it with duck tape but even this didn't work as the wetness stoped to glue so every time I had to dump we would have some significant spillage. 4. The RV right mirror would shake so much it was impossible to see or make safe turns. We called this is and they told us to find an hex key to fix at 10pm at night the way to the place we were going. I couldn't locate a tool for several days and when I used it it did not fix the problem. We used duck tape to fasten the miror somewhat. 5. The the suspension on the vehicle was very stiff and even though we only traveled freeways the RV would jump and shake when would over any small Changes in the road. It was difficult to drive the RV past 50 with out significant turbulence in the cabin and not feeling safe. I state this because I think this is attributing to the many issues we had. So because of the cabin shaking we had on more than 5 occasions the storage selfs and doors flung open and toss anything that was inside. We had items fall on us and injure us and our service animal. We had to clean spilled and broken items many times. I eventually had to place ducky tape on the cabinets to secure them properly. 6. There was a propane gas's leak in the Rv cabin, for 2-3 nights we had woke up with severe headaches and nausea with an odd distinct smell of propane. We reported this but no one could come out to help. Upon further investigation it could have been caused by the refrigerator gas not igniting and leaking the gas in the sleeping area. The CO2 alarm did not go off or sound. We then had to turn the propane off from the main source and could not use the fridge or water heater. It was hard to shower. Our food also spoiled. Since we had the many issues we decided to go home and cancel and trip. My wife's medicine needs to stay refrigerated and this posed a huge issue for us with the drive not working. 7. engine stated to fail.The RPMs and engine was over reved. On Idle the engine would be on 5000 RPM and when driving 6k plus. The engine would shift very hard and we could not drive past 40- 55. We called and the person told us they could tow and wait a few days in the tow yard until they could get a mechanic or we can make due with and try to get home, I had to check the engine and play mechanic and somehow the phone disconnected from the agent. 8. The vehicle needed a ton of oil. We mush have used 6-10 qts of oil. Transmission oils was low and also needed to fill up. 9. The table that coverts to a bed broke on the base that holds the pole and came crashing down on my knee and injured me. I will need to seek treatment on this injury as it is still very 11. Cruise America has business practices that should not be allowed within this country. They take a $500 deposit and then miraculously there are surcharges and fees that take up nearly that entire amount. And you have no way of arguing them because they already have your money and their customer service is non-existent. I had the absolute worst experience renting an RV that I have had on vacation ever. The RV I had was new but it was like driving a wooden wheeled car across railroad tracks for 700 miles. Then on top of that, they charged me for 2 days over what I used the RV for because we returned it early because it was such a horrendous experience. So they could double dip and rent it out again and make money on the same days I was not getting refunded for. they charges "housekeeping" fees of $350 even thought my wife and I wiped down that entire RV before turning it in. When asked for proof of what was dirty, there only response was to give us $150 certificate to be used within the next 2 years. I would never use it because I would never rent an RV. And if I did, I would not do it through them. It took me 2 weeks just to get a response form their billing department. The just over another week before I got their response that they will not be refunding me anything. Do yourself a favor and rent an SUV or something and pitch a tent in some haunted woods. Trust me you will have a better experience and cheaper because you will not have them scam your deposit out of you. I rented fro cruise america 6 months in advance of out trip with a $500.00 deposit for an extra large RV. Price was reasonable and didn't expect any issues. On our flight into Reno NV. Our destination where we were to pick up the Rv. I got a text, that stated due to our lot being broken into, and all of our RV's catalytic converters being stolen, we don't have an RV for you to pick up. This was the day of the scheduled pick up. They offered a refund of the deposit, or I could go to a store 300 miles awY and pick one up. Not good choices since we were flying in. Picked up an RV at Lexington South Carolina. Made a reservation for seven days under discount and couldn't make it to the pick up on Friday, picked up on Saturday (next day) they completely cancelled our reservation, charged us double the price and cancelled two days of our seven day trip on their own. They said they sent us an email confirming the change, but we never received anything. They waited for our family to arrive after a day's drive to tell us the price was going to be doubled. The RV did not have hot water, store told us they would adjust billing at return to match original reservation and yet they did nothing. We trusted that they would honor the price and they did not.
