I would not rent from Road Bear Rentals & Sales again based on our recent experience. From the very beginning, the experience fell short of expectations. When we picked up the RV, we did not receive a thorough walkthrough of the vehicle or an explanation of its features and operation. Instead of taking the time to show us the ins and outs of the RV in person, we were simply told to watch a 35-minute video if we had questions. For first-time renters or anyone unfamiliar with that specific RV, this was not an adequate substitute for proper customer service. During the second week of our cross-country trip, the generator in our RV stopped working. We had specifically paid for the unlimited generator usage option, yet the generator was never repaired despite our calling and emailing the service department every day. While the water pump was fixed, the generator issue remained unresolved for the rest of our trip. This created serious safety concerns for our family. My mother relies on a CPAP machine to sleep, and we were traveling with children who have special needs. Without a working generator, we were forced to spend approximately $2,000 on hotels just to have air conditioning and electricity overnight. To make matters worse, while we were still in El Paso, Texas--about 20 hours from California--we were instructed to return the RV by 5:00 p.m. California time. We explained that making that drive without a functioning generator in extreme heat was unsafe, but our circumstances did not appear to be taken into consideration. One of Road Bear's own service representatives even told us that the generator was "not a good unit," yet no meaningful solution was provided. We were also never informed that the generator should not be used while driving, despite paying extra for unlimited generator use. We expected a reliable RV and responsive customer service, especially considering the premium price we paid. Instead, we experienced inadequate orientation, an unresolved mechanical issue, significant unexpected expenses, and a great deal of stress during what was supposed to be a memorable family vacation. I hope Road Bear takes responsibility for this experience and improves both the reliability of its vehicles and the level of customer service it provides. Customers should receive a proper in-person orientation before leaving the lot, and mechanical issues that affect safety should be addressed promptly. Unfortunately, based on our experience, I cannot recommend renting from Road Bear Rentals & Sales. read more

The pick up was a breeze, everything well explained and the RV was clean and very functional. Return was a disaster. They were closed during their business hours so we weren't able to return the car, had to drive home and make a second trip from more than 60 miles away the next day. We were told by customer service that return closes early at 3:30 and we should check before we return. Really? I am suppose to check if a store is open during the published business hours to make sure they are really open? I still give it 3 stars but I don't think I'd rent here again. read more

I am giving 3 star because RV room heater didn't work and also the lunch table would slide down during road travel. Called their 800 numbers from RV camp first night. Person receiving the call was nice enough to ask me to find a walmart or similar to buy space heater/blankets and ask for refund upon return or just ask for similar discount upon return. During returning this morning mentioned heater situation to lady who was working for receiving, she seems this is nothing, freezing whole family at camp. And offered me a total of $10 discount for this whole situation. This lack of sympathy caused road bear to loose 2 stars from me. Otherwise RV was good, clean, family loved RV trip. Pickup was quick and gentleman during pickup helped me a lot to do walk thru and explain. Road bear seems to have move option at their RVs like side awning, led outside light etc. read more

My family and I rented the Class A RV for our month long cross country trip. The RV was incredibly clean and it was the perfect size motorhome for our family (2 adults,3kids)- we loved the slide out feature which was so nice to have more room in the evenings when the rv was parked at the rv park. It was our very first time renting a motorhome and my husbands very first time driving one. We had some issues with the rv that we addressed to the help center hotline (which they helped resolve)and to the manager when we dropped off the RV. The manager really empathized with us on the issues we had with the RV and provided great customer service to make things right. Definitely would recommend RoadBear RV to those looking to rent a clean and nice RV, especially at this location where the manager provides excellent customer service! read more

Our younger has been fascinated with RVs for a couple of years now. The idea of cooking, eating, watching TV, sleeping, pooping, and showering in a vehicle that moves is irresistible. We took a tour of our friend's RV, and it only fueled her obsession. So, for her birthday, instead of a party and gifts, we did an RV weekend at a local beachside campsite. I didn't know where to start, but Yelp lead me to Road Bear. They were great! We had to get a larger model than we wanted, because the smaller ones book months in advance and I hadn't planned that far ahead. The behemoth was new and in pristine condition. They showed us how to use everything. And it was a boatload of fun. Good clean family fun. So much fun in fact, that the siblings were too delighted to remember to annoy each other, and it was two of the most harmonious days we've spent together in some time. I think it would be more cost effective for a longer trip than a weekend, but now that I've had tried it, I wouldn't hesitate to go back and do a more leisurely vacation. read more

The worst experience with an rv, they showed me everything worked when the rv was plugged into the wall. When I took the rv camping. Nothing in the rv worked: the fridge didn't work so all our food went bad. Ac didn't work so u just die in the heat and can't even sleep. Bathroom didn't flush. Generator didn't get power to anything. I walked over to other rv's and asked people to help. And they would go through everything even the fuse box etc. shit was wrong somewhere in their wiring or something because no one could figure it out. Just the worst shit ever. I had to walk down the street till I could find Wi-Fi to make a call. And road bear didn't even want to help. I had to walk back to the rv in the heat to get the desk number and left on hold forever. Cutting our trip short because all of our food has gone bad. Thanks got ruining our trip. Waste of money. Update: went from 1star to 2 stars. They gave us a partial refund. But it doesn't really covered all the lost food and expenses we dealt with. It was just a bad experience overall. The final straw for my lady, she no longer wants to go camping even with an rv. I'm very big on camping and fishing trips so I'm pretty upset that this incident ruined any future opportunities to go camping and fishing! read more

We rented a 26 feet RV from Road Bear RV and we absolutely loved it. This was first our time renting an RV, so we didn't know what to expect. The RV was brand new with only 6600 miles on it and in immaculate condition. We had group of 4 adults and 2 children on a weekend trip and it worked out just fine. My husband and brother are both tall men over 6 feet, so they couldn't utilize the shower but they were able to utilize the bathroom. It was very much expected (because of their heights) that they wouldn't be able to use the shower so that wasn't a big deal. My husband is very picky and he was very impressed. The San Leandro/San Francisco Bear RV location is a very nice and clean facility. The customer service was good also, the staff seems to be organized and they have a good system going in order to get their customers in & out in a timely fashion. Keep up the Good work! I will never use road bear RV rental again. They seem great and affordable at the beginning but were absolutely extortionate with charges in the end. We spent a whole day cleaning the RV from top to bottom after our trip to burning man, clearing out all of the dust and cleaning every single surface until it was in the same condition that we received it. Regardless of this we were charged a $700 cleaning fee (even though there is already a $500 seasonal burning man charge). We were told this was due to dust in the sink which actually occurred due to an overflowing grey water tank which we were told was emptied upon rental even though the sensor said it was 2/3 full. We were told that this was no issue as there was something on the sensor and it had been emptied earlier that day. On top of this we were required to replace a broken key which became stuck and broke in a very difficult lock on the side of the RV at 7am (prior to office opening hours). This cost $300 and we were only reimbursed $50 as a courtesy. We have been to burning man several times now with an RV rented through other companies and have never had any issues with our full day of cleaning. I recommend El Monte which our friends used for their burn this year. Or Cruise America. read more

I rented a class A vehicle, it was the worst trip I did in my life, the wheel is stiff and there's void in it made it hard to drive in the freeways, the door step is automatic and it didn't went back to it's place so I damaged it when I drove to a gas station, they charged me for their mechanical fault. I called their customer service and they didn't report the incident on Saturday and I couldn't drive with door step hanging outside, I called on Monday but they said I can take it out if I have the right tool and it turned out that it sealed and can't be open by regular tools. There's no light indicator to warren you about the door from inside or on the driver cabinet and no alarm for any mechanical problem in any door or steps. Overall when I report what happened politely and asked the manger why they didn't explain this issue to me he said the I need to make sure about the "sound" of the step when I close the door even if there's loud noises around me and it's not their responsibility to mention that to me when I pickup the vehicle, can you believe that? The manager was rude so I paid for the step and left this horrible services. read more

The people were nice, the rv nice, the check in and out were fine...BUT they tacked on an extra day rental without advising me it was being added due to the eclipse. Admittedly i never looked at the drop off date when I picked up the vehicle but it wouldn't have mattered as i already had people waiting for me to take them on our mini vacation. I feel ripped off. Had a GREAT experience with Road Bear! We were RV rookies so really had no idea where to go to rent. This place is close to our house and my husband regularly passed by. He figured it was between this and Cruise America, and liked the fact that the rentals at Road Bear are practically brand new. We were not disappointed. Customer service was fantastic and they explained everything thoroughly. We ended up renting from the Hayward office, but picking up the unit in their Vegas branch. They actually suggested this to save gas and time (thank you!). Pick up and orientation were a breeze, although afterwards, I wished I had videotaped some of the instructions. We figured it out, plus they had a manual if needed, but I think a handy checklist would've been helpful. Most of the tips were about driving, not so much about dumping, the generator, etc (luckily I took notes!). As far as the RV, it was AWESOME! Far exceeded our expectations. Practically in brand new condition with all of the amenities. Perfect accommodations for our family of 5 (we got the 23-26 ft). We took it to the Grand Canyon and nothing could beat the comfort and convenience. We are SO doing this again, and definitely renting again from here. A bunch of our friends (jealous from my Facebook posts!) are also thinking of doing the same. I would have no problem recommending this place to them. If I were to note any downsides, the early checkout (11 am) is kind of a pain. They explained it's the same concept as a hotel, which I get...but when you are driving back from the Grand Canyon! We had to wake up at 4:30 am to get back in time! Also, the fridge/freezer is pretty weak. It seemed to be at the coldest setting, but didn't really ever seem very cold. Our ice cream melted in there, if that's any indication. I'll have to remember to ask them about that next time. Long trips, I'd worry about my food spoiling. Overall, totally sold on the RV experience and thank you Road Bear for the hospitality! This was our first-ever RV rental, and we had a Class C from their 22-24' category, with 1 adult & 2 older teens. The trip was great, and I would definitely rent another RV in the future. (We went a total of 3500 miles in 2 weeks.) I'm pretty sure Road Bear is cheaper than Outdoorsy, after you add in insurance & fees to each. We had a very new RV, and had no mechanical difficulties whatsoever. We had a number of minor annoyances: - the hookup hose leaked constantly (could have been solved by a 5-cent rubber gasket that's on most garden hoses), so we could not run directly off of city water, but simply filled up the RV's tank, then ran off the tank. - the TV did not work, and hence we could not watch any of the DVDs that we brought along with us. - the bathroom had no place to store shampoo or soap - the shower curtain had no weights at the bottom, so it was very hard to keep water in the shower. We mostly did not shower in the rig, but rather used showers at the RV parks - there was no built-in wastebaskets, so that was kind of stupid/annoying. - the microwave was not secured in its housing in the cabinetry, so the vibration of driving would shake it loose and it would fall backward into the cabinet, so every time we needed to use it, we had to first fight to get the door open, then reach in and lift it back up to its correct place in the plastic surround. Their 24-hour help desk was not useful at all, but we were calling for minor items, so I can't say if the would/wouldn't have been helpful in case of a mechanical breakdown. The user manual attempts to be a one-size-fits-all for different models of RV, and was rather phenomenally badly written and illustrated. Since we were renting in the middle of a pandemic, Road Bear was not doing their usual in-person training when you pick up, but rather directs you to some youtube videos. I'm sure it would have been much better if we had had someone walk us through all of the hookup & maintenance items. We did go to the San Leandro location in advance of renting, and they let us look around the RV to get a sense of the space & storage, etc., which was very helpful. If you want to take advantage of any of their special offers, you have to MANUALLY WRITE IT IN THE COMMENTS of your reservation form; they are not automatically applied. So while this list is a lot of annoying negatives, overall our experience was very good. We drove 3500 miles without incident, and the fridge, stove, and toilet all worked perfectly the entire time, and really, those are the most important items. read more

On Monday morning, August 21, 2017 I arrived with my family at Road Bear RV Rental and Sales in San Leandro, California at 12:30pm. We were scheduled to pick up a 27-30' Class C Motorhome with slide out. I was told by Tracks & Trails Adventure Vacations that vehicle pick up time was between 12:30pm to 4:00pm. On arrival I was told that we couldn't be helped until 1:00pm. Our family waited in the lounge area and used that time to fill out our paperwork. Our orientation was about to begin at 1:00pm but was held off for another 45 minutes because the sales associate could not find the keys. Another 20 minutes later we continued with the orientation of the vehicle. During the walk through and inspection, it was discovered that the kitchen sink was clogged. The entire family had to exit the vehicle for maintenance. At this point we were already behind our schedule for the day and the kids were hungry. They sat outside eating lunch from the vending machine because we had loaded the RV with all our personal items. We attempted to speak to a manager but he said there wasn't much he could do. They offered us a smaller RV after working on the sink for 20 minutes but that was not acceptable due the size of our family. As our family re-entered the vehicle Road Bear still had not stocked the vehicle with bedding and towels. Once this was complete we heading directly to our first stop, Jelly Belly Factory as suggested by Tracks and Trails. Unfortunately, the children were disappointed because we were unable to take a tour of the factory due to our late arrival, and they had 15 minutes to shop before the merchandise store closed. We proceeded to food shop to stock the RV, and a fast food dinner due our timing to arrive at our first campsite which was 90 miles/2hours away. We were told the campsite would not let us in after 10pm according to our Tracks and Trails itinerary, and we called to confirm. They assured us they had a strict policy about entering after 10pm, and we would have to reach out to the police if we were late. Our first night experience hooking up the RV was difficult in the dark on top of having 4 children (2 on the autism spectrum) who were agitated and tired for good reason. While putting the children in their assigned beds, the rear bunkbed collapsed with our 8 year old in it. We tried several time to secure the bottom bunk but were unable to do so. Wednesday evening, August 23, 2017 while washing hands in the bathroom, the gasket on the sink had come loose and water profusely spraying out of the handles flooding the bathroom until we could get it under control by shutting the water under the sink off. The next morning on our way to Yosemite, we contacted the number provided to us from Road Bear RV. The company told us we could drive to a mechanic an hour away from Yosemite since they were not sure if there was one between our day at Bodie State Park and Yosemite. We were extremely disappointed with this news. We were left with the choice of going to Bodie State Park with our family as promised, or miss another schedule stop to fix the sink in the RV in order to arrive in Yosemite before dark. Disappointing our children was not an option again, especially with two boys on the autism spectrum who were following our schedule as planned. It was our understanding during our orientation when picking up the RV that Road Bear would send a mechanic to our location. We spend the rest of the week without water in the bathroom. Other issues we experience with the RV we rented: back bedroom sliding door not locking, and swung back and forth making a loud banging sound as we drove (the noise very disturbing to the boys. The back door to enter the RV was not locking, also very uncomfortable to all of us after reading numerous signs to lock the doors because of bears. On Monday, August 28, 2017 we returned the RV as scheduled in the morning. We discussed the issues with the woman receiving our keys at the desk. We asked to speak to a manager but he would not leave his desk to speak to us, and used the sales associate as the messenger. The sales associate offered us approximately $180 off our bill but only if we would sign a release. Our first experience with this company was terrible. It will surely be our last, and we do not recommend using this company. There is enough competition out there, and please do your research. read more

It is unfortunate that I have to give this business a single star, I would give it none if I could. I want to point out that this bad experience took place at their office in Seatlle. However, after their manager's explanation of what happened, the review also applies to this office in San Leandro. Our trip was great, the vehicle was great, everything was great until we returned our RV. We were asked if everything was fine with the vehicle, and I said that there was one tire that was losing air, and we had to pump air twice during our trip (because I wasn't able to the first time since I didn't have an extension). So the people at Road RV in Seattle checked the tire and found a nail in it. The did so by spraying water on the tire. They charged me $75 for the "damage". After unsuccessfully dealing with the agent, I asked to speak with their manager, Andreas Kollmannsberger. He explained to me that I was responsible for the repair since I picked up the vehicle in San Leandro in good condition, and I was asked to check the RV for damages at that time. Ok... so I guess I was supposed to spray water on every tire to check for nails? What if the nail was there long before? What if they picked up the nail while driving the vehicle in their facilities in San Leandro? What if I didn't say anything about the tire? I would have saved myself the $75. I was charged for being honest and the manager was very closed minded on his argument. He even said that as good customer I should check the tires on rental vehicles... Yes, I think we all do... but none of us sprays water to check for nails... right? After about 20 minutes of unsuccessfully trying to get that repair cost waived, I decided to just pay it and leave. Our vacation was great and we wanted to stay with those memories instead. Again, the vehicle was good and so was our vacation, but this business should review their practices (or managers). If you are going to rent an RV from them, don't forget to take a spray bottle with you and check for nails, and every single thing that could cost you money when returning your vehicle. read more

I tried to reserve an RV using the RVshare website. Their advertised and quoted amount said 60 per night for July. A couple hours later they cancelled the request saying they had no units. I called the Seattle location AND their generic Road Bear RV customer service lines and both said they had plenty of vehicles. I tried again and they cancelled it again. read more

I highly recommend Road Bear RV in San Leandro. We picked up a couple weeks ago on a Saturday our home for the next 2 weeks. Road Bear sent us an email a few days before our pick up to schedule the pick-up time. We got an early slot what we highly appreciated. We were at the location way too early (maybe too nervous ;-) ), we got there around 7.30 in the morning and it was already full house. The office, we have to say was very impressive, clean they have awesome coffee and hot chocolate and they even have a shelf with left over stuff from other people how rented here. The information board was very helpful and interesting while we waited until it was our turn. Patrick (we found out later was the manager) helped us out. Since we did the online check-in it went pretty fast - he made copies of our driver licenses and credit card and handed us a super nice Road Bear folder over to read bah-hh hh so much to read in the morning, oh yes i forgot the awesome coffee machine they have there.... After around 15 -20 minutes we got called back to the front desk and they separate my boyfriend and me - my man got the explanation and I finished the contract with them. Patrick went over very detailed but fas so that the other family (i guess Italian) understood everything as well. He gave us a Safeway shopping card to save some extra $$$ to buy souvenirs (those cards are a bomb, they really help al ot if you check the items, the brand you are buying). after around 30 minutes with lots of tips where to go and where to drive, i justed waited inside until my boy was done. It was really impressive how everybody works here - you don't see that alot anymore. You clearly see all of them have fun and work really well together. Ok finally i got to see the RV - awesome our baby was a perfect size not too big and not too small. I will fast forward now a bit so you don't have to read my whole vacation blog in here;-) The last day came and we drove to our campground right across from Road Bear in Las Vegas, where we dropped it off. We filled everything up, emptied the tanks and gave it a nice clean inside. The next day at around 9.00 am we decided to drive half a mile down the street to return the RV, i know i know why so early - we decided to work a bit from the location so we can relax and gamble much more at the airport. After we arrived and took out the laundry and our luggage, we went inside the office and there was just a group of employees sitting there and chatting... We kindly interrupted them and got from all a dirty look. The guy checked us in and spoke all the time in German to customers next to us and did not pay attention to us, what we thought was weird. The check in was easy and fast - after he told us we can wait inside and told he will be there in a minute we decided to tell him a few thing what did not work: 1 drawer the inside broke after 10 days 1 skylight - (we had no idea how this happened) and a few small thing what didn't bother us. What did bother us, they did not offer any coffee or tea or water? The office seems more arrogant then nice and straight forward the office in San Leandro. So we waited outside and watched them when they explained a rig to new customers. I have to say totally different than in San Leandro 0 they basically do it quickly and leave lots of stuff out. The office and the lot seemed renovated but dirty, trash was everywhere and inside was really dusty and greasy for some reason. So to end this - Customer service, feeling welcomed taking care way more in San Leandro than in Las Vegas - they are more arrogant and seems to have not much understanding about their product after we listen to other customers who walked in. I wrote this review because i wanted to point out that this office does extremely and outstanding customer service. It's the worst company ever! We absolutely can not recommend it nobody. We travel a lot all over the Europe and always we met many friendly people. Unfortunately not this time. We pick up RV in Seattle where we were welcome by angry girl, which trade us like best enemies in her life. At the end of our 2 weeks trip we returned camper in San Francisco. Because of heavy traffic we couldn't be on time. We contact company as we were recommended at the beginning. That if something could happened on a way, but we will call, course they are understanding people. We called by our Danish mobile and apologise that we can not be on time. But who cares this s.... it cost us 329$!!!! Plus taxi to the centrum. We could not use free shuttle bus (next punishment). People who are working at this company are waiting for your mistakes to charge you as much as possible. No smiles, not help. Company should learn a lot about customer service. read more

This 4 star rating is for a trip we never made. We naively planned our RV trip with two young children without reviewing safety standards of RVs. In fact, they do not exist in the same way than for passenger vehicles and I highly encourage you to read the 2016 comments of the MANUFACTURERS ALLIANCE FOR CHILD PASSENGER SAFETY which is discouraging the transport of children in RVs. However, truth to be told, we had a standing contract with RoadBearRV. While they said that bringing children is no problem and happens all the time, they understood that the absence of federal regulation is a reason for us to cancel the contract. At this stage, less than 30 days until departure, we would have owed $300 minimum + 50% of the nightly charge. The team in the Bay Area was so kind to not charge us the 50% nightly rate and I appreciate their friendliness. Now, while $300 minimum charge is a hefty sum for nothing, the mistake was not on RoadBearRVs side and the decision solely ours. That they accommodated us in the way they did is something I value. We deliberately chose them because of their brand new models and their great standing with customers, and at least I can now say that they were fair to us. I really hope to rent from them in the future, e.g. in a scenario where just the two of us travel. Again my recommendation for any parent to do your due diligence prior to renting. Don't think about the best case scenario (nothing happens, everyone will be happy and just fine). Think about the outlier scenario in which there's a crash. Think about how you safeguard your children in your car and how they are protected by technology that is enacted by federal regularion. And now think about what that means if this is not as robustly in place with RVs. Thank you RoadBearRV for being fair with us. read more

My husband and I had never rented an RV before, but we were road trip warriors and wanted to take a 30 day road trip for our honeymoon. After many months of analyzing our options, it made the most sense for us to rent an RV, especially for that amount of time. We looked at El Monte, Cruise America, and RoadBear. Even though the cost was a bit higher with RoadBear, the reviews spoke for themselves. We decided to follow the advice of others and give RoadBear a try. WOW. Such a wonderful experience! We booked our adventure last October to get the "early bird" discount. You pay a $300 fee that goes toward your rental or is lost if you decide to cancel. We drove 6,300 miles in 30 days from San Francisco to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and back. There were so many small factors that made our experience better than expected, so I'll try to list them here. But overall, those small factors added up to an incredible experience, and that's what I'd like to pass on. Because we are local, we were allowed to pick up our RV early in the morning. VIDEO THE DEMO so if you have any questions, you can refer back to your video. Even if we didn't have that video, they provided everything you could ever need in a handy binder. And if that still doesn't help solve your issue, there was a 24/7 hotline you could call any time to get your issues handles. We never felt alone, intimidated, or stranded in this experience! We rented a Class C, 21 foot RV. This is the larger of the smallest Class C vehicles (either 19 feet or 21 feet). Our RV also had a slide out, which made all the difference! Ask for the slide out unit if you can! The RV is super intimidating to drive at first, but after a few days you'll get used to the wide vehicle and learning to turn with your back wheel. It was a piece of cake to navigate by the end of our journey, even on gravel roads or tight spaces. We had so many worries regarding charging our electronics and using the refrigerator while we're "dry camping" (i.e. not plugged in at a camp site), but we never had any issues. The battery in this camper is strong enough to power your devices, while the motor is off, for days! The refrigerator automatically changes from electricity to gas when you turn the RV off, so there's never anything you need to think about. We only filled the propane tank ONCE in the 30 days we used this, so we never felt like we were stranded or needed to find hook ups. We dry docked in many locations and felt we had everything we need. We used the generator many times, especially when we left our dog in the RV while we were out hiking, in order to maintain a normal temperature in the vehicle. It worked wonderfully!! The generator isn't too loud and at $3/hour, we spent less than $100 on the generator over 30 days. I will note that you need to have the AC turned OFF before turning the generator on (that took a few tries to figure out). Learning how to dump the gray water and black water tanks was easier than I expected. Never once did I get my hands dirty! If you do it properly, everything runs smoothly. We did have to dump at gas stations a few times, due to dry docking, but that was also a piece of cake (just don't breathe while dumping!!). We never ran out of fresh water, but we always made sure to top off our fresh water tank whenever we were at a site that had hookups. If you stay on top of it, it's very easy! We had a routine where one person would handle the outside of the RV and one person would handle the inside of the RV. In 20 minutes, you could easily be rolling out. When we returned the RV the RoadBear, we knew we'd have some issues to take care of. We had scratched a panel on the interior and one of the wall surroundings next to the pantry had popped off. We expected our $1,000 deductible to be gone. How surprised were we when they didn't charge us for either repair!! They noted that because these were easy repairs, they didn't feel the need to charge us. WOW! This is why RoadBear is the way to go! They don't nickel and dime you every inch of the way! They charged us the lowest cleaning fee available ($50) and nothing else. We got our deposit back easily with no hassle. We were out of there in less than half an hour. So impressed! We can't wait to rent an RV again and will only use RoadBear moving forward. Give them a shot and I know you won't regret it! read more

We did have issues with the local San Leandro staff, but overall it was a great experience that I would highly recommend. I'm was tempted to give them only 4 stars due to the way I was treated by the staff, but decided to keep them at 5 because the overall experience was still very positive. We rented the largest Class A RV because it was almost the same price as the Class C RV and the reservation agent offered to allow us to return it at 12 noon on our last day (instead of at 10am for their Class C RV's, which are in greater demand). The RV we got was in great condition and was a 2017 model with barely 11,000 miles on it. Everything was clean and in working order except possibly the grey water tank indicator which was inaccurate. At 30 ft long, it was actually easier to drive than I originally anticipated. Two slide-outs gave us plenty of living space. We are local to the Bay Area so we drove to the San Leandro Roadbear RV with our vehicle to drop off the family and all of our camping gear. I parked our vehicle at one of the long-term parking lots at the Oakland airport and then took Uber back to Roadbear to rejoin the family (one-way Uber fare only $5.24) and then head north to Samuel P Taylor state park. Since there is no long-term parking at or around the Roadbear facility this really worked out great for us. THE BAD: 1) The San Leandro staff initially demanded that we return the RV at 10:30am, ignoring what the reservation agent said about giving us a 12 noon return time. I had to haggle with them through the entire check-in process before they finally pulled up my original reservation form to confirm that was indeed the agreement, and only at that point did they finally agree to let me return it at 12 noon. 2) The employee who gave us the orientation didn't seem to care and went through everything very quickly. She also left the grey water valve open (after demonstrating to us how to open and close it), which gave us a wet surprise when we dumped our tanks for the first time (luckily it wasn't the black water tank...). 3) When we returned the vehicle the Roadbear employee who checked us in found two microscopic dimples on the windshield (each was located in a different area of the windshield). Your face had to be less than 6 inches from the windshield to see them, and there was certainly no crack in the glass. I am sure that we didn't encounter any rock impacts during our 4 days with the vehicle, much less two separate impacts. My own personal car has a number of similar dimples on its windshield, and I consider these to be normal wear-and-tear. I protested, as I am absolutely certain that these were pre-existing that the care-free employee (see 2. above) never saw during initial inspection, but the check-in employee wrote them up and was going to charge me for each of the two dimples. I have been a frequent business traveler who has rented hundreds of rental cars over my career, and I have never been charged for anything like this or treated in this way! After continued protests the employee went into the office and got a manager, who came out and stared at the two tiny windshield dimples for 10 minutes from the inside of the RV (you literally could not see the dimples from the outside of the vehicle--they were that small). I stood there with my hands on my hips watching the manager squint and make faces at the two invisible dimples. Finally, after 10 minutes he went back into the office, consulted another manager, and then decided not to charge me for the two invisible dimples. Overall, I decided to retain a 5-star review despite the terrible treatment by the local San Leandro staff. I would suggest anyone renting from this location to carefully inspect EVERYTHING in the RV, including any slight imperfections in the windshield, and make sure they are noted in the damage report when you check out the vehicle. read more

For the 1st time we rented a 24 footer Leprechaun RV during the summer from them and was very satisfied with the outcome despite it was expensive(not a lot) in comparison to other RV rentals. Here's quick highlight of my experience. 1) Good friendly customer service onsite and over the phone. I could always get hold of someone when called or via email(24hr or less turn around time) with any question. And they have an international crew to help you if your English skill is not great, provided someone there speak your language. 2) The RV orientation process took about an hour. They took the time to go over insurance, RV operation and fees etc... 3) RV is quite new and upscale, not cheesy like some competitor's RV you see on the road. I got a 2015 model with about 11K miles on it. You want something that's not beat up if you go far away especially in places that are hot. You can not take a chance on equipment failure. And if you do have problem, they have 24hr hot line you can call for help. 4) They charge you extra fees on top of the rental for generator use, propane use, mileage, and dump(black and grey water) fee if you don't empty the tank when returning your RV. That is fine since they let you know this way in advance so you should not be surprise if you have to pay extra. 5) I booked by calling this Hayward office directly instead of doing it online. When doing it online, it goes directly to their corporate office. 6) Some minor information on their web site is missing or not updated and inaccurate so I had to contact them to clarify. In all, good European rental company(Germany or Swedish?) to deal with. Hope you experience is just as good. Update: July 27, 2016. I should have updated this a long time ago. Roadbear is NO longer at the old Hayward Industrial location. They moved to the current San Leandro location about 1 year ago. I will never use this company again. Our RV was only a year old, but broke down several times. We had to pull off the road for 4 hours and get the van fixed in the middle of nowhere. The mechanic didn't know how to access the part he needed so he called Road Bear. Road Bear had no idea so the mechanic had to call the manufacturer. In the meantime he had to enter the RV and tear things apart. We rented the RV because my daughter has a chronic illness and we didn't want to be around people. We had to then sanitize the RV again. There were a lot of little things like the velcro on the cushions not being there so the cushions flew all over the place and a leaky hose. Three days before we were supposed to return the vehicle the refrigerator broke ruining all of our food. We didn't even bother to fix it because we were so done at that point. In the end they gave us three extra days for free, but added $1200 in additional fees. I was just so happy to get rid of the thing. Never again! read more

Roadbear were unethical and disgraceful! They seem good at first but will absolutely over charge on fabricated cleaning fees when you return the vehicle. We spent an entire day cleaning the vehicle after we rented it and they still charged us $700 for cleaning because they found some dust in the kitchen sink?! They told us that we are lucky because others were charged $1800. We've been going to Burning Man for 5 years with other companies and always returned the RV in this condition after a full day of cleaning and have NEVER been charged a cleaning fee (not a single dollar). We also had a faulty lock that broke and we had to pay for our of our own pockets despite the paperwork saying they'd fix and faulty items. I've had no problems with Cruise America previously - try them. Avoid Roadbear. Ganeshka at the San Leandro branch was particularly unhelpful. read more

Fantastic Experience. First off the RVs are in great shape, generally less than 18 months old, with low mileage, clean and detailed nicely. We had everything we needed and took the 29ft RV all over California. Road Bear does a nice job giving you an intro to the RV and getting you started. Every RV park we pulled into we had one of the nicest RVs there and many folks commented that they could not believe it was a rental. Upon return Road Bear was great. As always when you are living and driving in a vehicle of 10+ days little things happen. Road Bear treated us very fairly and made sure we were happy. Thank You. The RoadBearRV Rentals (RB) experience (Seeing bears on the road). Advertising with Quality & Service. Find the here story of my three week rental of a 26' Camper starting in LA (Agoura Hills). We had a good time but not because of RoadBearRVRentals. The Quality: 1. Fresh (city) water hose connection had a worn out helix (plastic made, not what I call Swiss-German quality! A better quality is placed now.) and caused the hose to come off at day 2. 2. At day 3 the fresh water tank started to leak somewhere inside the RV. Water coming out on various places including inside the back storage compartment and wetting (12V) cables next to the interior. 3. A minor one; two drawers locks were lame and opened all the time. The Service: After contacting RB about the hose connection they advised me to visit a RV Repair facility in (not so) nearby Flagstaff named Paul Evert's. Upon arrival at that place they told me being occupied for the coming two weeks and couldn't help me and by the way they had told RB earlier that unannounced visits for repairs are not welcome! My second contact with RB concerning the fresh water tank & repair refusal now outside office hours brought me in contact with someone in Auckland (New-Zealand) obviously much less aware of the situations at hand. Their advise please contact RB during office hours they have to advise on how to proceed. I did run into a repair facility advertised on a campground near Zion contacted them and asked their assistance with the note that RB needs to give approval for the eventual repairs. They came over after contacting RB to have a look and do the necessary and possible repairs but got also the message that front fees are not paid by RB. I reported the whole operation to RB by mail. The Care free aftermath: - We had to pay the front fee ($ 150). - No single compensation given for spending 1.5 days 'repairing'. - Complaining about liquid left in the black water tank (which we emptied half an hour before) seem to be part of the bashing tactic of RB in preparation to above and ..... - Got a fee of $755 for some weird, tiny, unexplainable stone slabs next to the drivers door, which we and RB missed during prior inspection and of which we are sure we didn't cause. Advice: Have your own repair kit at hand. Do a detailed prior inspection taking photographs of every minuscule deviation. Or look for another rental company .... read more

WARNING. The RV was clean, however, I was not happy with the staff at all. The shuttle came to get us the airport and the driver did not say ONE word to us. My children were trying to ask questions and we go no response at all. Then when we went to check in I was told that I was not signed up for the 500 mile package, which I had requested. Therefore, I would have to pay almost double for the miles that we used. Again, the staff was not friendly at all. Finally, our RV bathroom smelled every time you used it. We bought the required tablets, we asked professionals at the RV parks and it still smelled awful. It made the trip unpleasant when you flush the toilet and it smells like a sewer. The staff at Road Bear did not seem to care. Bottom line. If customer service is important to you then don't rent from Road Bear in Denver, Colorado! read more

Renting with them the worst decision ever. Some of the things in the RV weren't working and then tried to charge us for that. Be so careful with the special offers they advertise because some of the things are not included when you are picking up the rv. read more
