I went to Erin Michelle to get my hair cut about one month ago. I'm new to the area and needed to find someone to go to, and since I like alternative hairstyles, she seemed like a good fit. I called and left her a message and got a call back within a couple of hours. Her studio in Old Town Scottsdale was relatively easy to find. She was finishing with another client when I arrived, but she was very warm and friendly when greeting me, and I didn't mind waiting a few minutes. (She even offered me a beer which was a first for me. Awesome.) I had no idea how I wanted my hair cut, but she was very patient with me. We discussed it for a few minutes and I told her she had free reign. She was very personable, and we chatted about various things as she washed (she truly is amazing with the scalp massage) and cut my hair. In what felt like no time, she was finished. Then, she did a fantastic job styling it for me (which I was never able to replicate, unfortunately). This was the most I've paid for a haircut, but it was still reasonable, and worth it. I've received a lot of compliments on my hair in the past month. She also answered any questions I had about the products she was using, which I appreciated. Highly recommended. read more

Just had the best hair cutting/styling experience ever! Erin is incredibly approachable, sweet and very professional. She took the time to talk about my needs and helped me make a decision about my hair. I wanted something new but didn't want to make a huge, drastic change. We decided on a color and style and she went to work. She was quick but very detailed. She took the time to show me how to style it too. Also she was very honest about what different products do and there was NO sales pitch for any products. I found her studio to be so laid back, totally clean and very comfortable. When I very first moved to the valley I went to many different salons and I was never really impressed by the skills or service that I was paying for. When I met Erin, that all changed and I have been going to her for 6 years now! My husband and mother have even started seeing her within the last couple years too! Erin has impeccable attention to detail, focuses on hair health and strength, as well as takes the time to listen and explain any questions I have regarding hair upkeep, maintenance or styling. Erin is an EXCELLENT shop owner and stylist. She is open, personable, and a master of her craft. I'm always a little bit nervous going to someone new, but Erin spent time talking not only about what I'd like to do at this visit, but also encouraged me hang in there another month or two til my bangs are really grown out. I've been attempting to grow them out for about a year, and each time they hit this awkward stage, I get them cut again. Anyone who's ever grown out bangs, knows the last stretch is the WORST. She was horrible and inexperienced! Don't waste your time or money! I work in the area as a professional consultant and used Yelp to look her up before going to the Salon. All the ratings seemed great but one would suspect she must have had her personal friends rate her to make her look better. She didn't listen to me for what I wanted and left me sitting for far too long causing me to miss my next appoint for the day, which when I called her she assured me she could get done within the time I asked her. As for her "skills", not so great either. She kept ripping out my hair leaving my head soar and my color didn't come out right. I had to go back to my original salon and spend an additional $120, (on the other side of town) to have them correct her poorly done coloring job! As for her salon, not very professional environment at all! She kept talking on the phone on constantly using the "F" word and other profane language! Honestly, I felt like she was too unprofessional to have a shops. Stick to your mainstream salons if you want quality. In conclusion, reconsider going elsewhere if you want someone that can take instruction and has some class. Her photos from her website are so misleading, must have ripped off someone else work. I have very challenging hair - extremely thick and curly, but without a good pattern to the curl. And I do not like to spend a lot of time on my hair - I am very low maintainence. Erin first cut my hair last summer and gave me the best cut I have ever had - and color too. First the first time in my life - and I am 43 - I could manage my hair, without doing hardly a thing to it. I kept getting that cut until yesterday when I asked her to cut it shorter. I always where it long to weigh the curls down and make it more manageable, but I wanted to have something more playful for the summer. Well, Erin did it again - a new fabulous cut. A consistently great cut is what I get from Indielocks! Even when its time for a style change, Erin is ready with tips on how to maintain a great look. Get the shampoo, her scalp massages are amazing! She's also great with eyebrow/face waxes as well.
