Food was excellent, service was great, ambiance was nice. Really no complaints about anything. Is a bit unusual to like everything on a tasting menu but I actually did like everything, the presentation was great. Service was good, they did explain everything, folded napkin by the time we came back from restroom etc Didn't get the wine pairing so don't know about that

My goal is to try 50 new Chicago restaurants in 2025! Restaurant: 60/50 Month tried: October Favorite dish: Chicken makhni curry, lobster ghee, dal and naan We loved loved loved Indienne! The staff is awesome and so friendly. I absolutely love that they have meat, pescatarian, and vegetarian tasting menus. So often I come to Michelin restaurants and have to skip a beef or lamb course. My husband had the meat menu and I had the pescatarian. And, because I had no red meat in my tasting, the wine pairing had no red wine, either! Truly a fantastic experience to even have those options. The food itself was fantastic. From all the unique starting bites (curry leaf and mustard, avocado tamarind oreo, passionfruit bubble) to the delectable mains (lobster ghee, lamb and chicken for my husband, fish for me), and even the desserts (milk ice cream and bon bons!), everything was perfect, creative, and flavorful. The main course was served with a side bowl of lentil dal and naan, which we devoured, and our server was nice enough to bring us more. I left so full I thought I would burst, and so happy. I highly recommend.

A must try for modern Indian food lovers. All the dishes are well curated and unique. Service is impeccable.

Indienne absolutely exceeded every expectation. This was my first Michelin star tasting menu experience and it was unforgettable. The hospitality was outstanding and every course was beautifully crafted with so much creativity and intention. The spirit free pairing was incredible and elevated the entire experience. I enjoyed everything, but my favorites were the Pani Puri, Yogurt Chaat, Medu Vada, Chili Cheese Kulcha, Paneer Kofta, and Mango Delight. Each dish was rich in flavor and presented with so much detail. The balance of textures and spices was perfect. Overall, an exceptional dining experience from start to finish. I cannot wait to return and highly recommend Indienne to anyone looking for a thoughtful and memorable fine dining experience.

Was absolutely blown away by this restaurant! We had such a wonderful experience on so many levels. We were greeted warmly and the waitstaff took our coats to hang up. The restaurant decor looked upscale and minimalistic which I think embodies the simplicity of the menu. The drink menu was crafted beautifully; each cocktail is named after an ingredient (e.g. ginger) and captures the essence of that flavor. We tried several and enjoyed them greatly. We loved that they offered different tasting menus based on dietary restrictions; we tried the non-veg and veg menus. The dishes were absolutely incredible and beautifully plated. I think they truly captured the flavors of Indian cuisine well. We will definitely be back soon!

An experience of a kind, the staff and service lives up to its hype. Food was unique, beautiful, curated with care but few things on the menu lacked the flavor or pop hence my 4 stars. We had a big group and they were able to accommodate us last minute. We decided to go the multi course with ala carte drinks. This is one of those places that one should try atleast once.

Indienne very much sets the standard -- although does not exceed it -- for what a fine dining experience should be. The staff were incredibly kind and attentive, and above all well-coordinated. Our waiter provided well-rehearsed introductions to each of the dishes we encountered and thoughtfully answered each of our questions. The food provided a well-curated and at times playful tour through Indian cuisine. One of our initial dishes was a guava "gusher" that provided a provocative introduction to the meal. The main courses were mostly fantastic, although I found the scallop to just be okay. Perhaps ironically, one of my favorite dishes was a rather simple dal with an incredible depth of flavor. My group skipped the wine pairing and opted instead for cocktails, which were surprisingly extraordinary. My favorites were a whiskey and tamarind old fashioned as well as another mezcal-based drink. While the cocktails and food were both quite good, some of the flavors occasionally missed the mark. Moreover, the interactions with the staff were occasionally a bit stiff. Still, Inidenne was a spectacularly enjoyable meal and absolutely met my expectations for what a Michelin-starred restaurant should be.

Food that is not just food but a roller coaster ride down the memory lane. The dhokla that my Gujarati heart will always root for, to pani puri and chaat that stores numerous good times with various friends I made through this journey called Life. Along with South ka kokum influence drink... Well how could North India be missed - the best Kulcha I ever had to the finger liking paneer gravies (yeah the curry had paneer katli that was inspired by kaju katli). And just when we thought we were full, there appeared the dessert. The chef even had us try their research menu of desserts that had edible Chai and Coffee. Ambiance is cozy and perfect for date nights. Not loud and the interiors have lots of Instagram worthy clicks. In short the best meal of my lifetime! Thanks hubby for the surprise #michelin #michelinguide #michelinstar #chicago

Tasting menu: 1. Dhokla Aero - Curry Leaf, Mustard 2. Pani Puri - Passion Fruit, Green Apple, Buckwheat 3. Avocado Bhel - Tamarind, Black Rice 4. Yogurt Chaat - Mint, Rhubarb, Raspberry 5. Scallop Cafreal - Miso, Golden Kaluga, Corn Raab 6. Lamb Kebab - Shami, Ribs, Endive, Pickled Jicama 7. Chicken Makhni - Red Pepper Makhni, Fenugreek, Black Dairy Dal, Garlic Naan 8. Bal Mithai - Dulcey, Orange Murrabba, Milk Ice Cream 9. Filter Coffee Bon Bon, Huckleberry Jelly, Bhapa Doi Tart I had no idea what I was eating 90% of the time but the flavors and textures were very interesting and unique in a good way. The few things I'm familiar with such as scallop, naan, and kebab were perfect. I still think about the Chicken Makhni. Criticisms: majority of the courses were sweet. Quantity-wise, I'd prefer a balance or more savory than sweet dishes. Also, ultimately, not very filling but maybe I have a bigger stomach. No issues with service. Ambience was fine, nothing special.

Excellent location, easy walk from Michigan avenue. Beautiful, airy interior. Tables not smashed together, allowing privacy. Staff were great, sommelier on site if you need help. 10 course meal for every dietary palate. Everything but the main course was like an amuse-bouche. The main dish a tiny bit more substantial. The entire meal is curated, so if you're a big eater, don't expect to gorge here. As a diner, I could taste and smells the SUBTLE Indian flavors but as an Indian, the food was definitely catered to the western palate. That being said, I'm glad that the spiciness and robust Indian flavors did not punch me in the face (like it usually does). My radish cocktail was beautiful. The TASTE reminded me of the SMELLS of India. That drink was beautiful. Go for the experience, only 3 Michelin star Indian restaurants in all of the US?

Oh my... Where do I begin... This was a great night. I was wrapping up my visit in Chicago and wanted a dinner by myself, but I wanted a nice dinner, a treat after a stressful week where I could just savor the experience and sink into relaxation. A friend recommended I'd try to get a reservation at this place. I got one, first seating of the evening. I must say that this was unlike any other Indian food I've ever had. Sure, the core flavors, spices and concepts were the same, but the elevation of each piece of food was just incredible! From the first amuse-bouche to the very last little sweet treat arriving with the check. Everything on the plate had a purpose, every layer a part to play, every pinch of spice adding to the complex yet familiar flavors that exploded in my mouth. The servers added to the experience. They were there at the right time, without hovering. They cleared plates without asking "are you done" because they could tell. They lingered just long enough after presenting each dish or drink to allow for a conversation to be stared if you wanted, but also allow you to just dive into the food without it feeling rude or being an awkward silence. The dining room was filled with buzzing hushed conversations, just enough to hear a word here or there from the tables nearby, but never so loud as to take away from the intimate experience. I had the meat option tasting menu with the spirit-free drink pairing. I need to come back and try the vegan one as I am sure it is as amazing and vegan Michelin starred options are not that common. I highly recommend you try a pre-dinner cocktail. The way they incorporate "throwaway" ingredients from the kitchen is super fun and unexpectedly yummy! All in all, this was a great night, a fantastic end to my week. I am leaving Chicago on a very happy note.

Chef Sarkar never ceases to amaze with his unique take on Indian classics! The tasting menu was absolutely banger! 100% recommend! The Xec Xec scallops were an absolute treat to look as well as eat! The staff really look after you. It was my birthday and they made it so special. Will be coming back soon! Be sure to reserve a month in advance, it's hard to get a table!!

Had a phenomenal experience here - we got the non-vegetarian tasting menu plus a few cocktails and mocktails. The highlights for me were the Scallop Xec Xec, Lobster ghee roast, Lamb Nihari, and the spicy guava spritz (mocktail). The only thing I wasn't a huge fan of was the chicken katli, but that's probably only because I'm not a fan of any type of pate or liver. Service was excellent ~ knowledgeable, attentive, welcoming, and professional yet friendly, which was really refreshing - not pretentious or overly formal. Ambience/decor is understated but classy. One of the best dining experiences I've had at a Michelin-starred restaurant. Logistics wise, you definitely need a reservation and to pay a deposit up front, and they do automatically charge a 20% gratuity and 4% service charge. If you want something casual, the bar seating is first come first served, where you can order items a la carte (no tasting menu).

Yes! They have vegan tasting menu.

How long does the tasting menu normally take?

2 hours but it's not worth it. Save your money.

Not really. You should leave your kids at home.

It is definitely unique, creative, and a massive differentiator from any other cocktail bar I've been to. Now, let's talk cocktails! The creativity of the interior extends into the menu. Unlike some places that just make variations of existing classics (except for items specifically so named, like the Old Fashioned or Espresso Martini), all of their cocktails are unique and interesting. Time for a punch card? I ordered the Maximillian the Imposter. While I'm not typically a fan of banana (except for banana bread), I thought I'd step out of my comfort zone, and I wanted to try something 'flaming'. Flaming it was! The preparation of the drink involved a surprising amount of fire. I initially thought this was just for show, but no, this translated into a noticeable smoky flavor. Beyond that, the drink was strong, not overly sweet, and an all-around delight. There was one bartender on the night I was here, and while it was busy, I was still able to get my drink in a reasonable amount of time. I also feel as though they have reasonable prices, especially considering the quality and the market rates. King of Cups gets busy, and for good reason: they are an all-around phenomenal place, from the drinks to the vibe, and everything in between. A guitarist sits somewhere against a brick wall and plays music lightly but energetically. Service is friendly from start to finish and smiles are on everyone's faces. The menu is pretty easy to understand. You can get a three-course meal, or you can get each entree à la carte. You have two fondue candles in front of you, one for the cheese and dessert, and the other for the oil. We chose the three-course meal, and it was delightful. We started with the cheese appetizer. You get a basket of bread and fruit and we chose the seasonal cheese to dip. The oil for our meat was then left to heat, and we received a massive platter of veggies and meats for our main course. We chose the option for all selections of meat and seafood. After trying all the meats, I would opt for the lobster and shrimp. You can also substitute the oil for a broth. I would like to try the broth for next time. In one of the shakers, Gejas makes their own meat spice mix. It's recommended to put on the meats and even the desserts. It's a mix of tangy and savory and was a great compliment to the meal. We then chose the seasonal dessert, a white chocolate with vanilla cookies. Fruit, marshmallows, and churros to dip. We were so full by the time dessert came, but we enjoyed a few bites and took it home. The three-course meal, with five types of meat, came with about 10 pieces of meat. It doesn't look like a lot of food, but it truly is, with the apps, veggies, etc, your stomach will be full when you walk out of here. They also start the entire course with a mixed salad (so technically it's a four-course meal). It was very fairly priced, as well. Initially looking at the prices, you may think it's expensive, but it truly is a value with the amount of food they serve. This was rated as most romatic restaurant in Chicago. Its ambiance gives you the romantic feel, the guitarist adds to the atmosphere, and the staff is professional and friendly. This really was a great place and we enjoyed our time and meal.

Not many Michelin starred restaurants can pull that off on a Monday, but Esmé always seems to have energy. This place has become one of our most reliable favorites. They change the menu a few times a year in conjunction with rotating local artists, and the restaurant itself feels more like a refined art gallery than a traditional dining room with white walls, clean lines, simple and elegant. Last night was no exception to their usual excellence. The experience is really anchored by Chris Gerber, a longtime Chicago hospitality pro, and his team. They are flawless. This is true hospitality in every sense of the word. They usually keep two signature dishes, and for good reason. The caviar supplement sounds odd on paper, but in your mouth it is absolute perfection. The cod sounds simple, but it is anything but, rich, decadent, and always one of the highlights. Everything new on this menu was also outstanding. Every course had beautifully balanced sauces that made sense with the dish, and the presentations were creative without being gimmicky or over the top. The plating always ties in with the featured artist in a way that feels thoughtful, not forced. One tip. Be careful when choosing your beverage pairing. We did not read closely enough and ended up with the more inventive pairing that included cocktails and a beer. It was fun, but afterward we wished we had gone with the higher end wine pairing instead. Bottom line. Esmé remains one of the most consistent Michelin starred experiences in Chicago. To echo several of the reviews below, the salad was awkward to share and scanty, the soup was good but the bread served with it felt like an afterthought, the sturgeon wasn't anything special though the sauce was quite good, and we are pretty sure the cut of beef was not wagyu or if it was it was not cooked the right way. The beef was the most disappointing part, I couldn't even chew through all of it. The add-ons were the best part - pasta was great and our dessert was delicious. But the rest of the meal was unfortunately mediocre. Hoping that others have a different experience with the regular menu!

Great dinner here tonight - had the mussels, burger, and octopus. All were exceptional. The drinks…read morewere also very good, and the service was awesome. Great meal overall.

Chicago Restaurant week. I reviewed various dining options in search of a good place for dinner…read more Reddit gave me some ideas. I'd never been to Willow Room and liked that they had a four course dinner menu, with items I liked. I was able to make a reservation for a Saturday night at 8:15pm. PARKING Parking on Halsted on a Saturday night can be a nightmare, and it did take a minute to find street parking. North of the 1800 block is busier because there are several restaurants within a two block radius. Side streets are permit parking after 6pm. Meters on Halsted are $2.50/hr. ATMOSPHERE Willow Room was pretty packed. We had a reservation for 8:15pm and my party of two was seated right away. The restaurant features a full bar, dim lighting and is nice and roomy. They have banquette seating around the perimeter, in addition to tables in the middle. SERVICE Our server, who was very nice and accommodating during our dining experience, came by and gave us our menu's. I had already decided on the RW menu and after review, my friend was interested in the Beef Wellington (not on RW menu). Our server informed us that normally the whole table had to order off of the RW menu if one person does, but said she would check with the kitchen since this was the last day of RW. Luckily, we were able to proceed with ordering from different menu's. FOOD I ordered a raspberry Cosmopolitan. I'm a Riesling/Moscato girlie, but I tasted the Riesling and didn't like it. RW dinner was priced at $60. I ordered: First Course: Caesar Salad (Typical salad, was good) Second Course: Mussels (Tasted fine, came with a baguette) Third Course: Short Rib (Could've been slightly more tender and better seasoned. I've definitely had better. Wouldn't order again.) Fourth Course: Orange Ricotta Donuts (Donuts were very good. Three were served, a few more would have been more filling.) My friend ordered a glass of Pinot Noir and: Truffle Fries (Fries were very tasty. I would order again if I went back.) Beef Wellington (The breading was buttery and very good. The beef could've been more seasoned. I wouldn't order.) Key Lime Pie (Was not sweet and had no taste. When our server came back and saw it was uneaten, she offered to take it off the bill. It should be removed from the menu altogether.) The busboys and server were very attentive. Our water glasses were always filled. OVERALL The atmosphere was nice, our server was great. Of all the food we ordered, I would order the truffle fries and Cosmopolitan again. I did leave full and did take my leftover Short Rib to go. Main dishes needed more seasoning. I would dine here again and try a different menu (brunch/lunch), or Happy Hour if they offer it.
