Got the saag, paneer pasanda, naan and couple appetiters. The naan was by far the worst naan I've ever had in a nice restaurant. Very very disappointing but the curries were pretty good. The paneer tasted super fresh. The dishes were not too different... it tasted like good Indian food. Just couldn't enjoy with the bad naan. The vibes were nice and so was the service. Please make better naan and we would make this a must visit during our Chicago visits.

Roop was fantastic. We had refreshing cocktails to start: Malabar Old Fashioned, Hyderabad Tonic and pink city all yummy. For appetizers we had crab cakes, sweet potato chaat, and chilli cheese kulcha, all excellent. For main courses we had lamb shank Nihari, butter chicken, and Ghee roast prawns. Service was top notch and the decor was fancy yet inviting. We had the celebration dessert and left very full and happy. Would come back here again in a heartbeat.

Leaning more 3.5 stars. Went for restaurant week to try different dishes! The avocado bhel was delicious. Didn't care too much for the second course of Dahi ke Kebab - it lacked flavor and the texture i side of the yogurt was interesting. Definitely gets points for creativity though! The main course on tandoori cauliflower and palak paneer was very good. Their naan is phenomenal. Dessert- everything was so so good! Can't go wrong with any option. Service was good. Pretty quick. The place is beautiful ambiance wise. I'd visit again for sure to try some other things!

Easily one of our best meals in Chicago. Funny enough, we actually walked past ROOP the night before on our way to demolish burgers at Au Cheval, glanced at the menu, and said, "Yep, we're coming back here." And we did. Best decision of the trip. Instant confidence boost when I saw several Indian families dining there. That's the universal sign you've found the spot. Authenticity confirmed. We tried a few mocktails, every single one was balanced, flavorful, and way more interesting than your usual "juice with a lime wedge" situation. The food? Absolutely killer. Every dish came out loaded with flavor. You really can't go wrong with good Indian food but at ROOP, you get that and a vibe. It's the kind of place that makes you feel a little fancy. The restaurant itself is quite nice, upscale. I totally get why they made the Michelin list in 2021. If you're craving Indian food and an atmosphere that screams "date night material", ROOP's your move.

This is a great restaurant for progressive Indian food. The best part is that you can easily get a reservation even for a large group. We were a party of 10 for a Diwali dinner. I really liked that they've updated their menu -- it's modern and creative. For drinks, we ordered Road to Kerala, Malabar Old Fashioned, and Pink City. All were equally good. For food, we had Dahi Puri (6 pieces), Dal Makhani which was my favorite and tasted very close to authentic Indian flavors, Chicken malai Tikka(okayish), and Lamb Nihari, which was flavorful and rich. The ambiance is beautiful. Overall, I definitely recommend this place.

I was really excited to come to Roop because I love Indian food in all its forms, whether it's traditional, fusion, experimental, or just Indian-inspired cocktails. The meal definitely delivered some highs and a couple of dishes I'd skip, but overall it was a fun night. The chili cheese kulcha was incredible, warm and gooey and the kind of thing you immediately want more of. It paired well with the butter chicken. Shrimp koliwada was one of my favorites of the night with that smoky tandoori flavor. The Goan crab cakes came with a thick rich gravy that I really liked even if the crab itself was a little more subtle. Butter chicken was good, creamy and comforting, but not as memorable as some of the other plates. The lamb shank nihari was tender but flavor-wise didn't wow me. Dessert was the star. The gulab jamun cheesecake was the perfect ending and honestly worth the trip alone. For drinks I had the Hot n' Gold cocktail with passion fruit, tequila, and chili mango purée. It was so delicious I ordered a second one. Our waiter was attentive and super nice the whole night. The ambience was dimly lit and just right for a date night. We were seated upstairs and the space turned out to be bigger than we expected. I'd come back for the small plates, cocktails, and definitely the gulab jamun cheesecake!

this restaurant with Michelin plate recognition (awarded in 2020 shortly after its opening as Rooh in 2019) is worth a visit for sure. Good customer service, clean fresh ingredient cooking. Celebrated my husbands bday while we're traveling to Chicago, I appreciated that they allowed our kids (7 year old and a baby) contrary to most restaurants that had any Michelin recognition (Indienne was a flat no). Apparently The restaurant rebranded its core experience to ROOP in 2024, introducing a refined 8-course tasting menu designed in collaboration with Michelin-starred Chef Mike Cornelissen. We have not tried the tasting menu, should consider booking that in the future! We dined as regulars, and I would say the experience was decent. Dahi puri, sweet potato chaat and jackfruit biryani was exceptionally good. The vegetable kebab plate was not good at all, not a single item on it. I'm a little surprised it didn't get taken off our bill despite me mentioning it 2-3 times when asked, usually with a strong customer service this has been the usual experience. The naan and wheat roti was good, the paneer pasanda and dal makhani (Roop daal) was ok ish. My son loved the mango sorbet which they were nice enough to bring with a candle as complimentary. Cocktails were amazing, I tried the Malabar old fashioned. Overall worth coming again for the vegetarian tasting menu experience again I feel.

This is a becoming my regular spot in west loop for a cocktail happy hour! Drinks featured are fun twists on classics and definitely a must visit if you're looking to venture a little out of your comfort zone. I always just sit at the bar and the mixologists are fantastic to talk to. I personally don't like super loud and crowded cocktail lounges but thats the typical scene in any West loop spot. ROOP, however, is not...so definitely a gem in my books!

Food was fabulous. As an Indian going to an Indian restaraunt with my family we are often times dissapointed by the lack of authenticity but this place had some incredible little fusion dishes that had genuinely authentic flavors mixed in with the chefs own twist on Many dishes. Even the Indian-twist cocktails were fabulous!

Beautiful ambience, delicious modern/elevated Indian food, and excellent service! The cocktails were also excellent! I had the tumeric infused gin drink and loved it! We ordered the sweet potato chat, jackfruit cutlets, mushroom truffle kulcha, and dahi kebob and they were all sooo good! We also ordered the tandoori cauliflower, avocado raita, roop dal and saag for the main entree which were also all very tasty. Definitely do not skip on dessert! The molten chocolate dessert was to die for.

2.5/5. I really wanted to continue loving this place but really, it's just meh. The food is also deteriorating in quality and quantity. The paneer was so hard I couldn't even chew into it! Saving grace is their daal which is still pretty good. The servers and management are pretty rude. When I used to come here with Sujan Sakar the place was pretty amazing. Losing its touch now. Wouldn't accommodate wouldn't update their style or philosophy or even keep good food. Such bland food! Slow service. Disappointed. Go to Indienne

After hearing great things about Roop from some friends, we were eager to give it a try, and it did not disappoint. I liked their vintage Indian aesthetics, which created a warm and inviting atmosphere. The decor set the perfect tone for a cozy, yet refined dining experience. The staff were friendly and attentive. For appetizers, we opted for the much-talked-about Chilli Cheese Kulcha and Kerala Chicken. The Chilli Cheese Kulcha was a standout--soft, and packed with the perfect balance of cheesiness. It definitely lived up to the hype. The Kerala Chicken, on the other hand, while tasty, didn't quite capture the authentic flavors of Kerala cuisine. That said, it was still flavorful. We also ordered two cocktails, and I must say, the Kerala-inspired drink we had was exceptional. Though I can't recall its exact name, it was refreshing and packed with bold, unique flavors that complemented our meal beautifully. For our mains, we tried the Tandoori Cauliflower, which came highly recommended. The curry had a wonderful flavor that was rich and complex. However, the cauliflower could have been cooked a bit longer to achieve a slightly more tender texture. That said, the seasoning was spot on, and it was a dish we still thoroughly enjoyed. Next up was the Butter Chicken, a classic dish that certainly did not disappoint. The creamy sauce was perfectly balanced, and the chicken was tender and juicy. It was a definite highlight of the meal. We also ordered Butter Pao and Garlic Naan to accompany our main courses. The Butter Pao was delicious, though I felt it could have been just a touch softer. The Garlic Naan, while decent, didn't quite stand out in the same way the other dishes did--still, it was a nice accompaniment to the flavors of the Butter Chicken. For dessert we ordered the saffron cheesecake, it was a lot of flavours which were a bit all over the place, however it had a unique fusion of flavours. As for pricing, we found it quite reasonable given the quality of the food and the overall dining experience. Roop strikes me as the perfect spot for a date night or an anniversary celebration. The ambiance is intimate, the food is flavorful (even if a few dishes could be tweaked), and the service is top-notch.

The first course included swiss Gruyère cheese fondue with assorted breads, vegetables and fruits. I really liked how there was 8 different side sauces brought out so you could add some more flavor to the meat and seafood. The last course was chocolate fondue served with marshmellows and a side of fire. It was as if you were making smores because it also came with some graham cracker sprinkles. A guitarist sits somewhere against a brick wall and plays music lightly but energetically. Service is friendly from start to finish and smiles are on everyone's faces. The menu is pretty easy to understand. You can get a three-course meal, or you can get each entree à la carte. You have two fondue candles in front of you, one for the cheese and dessert, and the other for the oil. We chose the three-course meal, and it was delightful. We started with the cheese appetizer. You get a basket of bread and fruit and we chose the seasonal cheese to dip. The oil for our meat was then left to heat, and we received a massive platter of veggies and meats for our main course. We chose the option for all selections of meat and seafood. After trying all the meats, I would opt for the lobster and shrimp. You can also substitute the oil for a broth. I would like to try the broth for next time. In one of the shakers, Gejas makes their own meat spice mix. It's recommended to put on the meats and even the desserts. It's a mix of tangy and savory and was a great compliment to the meal. We then chose the seasonal dessert, a white chocolate with vanilla cookies. Fruit, marshmallows, and churros to dip. We were so full by the time dessert came, but we enjoyed a few bites and took it home. The three-course meal, with five types of meat, came with about 10 pieces of meat. It doesn't look like a lot of food, but it truly is, with the apps, veggies, etc, your stomach will be full when you walk out of here. They also start the entire course with a mixed salad (so technically it's a four-course meal). It was very fairly priced, as well. Initially looking at the prices, you may think it's expensive, but it truly is a value with the amount of food they serve. This was rated as most romatic restaurant in Chicago. Its ambiance gives you the romantic feel, the guitarist adds to the atmosphere, and the staff is professional and friendly. This really was a great place and we enjoyed our time and meal.

I'd never been to Willow Room and liked that they had a four course dinner menu, with items I liked. I was able to make a reservation for a Saturday night at 8:15pm. PARKING Parking on Halsted on a Saturday night can be a nightmare, and it did take a minute to find street parking. North of the 1800 block is busier because there are several restaurants within a two block radius. Side streets are permit parking after 6pm. Meters on Halsted are $2.50/hr. ATMOSPHERE Willow Room was pretty packed. We had a reservation for 8:15pm and my party of two was seated right away. The restaurant features a full bar, dim lighting and is nice and roomy. They have banquette seating around the perimeter, in addition to tables in the middle. SERVICE Our server, who was very nice and accommodating during our dining experience, came by and gave us our menu's. I had already decided on the RW menu and after review, my friend was interested in the Beef Wellington (not on RW menu). Our server informed us that normally the whole table had to order off of the RW menu if one person does, but said she would check with the kitchen since this was the last day of RW. Luckily, we were able to proceed with ordering from different menu's. FOOD I ordered a raspberry Cosmopolitan. I'm a Riesling/Moscato girlie, but I tasted the Riesling and didn't like it. RW dinner was priced at $60. I ordered: First Course: Caesar Salad (Typical salad, was good) Second Course: Mussels (Tasted fine, came with a baguette) Third Course: Short Rib (Could've been slightly more tender and better seasoned. I've definitely had better. Wouldn't order again.) Fourth Course: Orange Ricotta Donuts (Donuts were very good. Three were served, a few more would have been more filling.) My friend ordered a glass of Pinot Noir and: Truffle Fries (Fries were very tasty. I would order again if I went back.) Beef Wellington (The breading was buttery and very good. The beef could've been more seasoned. I wouldn't order.) Key Lime Pie (Was not sweet and had no taste. When our server came back and saw it was uneaten, she offered to take it off the bill. It should be removed from the menu altogether.) The busboys and server were very attentive. Our water glasses were always filled. OVERALL The atmosphere was nice, our server was great. Of all the food we ordered, I would order the truffle fries and Cosmopolitan again. I did leave full and did take my leftover Short Rib to go. Main dishes needed more seasoning. I would dine here again and try a different menu (brunch/lunch), or Happy Hour if they offer it.
