Never got pierced here before, but my best friend and I came here on a whim Wednesday night a little before 6 pm to get our nose pierced. We were greeted and helped right away and the woman helping us answered a lot of our questions. I let my piercer know right away that I get flush and dizzy when I give blood and also post tongue and naval piercings. Never actually fainted before, but felt really close to it a couple times. She assured me that it was gonna be all good and I'd be lying down during the procedure. The piercing itself wasn't bad at all. It felt exactly how I thought it would and shed one small involuntary thug tear. It happens. Of course after the piercing I started to feel exactly how I thought I would, but Marina let me lie back until I felt comfortable enough to sit up. She gave me a jolly rancher and everything was all good. Not sure if it's just the anatomy of my nose or what, but she placed the stud in the most perfect spot. It's now Friday and it doesn't hurt or bother me at all. Thanks Marina, for being easy going and making the experience super chill for us. I'll come back for my septum piercing in the near future. They made me feel at ease and were able to answer any questions that I had. The building is a little sketchy looking outside, but inside it's so cute!!! Eh I don't really feel like this place is amazing. I came in with a friend and we waited about an hour to be pierced when the shop seemed to be relatively empty. I will say our piercer, Marina, was very thorough and I liked her. I wish I would have been explained pricing prior to piercing. When I reviewed my receipt I saw that I was charged for the top part of the piercing (the jewel), then I was also charged for the back part of the jewelry. I got a double helix so these things added up. All in all, I paid $115 for a double helix piercing including tip. I will say, i am pleased with the piercing however it is mostly due to the jewelry--I could get this style of piercing anywhere. On the plus side, I was given sea salt to use for aftercare, which I've never experienced before. Will I be back? Can't say for sure. read more

Marina pierced both of my nipples and she was ABSOLUTELY amazing. I've wanted to get a more intimate piercing for a while now and finally decided on my nipples. I found out about the shop on YELP and seen that had really positive reviews. My best friend and I spontaneously went in one day and I was BEYOND nervous. At first I only wanted to get one done. It, after the first one didn't hurt, I decided to get nothing done. And I'm so glad I did. Marina was very gentle and calm, even though I was a wreck. She walked me through the procedure every step of the way and promised not to do anything without my acknowledgement i.e a surprise poke to make the procedure "easier". She's so skilled, I was surprised the first one was finished because she was so gentle. She answered all my silly, outlandish questions and made so I had all the appropriate after care treatment. I initially came by here for a helix piercing on a Sunday around 6, and after waiting in line a short bit I was told they were done with piercings for the day, so they gave me a coupon to use when I came back - which I did, the next Friday around 3. I picked out jewelry while Lysa prepped; she asked if I had any questions and re-arranged the mark on my ear when I said I'd prefer it lower. It was so quick and less painful than I expected! I left with a small bottle of Dr Broner's and a big can of saline spray, and the cutest helix piercing! I love it! I also called about 5 days after when I started to see discoloration, and the person who talked with me said I could come in if it didn't fade, as it was likely a bruise - I was very reassured, and sure enough it has faded. I got my nipples pierced by josh a couple of days ago and it was a kickass experience, when I got to the shop there was an hour wait to get pierced, which went by super fast since the shop is located right near a few of my favorite little stores, I spent the entire time browsing at the buffalo exchange. The ladies at the front counter who's names I didn't catch were polite, pleasant and informative, the shop itself looked squeaky clean from top to bottom, and when it was time to go back and get pierced I don't know what I was expecting, but after seeing him have back to back piercings for the hour that I was there I guess I wasn't expecting josh to take so much time explaining the process and aftercare and making me feel comfortable, he wasn't rushed or hurried at all, and I've never really had a bad experience with a piercer but with piercings it's easy sometimes to just do a wham bam thank you ma'am and hand someone an aftercare sheet. Josh isn't like that. So for a first timer who is kind of on the edge about a piercing I would definitely recommend him, he'll take the time to answer all your questions. Love coming here to get pierced! I came here twice to get my piercings - the first time was for my tragus and second time for my conch. For both of them, Marina did the piercings and she did a great job! She was very friendly and answered all the questions very knowledgeably and made it a very comfortable process. I don't know if it's because she's great at what she does or if I have a high pain tolerance, but getting my conch and tragus pierced didn't really hurt! As for the store itself, the jewelry can be a bit pricey, but a lot of very nice styles! The material ranges from titanium to white gold to rose gold to yellow gold and more! Went back to Industrial in 2018 to fix a cartilage piercing where my ear had grown over the flat backing. I was unfortunately paired with Heidi, who after inspecting my ear was incredibly rude and condescending. She asked why I hadn't come in to see someone earlier (mind you, this happened at the start of winter break and I wasn't even in the States during then, and by that time my ear had completely grown over the backing already), and claimed that there was nothing she could do, on grounds of her being 'uncomfortable' with the procedure. Even before the appointment I was assured by the lady at the counter that they could push it through the back and replace the post with a longer one to prevent the ear from closing over the backing again. After reaming me out Heidi basically kicked me out of the piercing room, and made a huge scene in front of the other customers in the shop. No one apologized for her behavior either, though someone else at the counter reassured me that they in fact could get it done, and told me to come back the day after when someone else could take a look at my piercing. This is all after I had waited around 45 minutes to be called in. It's a shame. I really did enjoy my initial piercing experience here with Marina, though it's unlikely I'll ever return due to the unprofessional service, overpriced fees and incredibly long wait times. Reading through previous reviews, this isn't even the first time she's freaked out on a customer and treated them like crap, which calls into question why nothing's been done about it before. read more

Can we hit the bar first? Rachel H: They can't do it if you're drunk. So, we went. Sober. ...and I got my eyebrow pierced. The guy put two dots on my face and asked me if it looked right. I said yes, though I couldn't really tell. He was funny and friendly...and was totally patient with my questions about what would happen if he had a needle that close to my eye and there was an earthquake. Well, it didn't hurt at all. I have no idea if he was just that good or this is more evidence that I have a very high pain tolerance. ...and it's in the perfect spot! My friend got her bellybutton ring reopened (he didn't have to pierce it again) and she's happy with the result too. I've followed the cleaning and care instructions and 4 weeks later, I still love it, my eye has not turned into a puss filled globule and dropped out of its socket, and there's still no pain. Note: Getting your eyebrow pierced may lead to your father asking if the natives are getting restless in Berkeley and calling you pinhead. DERMAL PIERCINGS BEWARE If I could give Industrial Tattoo no stars I would! My experience here was the worst experience I have ever had at a piercing shop. I went into the shop to get a dermal on the top of my wrist, not the best place, but I am still a paying customer. So it was to my surprise when the piercer and the cashier snickered at my choice and then proceeded to tell me in a patronizing way "the area where you want to get your piercing isn't the best place". Like I didn't already know. It gets a whole lot better. Lysa, the lady who pierced me, who is also part owner I found out, took me into the back and proceeded to pierce my wrist COMPLETELY OFF CENTER. Then when I mentioned it she got a huge attitude with me and annoyingly said "I guess I could take it out and redo it so it is actually in the center". The piercing cost me close to $100. Was it too much to ask for it to be in the goddamn center of my wrist!? So she did it again in a very unpleasant manner. And made me pay full price. Also the way she was treating me lead me to believe I was the unreasonable one. Once I left and chatted with a friend I realized the situation was completely not my fault and she should have at least apologized or discounted me since now I will have a lovely off center scar due to her sloppy piercing job. I tried to call and let the other owner know what occurred, but surprise surprise he was too busy and was supposed to call me back... never happened. So just a word to the wise don't get piercings here that you would like somewhat in the center. And if you do have a complaint they don't even care, so don't waste your time like me and try calling, just write a review in hopes some other person might not have the same experience. read more

Lysa! U Rock! She did my eyebrow piercing today and she knew what she was doing! The procedure took only a few minutes. Only negative though was the wait. It took about 30-40 minutes. Lysa also explained to me how to take care of the piercing by soaping/rinsing it everyday and to soak it in salt water. I would come back if I decide on something else to pierce. I guess it depends on who you get for your piercer. But I got 2 piercings on my left upper ear. About less than a year ago. My friend and I just decided to one day to get piercing on impulse and this shop was the closest one to my house. Huge mistake! I knew something went wrong from the moment this girl pierced my ear. The second piercing she did, she hesitated right before she pierced it. I was not even moving or anything. She just stopped for NO REASON! And then a second later she pierced it. The second piercing is actually like 45 degree to my skin I actually did not possibly think it was possible this can happen. Before it happened to my ear after I noted that it's not straight, they said it looks fine and they can pierce it again without charge!! Hello?? Why don't you pierce it right the first time?? Anyway after almost a year, it has been always uncomfortable to sleep and I have 2 little bumps on back of my ear. Yesterday I was prepared to write a scathing review of this place, but I figured I should wait until I went back today before I said anything I might regret. I'm glad I waited. Today was my fourth visit to Industrial. The first was in August when Lysa gave me a nostril piercing. The receptionist was very friendly and helpful in picking out jewelry (after some contemplation, she expressed concern that the stud I'd chosen might slip through the hole in my nose -- an important factor to consider.) Lysa was incredibly professional and personable. She was patient with me as we figured out the placement, and was horrified by the incompetence of my last piercer (different location). The procedure was quick and as painless as a needle through the nostril can be, and I didn't hear that hideous popping sound as it punctured the cartilage, so that's always a plus. I know some people are bothered by shops that seem too sterile, but I think that's completely ridiculous. I'd much rather feel like I was in a doctor's office than a slaughterhouse. Okay, moving on to visit number two. I had a cat scan on my brain scheduled for the afternoon, so I went in around noon to have a glass retainer put in my nose. Again, Lysa was awesome and said that she hoped my "brain's okay" (it is). She said the piercing was healing really well, which is always comforting. I was in and out in 10 minutes, and they only charged my five bucks (+ 8 for the retainer). She said she'd put my stud back in for free when I got back. Visit number three: A very bad time. My friend and I went in to have my retainer removed and a new piece of jewelry inserted. The receptionist was kind of snippy this time, but she did smile at me when she said to come back in an hour. So we killed some time and returned. And waited. And waited. The receptionist didn't even acknowledge my presence. Finally Lysa when up to the desk and I thought, "Yay! She's ready for me!", but I guess she wasn't because she turned around and went back into the room. After an additional hour, I gave up. I went to the counter and asked a guy if I could just buy the jewelry and go. Because this isn't your standard bone stud or nose screw, I was concerned about putting it in myself, but he said it would just snap into place. My friend asked if he was planning to charge me for the back, and he quipped, "I haven't charged her for anything yet." Blonde receptionist was nowhere to be seen at this point. So, we get back to the house and I ask my friend if she'll stay while I'm putting in the new stud. Boy, did she regret saying yes to that one. It was a disaster. Not only was it a pain just getting the retainer out, but it was impossible to get the new stud in. My poor, horrified friend was poking around the inside of my nostril trying to find the hole (I gave up after 4 tries), and when she finally found it, she couldn't get the jewel in. We took turns trying until she gave up and tried the internet and I went looking for a hammer to jam the damn thing in. Dejected and frustrated, I give in and called Industrial. "Hi, I have a quick question." "You'd better make it quick." "Um, okay, I'm trying to get this stud in my nose and it won't go in all the way. Am I supposed to use some special tool or something?" "No, you should be able to snap it in. You're going to have to come here and have a piercer do it." "I was there today waiting for two hours. The guy told me I could put it in myself." "Well, some people can, and some people can't. You're obviously one of the people who can't." Ouch. So, it took me two days to get up the nerve to go back there. I finally decided that having a piece of metal sticking a quarter inch out of my nostril just wasn't working for me aesthetically and headed over this evening. I was expecting a repeat of last time, but this experience couldn't have been more different. I was helped immediately upon entering. Both the blonde woman and the piercer (don't know which one -- he's the handsome redhead) chuckled a little when I pointed to my nose and said, "I can't get this in all the way", but that's to be expected. Piercer dude then said, "Come on back." I instantly fell in love with this guy. He was so cool about the whole thing, assuring me that he wasn't trying to hurt me and even saying he "was proud of me" for getting the thing in as far as I did. I'd come in fully expecting to be mocked, and the opposite occurred! I couldn't believe it. He also said he was surprised that the wound wasn't infected from all the poking and prodding I'd been forced to do and that I must be taking good care of it. I didn't think it was possible to develop a crush on a stranger who, within 15 seconds of meeting you, has his finger up your nose, but that's the magic of Industrial. I was almost hoping they'd charge me, because I wasn't ready to leave... You guys have really redeemed yourselves. Thanks for being awesome! read more

It must have been years ago that I first got my nose pierced here. i was a lil scared b/c I heard cartilage was a bitch to heal but I wanted it all the same. I remember going in and seeing this blonde chick with some of the coolest piercing that i had ever seen. Her name escapes me right now but i remember her being very nice. She helped me figure out what kind of ring I wanted and was extremely patient with me. And let me tell you when some one is nervous about getting a hole poked into their face patience is soothing! They guy who pierced me was also patient and funny to boot. But most importantly, the piercer cleaned all of the instruments in front of me. It ended up being completely painless of course, especially after all of the build up I created in my head. after following their directions, I had no problems with my piercing at all. I was extremely excited to get another tattoo, and had heard great things about Industrial. I made my appointment, paid my deposit, and was stoked to get my new ink. I showed up to my appointment a half hour early, thinking that I might be able to start early. I walked up to find that the city was cutting trees directly in front of the shop! This, of course, is no fault of Industrial's, but how they handled the situation was less than favorable. No one was in the shop, but I was told by the tree trimmers that the owner had just left to buy food or something, so I stuck around to see what the deal was. I waited an hour for the owner to come back, now a good half hour after my appointment was to start. When he finally came back, he was EXTREMELY rude to me! When I asked what I should do, or if i could get my deposit back, he rose his voice at me and was saying that he was going to lose thousands of dollars over the tree cutting. What did I get out of this? That the owner was willing to yell at a new customer who was going to spend a good amount of money with them and refuse to give back an $80 deposit because he was otherwise going to lose a lot of money. And he couldn't have taken the time to call me to tell me the appointment would be canceled so I didn't waste my time driving out to Berkeley. In short, I had a terrible experience here at Industrial. The only star I gave was for Jake, who was going to tattoo me and was generally kind through the whole ordeal. But I left frustrated and upset from an appointment that didn't happen, and got my ink somewhere else the same day, for cheaper. I am super happy with how it came out from this other place. If you expect to be treated with respect by a group of people doing permanent work on your body, do not go here! read more

I decided to get my cartilage pierced and made a trip to Industrial. I love Lysa!!! She was very professional and friendly and made sure that all my questions and concerns were addressed. She explained the entire process to me and made sure that all the needles and jewelry were sanitized. My piercing started swelling up a lot after I slept on it one night so I went back in and she changed the jewelry to a longer one for free! She also told me that she'll change it to a shorter one once my piercing heals. I was very pleasantly surprised by how supportive and caring she was. I felt like a patient getting treated by a doctor! Although I probably will not be getting more piercings, I'm definitely bringing any friends who decide to get pierced in the future. read more

Last time I went here, my friends and I waited around 15 minutes for a piercer although we made an appointment. That was fine until my piercing got infected and I came back to get it removed and upon making an appointment again, I had to wait 30+ minutes past my appointment time to be helped. Overall, had a pretty awful experience my piercing got infected after three months of initially getting it pierced and using their products to clean 2 times daily. Despite the piercing, the lack of attention to merely a piercing removal that could not take more than 15 minutes is absolutely ridiculous as an entire cycle of people went before me. Never going back here ever experience i've had has been awful. They either need to work on their time management, train employees better for organizational appointments, or take less people daily. The employees are nice and hang out on the job which is normal and I completely understand but when I made an appointment, followed their rules, and still was not helped for almost an hour is absolutely awful customer service. Unless you want to wait for over 40+ minutes to be helped, don't come here! read more

I have gotten three tattoos at Industrial (3 different artists, all great in their own ways), and have several friends who have had tattoos or piercings done here. Ali is the best. I came into Industrial a couple years ago as a walk-in, not really knowing what to expect and I was blown away. After two seconds of flipping through Ali Ulrich's portfolio, I was sold. I explained my concept to her and she knew exactly what I wanted. Later, I walked out with a smile on my face three times larger than the bandage on my shoulder because i was more than satisfied with the work that Ali had eternalized onto my skin. I've received tattoos from several other artists around the bay area and, while they are good pieces that I am proud to show off, Ali's pieces are by far my favorite in terms of artistic talent. Now, Ali is my first choice whenever I get work done and I sit here writing this review with more tattoos from her than I can count with fingers. Once, a blind man turned his face in the direction of one of the tattoos that Ali had given me and he regained his vision! Okay, that may be an exaggeration, but I am NOT exaggerating when I tell you that if you are anywhere near the east bay and are looking to get any new tattoo work done, you NEED to come check Ali out. I had to wait for a couple of hours but it was ABSOLUTELY WORTH IT. As soon as I saw him, an gentle smile and his respectful manner made the experience an unforgettable one. And trust me, he drew for hours until it was PERFECT. And he never did seem upset or did not treat me horribly when I cried like a baby. So, I wanted to give these guys 4 stars because the prices are up there... and then I realized when you're getting a tattoo or piercing, the price should definitely not be one of the top five considerations... The top 5 things you should care about before you walk in here are: 1. Safety 2. Cleanliness 3. Quality 4. Service 5. Safety again THEN you can consider cost. To that point, these guys are 5-stars all the way. If cost is one of your top 5 considerations, take a minute and re-think your priorities (This stuff can get gnarly - as evidenced by gruesome photos on other businesses' Yelp pages). From the moment I walked in and was warmly greeted to my choosing the earrings I wanted and then conversations with my piercer (word?), it was all excellent. Now, it's been a little over a week, I've been following their instructions and it's been so easy. The lady who pierced my ears worked with me for a while to find the perfect spot and angle, and when it came time for ze needle, it was remarkably painless. Let's just say I'm IMPRESSED. $102 including tax for 2 second piercings and some soap to clean them with is up there, buuut it's nothing compared to an infection or having them do it wrong in the first place. I've had a lot of questionable experiences with salty piercers in the past, but Andrea at Industrial has restored my faith in the process. She's very careful and very talented. She's also got a wonderful bedside manner which I think is equally important. Getting piercings has usually been a nerve wracking experience for me, but she made me feel totally at ease when she did my septum. All my friends agree; she is the best! I also want to say that Todd is such a pleasant guy and has phenomenal taste in jewelry, and Helen was so attentive and kind in helping me pick out jewelry. Walking into a tattoo/piercing shop can sometimes feel like you've just intruded on a private clique and can be pretty off putting for someone who might be a little more awkward or shy (like me) and Industrial has never failed to make me completely at ease when I go in. I went in as part of a 'Piercing Party'- which is when they do a discount for groups of more than 10 people coming in to get pierced. And it was by far one of the best piercing experiences I've ever had. I had gone here before to get stretched, as well as getting my nose and septum done (and just to drool over their extensive jewelry collection), and every time the staff have been nothing but friendly and professional. It was such a great experience to all be able to hang out and just talk and have fun while waiting for our turn to get pierced. Andrea (our piercer) was amazing and lovely. Her energy has always been super calming and she's nothing but professional and thorough with her work. Helen (the super sweet chick at the front desk) was great, and put up with the eleven crazy girls that were bouncing off the walls with excitement, all while making sure we had water and that our jewelry was picked out and ready for our session. And Todd (the owner) was awesome for offering this really fun and new opportunity and experience! read more

I've been helped by Marina and Lysa for different kinds of piercings on my ears. The first time I got a second earlobe piercing and a nostril piercing from Marina. The second time I got two helix piercings from Lysa. Both Marina and Lysa were friendly, helpful, and patient. Particularly, for my second visit I needed advice on the placement of the helix piercings and Lysa gave her recommendations without pushing her opinions on me. I also appreciated that both Marina and Lysa explained every step of the piercing procedure (and chatted with me during the piercing process which is a good distraction from the pain). The staff is friendly, the shop is clean and everything gets properly sterilized, and the jewelry selection is extensive. They also offer all the necessary after-care products. Prices are fair ($25 for earlobe and helix piercing w/o jewelry, $5 for jewelry change). Will go back and highly recommend! read more
