I've gotten two cartilage piercings here. Once three years ago and once last weekend. Both times the employees were attentive and very helpful. I came in and got a piercing last Monday. The entire experience was great. I walked in and the woman at the register with long hair was super nice and answered any questions that I had. The wait wasn't too bad either,only about 10 minutes or so when I was quoted 30 but I had no problem waiting. My piercer Joshua was great as well! He was friendly yet knowledgeable. Industrial has become my piercing place of choice when I'm in the Bay Area. So far I haven't gotten any actual piercing performed here, but they've been ever so helpful otherwise. The staff is laidback and helpful, the piercers are knowledge and clearly pros. I've gotten some jewelry changed a couple times here, and advice for a few "problem piercings" that always ended up working. They even knew what to do with my microdermals. Don't bother with Zebra down the street. I'm reserving my last star since I've never gotten pierced by Lysa (yet?). But I suspect if (when?) I ever do, Industrial will be most definitely deserving of a fifth star from me. read more

Industrial's selection of jewelry is so beautiful! I have bought two things for my nose piercing here -- A silver stud with bright turquoise, which I hadn't ever seen before going to Industrial. I loved wearing it until I lost it :((( Welp. Anyways, I later custom ordered a rose-gold hoop -- The piercer worked with me to fit it exactly to my nostril, so that the hoop lay tight against my skin; I didn't want a big obvious hoop and she did exactly what I was looking for. I've also had three tattoos done here! One was a small tattoo on my ankle, and the artist saw this pre-existing tattoo on my wrist and said,"can I please touch that up for you?!" It was originally done so poorly, and he transformed it from janky to beautiful. :) The second time I went in for a tattoo was for a big one on my ribcage, and five years later, I am still super happy with my nautilus :D The lines and shading are soo clean and precise. Came here a couple months ago to accompany my friend to get 2 additional lobe piercings. Last year I came here to get an industrial piercing by Todd and I really liked him. I remember he told me to come back in 2 weeks so he could see how I was doing, but I never went lol.. mainly because of the long drive to come here. But that's how you know that they really care about their customers! Anyway my friend asked me if I knew a legit place for piercings since I have an industrial and tragus- just the ears! We were originally supposed to go to Inkies b/c of all the 5 star ratings, but on this particular day they were closed because of the tat convention! So this was the second place that came to mind, since getting pierced at the mall is not such a good idea. So we came here. It was my first time watching someone else get pierced, since it's always just me haha. Lysa pierced her, and she was very knowledgeable and talked my friend through the whole thing. These were just simple lobe piercings but you can tell my friend was nervous haha. Lysa is very nice. This place is pretty pricey though, but the quality is excellent. Clean studio. I love this place. I first heard of it when I went with my friend to get his septum pierced. I instantly loved the interior resign of the shop. I've had some god awful, horrible piercing experiences at other shops, and after getting pierced myself at Industrial for the first time, I can't imagine getting pierced any place else! The staff is extremely professional and make you feel very comfortable. They are very careful and cautious. You can really tell they know what they're doing. After I got my belly pierced here, my piercer acknowledged she made the wrong judgement in the size of the ring and immediately switched it out. Lysa is the best! I'll be coming back soon! I looked at various piercing and tattoo shops around Berkeley and decided to come here based on reviews. I was not disappointed! I went on a Saturday and everyone knows that majority of people want a piercing on the weekend, so the wait was a little over an hour. -- I was able to go eat something, leaving my name and number for when I could be pierced and they called me right on time with their estimate of when they'd be ready. I previously had two tongue piercings and was hoping to get both back, but after looking at the scars and careful study of where to place the post, Lysa said that the past piercings were probably both botched (which sucks) and she would have never done the secondary piercing on me. I'm so glad she was upfront and honest with the piercing process and explained why what I wanted wasn't possible. I had a couple girlfriends with me to watch and she jokingly gave them some time with the needle through my tongue to get "the picture". All smiles! My friend had some work done by Dan and suggested I see him for one of my tattoos. I showed him a photo and explained to him that the symbol was drawn out in blood with someone's finger. He took my two dimensional photo and made my tattoo look like it was drawn on in blood with a finger, on my skin! I didn't even know you could do something like that with tattoo art! I loved it here! I decided to get a tattoo and heard about this place from friends of mine. I walked in and was immediately greeted. I told them I was still unsure of what I was looking for so they offered to help by giving me books to look at, as well as using their internet to browse through pictures. I settled for a simple design and Mike got to work. He did a great job and held great conversation, which helped me get my mind off of the pain. I was done in no time! I got my lip pierced at Industrial Tattoo today and I just want to echo all of the positive things people have yelped about them. Friendly service, clean, comfortable environment and my piercing turned out great! Lysa also pierced me and I really liked her. She was super friendly and put me totally at ease. Plus, they have a great jewelry selection. I have gauged ears and I haven't found too many shops that carry jewelry that I like so I buy most of my stuff online. my first time going to industrial was to get a second opinion on a nose piercing i got at the Galaxxy Piercing/ Tattoo/Clothing/Music shop(hint: dont get a piercing at a place that sells retail). I just walked in a a young man told me that the metal has actually been bent too many times causing the metal on the stud to have little cuts on it resulting in keloid on my nose due to all the irritation. He replaced that old nose ring to a new one. I didnt even have to ask and I think he may have done it free of charge or for a very fair price, i dont recall. Anywho, the second time i went in, about 2 years later, the shop was kind busy as i had to wait with my friends for about 40 minutes. But as soon as it was my turn, Andrea took her time to answer any and all my questions. She really takes time with each one of her clients and thats the reason for the wait. I got my tragus pierced here and the places I tried to get it done at before I came to Industrial said they couldn't do it unless i got a loop earring when I just wanted a sparkly stud. I came here and was told that if I got a loop earring, my ear was sure to reject it because my tragus is really small apparently... None the less, I got it done. I got it pierced and the piercing person told me that my ear was sure to reject it, so she took it out and pierced it again. Sure I went through excruciating pain for few minutes, but I'm grateful that they were that thoughtful to make sure that my body wouldn't reject the piercing. It's been over a ear and I haven't gotten an infection or anything (my ears are really sensitive and I tend to get infections whenever I get them pierced). I didn't tip the person cause I was quite pissed that I had to get it done twice in one sitting, but I regret doing that because it turned out so nice! My friend got her belly button re-pierced here and she loved it how they did it exactly as she asked and that it was pierced clean and straight. read more

The review is for Marina as well as the lady that assisted us in the front, excuse me for not remembering your name (GI Jane haircut with a just as dope personality, glasses). This place is a hot spot and for having two people assisting the customers could be very overwhelming, but they never made you feel rushed and they took their time with us and answered all our questions. I've been around multiple shops and what makes this place stand out is their customer service. A lot of places make you feel out of place, not wanting to give you the time of day, not giving a shit about your thoughts or concerns, but this place doesn't make you feel like that. Any concerns you have, they're willing to help you and guide you without the pressure of having to buy something so thank you for that. As for our piercer, Marina, she was extremely patient and kind. I understand that many of us can be very indecisive especially during moments like this and there can be a lot of buts, what ifs, may I change this, what do you think about this type of stuff going on. This can be extremely difficult at times, but she was very understanding and made this experience an amazing one. I deal with patients all the time and I understand the back side of why the wait time can be long. The timeframe that they give you isn't always concrete. A piercing may only take 10-20 minutes which is why they give you that timeframe, but that's only if things go well. It's not that they're in the back lollygagging, but it's because they're trying to be considerate of others by giving whoever their working on their attention and their time and ensuring that they are fully happy with their service. Also, half the time the people who are the ones complaining are the ones who seem to be the most complicated to deal with. So be mindful and be considerate. They want to do as good as a job as you want them to do. Anywho, I am very appreciative of the time they both spent with me and my friend cause I know for damn we were indecisive as well. I got two upper earlobe piercings at Industrial and i can't recommend them enough. I had wanted additional ear piercings for a long time, but was wary because my primary ones still give me trouble some 15 years later. I thought part of this was due to my body simply not responding to piercings well, but now I know it was caused by a crappy job done with a piercing gun, cheap jewelry, and adolescent habits about wound care. I am also afraid of needles. But every single Industrial staff member I spoke to during the piercings (got them 3 weeks apart) were supportive and empathetic; I never felt silly or like I was being judged for being apprehensive. They also explained the process, told me about how updated methods will make the healing a breeze, and busted some piercing myths. The process was so easy, even somehow enjoyable, thanks to their expertise. And when I first walked in I thought I might have ended up blacked out! Most importantly, my ears are healing very well. Also, their jewelry selection is top notch. But be careful, you will fall in love the beautiful, made-in-the-US pieces. And they are pricey. However, they're also top quality. read more

I chose what I wanted and was told that is would take 10-15 minutes until it i was next. While I waited, I noticed more customers came in and made purchases/appointments. 1 hour and few minutes later, I finally got called in to do a less then 5 min jewelry swap that I paid for. During the wait time, I had asked multiple times if I was going to be next, I also had to add time to my parking meter, and also had to even move my car. This was super disappointing. I just came back from getting my first tattoo in this place. Based on previous reviews, I asked for Dan and you guys were right, he is the best! Not only is he as sweet as pie, but he took the time to help me with the design, I never felt like he was bothered and getting the tattoo was so easy, I couldn't believe it. My tattoo is on my wrist, so I was a bit nervous about the pain and bleeding. No need! He is very light handed, 5 minutes into it I coudln't feel a thing. A tattoo I got at another place bled a whole bunch, and got all crusty. This one is looking like it's been on me forever. And it looks amazing! Apart from Dan, the rest of the crew rocks. I've gone to Industrial for two tragus piercings and a helix piercing and I've been happy with all 3. I was especially nervous about getting the first tragus done and Lysa was great -- she explained the procedure, answered all my questions, and really tried to put me at ease. Industrial is nicely laid out and they have several glass cases with lots of jewelry, plus if you want something specific, they are more than happy to order you custom jewelry. I was shopping around for a spot to do a same day portrait tat of my daughter. Positives: -the waiting area (because I didn't see the back) is very clean -they are able to do same days but expect you to walk around for a few hours waiting for them to be available (ok no problem, you can grab a bite to eat) Negatives: -PARKING SUCKS!!!!!! -The chick at the counter is a real bubble head. Seems like she doesn't know a thing. I'd be surprised if she knows her name. -No artwork displayed. I mean, I've never been to a tat shop that doesn't have their art covering the walls. I did see 3 or 4 books of art but nothing like walking into a place and seeing all your choices. -Everyone seemed to only be interested in eating. They were all eating at a small table behind the counter. We were trying to talk to the front desk chick and when we blinked she left to go eat and WE WERE IN THE MIDDLE OF A SENTENCE!!!! -It was crowded and many people did not look happy. I decided to go somewhere else for my tat because I just don't have time to play games at a shop. I want it comfortable and professional or you don't see my dollars! The artist that planned to do my tattoo was VERY nice and may have done a great job. But after waiting in the shop for 20mins I finally came across his book (by the way, when the pages start falling out...you need a new book) and saw 3 portraits. 2 just didn't sit well with me because they looked uneven (one eye higher than the other, one eye smaller than the other, one cheek bumpy and chunk). Getting your septum pierced the wrong way hurts like a mofo. When that happened to me, I had the folks at Industrial right this terrible wrong - yay. Please don't waste your time and money like I did. Please get pierced by an artist who's experienced and knowledgeable. Lysa at Industrial is the poo and will definitely hook you up right. I've also been pierced by Andrea and Todd, who are also very skilled and will talk you through everything. They're good at putting you at ease. They're VERY serious about piercing/caring for your piercings the right way. They will probably bark at you if you want to jump stretch sizes or dismiss their instructions to soak your holes in sea salt solution... You have to kinda appreciate that though right? I've seen/had some pretty awful, funky, messed up piercings. And I've been to pretty dank, dirty shops where the artist will do whatever you tell them to because they just wanna make a buck and don't give a crap. Finally, their services are decently priced. If you like organic jewelry, their selection is stellar. So, have a most excellent hole-punching good time, folks! read more

Andrea and the rest of the staff are awesome! I came in to inquire about getting an industrial ear piercing (the name seemed to fit well) and spoke to a really nice guy with gauges whose name escapes me... He told me Andrea was available to do the piercing, but as she was with another client I said I'd come back a little later. He had me fill out some quick paperwork and said he would get the jewelery sterilized and ready for me when I got back. There was a little wait when I returned, but they had an ample selection of magazines to keep me from thinking too much about getting a metal bar shoved through my ear. After a little while Andrea came out to check out my ear and tell me about the process - she was so sweet! Once we were set we went back to her "office" and she had me lay down for the piercing. She kept me informed the whole way through so I knew exactly what was going on, which made it a much less painful experience. After she was finished I sat up for the explanation about cleaning, etc, but within a couple of minutes I started seeing stars and felt like I might faint. Andrea had me lie down again and gave me water and a strawberry lollipop to bring me back. I immediately felt better, but I took a few minutes to chill while she cleaned up. Couldn't have picked a better place to almost pass out in! The piercing looks awesome and the experience was great, albeit a little painful :) I will definitely be back for my next exciting body art adventure. read more
