As part of the process, I've been to this location of CarMax twice to explore vehicles I found on their website. My needs, because of my disability, are very specific. Unless I try to go to a van (which I considered), I'm mostly looking for a 2-door automatic with enough space that I can slide my wheelchair into the backseat. Simple? Not so much. Coupes aren't trendy these days, and the coupes that are around are either older, high mileage, or way too small for the wheelchair need. If you know this CarMax, you know it's a rather large lot right off the corner of 96th and Gray Road. As you likely know, East 96th Street has several car dealers and it's a great place to start if looking for a car from a Hyundai to a Bentley. CarMax does one of these things I despise, first of all. You can't actually access the lot without sales support. I got the feeling that most people contact them prior to arrival, but I tend to be a "show up" person - that's especially true right now since I'm dependent on a ride and never know when that will happen. When it does, I go. Both times I've been here, I've had specific cars in mind. However, I've also explained my needs. While I accept that wheelchair using drivers are somewhat in the minority, I am always a little baffled when a sales associate can't comprehend the idea of a 2-door automatic. They do exist. When I come on your lot with specific vehicles in mind, simply let me see the vehicles. I got the vibe they felt I was wasting their time. Was this a bad experience? Not really. Was it a good experience? Not really. It was just sort of "meh." Despite a couple visits, I've sort of scratched CarMax off my list. Maybe if I were buying exclusively online, it would be idea. But, as a driver with a wheelchair I just have to know the wheelchair will work. So, I have to show up in person. Once I did that, this place really lost me. I know there are people who swear by CarMax. More power to them, but as someone who needs a little extra in the buying experience this is definitely not a place that seemed to want my business.

Coolant leaks, hood latch failure, warning lights, half the time it wouldn't start, a bunch of big cosmetic issues, bad battery, bad brakes. I reached out to the dealership with concerns about the issues with the vehicle and I was told if I didn't take the car back to them on their time and schedule (dealer is 2 hours away and offers no rental car assistance and this was my only transportation) that they would "Come get the vehicle themselves and keep my full $7000 down payment." I had to reach out and file a complaint with the attorney general and the secretary of state, who also found out that they forged signatures on legal documents. While I had open cases and also trying to estimate and figure repair cost, these people called a towing company with a fraudulent repossession certificate to try to steal the car and keep my money. Luckily the secretary of state forced them to refund my down payment and arrange for the dealer to pick up the vehicle with my money in hand. This same vehicle is now listed back on their website just a few days later (there is no way they fixed the issues I had with it in such a short time), AND THEY RAISED THE PRICE FROM $15,000 TO OVER $17,000. Grant, the General Manger, stepped in and told me three solutions: 1. Keys are too close together 2. Keys were in valet mode 3. get them reprogrammed at Tom Wood Volvo. I tried all of his solutions. Tom Wood Volvo informed me the second key fob wasn't even to the car I purchased. I took the key fob back to TruWorth on Friday, Nov. 29th. Grant, the General Manager, took my key fob and said he would get back to me on Monday or Tuesday. Grant, the General Manager, never got back to me. I reached out via 13 texts, 4 phone calls, and 2 in person visits with a 31 business day period. I do feel bad for the other employees who have to cover for Grant, the General Manager. He was either busy, "would get back to me", or out of the office. All I wanted was the second key because with a Volvo you have to have both keys to use some of the remote and app features, like remote start. After I contacted the Better Business Bureau magically Grant touched base. He let me know he had 7 other cars in the same situation as mine. I respectfully told him, I only care about my car. There is a problem with an attention to detail if 7 others are facing the same issue. The following day I went to Tom Wood Volvo and they had a key in stock. They had keys in stock the entire time, but TruWorth refused to acknowledge this, because they needed to again buy key fobs in bulk and not just one key fob. So, if you want lack of attention to detail, no communication, and zero customer service see Grant, the General Manager, at TruWorth. Also, after negative reviews are left they have an employee, like Ash, or family members Heather Hourigan (Ed Hourigan owns the Carmel TruWorth) leave a positive review to skew their rating on Google.

The car is only 7 years old... Indy motors did fix the initial problem (which is now broken and they said it was done incorrectly and used "junky parts" ) ALSO when the car was delivered back to us from being at Indy motors it immediately needed a new transmission (like the same day we got it back) They have enough bad reviews on Facebook just like this, I'm not the only one. I've asked and asked for a full refund and have been ghosted. When we initially asked them to buy the car back they only would give us 15 for it after we bought it for 22. Make it make sense. They are dishonest, and have put my family in danger more than once. I honestly do not know how they sleep at night scamming young families and putting children in danger. I am almost confident that they KNEW this car was in a flood/ messed with the VIN/ didn't inspect it at all. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY.

Rod, the owner and manager at Darring's Detail, did an excellent job correcting the paint on our…read moreVik Black 2023 Genesis GV70 Electrified. I went in looking for whatever level of polish I could get within a roughly $500 budget, and Rod ended up delivering essentially a three-stage correction within that budget. The quality of the work, service, and value were all excellent, and we were genuinely thrilled with how the car turned out. We had just purchased the vehicle CPO with about 30,000 miles on it. We bought it Wednesday afternoon in Virginia and drove it home by Thursday night. By Friday morning, some dried mud was unfortunately wiped off the paint, leaving several additional scratches on top of some clear-coat scratches and deeper marks that were already there. Vik Black is a beautiful metallic black, but it shows almost everything. We dropped the car off with Rod Monday morning. Our goal was not showroom perfect. We just wanted the paint to look significantly better without spending well over $1,000. Rod initially discussed around a two-step polish for roughly $450, but what we ultimately received was essentially a three-stage correction for $500. Comparable quotes I had seen for that level of work were well north of $1,000. The car was washed, decontaminated and clay barred, polished, then worked again with a heavier compound and wool pad in areas with deeper defects, followed by a final polish and wax. The result was fantastic. The car is not absolutely perfect under every light, but it is also a 30,000-mile CPO vehicle with some deeper scratches. For what we asked for and what we paid, the improvement was excellent. More importantly, this was a car we had literally just brought home, and after the correction it finally felt like the new-to-us vehicle we had been excited about buying in the first place. The service was just as good. I have increasingly felt that with most businesses you can pick two of three: great quality, great service, or a great price. Rod somehow managed all three. Rod originally expected the job to take one day. Around midday Monday, he called and left me a voicemail asking whether he could keep the car until the following morning because it could benefit from some additional work. I was in a meeting and could not respond right away. When he had not heard back from me within about an hour, he decided to honor the turnaround he had originally promised and worked double time to finish the additional work. The car was ready that same Monday evening. When we picked it up, Rod and his team were clearly proud of the work and excited to show us the result. That meant a lot. You can tell when someone genuinely cares about the work they are putting their name on, and that was absolutely the feeling we got. They were transparent, stayed within budget, and did more than I expected without trying to upsell me into something I did not want. I am actually pretty critical when it comes to paying a lot for detailing services, so I do not give this kind of recommendation lightly. In this case, I felt like every dollar was well spent. Rod and his team gave us exactly what we were hoping for, and then some. I would absolutely trust Darring's Detail with our vehicles again. Thank you to Rod and the entire team for making our new-to-us GV70 look like something we could be excited about all over again.
