We usually go around lunch hours, which is perfect because it's never too busy -- no waiting for machines, no crowding, just an easy, steady flow. I usually hop on the StairMaster for 5-10 minutes to warm up (and pretend I'm climbing to better glutes), then move into strength work. We mostly stick to the free weights and machines for now -- still a little intimidated by the barbells and squat racks, but we'll be weight-loading soon! I've also been eyeing their yoga classes -- just waiting for one that fits my schedule so I can finally stretch and zen out after all the lifting. It's the kind of gym that makes it easy to stay consistent -- judgment-free, motivating, and just the right mix of casual and serious fitness energy.

Ignore the negative reviews; in my experience, many come from people who never truly integrated into the community that makes this place so unique. In my confirmation email, the only instruction was to bring my ID, which I reasonably assumed was for identity verification or account setup. However, when I arrived, the front desk associate (Viviana) asked about the address on my ID and, after I explained that I had just moved, told me I would need to go to a different location based on the address listed. I want to be clear--I completely understand if there is a policy requiring proof of local residency for a free trial. That's not the issue. The issue is that this requirement was not communicated beforehand, and more importantly, the way it was handled in person was extremely unprofessional. Viviana had a noticeably dismissive and unfriendly attitude from the start. When I tried to clarify my situation, she spoke over me and did not make any effort to provide clear or respectful communication. After going back and forth, she eventually offered to check with a manager. I agreed and asked her to do so, and when she returned, she said I could work out for the day--but the delivery still felt cold and unwelcoming. I also requested a tour, which she provided very briefly and with minimal effort. She pointed vaguely at different areas without explanation, and I ultimately had to walk the facility on my own to understand what was available. It's unfortunate because the gym itself is great and the other staff members I encountered were kind and welcoming. I still plan on joining because of the location and amenities, but this experience nearly cost you a new member. As a business owner with over 10 years in customer service, I know how much front desk interactions matter--they set the tone for the entire brand. I hope this feedback is taken seriously, because the service I received from Viviana does not reflect the quality of the facility.

When they had to discipline him, they were fair about it and respectful. I appreciated that very much especially since my son loves to get in trouble. ___ The gym aspect of the Highland YMCA is great too. Their Zumba classes are jam packed but so fun. The trainer kept the class moving and exciting. The schedule is full of group classes that I look forward to trying. They are going on all day and all night which is great for working people. No new machines or anything to justify the price increases. As it's went up 3 times already. We even kept paying during covid even though it was closed. Pretty much donated our $$$ to them for over 3 months. Didn't even get a Y T shirt or anything lol. We love the YMCA's as we have been members since we were kids in San Diego ca and Los Angeles Ca. Our kids are Y babies from Downey Ca. We really thought we'd be members for life but I'm just not sure if we're going to keep our membership.
