My experience is limited to the classes through Groupon:…read more Pros: -Instructors are friendly and enthusiastic. -They give you free boxing gloves with a Groupon deal. Cons: -After a first class, they grab you and go over one year membership (very pushy!!). -It is difficult to reserve a spot. They only allow you to reserve one class at a time if you are not a regular member. -You can only reserve a spot in person or by calling. However, they are only available to answer your call a couple hours before the evening classes. -When you finally get a chance to talk to them, the classes are full. The instructor told me that they can only allow 4 beginners per class. Thus, although the classes weren't full, I couldn't take the class. In conclusion, it just took too much effort to take a class and enjoy the workout.

The people that work here and go here are some of the most special and unique people I have ever meet. To be honest I should have written a review about this place a long time ago when I lived in Florida, but I didn't, I dropped the ball, but while back visiting after a year away I stopped in and the feeling of love and welcome was so overwhelming I would be amiss to not step up and say how much I love this place. This gym offers a unique variety of things that you can't find at your regular box gyms. You can take Kickboxing, Sanshou, Kung Fu, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu or Bootcamp. They offer classes for both kids and adults 7 days a week. From the time you walk in to the time you leave, they really do take the extra time to focus on you. Your needs, your goals, your weaknesses, your strengths. Always encouraging you and always there to call you out if you need it, and trust me sometimes I did. Walking into John Wai, you feel warm and welcome. It reminds me of Cheers "Where every body knows your name, and they are always glad you came". Not only do they offer a gym where you can really reach those goals that you want, they offer more, they offer an amazing community, a family. Walking into a new gym is often scary and you always run into these cliques, but this place is the only place I have never ever experienced that. From the owner down to the newest member everyone is happy, helpful, and friendly. Tucked away in the back of a tiny plaza in the middle of Plantation, this place really is a diamond in the rough. I know when I leave again at the end of my holiday this will be one place that I will always miss, not matter where I go and I will always look forward to visiting when I come back. If you are really looking for a place to workout and meet amazing people, this is the place to go!

I originally got interested in boxing by trying out some workouts at 9-Round but I wanted to learn some better technique. Boy i didn't know how much I didn't know until I started at The Gym Boxing. Marty is an amazing guy - super friendly but incredibly knowledgeable. He has trained many professional athletes so he knows his stuff. He really focuses on technique and I feel I have learned a ton in the past year. I even had a one on one training session with him and it was awesome. The cardio classes here are fun and intense. They are definitely an awesome workout as I feel pretty spent after each session. There are people of all levels in the class and absolutely no judgement on beginners. There are many regulars that have been coming for years and everyone is very friendly. Overall if you are thinking about boxing or just getting in shape, I highly recommend The GYM Boxing as it has been awesome.

The instructors are always helpful, accommodating, encouraging & challenging. They offer over 90 classes a week at an affordable unlimited monthly rate and they're not pretentious at all. People go there to work out and Tony, Phil & Niecey will know you by name making you feel that you belong because you do! If you want to get in & get out that's fine, too. There's a variety of classes including: HIIT (Zone), spin, Pilates Reformer, yoga, Zumba, TRX and if you want to look at their entire lineup check them out on the MindBody app. The class variety and quality to cost just can't be beat. These are quality classes where there's something for everyone, beginner or novice. I find the classes are always challenging and I've been working out for a while. Yet don't be intimidated if you're new either b/c they do a great job at modifying until you're ready to add that extra weight, rep, whatever it is that you need. As I mentioned before this studio is not pretentious. No one there has to look like silicone Barbie or Ken to give you a good workout or work out beside you. It's a friendly laid back atmosphere, but you'll still get a great workout. The instructors are all great! They teach to their own style, but are always challenging. Stacey is the best Pilates Reformer instructor hands down. I believe she has over 20 yrs of experience. Everyone's always shaking & sweating (sometimes limping, in a good way) from her class. Jimmy is hardcore, like a drill sergeant, but always changes it up and will offer modified versions if you need. Colleen and Darnell are also great and always change things up, so you're never bored. They're both so encouraging, motivating and have the best music. Lastly, regarding the billing when I had any issue (which was maybe once) I'd call or ask in-person. I think sometimes technology & billing can require a bit of a learning curve, so be patient and bring it up if it wasn't resolved to your liking the first time. I find it's likely oversight than intentional because that was the case with me. I hope more great things are to come and that they expand their members, space and classes!

This is the only workout I've ever stuck out through…read more I've seriously tried it all. Zumba, yoga, Pilates, barre, even a general membership at LA Fitness. Nothing ever did it for me. I would go to the gym, complete my workout, and then dread the next time I'd have to do it again. I tried ClassPass at some point and that at least helped in the variety, but I never really felt home at the gym. I'm a total bookworm, never been a gym rat, but CKO Kickboxing may be showing me that you can be both and there's no shame in that. Originally I went to the CKO back south in Brickell. I was introduced to that gym thanks to Diandra L., the former Yelp community manager for Miami. She had somehow gotten CKO Brickell to give a group of us Yelpers a free class and I remember getting out of there sweating like a pig and somehow intrigued by the workout. I eventually reached out to CKO Brickell and did some classes, even getting a membership. Then I got injured, my office moved, and the location just was no longer convenient for me. To top it off, the pandemic made me lazy and it felt as if I would never work out again. Cue the pandemic making me rethink my life and moving up to Broward County, where I remembered there were more branches of CKO, and CKO Pembroke Pines just happens to be the closest one to me. It was late August. Or maybe early September? It was a Sunday. On a whim, I showed up at CKO Pembroke Pines. I remembered how much I loved CKO Brickell and I just had had it with being a couch potato. I showed up around 11 AM and got to meet Aiyana and Kani. I got some info from them and called later on in the week to set up the details for a free week of kickboxing classes. The day I finally went to my first class, it was at 6 AM. I really don't know what possessed me. I typically worked out evenings, but I opted for a change. Olga, who I later learned was the owner and she really is the sweetest thing, personally set me up with gloves and wraps. Kendrick was teaching that morning, a Wednesday. I remember getting out of there being shell shocked at how bent out of shape I literally was. I somehow made it my mission to get active. Specifically to be energized. There were days I wanted to give up, but I kept on pushing. Heck, there are days I still do feel that way. People seem to think I'm more athletic than I actually am. I'm not. I'm just determined to live a healthy lifestyle. Believe me when I tell you that I was that kid who detested running the mile, and more so, to this day I can only do a girly push-up. Despite these shortcomings, I've never once felt judged for them at this gym. Each and every person I've met has been downright lovely. It's a family, tried and true. When I've been out for some time, I get asked out why, and funnier still, I've gotten to the point of telling them beforehand. It's so nice to be part of a community that remembers your birthday, spontaneously congratulates you on your 100th class, and actually is happy for you when you vacation. Honestly I'm thrilled to be part of CKO Pembroke Pines. It's no longer a pain to work out. I look forward to it now even. I recommend you heavily trying them out. What started out as a hope has become a dream. I am a little Energizer Bunny now. That and while I may never be an Olympian, I feel faster and stronger. That in itself has made all the difference.

Don't worry, they have later BC classes as well. Everyday you do something different. The instructor, Jim Sayih is incredibly creative with the work outs. I personally cannot do the same thing everyday, I have the attention span of a five year old. In four weeks, I lost three pounds of fat, gained three pounds of muscle, and somehow became a morning person (miracle!). I also shaved three minutes from my mile run. Two months later, my mile is in the single digits! After BC was over, I wanted to get into Crossfit. I'm now in my third week and in love. The CF coaches have a lot of patience and make sure that you're doing the workouts properly, it's all about form and technique. They go over it with you until you get it. They spend a lot of time with me because I don't know what the heck I'm doing. Everyone is so positive here and I actually have fun! For the first time in my life, I'm comfortable at the gym and get great results. This facility has free Crossfit Trial Classes every Saturday at 11 am. I urge everyone to check it out. Keep a look out for Children's Kickboxing.

During my first class, l was told that I (as well as the rest of the class) could use my pass for 30 days opposed to only 6 classes! Zumba is offered 3 times a week, so that was a very generous offer. I also did the free trial crossfit class that they offer every saturday at 11 and that was some hard core sh*t. My ass and legs were burning for two days post workout I kid you not.. and I work out 5+ times a week. That's how you know its good. Different from your typical cookie cutter gym, there are no treadmills, ellipticals, etc. workouts are centered around their classes. Crossfit, bootcamp, zumba, etc. Which are all better workouts and much more exciting that running in place while staring at a wall for 30 minutes. The staff and instructors are extremely knowledgable, not to mention friendly. Sometimes when getting advice or whatnot from a "trainer" I often find myself thinking that they are full of crap and have no idea what they are talking about. But I have never thought that here, 911 crossfit instructors know what they are talking about. The gym even offers instructional seminars on nutrition and such. Very community driven, they just did an anniversary party and a Holiday Food Drive. Try getting that at your local LA fitness.. 911 Crossfit comes highly recommended.
