In a class like this people's pots fall, or they mess up a throw often as they learn but Amy has such an optimistic attitude and helps people come up with what purpose their new creation can serve. The studio is well equipped and while taking a class you can come in outside of class time to throw and practice. This is a great opportunity to practice and get more wheel time outside of the two hours of class a week. They also offer painting and have lots of fun things to paint with many beautiful glazes!

I visited the Board & Brush Westminster location with three girlfriends and it was so much fun - and making a wood sign was easy! The steps were simple - and the hosts helped us each step of the way. First, you choose a design (over 500 designs) online when you RSVP for your event date. When you get to the studio, your project is ready for you! We sanded, we pounded (distressing the wood), we stained, we sanded again, we painted, we sanded again, and we coated our final products. Then, we attached the hanging hardware. This is fun for people of all ages! Men, women, children - it's easy to do and you get to create a wonderful masterpiece for your home, office, porch, man cave, she-shed - wherever! I also don't mind supporting such a great venue and organization. We've seen a few performances at a couple of their theatres. My favorite is likely the most intimate space, The Black Box Theatre. The other larger space is well laid out, just bigger. I love the creativity and variety of their offerings. We've seen so many great shows. Def will return. And, the last time we were there, we learned about their spring plant sale that took place in their parking lot. Who knew? We went and really appreciated the local community collaboration. Unfortunately, a small group of disgruntled former members have teamed up with some City of Westminster employees to circulate lies, rumors and hyperbolic half-truths about this art gallery. Those lies even got published in an official city memorandum (I wouldn't want to be that guy when he has to defend those lies in court). Now the city is trying to evict this art gallery from the building they have been using for over ten years. Very sad.

I hadn't…read moreheard of the Jackalope Arts festival, which apparently appears every year just up the street from me in Olde Arvada. We went out on this sunny and warm October day, glad to enjoy some time outdoors in the sun. We were greeted, as well, with an enjoyable stroll through local venue booths sporting everything from beeswax products to locally mixed spices to jewelry made from local stones (think petrified wood and Marble's marble, among many others). I was drawn to the designs at a T-shirt shop, and when I couldn't find my size in the design I wanted, they assured me that I could email them and they would make it for me and send it along to my home. The jewelry maker at Waystone (mywaystone.com) promised that if I could bring her a piece of petrified wood that I had discovered in my backyard, she would make it into something special to display in my home. While she accepts items through mail, since she is just down I-70 just east of Denver, I mean to bring it right to her. I was excited to visit this arts fair, and came away with some nice items, along with the cards of some artisans to whom I will reach out for some custom items. What a great way to spend a glorious fall day outside!

A handful were too busy on their cell phones to notice people trying to ask questions and buy pieces. That's too bad when they took the time and effort to be here but maybe don't have the skill set to "sale". About 5-6 food trucks also set up near tables and a stage with live music. It would have been better if the stage faced a grassy area so people would feel compelled to bring chairs, blankets and hang out but that was not the case. Great day and I look forward to this next year.

Since there was a line, we skipped that. We were already dressed and made up as zombies which makes it smoother and quicker to walk around. We found parking on a side street. Many people really got into the zombie spirit with elaborate costumes. There was a costume contest for individuals and for groups (the group winner was 2 ladies dressed up as deer heads hanging over the fireplace). Music from a DJ was playing and some people danced while others observed and walked (crawled) around. Many people had children with them. There were restaurants open to get a bite to eat or drink. It wasn't super organized as I expected but it was a fun experience and I would recommend at least going once!

Up arrival, the herd crosses over to the other side of 16th St. and heads back to Skyline Park. It's a scream and a must do. And if you need help with your makeup, there are plenty of folks there to assist. Will you have a good time? Of corpse you will!!!!

Went Wednesday night with a friend to "paint your pet". You…read moreemail them a photo of your pet, they sketch it on canvas, and you paint it! It's one of the best classes I've seen out there since the painting is so personalized. It's also a bit more expensive than other classes because of the extra work that goes into it ($50). I think this class is better suited for people who have painted a couple times, or more. Next time I'll try a class where we're all painting the same thing, so it's harder for me to mess up. When all the pets look so different, it's hard for them to help you mix paint colors and walk you through every step. Some of the paintings were AMAZING and you could definitely tell these people had inherent artistic skills. People were looking at mine and smiling politely... haha. My painting is no masterpiece, but it sorta-kinda looks like Izzy. My fiance laughed at it when he saw it, but it was the first painting I've ever done! The instructor was helpful, and she went around to everyone giving them pointers and tips. The class included a drink, and they had little appetizers (mini meatballs, cheese, crackers, grapes, peanut M&M's!!!!!, hummus). It's a really cute space, and a fun thing to do with friends. Definitely recommend! P.S. There is a garage with free parking right behind the studio.

They have a "paint your date/mate" night - where you can do a portrait of the person you come with. Sounds like a blast - I fully hope to get back there. Beer/wine is available for purchase too, at less than restaurant prices. My only complaint, is that it's hard to find. If you enter from the main street, there's minimal street presence. There's a small sign out front, so don't look for a large window near their address. You need to follow down a hallway before you arrive at the studio. I think it's possible to get there faster from the back side of the studio? Anyway - give yourself time when trying to find the studio. I was surprised to see that other reviews posted were less positive. Reaction to other reviews: --"better suited for someone with painting experience": I've never painted before, and was entirely not intimidated by the environment. I felt no qualms trying funky patterns! --"cancelled birthday party": this definitely sounds like a nightmare. My experience was very unstructured (dropping in to an open studio), so this was not a problem. The staff was very friendly and provided help whenever needed.
