I'm on a quest to find the best coffee shop to study/do work in in Pittsburgh and this place was next on my list. For the purpose of this task, I give it a three out of five. The ambience is calm and somewhat cozy, there are couches to sit on and tables to focus with. I went in the morning/early afternoon, the lighting from outside was not great, typical Pittsburgh fashion. The light fixtures inside were way too dim. I found myself tilting my notebook to try to catch some natural light. Outlets also aren't easily accessible which is huge for being able to do work of course. The coffee was great, I tried the hibiscus cold foam latte, or something like that. I paired it with a bacon egg biscuit sandwich which was very filling. Definitely satisfied with the food products. Customer service was also fine, the women behind the counter were cheerful and pleasant. read more

I was early for an appointment in Lawrenceville on a Thursday morning, so I randomly popped into Inkwell for some caffeine and a place to kill a little time. It is not a big place, but it's very clean and cozy. I ordered a hot chia latte and found myself a super comfortable leather chair near the windows and enjoyed watching the day go by. I didn't try any of the yummy treats they have, but will definitely do so next month. This place has friendly staff and a great vibe. I'll be back, and you should try it. read more

While visiting Pittsburgh, we walked from our accommodation to Inkwell coffee shop two of the mornings we were in town. On the first morning, I ordered a spiced maple latte with oat milk, while my husband ordered the blueberry pancake latte. My dad ordered a classic chai tea latte. I loved all of the plants and large windows that allowed plenty of natural light. We enjoyed our beverages before walking back to our accommodation. The following morning, I came by myself to get my morning latte and opted for an iced pumpkin spice oat milk latte. Both times, the lattes were delicious without being overly sweet. I appreciated that they had milk alternatives for those of us who have trouble digesting lactose. I did not end up trying any of the pastries or bakery items, but they did look delicious. A cool coffee shop worth checking out if you find yourself in the Pittsburgh area. read more

Inkwell is awesome, and they always have fun seasonal drinks. For example, I could not pass up the Pink Princess Lemonade this time. It was a rose flavored lemonade with sparkling water and glitter of course. It was really refreshing. This place gets super cramped on the weekends. People have to squeeze by you while you're waiting in line, and you might not get a table. It's really not that bad because the staff is nice, and they're fast, so you dont have to wait too long. I love Inkwell, but not for their coffee--I love their London Fog! (I haven't tried their coffee, so I can't speak to that). To me, a perfect London Fog is sweet, creamy, and has lots of foam. This one fits the bill! There is usually a line, but it moves quickly. They always have seasonal decorations, and the last time I was there they had a candle collab with Mix Candle Company that smelled delicious. read more

I didn't love Inkwell when I first came here three years ago but I'm so glad my mind has been changed! Inkwell is excellent every time. They make one of the best lattes in Lawrenceville and always have such creative combinations of flavors. I loved the pumpkin cookie butter I got a few weeks back and the pumpkin design was just the perfect touch! There's lots of great seating options, and I frequently work from this space too and can rely on the WiFi to be strong. Saw Inkwell as I was on my way to the French bakery down the block and decided to get some coffee on my way. I'm a coffee girl, but I've been wanting to try matcha. The ladies behind the counter told me to try it and if it didn't work out, they'd just make me something else. Inkwell has really grown into its space in Lawrenceville on Butler and is filling, I think, an awesome niche, and you can tell because it is always packed! Visiting from out of town and want to get some Lawrenceville/Pittsburgh flavor? -- this is the definition of a local spot! Service is definitely the shiniest part of this review. Just a really, really awesome team of baristas who are always chatty, friendly, and community-focused in what they do. Some special appreciation for the art program that they are spinning up -- higher rotation frequency on artists than pretty much any of my other fave coffee spots and a strong, expressed desire to focus not just on local artists, but specifically to highlight artists within Inkwell's customer community. I think this so cool, so different, and so thoughtful about Inkwell's place within the community it serves. From the plentiful dog treats to the menu engagement with other nearby businesses (de Fer, Lux chocolates, Candlelab, etc), you can tell the staff feel they have a voice at this place and they reflect that back to their customers! Space is a tough one. It's a super tiny spot, seating is cramped, limited power outlet access. But I appreciate the attempt to provide small tables, sofa/comfy chair options, and a larger communal table at the back. It's just a tiny spot, but they try to make it hit the coffeeshop seating high notes! Coffee is consistently good -- they use de Fer coffee, which is both great quality and local! Love some of the unusual drink combos they come up with and post on their sidewalk sandwich board, love the split focus on tea and coffee drinks. You can tell they have some great combos when they are always sold out! Pastry case is not the best here...definitely a pass. They do offer some epic bacon/egg/cheddar breakfast biscuit prepped at Walters on the other side of the street. HUGE and filling, but definitely consider adding your own flavor (salt, hot sauce, whatever). read more

The cafe had one staff member taking all orders and preparing coffee but despite a line of 8 people he was very efficient. We did not wait terribly long. I came here with my sister and my mother because we wanted to get some coffee before we got some snacks for breakfast. I've been wanting to try Inkwell for a while now because new coffee shops are always good places to do work if the setting is good. And being a work from home person at least twice a week it's nice to have different but local spots to go to. When we walked in I really enjoyed the art that they had on the wall. The flowers were beautiful. Large scale paintings and art like that really appealed to my sense of design, is that it, or something. I thought that the art really set the mood for the entire place. There's not a ton of seating on the inside but there is enough for groups to sit down and to converge. I like coffee shops that have larger tables so that maybe you can meet someone while hanging out for the morning. While the tables weren't huge you could put them together if you came with a group. We ordered an iced coffee, the Turkish elixir, and a mocha. The lady behind the counter was super sweet and nice and got our orders ready right away. The only thing that I took one star off of was that she handed me a drink and said this is the mocha and when I gave it to the person once we drove home who wanted a mocha it was not a mocha. Not a huge deal the drink was fine, no idea what it was, but still slightly disappointing. Someone at the house still drank it, but I did feel bad for the person who wanted the mocha and didn't get it. The Turkish elixir my mom got and she said it was amazing. She's going to try to make it at home once she heads back to Erie. She was very impressed by it. The iced coffee my sister liked and said it tasted like it should. I look forward to coming back again with my work stuff and maybe spending a little bit of time doing some work while sitting there admiring the artwork. And then when I go again we can see about that extra star to for a new updated review. What we got was good and I think that this is a good place to go if you're just looking to get a cup. read more
