I DO NOT recommend this shop to anyone looking for high-quality, custom drawn work. The employees at Inkwell are arrogant assholes who wouldn't know true art if it smacked them in the face. For a little backstory let me explain how I came to this conclusion. On my birthday this year I was looking to get a very sentimental tattoo done on my shoulder of three birds. I had lost a brother, cousin, and close friend to suicide in the past two years and was wanting a way to symbolize their passing. I went in to Inkwell with an image of three birds that I loved, hoping they would tweak what they needed to and draw me a like representation. When I walked in I was told there would be a six hour wait, to come back later when they would be done working on the image and ready to tattoo me. When I came back into the shop, six hours later, the employees had not even worked on the sketch-let alone a finished piece. I was asked to come to the counter where the skinhead employee manning the front desk proceeded to pull up Google images of three birds, telling me to choose what I wanted. I repeated that I wanted the image I had already brought in. This is when the afore mentioned skinhead began mocking my image straight to my face, calling it "a tornado of birds", and laughing at the image. As if that wasn't enough, he decided his buddy (who was taking one-hits behind the counter) needed to get a good laugh at it too. Remember, this is a sentimental image AND my birthday. No matter, the pothead employee proceeds to agree that it is "a tornado of birds" and gets a good chuckle out of something I was fond of. Why I didn't leave at this point is still beyond me. I desired so badly to get this tattoo done that I failed to stop and turn around. Guess it was similar to seeing a train wreck; sometimes you just can't look away. I finally just caved and picked a GOOGLE IMAGE from the crappy little computer behind the desk. I told them what to tweak and went outside to smoke what was probably half a pack of cigarettes. I was so mad and insulted at this point that I was fuming. Finally after about a half an hour they have the image ready to go. I come in and lay down letting them put this ill represented image on my shoulder. Stupid, I know. As the employee (I will not even call him a tattoo artist) gets to work he and another employee begin shooting the shit together. I start listening and they are making fun of all the people in the waiting room. Referring to one guy as a "busted up jiggalo". Lucky for me the "jiggalo" is placed in the same room to get work done by the two idiots that just made fun of him. Remember: Train Wreck. As if that wasn't bad enough, it goes even more downhill. Recall me saying that the tattoo represented the three people close to my heart that committed suicide? The employee working on my tattoo begins talking disrespectfully about suicide. Saying things like, "that guy should just hang his fucking self and put himself out of misery". He went on to talk more gruesomely about suicide, and honestly I can't even quote the rest as I literally had to block it out to remain sane at that point. Why I didn't stab the fuck-head with his tattoo gun is still beyond me. To top it off I was overcharged, two hundred bucks for an outline of three birds?! Overall, I would not recommend this place to a living soul. But it's your buck, so if you would like some clip art tattooed on you while being disrespected and made fun of be my guest. Wow! I agree with you Katie...This place rocks in more ways than one. I recently went to Ink Well To recieve my very first tattoo, and I knew exactly what I wanted... The circle of fifths. For all of the music majors out there, you guys know what I am talking about. For anyone who doesnt know, It is basically a diagram that determines how many sharps and flats are played depending on what key you are in. Well I wanted it on my arm but because it is a circle with letters expanding all the way around, they needed to do it much larger in order to prevent the lines from running together. And guess what my friends...I have a small F*ing arm! So I sat and contemplated of what to do, and anytime i had a question they responded with sincire concern and compassion. They really wanted to help. I dig that. Needless to say i decided to get it on my hip/ass. It looks phenomonal! I could not have asked for a better experience nor do i think i would have recieved a better one anywhere else. Clark! My hero! You really have no idea how much you have changed my life. This is my inspiration for MY music. You have forever inprinted my greatest passion on my body that with always be with me. I am sure it was difficult to draw a perfect cirlce but you rocked it! This was, until today, my favorite tattoo shop in the area. I have tattoos from Inkwell. I have friends that have, and still do work for Inkwell. Today you pretentious cunts, talked down to, demeaned, then laughed at, my fiance and daughter when they came in to get my daughters ear pierced. Today is that little girls birthday, and that little girl has been waiting for MONTHS to get her ear pierced and you guys were absolute ASSHOLES to her and my fiance. And now i look like a fucking idiot for sending her there. I know you guys like to have fun and laugh at people who get generic tattoos and peircings, and its your place so you can do that, but that doesnt make it fucking right. I went to Inkwell last week and Brandon did my tattoo. I had a great experience. The first night me and my husband went in to get a tattoo they were slammed, but super nice. We came back a couple nights later and they were able to do us both. Brandon took the time to get to know me, listen to what I wanted and redesigned a picture that I had brought in to fit my personality. It took about 3 hours from start to finish, but Brandon made it as tolerable as a tattoo can get. The guys there are very fun and professional. I used to get inked here.. They make squiggly lines instead of straight ones, They're rude if you're not some blonde haired 110 pound female showing all of herself. You're better off to go to Almighty Studios in belleville.. You almost have to make an appointment because Lynn is soooo good. His prices are really good too. After discovering Almighty I never went back to Inkwell. The difference in attitude and quality of work at Almighty have kept me going back. Inkwell does have a better jewelry selection however. I went for my first tattoo at Ink Well and what a great first impression. I was the first client of the day and was greeted and told everything that was going to happen. Then I meet Clark. He is outstanding and so patient with me the first timer. I never had any pain or discomfort. He made small talk through out the tattoo and made sure I was doing ok. The inkwell staff is professional, knowledgeable and personable. They'll tell you exactly "like it is" without any fluff or BS just to make a sale. My daughter and I got tattoos on our feet back in May and mine faded just a bit. When I went back to have it touched up the artist who had originally done the work (Brandon) touched it up without hesitation and did a great job.
