I want to like you more, Inman Perk, I really do. But alas, I can't. I've been to Inman Perk for both coffee and lunch since it's just down the street from my office, and while the coffee was good, the lunch was just ok. When we went for lunch I got a turkey panini with swiss cheese and artichoke spread, my coworkers ordered lobster bisque (until they ran out after two orders), a gumbo (which had cold spots in it), a melted BLT, grilled cheese and a salad (which was mostly spinach without a lot of toppings). My sandwich, even though it was a panini wasn't particularly warm either, just kinda room temperature. And don't go to Inman Perk if you're in a rush - whether its coffee, a sandwich, whatever - it'll be a while. Ok, last thing. This place is always full of people. Which is great for them but not for those of us with more than two people in a party together. Trying to find a place for five people to sit when the larger, communal tables are occupied by lots of single people with laptops and lattes makes it really hard to sit together for a meal. I know there's not much to be done after they've claimed a spot, but it's annoying for the rest of us. read more

Homegirl up front was down right rude to every question my friends and I asked. Mind you, we are pleasant happy people asking simple questions about ya chai lattes and tastes tea! The old adage that "looks can be deceiving" is never truer than in the case of Inman Perk. This place always seems to be packed with patrons, but after my first visit I'm now convinced that the only thing retaining the masses is the free Wi-Fi and prime location on the Highland strip. Coffee/Food: The coffee at Inman Perk is mediocre, but the desserts and baked goods are nothing short of intolerable. The vast majority of items in the food case looked as if they had been siting around since the Carter Administration. I finally ended up with a peanut butter cookie that tasted so foul it was unpalatable; the cookie was suffering from a severe case of freezer burn and left an after taste that was vaguely reminiscent of plastic. After inquiring, we were informed that they actually contract out most of the desserts; needless to say, my guess is that Inman Perk is said contractor's only client. Service: The staff were friendly and efficient with the ordering process, but they appeared to be less concerned with virtually everything else; the dining area of this place was a proverbial war zone. Atmosphere: Absolutely disastrous. A minority of patrons had setup camp over virtually every occupiable space; moreover, the limited space that was open for use was filthy. To add insult to injury, there aren't enough conveniently located electrical outlets to accommodate the aforementioned free Wi-Fi squatters, so there are power cords strewn across every available surface. Cost: Comparable to most other coffee shops. Accordingly, you'd be well advised to forego the previously described shortcomings and venture elsewhere. Other: They do serve Jake's Ice Cream. Accordingly, it's a viable late night dessert option once the Irwin Market has closed. Inman Perk's hours of operation are Monday-Friday, 6AM-11PM, and Saturday-Sunday, 7AM-11PM. read more

My biz partner positioned this as a "really cool coffee spot", so on a Sunday when we had crap load of work to do, we decided to meet up there to finish a few projects. The place has a great energy, and was pretty packed for a Sunday afternoon. In fact, it was completely packed. While it was a gorgeous day, it was a tad bit warm inside the coffee shop which was pretty annoying. I cant say much about the food or coffee considering I brought my own food. I am so glad I found this place! Parking was hard to find because there are so many shops on this avenue and not to mention the Beltline is right behind this coffee shop as well. I had to park behind the entire complex and walk around the building. Not a bad walk considering I didn't have to pay for parking. I ordered a french vanilla latte and was so impressed! The foam was perfectly decadent! It also had a pretty design pour and I am always excited about that. I will always come here if I'm around Old Fourth Ward/ Inman Park area. I like this place a lot, don't get me wrong. What I'm writing here is sort of a niche review for people looking for coffee during morning rush-hour. For a while I was stopping at this place on the way to work because it's in my neighborhood, but have started going back to Dunkin. The coffee tastes fantastic, and there are plenty of windows to keep your visit pleasantly sun-filled. As other reviewers point out, the seating goes fast though. The baristas are very friendly, and that's honestly the origin of my (admittedly minor) gripe. You just can't get a coffee fast in here. Usually when I'm trying to get my morning coffee, I have to wait through the conversations of everyone in front of me. It can take more than 5 minutes to get through a line of 3 or 4 people. Of course you're right to think I'm a malcontent. Five minutes is an eternity when you're about to be five minutes late to work. Like I said: Niche review. At my Dunkin, the coffee isn't as tasty but they can mow down a line of 10 people in a minute or two, while having my order waiting at the register when I get there. Even with parallel parking, paying a downtown meter and the occasional breakfast sandwich, it's still usually faster than Inman Perk. I think everything was fine about this place. I got a vanilla coconut milk latte and it was pretty good. The only reason why they fall short of 5 stars is because the place didnt look very clean. The baristas were friendly but it maybe looked like they could use one more person to clean up the milk/sugar station. By far the weirdest and rudest experience. The person working (redhead, facial piercing) finally appeared after a 4 minute wait. She helped the guy in front of me quickly. When I approached, I told her I'd like a small chai. She tells me it'll be a while. How long? 10 minutes. Okkkk. I ask if making a coffee would be easier. She awkwardly fidgets, pressing her hands between her thighs and says...she really wouldn't like to make a coffee right now because she was having kitchen issues. Ok, I can understand having issues at work. That wasn't what bothered me. It was her immature response and fidgeting like a two year old who had to use the restroom that was embarrassing to witness. Okay - I'll be the first to admit; I have not had the BEST service here - but that's not my priority when I'm seeking out a coffee house. Locally owned and operated, it has a ton more personality than the half-dozen or so Starbucks scattered around the 1-mile radius of this place. To sit and drink coffee from a big mug that has a saucer, instead of a paper cup is soothing to me in a way. I also appreciate that they display local artists works about the shop and have local writers and photographer's work available for sale as well. The coffee is decent, and after 10 you get a cup for free. I often hop in mid-day for a panini and an IZZE - their lunch options I've found to be quite delicious. It does get crowded, but if I can get work done here - so can you - trust me. FREE wi-fi, with board games and books on hand... you can go with a purpose or just to get away. We stopped in here after walking down to PCM and back to Inman Park on a misty Sunday afternoon. The first thing I noticed were the patrons: If you plan on being a camper here, know that you're not the only one--Laptops and introverts as far as the eye could see, and nary an available wall plug in sight. It was a good thing we were on the move and didn't plan to stick around. I had a venti chai, my significant other had a cappuccino. The chai was great--On the sweeter and more vanilla-y side of the scale if you drink chai regularly. The cappuccino was, in the words of my verbose partner, "good." Service was fast and friendly. I ran in to Inman Perk as a last minute coffee before we headed off to see Cirque du Soleil. The place seems nice. The decor is sort of industrial trendy which is, I guess what you would expect from a coffee shop in that area. I like that the sizes are small, medium, and large; they have three different roasts each day, and they have soy milk. The prices seemed pretty reasonable too. I was in a hurry, so I'll have to return to check out refill prices and Wi-Fi. One cool thing is that they have a book exchange. You can bring a book, take a book, and they have plenty of shelf space left which is great, because I just streamlined my library! It'll be nice to sit outside when the weather warms up. Inman Perk. Dudes. I love your location, your Intelligentsia coffee, your vibe, your decor, and your cute customers. That's why I need you to fix your service. I've been here a few times, and none of those times has the counter service been quite right. Once, it took 3 full minutes for the TWO DUDES standing at the register to notice me standing there, about 2 feet beyond the pair of grody 16-year old girls they were flirting with. Another time, my coffee was flung on the bar at the end of the counter while I waited at the register--I had to ask to be told that it was waiting for me there. Yet another time, I had to overhear one dude explain to another dude how to describe a smoothie in order to sell it. Each time I'm here, there's at least one person behind the register just waiting for something to happen while another guy rings people up. A hint, guys? That second person should be taking and filling orders, not holding down the tile. So, Inman Perk: multitask. Watch your line. Do team training out of customer earshot. Communicate the location of my order to me directly, with words. And remember: most 16-year old girls have herpes. read more

Inman Perk is probably the best of the lets-go-to-a-coffeeshop-and-study-for-a-long-time-places in Atlanta. (Octane and Karvarna being the other two.) It's a great space, with good coffee, alcoholic drinks, reliable Internet -- like I am writing this review from there -- and students in for the long haul. I like the extensive drink menu that includes alcohol and it's not loud enough to be distracting and has a lot of seating. There is one draw back. It's crowded. Like all the time. It's greatness is not a hidden secret amongst the Georgia Tech/Emory grad student crowd. So you may struggle to get a spot some days. Also, the parking in the adjacent lot is capped at 3 hours, which can pose a problem for some. There's not a lot of parking around other than that garage. But, you can access the coffeeshop directly from the garage -- avoiding the rain and it's a great place to get it in if you need to. Plus, with its belt line location and proximity to Barcelona, it's a great place to be for a while or venture out to somewhere else. read more

Inman Perk has good coffee, good tea, and good cider. The eats are the usual, for the most part. If I weren't lactose intolerant, I'd probably like the ice cream. The employees are really nice, very helpful and friendly. As for the space, there are never enough seats or outlets. I once came for a meeting and had to stand around and wait until someone got up, then had my meeting sitting next to the person with whom I was meeting, across the table from some student. It looks like most people there are students or youngish work-from-home types who camp out for hours on end. I've come a couple of other times. Sometimes the folks there rudely drape their junk all over adjoining seats. I would give this place another star if they had more space. read more

First rate coffee baristas not found here. I was told by several friends not to go here and it wasn't because of the coffee. Rude loud staff and they don't really pay attention to what u order so be patient. The 2 gentlemen that are working 8am Mondays are quite RUDE. You can't help but hear their snotty comments about the clientele. I love this space to study though. Seating is spread out, wifi, clean bathrooms, great mocha frappe almond milk instead of dairy is appreciated. Chocolate croissant was wonderful. :-/ Their coffee is not bad.... not great either. I would say it isn't as good as San Fransisco Coffee Company, but on par with about anywhere else in town. :-\ Their food is pretty decent.... I do enjoy their very cheap ham and swiss panini with the artichoke spread. :-) What is awesome, aside from their ginger cookies (delivered from a local bakery) is the comfortable working environment with endless outlets for your computer and enough background noise to help you focus if needed. What more can you ask for in a coffee shop? Good strong coffee, plenty of seating but it does get packed quickly, consistently friendly baristas, splenda packs with vitamin B, and complimentary sugar free simple syrup! And they have Jake's ice cream by the scoop. and a pretty good cookie selection. Wow, I wasn't expecting many hip coffee shops around the Atlanta area. I had heard of this spot from a friend who lives in the area and decided to stop by. This area with the apartments and shops, restaurants, and coffee shops is quite nice. I would definitely want to live here with it being so close to the Belt Line. There are some long tables in the middle of the shop and you'll find quite a few folks getting work done or studying here on the weekends. The space felt cozy and they have an interesting menu with coffee, ice cream, and even popsicles in a little freezer that you pass as you stand in line. I have been spending some quality time at this coffee spot for the last couple of weeks and I can say that I have fairly enjoyed it. It is the perfect place to grab a cup of coffee/tea and get some work done, or just stock people on facebook... The ambiance is great, not too loud so you can hear your own thoughts, but with an enjoyable back ground music. I have tried their chai latte (quite a treat!) and their teas (love their jasmine one) and a vegan cookie they had an the counter. The staff is friendly and efficient and the internet connection has been great. I'm getting used to the place. I just moved right next door, and one of my requirements for finding the perfect location to live, is it must have a place nearby that I can go to and get away, a place that's inviting, relaxing and great customer service. I must say I love there Paninis ,they also serve the "Dirty" brand potato chips (which I love). The service is cool, some baristas are better then others regarding customer service. I love the outside seating in the front, since I'm a people watcher it makes for a good location for me. But if I just want to get away from it all they have a nice, quite nook on the side, inside. It's a great spot to not being distracted of others walking in and out. It also posses large windows, for excellent natural light. LOVING THAT! The coffee is superb, one of the few places I can say, that I'm always satisfied or shall I say a place that I can guarantee how it's going to taste. Inman Perk isn't a bad coffee shop... it's just not that good. Why do I come here? I think it's the convenience. Marlee's was closed on Sunday, Caroll St. Cafe is more like a full blown restaurant even though they serve coffee, and I didn't feel like bringing my dog, so I'd feel guilty about going to Park Grounds without bringing him. I'll say it again... it's not bad. What really surprises me is the fact that Inman Park has all of these great schmancy restaurants on the main drag, and this is still the only little coffee shop in the area. That needs to change. Each time I come I feel underwhelmed. The staff seems a bit immature and not really customer service oriented. And the foods aren't too bad, just definitely not as good as they should be and have a haphazard, slung-together quality to them: -A shake I got one time was basically liquified (it still tasted good so I didn't complain)(a side-note, I don't have faith in the staff here to respectfully deal with complaints about their products), -the espresso drinks always have this barbecue-like taste until after the first 10 minutes or so of settling, -and a chicken salad wrap (only because they were out of croissants) was kinda gross actually. Too much mayo and really mushy like it was made three days ago. [I asked the staff what kind of "wrap" it was wrapped in. "A flour tortilla?" "No, not flour. It's, lemme check... Sun-dried tomato." ...........] In the future I won't be coming here when I can get something much better for about 5 more minutes of driving. But it's not THAT bad. There are a lot of people here studying and enjoying the vibe every time I visit, so its obviously popular. I'm just still surprised that this is Inman Park's main coffee place. read more

There is a ton of seating, and they're very friendly to people who are here to work/study/etc. They also have some beers on tap and are expanding the beers they offer. I just do not drink coffee. Which is why it's so odd I've been to so many coffee places since I've been here. What I liked about Inman Perk is they carry 2 of my favorite fizzy drinks: Izzy and Boylan. Today, I enjoyed the Izze Sparkling Peach, delish. I had it along with a dry apple walnut muffin that I don't have to order again, but I did have my eye on their brownies the size of steaks! I enjoyed eating out front, and thought it was cute that they have canine hitching posts for people to park their dogs at, but odd that those posts are behind the tables and chairs, not out front. So if you don't like dogs, be aware that people might want to place them in your vicinity. There was also ample parking, which combined with the spaciousness would make Inman Perk a great place to meet up. read more

I've been to Inman Perk many, many times since it originally opened on Elizabeth St. The new space isn't quite as cozy as the old one, but it seats waaay more people, so it's a give & take. What I love about this place is that it embodies the reason that I go here and not to a typical chain coffee shop. This Christmas my boyfriend asked for a coffee maker, as he had just discovered the joys of coffee. So, I knew that he had enjoyed the different varieties he had tried at Inman Perk. So, I called up and spoke with the manager and guess what he did? He created a variety pack--one sample size packet of every blend that they offer. He even offered to order some that they hadn't served in a while. When I went to pick up the gift, he even threw in a few free Chai Tea packages, because he knew that was my favorite. Love Inman Park Coffee - to me, it's everything a coffeehouse should be: good coffee, friendly staff, comfortable tables, wifi, and a vibe that you can stay as long as you like, do some work, relax with a good book, chill with your dog outside on the patio, or just watch people doing all of the above. I had the Black Cat roast, which was dark and delicious. The choc chip scone was not that great - it was pretty dry - but tasted good. The yogurt parfait was tasty. Oh, Inman Perk, I don't think I would have survived studying for the bar without you. Inman Perk has great coffee (specifically, cafe au lait with mild roast coffee and simple syrup - my favorite) and it is an awesome space if you need to get work done. Free wifi (although not always the fastest) and I don't think there is a single seat in the house that doesn't have immediate, easy access to an outlet (this may be why the wifi is not always the fastest). It's an awesome location and I like the vibe in there - lots of fellow mac-wielding yuppies. The food is decent. They have Jake's Ice Cream, and a small selection of sandwiches and breakfast items. I hate to say that I'm unimpressed with my neighborhood coffee shop. We called ahead to find out whether there was covered outdoor seating (it was a little rainy, but we wanted to sit outside with our dog). The person who answered the phone was unsure, and after asking for guidance from other staff (??), told me "kind of". FYI, yes, they do have a covered patio. We could have brought the pup after all. We used a Groupon that gave us 2 desserts and 2 cocktails for $18. I figure it saved us about $1. A bored and apparently busy staff person told us Sunday night was a bad night for desserts because none were fresh and pickings were slim. Hubby got a dry, house-made cupcake, and I got a delicious apple Danish made by Sweet Auburn Bakery. Cocktails were ok. I'll probably be back because I can order wine there at 10pm on a Sunday and walk home, but I can't say I highly recommend it. read more

You know, I always wonder why Inman Perk just can't seem to hit the coveted orange star zone. I want it to tip over to the glorious side so badly, so I'll do my share in helping that cause. I've always liked the atmosphere of this place. It's nothing quite extraordinary, but it has the right amount of space between seats that it's private, yet cozily public. And with coffee shops or study spots, I'm a stickler about outlets. Luckily, Inman Perk has many outlets so nobody has to trip over wires that run across the entire shop. I always get their cafe au lait, so I can only speak for that in terms of their coffee. It's quite delicious. In terms of food, I've gotten different things on my visits and they've always been a good experience, except my last one where I tried their raspberry scone. Tasted a little too stale for me. Otherwise, I appreciate that they ensure every panini or wrap is pressed to perfection. It's all about the grill marks. Plus, I think they do a good job of not ripping people off with their prices and their portions. So in all, I like this place. I really do. Good for an afternoon of studying, grabbing coffee, or getting a delectable lunch. read more

I told them my coffee sucked...they rudely grabbed the coffee cups and took them back into the back kitchen and copped attitudes like little 12 year old girls. What a bunch of pussies!!! Not even the common courtesy to say, "I'm sorry. Maybe you would let us try to make another one to see if you find it to your liking." It won't happen here. Too much pride in the fact that they know nothing about their trade and unwilling and idiotic to be trained by the local Intelli dude to actually run a decent coffee house. I've lived in Atlanta and visited just about every so called Specialty Coffee Shop. Without reservation, Inman Perk ranks last. I think these guys actually go out of their way to create a shit experience. I have been to this place 3 times. All 3 times were exactly the same...so 3 strikes and YOU ARE OUT!! The only redeeming quality of this store is the high-quality of the beans they sell to take home and make a good cup of coffee. The "baristas" here are not trained at all. Ask for a cappuccino....you get a poor attempt at an espresso with steamed milk that would have been better prepared by a monkey. There's no attention to detail. Most importantly, the coffee simply tastes like a nice combination of diarrhea and squirrel piss. Intelli coffee is pretty hard to F-up....but these self-centered, not even close to hipster assholes have it in themselves to even create a TERRIBLE cup of coffee from some of the most celebrated beans in this country. It's kind of like the college kid that can't even make popcorn or toast without burning it to a crisp. The sickness is in the fact that they have the audacity to charge the price for a decent cup of coffee. I'll never return to this excuse for a coffee shop ever again. I'll go back to the Mercedes-Benz dealership in Buckhead if I want this brand of coffee. Believe it or not, the car dealer coffee lounge there actually knows how to brew this coffee....with professional barista flair and customer service. The folks that obviously do not know good coffee and are willing to drink this swill are naturally just there for the peaceful calmness and free WiFi. I have yet to ever be in a place that just screams, "Please get the fuck out!! We don't want you to come back because we are so cool...we would rather your coffee suck...so we can put our owners out of business and go back home to complain about how everyone else isn't as cool as us." Screw these assholes and do them a favor - take your business and studying someplace else.
