Same no-frills brunch as before. The Regular Breakfast, Waffle with Eggs, and New Mexican breakfast special were all a nice start to the day. Halfway through our meal, we saw water was seeping through the wall and had covered a large part of the floor. There had been sudden large downpours of rain that morning...very unfortunate

I've been coming to this spot in Kensington with my mom for many years, and we keep coming back for their consistently great breakfast options great service and plenty of indoor seating. Today's specials were a real treat, featuring both chicken soup and posole which wasn't exactly traditional but good. My mom enjoyed their legendary seafood omelette, packed with salmon and shrimp--it was absolutely delicious! Alongside that, I ordered the classic two-egg and bacon breakfast. The bacon is always a highlight here, thick-cut and perfectly cooked. Whether you're stopping by for their specials or sticking to the classics, this place never disappoints. Highly recommend for breakfast lovers!

Cute brunch spot in Kensington! I've driven by many times when I visit my dad and his partner or my aunt, but hadn't dined in until today. My mom, aunt, and I came here around 1 pm and were seated right away. I had the corn cilantro omelette with biscuits. My mom and aunt each got an egg dish (omelette or scramble - can't recall who got what) and a cappuccino. The cappuccino had the most foam I've seen and I would try it earlier in the day. The biscuits are AMAZING! I love the strawberry jam at the table. Honestly I can't imagine coming here and not getting the biscuits. The corn cilantro pancake was unique and not overly sweet. The black beans had a smoky sweet sauce that was different from what I was accustomed to but still complemented the dish. Service was friendly and we didn't have to wait too long for our food. Place is small, limited to 40 people max. It's a bit out of the way and I'm sure gets crowded on the weekends. I would come back if in the area and try the cappuccino!

Our first time here and not our last! I ordered the corn beef hash with buttermilk biscuits and it was delicious. There's a large selection of menu items and specials. Our service was friendly as well as other team members of the restaurant. Charming environment and after breakfast we explored some of the nearby markets and enjoyed the Bay view from the neighborhood. Excellent brunch!!

How did I not know about this place!! This has got to be one of the best places for breakfast I've been to in a long time!! First... their biscuits are mile high!! One of the best biscuits I've had in a long long time!! I had the scramble and my daughter had the corn cilantro pancake!! Both were fabulous!! Service was great!! It's a small place and I imagine it gets super busy!! We got lucky and didn't have to wait. But when we left folks were waiting for a table!!

    Indian "Burrito"

Until recently, I'm not sure I've been back to Inn Kensington since my review 14 years ago. Time does fly, and Gayle and I were pleased that this cozy and welcoming restaurant is still around after all this (including COVID). We ended up here for Lunch after our Tilden adventure (Steam Train and Little Farm). We wanted something close, child friendly, and didn't require a significant Yelp search. So between Inn Kensington and Fat Apples, this short distance is where we headed. As it was mid-week and a little past the Lunch hour, parking was easy and the restaurant had plenty of room. Restaurant staff were attentive/friendly and masked. It looks like Inn Kensington doesn't currently serve dinner, but the all day breakfast and lunch selections were all very tempting. Our granddaughter chose waffles of which we let her put powdered sugar on it as there's not a lot of difference (to a young kid) between that and maple syrup. She loved it so much that she kept asking to come back during the following days that we were taking care of her. Gayle and I each ordered and thoroughly enjoyed our "Indian Burrito". In other words: east Indian curried chicken baked in filo dough, topped with spicy mango-mustard seed chutney and served with a salad of seasonal lettuce and baby greens. Now doesn't that sound like a great alternative? It was. I hope it doesn't take as long (as it did before) to come back. Downtown isn't really all that far away from various Berkeley/Albany neighborhoods and we'll be sure to remember this little gem of a restaurant the next times we're in town.

    Coffee

So I haven't actually eaten here (full transparency) but as I was running errands in the area I noticed how cute this place was and made a note I need to come back with my kids. I happened to park directly outside and was about to leave but was waiting for a call. As I'm sitting in my car the owner/a waiter comes out and starts a quick convo and asks if I'd like a cup of coffee. 60 seconds later, coffee in and now im writing this review. It was an amazingly sweet gesture and I so appreciate it. I'll be backto the food soon!

Most recently I finally was able to give them a try. So glad we did! We came around lunch time and sat at a booth. There were other worker bees grabbing a quick lunch. The service was quick, efficient and friendly, and we ordered the French onion soup to start, and split the fried chicken sandwich and Philly cheesesteak sandwich. The sandwiches come with a side, so one plate we did fries with a house-made aioli and the other plate, their quinoa kale salad. Delicious. Such hearty portions! The bread is so fresh, the meat juicy and ample, and flavors just right. We also ordered beer on tap, shoutout to Oakland United, and tried their house-made hot sauce that they also sell by the bottle. Would love to come back to try brunch here too. I also saw a patron ordering the quinoa kale salad with fried chicken, and yes, that's the vibe! Pricing is fair for the quality and quantity, and street parking available (although the restaurant is located at the bottom of Solano where it tends to be a bit more busy). Women-owned biz, and they also were on Check Please! Bay Area.

If you've ever had Arsicault, then you'll understand what I mean when I say this place is a true contender. And the best part? You don't have to travel far, pay that toll bridge, or deal with expensive gas. Save all that and give this place a try! Do note: Canelé -- available Friday to Sunday Pastel de nata (Portuguese tarts) -- available Saturday & Sunday What I've tried: Croissant -- Yum, yum, yum! From end to end, it has that perfectly crunchy exterior, and not a hollow bite in sight. Every bite is flaky, buttery, and satisfying. Chocolate Croissant -- A must if you love chocolate. Rich, flaky, and indulgent. Almond Croissant -- Another delicious contender. Nutty, sweet, and absolutely worth it. Apricot Croissant -- Not bad at all. The apricot adds a nice touch without overpowering the pastry. Bostock -- This one was a miss for me. It looked beautiful, but it was missing that little finesse that makes you want another bite. Gâteau au Fromage (Basque Cheesecake) -- A bit pricey, but so worth the splurge because they really know how to nail it. One bite and you won't be able to stop until it's gone. Pastel de Nata -- Crispy edges with a delicate, creamy, and delicious filling. That crunch is everything. Canelé -- These babies sell fast, so make sure to get there when they open. I love the crunchy exterior paired with that soft, custardy inside. Yum, yum, yum! Chocolate Fondant -- Not bad, but not my favorite. I've definitely had better elsewhere. Chocolate Hazelnut Cake -- The flavor was nice, but I found this one just a tad dry. Bottom line: While not everything was a home run, their croissants, canelés, Basque cheesecake, and pastel de nata are absolutely worth coming back for. A hidden gem that delivers big on flavor without the long drive. Definitely worth the visit!

The workers and the owner were all very kind and welcoming. I got there a little after they opened in the morning. As for the food, I ordered the kimchi fried rice along with the chicken and croffle. The fried chicken tasted a bit interesting. I'm not sure if the frying temperature was off or if it had something to do with the condition of the oil, but the texture of the breading wasn't quite right. I used to work at a fried chicken shop in Korea, so it was a texture I recognized--the coating was fully cooked and wasn't necessarily soggy, but there was no real crunch. Instead of being crispy, the breading was soft and kind of gave way when you bit into it. Unfortunately, I couldn't continue eating it. I'd give the chicken a 2/5. As for the kimchi fried rice, I liked the addition of cilantro and beets, which gave it a refreshing touch. My only issue was that the kimchi itself was way too sour for kimchi fried rice. I don't mind fermented or sour kimchi, but in this case, the sourness overpowered the rest of the dish. Overall, the cafe itself is cute and the people working there were genuinely very kind. I just wish the food had been a little better, especially the fried chicken. Will be back next time to try out the coffee!! It is a cafe after all.
