Very nice off-season getaway! We stayed in Timberwinds, it was very clean and bright. The bed was very comfortable. The view was beautiful! My only complaint is a very low flush! The Customer Service line was very helpful when we couldn't get in at first (jammed door that felt locked). read more

Cool place! Really cute. Amazing first impression. Really nice service. Our room faced the street and was very hot when the sun was shining in it. The breakfast was nice, lots of fruit, juices, cereals. Too many sweet options for me, I wish there were more savory food. Convenient and cozy! I recommend it! read more

On arriving in Stonington, we parked on the street and checked into the this inn, our temporary home for three nights. Jay, co-owner with wife Dana, warmly greeted us, offered dining suggestions and assisted in carrying our luggage to the room. The Inn offers 13 rooms spread over 4 Victorian buildings (formerly a grocery, shoe store, post office and barber shop) dating back to the 1880's that were cobbled together by prior owners. All rooms are named after windjammers that have sailed into the harbor and most offer a spectacular view of a harbor active with lobster men departing in the morning and returning later in the day to offload their catch at a nearby landing. Our room, The Angelique, included a king bed, mini refrigerator, mini sized TV and a private deck overlooking the scenic harbor. There is an expansive deck with couches, tables and chairs that is close to perfectly situated to enjoy the beautiful view. A breakfast is included that features fresh fruit, juice, coffee, hard boiled eggs and, most importantly, a wide variety of in-house baked goods that are delicious. read more

Quite possibly one of the best located inns I've ever visited. Directly on the harbor waterfront overlooking the town pier and the working waterfront, the Inn on the Harbor has an awesome little espresso bar in the lobby. Four tables with waterviews. Homebaked cookies, cake and of course, espresso. A double latte to go was frothy, rich and delicious. Several, five to be exact, oatmeal raisin cookies were soft, chewy and fresh. Can't wait to stay here during the winter with one of their package deals. I was visiting Stonington for lunch by boat so it was not to be this trip. read more

I am entirely disgusted and appalled at the treatment I received here regarding my privacy. The owner purposefully went into my room when I was out and snooped around, and then accused me of having a dog staying in the room because she saw a a bowl of water on the floor, which wasn't the case. I explained that our family dog ( a small 15 lb hypo-allergenic registered service and therapy dog ) was actually staying down the road with my mother and that I gave her the water when she came to greet me at the room in the morning when she was thirsty from her walk. The owner basically continued to accuse me of LYING forcing me to defend and explain myself like I'm a child and then kicked me out and even refused to refund me my money for the second night, but then thankfully acquiesced and refunded my second nights stay. I left in a huff as I felt totally violated, patronized and persecuted like some kind of criminal! My god why not post no dog owners allowed period? If her excuse are peoples allergies well guess what , I'm allergic to dogs! And guests who are pet owners belongings are contaminated, and there was a giant dog lying around on the deck outside... there are no signs saying no dogs allowed on the property, period. This woman succeeded in ruining my visit when I was in town for my grandmothers 89th birthday whose husband was rushed to the hospital that very morning in an ambulance. I am absolutely flabbergasted that such a mountain was made from a mole hill and would NEVER recommend anyone to stay at such an uptight place in a beautiful laid back town such as Stonington. These people need to get a life and start having more compassion for other people's lives. In addition, she indicated that because I didn't have my dogs service papers on me at all times then I must be lying , I explained I didn't need them bc the dog wasn't staying there with me! Hello?? She pressed the issue , forcing me to explain my personal situation which is that they are packed away in moving boxes and I honestly don't know where there are at this time- which is why I had my mom take the dog - but the move , btw, was because I had to evacuate my home due to a fire!!other people had to help me save my belongings and put them in storage until I found a new home. I lost my home and was so looking forwards to some peaceful sleep by myself in this EXPENSIVE room, yet this woman ruined the experience with her petty nitpicking and ridiculous accusations when there are much larger things to be worried about. I work in the hospitality industry and would never treat my guest this way. I wasn't bothering anyone. This inn keeper was degrading, demeaning and absolutely offensive and our friends and family will not be staying at this property ever again. read more

I love this quaint little "Inn on the Harbor" literally jutting out over the water. I really can't say which season I like the best, I have stayed during all four seasons because one thing never changes and it's the ocean. I've enjoyed the Winter with a loaded Kindle beside the fireplace which are available in many of the rooms (the fireplace, that is). I think I enjoy the Fall the most, the temperature is still mild enough to sit out on the deck in the late afternoon and enjoy a cocktail while watching the tide coming in or out. This is what we did just last week, this time I chose the Stephen Tabor room which is actually on it's own with a first floor entrance from either the sidewalk or from the big deck to your own personal deck, this was perfect for us, neither my husband nor I do stairs well any more and like most older folks we do suffer from sleep problems and are often times up in the middle of the night, this way we don't disturb anyone...who wants to hear chatty people at 3AM? I started staying here in the early 1980's when it was the Captain's Quarters and owned by a gentleman. Then I think it was the early 2000's it was purchased by a lady from NYC and she completely renovated it and it remained very nice, until as all things do, time does take it's toll. Happy ending though....The new owners Dana and Jay are young and full of energy, obviously love what they are doing, once again completely renovated both inside and out, decks redone, new deck railings, new interiors, bathrooms renewed, beautiful linens, towels, upholstery. It's all better than ever before. Dana is the one who greets you and makes you feel very welcome to her home. And... the there is Liddy who bakes the most scrumptious goodies to accompany your coffee in the morning, she is an absolute a menace to every humans waistline. I can't wait to go back! read more

We had a wonderful stay during a quiet time tin February and were the only ones there. -- such a treat. The bedroom window looked out on the harbor and we went to sleep with stars dancing in the sky. The breakfast was homemade and substantial -- one of the best complimentary breakfast we've ever had -- quiche, French toast, orange juice, coffee. Not like chain hotels' tasteless bagels and muffins. This is a good time to see the Maine coast in off-season. read more

This island retreat is a hidden gem. Smack dab in the middle of one of the oldest working fishing villages, this Inn may not be showy but who needs that when you overlook lobster boats, islands and such a picturesque harbor. This is our second stay in the Heritage Room. Again, nothing fancy, but clean, cozy and a huge picture window that makes you feel like you are out on open water. The room has a king bed, two comfy stuffed chairs and a fireplace. Very relaxing. The new Innkeepers are welcoming and have made and are making many improvements. They serve a delicious breakfast; quiche, muffins, French toast etc. and a nice cup of coffee. We would certainly recommend this Inn and we are sure to return ourselves. The Opera House is also worth attending. Try to time your visit with a play or musical and you won't be disappointed. My family and I stayed here 2 nights back in October. Its a very cute Inn. Our room was The Lewis R. French (facing the street). It was a decent size room with 2 twin beds and a pull out, perfect for the 4 of us. Bathroom was a good size. Very clean. Breakfast was great. They offered scones, muffins, cereal, fresh fruit, quiche, yogurt, egg salad on an english muffin with (1) tomatoes and arugula (2) ham and cheese (sounds weird but they were very delicious and original), and oatmeal. Juice, coffee, tea. The owners were very nice people. During our trip we stayed local and stopped for coffee at the 44 North Coffee (excellent coffee), had lunch at the Harbor Cafe, and ate dinner at the Fisherman's Friend. We recommend all these places. We took a couple of hikes which were local (The Edgar Tennis Preserve & Barred Island Preserve) which were very pretty. We had a lot of fun and can't wait to visit again! read more

My husband and I spent the past weekend at the inn. The weather was blustery but hey, it's Maine and it's winter! We were warm and cozy. The area is really beautiful and the location of the inn couldn't be better. You are perched on the harbor and the decks are built on pilings, over the water's edge. The owners were incredibly welcoming and accommodating. The breakfast offerings included freshly baked muffins, scones, hard boiled eggs, and quiche as well as breads, cereal, fruit, juice, coffee and various teas. On Fridays and Saturdays in the dead of winter you can still have a delicious meal at Water's Edge Wines or Aragosta. Both are only a few steps away from the inn. Reservations are recommended. We are looking forward to a return trip in another season for additional exploring and some hiking. read more

Loved this fun, funky inn and town. Inn was well run, with helpful innkeeper, yummy breakfast, and a great setting. Super comfy beds, nice private, large room. Town was cool with a small number of shops and cafes, and we are so glad we went there. Would definitely return to the Inn at the Harbor. read more
